Inappropriate ads at top of page (desktop)

I'm seeing inappropriate, spammy ads near the top of my screen, in a rectangular box (desktop view).

Can the DISboards please revisit your advertising policies and/or enforce standards? I don't remember it ever being this bad before. These ads are junk and it's detrimental to the DISboards experience.

Editing to add: I figured out a way to block these ads. In firefox there's a privacy setting that lets you block cookies from websites you haven't visited. I enabled it, and so far the offensive ads are gone.

I am pretty sure the ads are not selected in any way by the admins at the DIS boards. They come through Google Ads and are based on your browsing history and cookies. For instance, I never go to political websites, so I never have seen a political ad here.

Just clear all the cookies from your browser and generic ads will start showing up.

Thanks for the reply! I understand these are generic, spammy ads that auto-populate. I am hoping the DIS admins can restrict particular kinds of generic spam ads that are political and/or borderline inappropriate from showing up at all, via some method of back-end ad or algorithm control.

The ad quality declined after the recent board transition (or maybe they’re just way more visible now at the top of the screen?). Either way, the spam ads are a relatively new phenomenon to me on the DISboards and I’ve been here since 2005.

Nothing in my browsing history would indicate that these ads are relevant. Most websites just serve up a ton of pleasant shopping and Disney ads to me, lol.
