In Training: Marathon Weekend 2015 (Dopey Challenge)! **COMPLETE**

I didn't know you had that one too!! SparkleTwins! :) So which skirts do you have then - Rainforest, Pink MiniTech and Haunted?

I also have the ComicRelief and BlackLinen. I've been thinking about the MouseInTheMix one as well. I also bought just the Sparkle shorts in the Red Mini print. I like them as well, although they do feel more revealing, if you know what I mean.

I'm with you, LOVE the vented slim and wish they made more. The only other one I have seen is plaid or something? I don't love it. I did get in on a group custom on the Facebook group where they had all 4 styles (swing, slim, vented slim and hiker) available, so I will be getting a vented slim there. :) I think you said you like the slim cuts better than the swing, right? All of my skirts except for Rainforest are swings. I need to try a slim cut on again at the Wine & Dine expo. :confused3 They look so good on some other ladies but I'm not sure if it's for me. It certainly wasn't when I tried one on at the Princess Half expo in February...

Yeah, when I was working through my custom for the Goofy run (preview hint - it's a vented slim), I told Kate who was my email contact from SS that I really wished they would make more vented slims as an option.

I do like the slim better than the swings, although the BlackLinen feels a little snug around my hips just because of the fabric I think. It doesn't slide across the compression shorts as well as the "slicker" fabrics. But, I still really like it. I could go broke buying SparkleSkirts.

I got my flu shot last week too. It's also mandatory here at our hospital and, yes, that can cause some people to get upset. But, I always get it regardless and they offer it to family at no cost too, so I consider it a nice benefit.
I do too. :confused3 I've been getting the flu shot each year for quite awhile now (I also got them for free in college because I was on the swim team and the coach made it part of the budget) and haven't had a really bad reaction yet. Maybe I've been lucky.

A couple of years ago they gave everyone that got the shot a sticker to put on our ID cards - not sure why they did this, to keep track I guess? - and someone in my department that I'm somewhat friendly with (and didn't get the shot) was like, "don't you think your immune system is strong enough not to get it?" Um, no, no I don't! What a weird question.

Will is going to be getting his next week...since he's a teacher I'm always extra anxious for him to get it. You never know what's floating around in a high school!
Woohoo!!!
:yay: Because really, when you're not excited for your upcoming Disney race/trip, something's just not right!
That sounds like great progress. It must have felt great to get to run again. I know when I had to take time off early with my injury I got in such a bad mood.
EXACTLY. It definitely affected me physically, but the mental struggle was so much worse. So glad to be back at it! ::yes::
I hear you! Mine is the same.
Not good!! Let's be better about that?! :goodvibes
I've never seen one of those. I'm sure my foot and ankles could use some strengthening as well. My balance and stability aren't great.
They are weird little things. I hadn't used one since I sprained my ankle in college (walking to biology class...KLUTZ!). I think I mostly thought they were just for ankle strength but after using them in the core class last week I'm really thinking about buying one some day.
I need to be faithful about those exercises too, but I'm not. Like you said, it really doesn't take long, so I don't know why I'm so bad about doing them.
Me neither! I haven't been doing them like I should. :(
Rest is an important part of the recovery. You are being really smart about this!!
Thank you!!
All Disney planning is good news though!! It's getting really close now.
It is!! I tried not to think about it at all during September due to the injury stuff, but now that I'm (hopefully) recovered...I can't believe how close it is. The half is 1 month from today!! :)
Those are awesome!!
Thanks! :) I'm enjoying searching back through my old pictures, it's been fun!
Bummer. It's just so hard to keep the kind of focus necessary to consistently lose weight. I've been stuck at the same place for ever and still want to drop 10 pounds. But, I don't want to be super strict on my food which is what it will take for me to drop it. Ugg.
I agree with every word you wrote here. EVERY WORD. It sucks! :(
Way to go. Steady improvement. Perfect.
Thank you. Slow and steady over here...I need to focus less on the SLOW part and more on the STEADY part. ::yes::
What the heck?!?! They need to get that fixed for you. And, new SparkleSkirt money is nothing to mess around with.
I just checked my credit card online and it's THERE! :yay: Maybe I should celebrate by buying a SparkleSkirt?! Kidding...for now. :teeth:
Sounds like a great class. So, good that it's close to the house. I'm glad you felt like it really worked for you.
It was! It would be even better if it started an hour later, but still...I think it'll be good for me.
Congrats on a first post-injury week of running. It sounds like it went really well. That's a bummer about the new crops not working out. Just goes to show what works well for one person its terrible for another. I hope you can get them sold pretty easily. Zero pain in your foot to end the week on is great though and a solid improvement in pace too. That's just awesome!
Thanks! I sort of have been feeling like, if I could get through this first week that would give me more confidence going forward. It definitely has.

You're totally right about the crops. The larges are too big but when I put the mediums on they were almost see-through. So they are not for me. :( I'll sell them soon, I hope.
I also have the ComicRelief and BlackLinen. I've been thinking about the MouseInTheMix one as well. I also bought just the Sparkle shorts in the Red Mini print. I like them as well, although they do feel more revealing, if you know what I mean.
I've thought about ComicRelief and MouseInTheMix, too! Those are great skirts.

LOL about the shorts!! They look so cute though!
Yeah, when I was working through my custom for the Goofy run (preview hint - it's a vented slim), I told Kate who was my email contact from SS that I really wished they would make more vented slims as an option.
YAY VENTED SLIMS! :worship: So like I said I have the Rainforest, and then one of the group customs I'm waiting on will be a vented slim. This one (C'mon Get Happy):
10615578_10152690109114168_4194680070157035393_n.jpg

This one was kind of an impulse join - honestly, I saw there was a vented slim option and I just pounced. It's a sickness...:teeth: But I do love blue, green and purple so I should get a lot of use out of this skirt.

This is the other group custom...I THINK I'm on this one, or at least on the waiting list. I don't know what it's called but the blue is the fabric for the shorts:
10312663_10154427767780389_5543074400855009175_n.jpg

Again, I think I'll get a lot of use out of this one. So many colors!
I do like the slim better than the swings, although the BlackLinen feels a little snug around my hips just because of the fabric I think. It doesn't slide across the compression shorts as well as the "slicker" fabrics. But, I still really like it. I could go broke buying SparkleSkirts.
I'm planning on trying some slims at the W&D expo but I have a feeling I'll be sticking to the swing/vented slims. :)

I feel like I could go broke buying them too! But then I think...right now I have PeacockOrchid, PeacockSapphire, PeacockBordeaux (sense a theme? :rotfl2:), LeiLei, Haunted, RedMiniTech, Rainforest and Black Silk. And I'm on the list for the 2 group customs above. Just seeing it written out like that makes it feel like I already have a TON of skirts. I can see how some of those ladies get to having 30+ skirts, but on the other hand, I feel like if I got close to that it would seem like too much. Example: I have 2 red skirts now (LeiLei and RedMiniTech) and I'm thinking after January I'll probably sell the RedMiniTech...because do I really need 2 red skirts? Clearly the other ladies in the group don't think like that! :rotfl: And thankfully I don't see any other skirts on the website that I feel like I MUST have. Although I have been eyeing PeacockEarth and PurpleXplosion for awhile now...

I heard SS had a 10% off discount for ToT? If they have that for W&D there's no way I WON'T buy something at their booth!
Just subscribing to enjoy all the race reports. I'm hoping to do Wine & Dine next fall
Thank you, and welcome! :) Wine & Dine is a great race, it's my favorite half at WDW!

I love those group custom skirts!! So, how do those work? Is it through the FB fan page? I've seen some posts about it, but haven't explored how they actually work.

This is what i have picked up so far...

Someone decides they want to lead a custom. They post to see if anyone is interested. If they get enough people, they send the custom order off to SSHQ along with a list of names of people who have committed to ordering them. So you commit to the size (and cut, if applicable). Then SSHQ makes the skirts and creates a special button on their order page for the group custom. You can only order the custom if your name is on the list that was sent to SSHQ...so sometimes people will back out and then the extras either go to the waitlist people or are up for grabs on Facebook.

At least that's what I THINK happens. :confused3

I have a lot of pictures from Monday so I decided to make this run and day its own post...don't want to go over my picture allotment. :)

Monday, October 6: Run #1: 3-mile out-and-back in Chicago
Weather: 48 degrees and overcast, occasional rain

Today was the first full day of my conference for work. Originally I was planning on sleeping in today and running tomorrow, but I switched it up - tomorrow is my presentation and my travel day, so the extra sleep will probably be more beneficial to me tomorrow. Plus, it gives my sweaty clothes time to dry before I stuff them into a suitcase euuuuuwwwwww.

Last night the hotel concierge very kindly mapped out a nice route through downtown Chicago for me. The hotel has a nice-looking gym, but a change of scenery is always good!

I packed my running shoes, a long-sleeved shirt, my crops, my Road ID and my Garmin for this run. I forgot my running sunglasses, but it was overcast this morning so I didn’t need them. And I stuck to running 2:30/walking 1:00 intervals.

I left my room at about 7:30 (Central Time) but didn't actually start the run until almost 7:45. My stupid watch took FOREVER to find satellites.

But the run itself was great! I had my phone with me (for safety and pictures) but told myself I'd sort of scope out any photo-ops on the "out" part of the run and not actually take any pictures until I was coming back.

It started to rain lightly at about the halfway point. Before turning around I took some pictures of the harbor!

One last picture from the park:
IMG_0278.JPG

And then I was back at the hotel! This run took awhile (35:47, 11:51/mile pace) but I SO enjoyed it. It was part run, part sight-seeing excursion. So glad I didn't just play it safe and stay on the hotel treadmill. :)

After the run I had breakfast at the hotel (somehow managed to miss the conference breakfast even though the schedule said it went until 10:30 and I was there at 9….oooookay? :headache:) and went to some presentations. THEN, my favorite part of this short trip - shopping!

My hotel was right around the corner from Michigan Avenue, so I skipped the conference dinner (some dinner cruise - I told my boss I was skipping and he was okay with it) and just walked up and down Michigan.

The river:
IMG_0284.JPG

Had to take a lap through the Disney Store, of course! I didn't buy anything since I'll be in Disney soooooon!
IMG_0288.JPG

IMG_0289.jpg

NOM! Just like I'm at Downtown Disney!
IMG_0291.jpg

One thing I figured out early on in this trip is that the black Brooks I was wearing were totally shot. My feet were killing me.

So I decided to try out some Nikes for cross training/everyday wear. I ended up going with the Pegasus model and got the teal shoes (first row, 4th down).
IMG_0295.jpg

I REALLY liked these shoes too, but they were a special edition for the Chicago Marathon (which is happening on Sunday - I'd say that race is on my bucket list!). And I don't buy merch for races I haven't run.
IMG_0297.jpg

PLUS, this special edition part was $25 more than the pair I ended up getting. No thanks.

I ran into a struggle here - my credit card got declined, even though I'd been using it at other places during the day. Apparently I need to be better about telling them when I'm traveling out of state, even though that's never been an issue before. I ended up donating my old Brooks to Nike's recycling program - they use the old shoes to make that soft, rubbery surface that you find in playgrounds. Very cool.

Nighttime!
IMG_0299.jpg

IMG_0300.jpg

I also ended up getting a shirt from the Gap, a pair of boots from Nordstrom that I have been coveting FOREVER (!! :lovestruc) and a Chicago Starbucks mug. Most touristy thing EVER - but it was something I wanted when Will and I came to Chicago 2 summers ago and we could never find it. Finally got that stupid mug!

I covered over 8 miles on foot today, including this morning's run! Almost like when I'm at Disney! I wish Cleveland was walkable like this.
IMG_0309.PNG

All in all, FABULOUS day. Normally this conference keeps me so busy that I never get out to explore the host city, but this year since I explicitly got my boss' blessing, I feel like I fully took advantage. The only thing I didn't get to do was take a cab to have dinner at this little hole-in-the-wall Italian place Will and I tried during our last trip to the city. I was so beat I just ate at the hotel instead. How boring.

#magicaldisneypicschallenge Day 6: Favorite...without a doubt my favorite ride at WDW is Tower of Terror!!

Glad your chicago run was so pretty and you were able to get some shopping done!

Also glad you are recovering from your injuries it seems as your spirits definitely seem higher!

Sounds like an amazing day in Chicago. I LOVE Chicago and especially Michigan Avenue. I'm jealous of your evening there and your great morning run. And BONUS - great shopping purchases as well!

I run in the Nike Pegasus, but I've only tried up to 29, which is the model from 1-2 years ago. I keep finding discounted ones at outlets/ebay so I haven't upgraded yet. I like the look of the new ones! The Pegasus is the only shoe that has worked for me so far.

Me too! Very fun day. :)

I am definitely in a better mood now compared to a couple of weeks ago, that's for sure. :goodvibes Thanks.

It really was. This was only my second time there - the first time was a couple of summers ago and it was blazing uncomfortably hot, so I don't think I really appreciated it as much as I should have. It was so nice to have cooler weather this time.

ASIDE: Did you hear that they are debuting 4 - count 'em, 4! - new SparkleSkirts at the Wine & Dine expo?!

I like them a lot so far! I haven't tried Nikes in years because they were always too narrow for my feet, but these ones are very comfortable. I don't blame you for trying to save some cash by buying the older versions. :thumbsup2

No way!! I had not heard that yet.
The first one is Cherries Jubilee (or something) - no pic

The second is a new peacock skirt:

The Wine one they teased a few months back (WineALittle):
Screen%2BShot%2B2014-10-11%2Bat%2B11.35.35%2BAM.png

And this beer one...I forget what it's called:
Screen%2BShot%2B2014-10-11%2Bat%2B11.42.49%2BAM.png

The wine one is the only one that'll be in swing, slim and hiker. The rest are swing only.

I think I'll need to see all of them in person to really decide. :confused3 The wine one is the only one that is really jumping out at me, of the 3 new ones that have pictures. But I'm not totally 100% convinced on it yet. I think we talked about this but I also want to see SweetSkulls in person. Right now I'm thinking that at the expo I'll possibly get the wine skirt and PeacockEarth:
PcockEarth_1024x1024.jpg

Possibly SweetSkulls if I love it (which I think is pretty unlikely, but I'm curious). Still...I wasn't planning on buying any at the expo, but they'll be RIGHT THERE...goodbye money! :faint:

Thanks for the pics. I think the wine one is also the only one that I might consider. Although the cherry one might be cute too. I don't have any skirts with red really in them, so I'm thinking I want something red next.

Hmmm. None of those new skirts are really standing out for me. Which I suppose is good because I spend quite a bit of $$$ when they had that clearance sake a couple of months ago. My sister is doing Wine and Dine half with me the week before she leaves to be stationed in Japan and I think she is planning on buying as many Sparkle Skirts as will fit in her suitcase :rotfl:

I just read your trip report from last year's Wine and Dine and I am soooooo very excited. Thank goodness you document everything so very well! :thumbsup2

How was the Disneyland Half?! I hope you had an amazing time!!!

Gah! Meant to respond to this like a month ago! The DL half was a lot of fun. It's a different vibe from Tinker Bell- like for the Tink you only run through the castle at the half, and even then you are running towards into run through it. At DL you go through it for the 10k and the half, which I was thrilled for because my younger sister was running the 10K only and she got to run through the castle.
As of now the only WDW race I've done is the Glass slipper challenge, and it seems like for the Princess half you don't get more than two miles of actually being in the parks. With the DL half you get a little more than a 5k in on Disney property. For Tink I think it was after mile 6 before you left Disney property (granted, you did a bit more highway running before you got into the parks but it was still nice to be almost halfway done before leaving Disney property). That being said, the crowd support on the Anaheim Street was so much more than it was at Tink. Or even Princess. I mean, at WDW characters do pop up and that's fun, but if you plan on stopping for pics, it just something you look at as you run by. For DL there are Hawaiian dancers and flamenco dancers and cheerleaders, cheerleaders, cheerleaders and over a mile of antique cars and strangers with candy and boy scouts. And Angels stadium is super amazing. I'm not a baseball fan so I was kind of meh about how much I cared about running through the stadium, but going up that ramp and the roar of the crowd- frickin awesome. I'm so glad it's part of the Avengers course and that I'll get to do it again.

So yes, DL half was great. I'm glad I did it and got my Dumbo medal. That being said, I probably won't ever do this one again, just because training for a half marathon in the summer in Texas was a miserable experience.

And not that you asked for my opinion or anything (spoiler alert, I'm going to give you mine anyway:thumbsup2) but I would put both Tink and Avengers on your race bucket list. While I haven't run Avengers and can't speak for the course, holiday time at Disneyland is totally worth it. There are things at DL you will never see at WDW, like Small World Holiday or Haunted Mansion Holiday, for any Disney theme park fan they are a must do, and the Avengers race just provides a handy excuse to be there (seriously, of all the races, I really want to keep my legacy status for Avengers because that it the best time of year to go to DL). And Tink should be on your race dream sheet to, and that's because of the 5k. It is the ONLY one that starts INSIDE a theme park, so the whole standing around for hours is done on Main Street, which is waaaaaay better than a parking lot! And Tinker Bell starts the race with fireworks. And Tink's flight is another thing that DL does so much better than WDW. She's on like a pulley system or something because she goes up and down and back and forth and swings around. The Tink 5k is my favorite of any of the Disney races I've done thus far. So ..... just some things to think about for future reference ...

Sorry. Your Wine and Dine recap seriously has me giddy and I guess I'm in a chatty (type-y?) mood. Didn't mean to talk your ear off:mic:

Thanks for the pics. I think the wine one is also the only one that I might consider. Although the cherry one might be cute too. I don't have any skirts with red really in them, so I'm thinking I want something red next.
I keep thinking the wine one, but who knows. The skirts look so different in person. Not just in person, really - sometimes I'll see a skirt on the website and not really think much of it, but then I see a "real" picture of it on a "real" person in one of the Facebook groups and I MUST HAVE IT. So we'll see! :rotfl2:

I haven't see a cherries picture yet, if I do I'll let you know!
Nice! I was THISCLOSE to pulling the trigger on Grotto (the old Ariel skirt) and waited long enough that it was gone in my size. Probably a good thing for my wallet.

Your sister sounds like she has her priorities straight!! :rotfl2:
I just read your trip report from last year's Wine and Dine and I am soooooo very excited. Thank goodness you document everything so very well! :thumbsup2
YAY!! :yay: It's going to be so much fun! Thanks for reading my report. :goodvibes

That's good! I'm planning on signing up for Dumbo (if I can get in) - the most castle, the better! :) Glad your sister got to experience it.

::yes:: Yeah that's something that I really don't love about Disney races. I guess it's the nature of how spread out the property is, but still. It's sobering to look at the course maps and see the amount of back roads vs. the amount of park time.
For Tink I think it was after mile 6 before you left Disney property (granted, you did a bit more highway running before you got into the parks but it was still nice to be almost halfway done before leaving Disney property). Wow, if I wasn't sold on running at DL before reading this, I sure would be now! That sounds AWESOME! :) And I AM a baseball fan so I'm looking forward to Angels stadium even more now!
So yes, DL half was great. I'm glad I did it and got my Dumbo medal. That being said, I probably won't ever do this one again, just because training for a half marathon in the summer in Texas was a miserable experience.
I can understand that. Training for a longer race over the summer is super tough.
And not that you asked for my opinion or anything (spoiler alert, I'm going to give you mine anyway:thumbsup2) but I would put both Tink and Avengers on your race bucket list. I'd say all Disney races are on my bucket list at this point! Especially the Tink weekend, and I reeeeeaaally don't like Tink all that much. But I keep heading amazing things about that race weekend.

We (my husband and I) are actually planning a trip to California over Christmas for next year, so I'm so happy to hear that DL has awesome Christmas stuff. The way things are shaking out we'll actually be there ON Christmas, so while that's not exactly ideal...yay for Christmas at Disneyland!
Sorry. Your Wine and Dine recap seriously has me giddy and I guess I'm in a chatty (type-y?) mood. Didn't mean to talk your ear off:mic:
No worries! Thank you so much for all of the information, I really appreciate it! :)

Your Disneyland recaps have me giddy to run Disney again!!! Almost time for Wine & Dine!!! :teeth:

Monday, October 6: Run #1: 3-mile out-and-back in Chicago

See recap here!

Tuesday, October 7: Rest Day

Last day of the work conference! Bring it! :thumbsup2

Or...don't. :faint: Today I work up feeling terrible! I had such a pounding headache. Not sure if I just ran myself ragged yesterday or if that bug I thought I was catching on Sunday has come back with a vengeance...either way, poor timing since my presentation was today!

I had breakfast, bought Tylenol at the hotel gift shop (food and Tylenol helped me feel IMMENSELY better) and then went to some talks. My presentation was at 11:30 and check-out was at noon, so around 10:00 I went back to my room to run through my presentation, pack up and check out.

The presentation was funny. In looking at the schedule I saw that only my paper and one other paper were scheduled in my time slot. This practically gave me a heart attack - would there be, like, 60 people there to see my talk?!

Nope - there were five. FIVE. Turns out lots of people consider 11:30AM to be lunch time. :rotfl2: DUH. My boss was a little annoyed about it, I think because he thought I'd feel bad, like no one cared about my topic, and because I put the work in or whatever. I didn't care! It's so much less intimidating talking in front of less people. I think it went okay.

I had lunch after that, went to a few more talks, and then dragged my luggage (and shopping haul) over to the nearby metro station. Took the metro to Midway, caught my flight, and was home by 9:30. I got a lovely welcome home from Will and Archie. :lovestruc I missed those boys!

This trip wasn't a huge deal, but I’m glad I don't travel for work very often. This conference is the one time of year I do it. I just like being home better. Although next time a conference that is held at Disney comes up (it's happened before and I passed...WHHYYYYYY) you KNOW I will be there!! :)

#magicaldisneypicschallenge Day 7: Costume...behold, the 'munks in their Frontierland gear!

Wednesday, October 8: Run #2: 2-mile run on the treadmill + Ab Burner

Let me tell you...I was not a happy camper this morning. When my alarm went off at 5 I was seriously considering just shutting it off. I felt like I could have used another 2-3 hours of sleep!

BUT...the Wine & Dine Half Marathon is 1 month from TODAY! And normally I'd take today, the day after the conference, off without having to use time from my Paid Time Off bank (since I was at the conference on a Sunday, I get a free flex day). But I'm not taking today off because, instead, I'm using that flex day to go to Disney one day earlier than I originally planned. So as tough as it was to drag myself out of bed today, I know it'll be worth it and I'll be so happy that I did it when I’m checking into Pop on November 5!!

My slow build-up with running continues. Last week I ran 10 miles total over 3 days. This week I'm planning on 14 miles total over 4 days with 2 days in a row of running (today and tomorrow). Next week will be 17 miles over 4 days, with 3 days in a row of running. Slow and steady.

Today's run was just okay. I felt some soreness in my right foot, but it wasn’t the arch - more in the big toe. It was still discouraging though. I have to think that all of the walking I’ve been doing has something to do with that - 8.61 miles total on Monday (3 of those were that morning’s run) and...not sure how much yesterday, I can’t get the phone to just show me the total for a day that has passed already. Arg. But I think it was 3 or 4 miles, all in my new boots (which were too big to pack in my small suitcase or carry-on). The good thing is that the soreness was only temporary and was gone for the final half-mile or so. It’s not bothering me at all now. Total time for the run was 23:14, 11:37/mile pace...still sticking with running 2:30/walking 1:00. I’m hoping to bump it up to running 3:00/walking 1:00 next week.

And I wore my new Haunted skirt for the first time - finally! It arrived in the mail right in the midst of all that injury nonsense, and has been sitting in my closet just taunting me.

I just love it so.

Thursday, October 9: Run #3: 3-mile run on the treadmill + Extreme Abs

**WW UPDATE**

:( Not good for me today. I know I ate a bunch of crappy food at that conference...drank tons of coffee and almost no water...yet I was surprised to see that I was up almost 2 pounds this morning. OUCH. Hopefully it’ll go away very, very soon.

The rest of my day has been pretty good after a poor start. The run went well this morning. I stuck with running 2:30 at a 10:10 pace/walking 1:00 for the first 1.8 miles. I had some soreness in my foot, but it got better as the run went on. Eventually it was gone completely, so for the last 1.2 miles I changed my intervals to running 3:00/walking 1:00. And I could do it! Woohoo! Total time for the run was 34:30, 11:30/mile pace. Definitely enjoying the seeing the pace go down little by little. I’m not sure if I’ll stick to the 2:30 or 3:00 running intervals for Saturday’s run...hmm…

Another good thing for today - someone in the locker room told me that my outfit was cute. I’d been sort of getting down on myself for the 2 weeks in a row of bad weigh-ins, so the compliment made me feel a little better.

Post-run outfit picture...orange Nike tank and PeacockOrchid SparkleSkirt. Love these Peacock skirts...I feel like they look good with lots of tops because they are so colorful.

After the run I did Extreme Abs. It went better than last week...I felt like I did a little better on the plank portion.

Jingle Jungle 5K/Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend update: Waivers and corrals were released today! So exciting, because we are one step closer to race weekend!

For the 5K, my bib number is WEIRDLY low at 641. Last year I was 1085 or something and that put me in Corral A, so I’m almost surely there again. This makes me think that they just assign the bib numbers for the 5K based on sign-up times, because come on...Corral A? Moi? Not so much. My friend that is running the race with me is in the 650s and I know she signed up right around the same time that I did, so this would sort of help to confirm my theory.

As for Wine & Dine, I’m #2680, Corral E...very close to where I was last year (2808, Corral E). My other friends are in F and I, so we’ll be starting in I so that we can run together! :)

2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend update: I’ve been wanting to rent points at the Grand Californian for next year’s Disneyland Half Marathon weekend. Only problem is that point rentals are non-refundable (at least with the place where I rent from) and I wasn’t about to plunk the cash down when runDisney hadn’t announced the dates of the race yet. It’ll be me and two, possibly three, of my friends going down for the race weekend (the same friends I’ll be staying with in Disney ONE MONTH FROM TODAY NO BIG DEAL OR ANYTHING AHHHHH), and we all agreed that we want to stay on property. Yes I know there are cheaper options that are technically off-property, yet are really close by...but darn it, we want that Disney magic. Plus the price is a lot easier to swallow when it’s split 3 or 4 ways.

Anyway, since we want to stay on-property, our pickens are slim. That’s the nature of having a resort with 3 hotels. Between the four of us we have absolutely zero experience with Disneyland races and I was starting to wonder if the hotels would be full if we waited to book a room. So I texted my friends and suggested we at least get SOMETHING booked - then once the dates were officially released we could try to rent the VGC points.

They agreed, so I messaged the travel agent friend we all use and she secured a room for us - standard view at Paradise Pier! AKA the cheapest option. :) This was exactly one week ago.

And then today, runDisney tweeted out the official race calendar* - sure enough, Disneyland Half weekend is over Labor Day, just as it always is. :rolleyes2 So much for my great theories about the date possibly moving! ANYWAY...once I saw that I texted my friends again to get the okay to try for those VGC points, and I sent a request to the company.

They came back and said that while there IS availability at VGC, there are no points that I can currently rent right now. This isn’t that surprising to me - the only people allowed to rent right now are VGC owners. So I am currently somewhere in the rental company’s queue, and if a new VGC member with points to rent doesn’t join in the next few months, I guess they’ll try again at the 7-month mark (when non-VGC owners would be able to book there).

So this is basically exactly what happened when I tried to rent points at Villas at Grand Floridian/Bay Lake Tower waaaaay back in February for Marathon Weekend. In that case I stayed on the waiting list and the rooms I wanted ended up filling, so I made a new reservation (which I am happy with!). I have a feeling those Grand Californian Studios will go away over the next few days/weeks, especially since the DLH Weekend dates are now official...we’ll see. If we can secure a studio, it’ll only cost $150 more total than our current Paradise Pier set-up (I would have put a second and third choice, but my second choice - a 1-bedroom - would have been almost $3000!!! No thank you!!!) and we are all definitely willing to pay an extra $50-$75 apiece to upgrade to the deluxe resort. :) If it doesn’t work out, we still have our Paradise Pier room ready to go. We’ll be happy either way.

*The calendar is interesting - no ToT for 2015? No EE Challenge for 2016? HMMM

Other random news: I forget if I said this earlier, but in case I didn’t, my refund for the now-canceled Rock & Roll Cleveland Half Marathon (which would have been this weekend) finally showed up on my credit card this week. Yay! AND...I sold those awful Raw Threads crops on the Facebook group. I paid $58 for them with free shipping and they actually sold for $55 (I will cover the shipping). I thought that was pretty good! Get out of my house, stupid crops!

Friday, October 10: 45-minute Core class

I think that bug that I had earlier this week came back with a vengeance today - that or I'm just continuing to recover from my little trip. I slept almost 12 hours last night! Yikes.

Despite all of the sleep, this day started eeeaaaarly with core class. I was so nervous to go to this class the night before and wasn't sure why. But when I got there I figured it out quickly.

Today we were using the BOSU trainer (the half-ball thing), the discs (like frisbees - put them on your feet while in plank position and your feet slide around), medicine balls and large inflatable balls. There were plastic bins along one of the walls and some of them had the big inflatable balls in them. I went and grabbed one and went to my spot.

Well, I failed to see that the ball I grabbed was right by a pile of other stuff - I’d grabbed someone’s ball on accident. I gave it back of course, but meanwhile this lady that was there for the class (NOT the one whose ball I took) was like, “Oh, look at the new girl! Stealing your ball!”

“Haha, yep, sorry about that!” I said as I returned the ball. But the other lady just sort of kept saying how I was the new girl and went on about it for a good 30-45 seconds. Ooooookay. Meanwhile the lady whose ball I’d taken was super nice and took me to where the rest of the balls were and helped me pick out what she deemed was a “good one” (it was). I was pretty rattled from what had happened with the other lady so I totally appreciated her doing this.

And that, to me, is the difference between this core class and yoga, and why I was so nervous to go this morning. When I go to yoga, I don’t feel like anyone is looking at or judging me. In this core class, everyone seems to be very aware that I am new, and that’s a bit uncomfortable. Freaking ridiculous.

I’m sure the lady that was pointing out that I was new was joking, but it was still weird. As Will said, it’s different if someone comes up to me like, “Hey, I haven’t met you yet! My name is Jenny!” or something. The teacher chatted with me a bit at the end of last week’s class, saying that I’d done the right thing by modifying and would catch up soon, so obviously that was fine. Versus someone else shouting about how the new girl stupidly took someone’s ball. :rolleyes2 There’s a difference!

Will also thinks that the lady this morning was a witch (except, you know, not with a “w”). I’d have to agree with that.

Once class started, though, I did like it, just like last week. I felt like I kept up a wee bit better this time, but was still modifying a lot of stuff. Mostly the push-ups. My arms are just so freaking weak, which is disappointing after months of ChaLEAN Extreme. I might start trying to throw in 10-15 push-ups after my weekday runs just so I can try to catch up.

All that to say that, despite that weird lady, I’m still sticking with core class - it IS doctor-recommended, after all. :thumbsup2 Sorry mean lady, I’m going to continue to infect your precious Friday mornings with my newness. In fact, I signed up for Monday’s class too. If I want to do that regularly that’ll mean a shift in my weekly schedule. We’ll see how THAT goes!

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to fit yoga today and had to miss class. :( I was so disappointed! I haven’t been to yoga in awhile now and was really looking forward to it. I am determined to make it there on Sunday morning!

In Disney planning news, my friend who is the lead guest on our “main” reservation for Wine & Dine (where we’ll be Thursday - Monday) texted us to ask what Magical Express info she needed to add to our reservation. This made me remember that I hadn’t added Magical Express stuff to the 1-night stay at Pop that is booked for me and one of my 4 friends. So I did that. Gimme my yellow luggage tags!!

Saturday, October 11: Run #4 (6-mile out-and-back)
Weather: 54 degrees and sunny, with occasional clouds

Woohoo! Two weeks in a row of completing all of my runs! :yay:

Today’s run was really good overall - it’s the first one I have had in awhile where my foot didn’t hurt at all. That in and of itself makes it a great run. I can still feel that I have a ways to go in gaining back the endurance and speed I lost by not running last month, but I'm getting there.

The weather today was perfect, and I dressed like a pretty purple peacock:
IMG_0372.JPG

Paired with a neon yellow long-sleeved top...yellow and purple are complimentary colors (so I learned in elementary school art class)...it totally goes, right? Maybe? Nah.

I decided to up my intervals so that I was running 3 minutes and walking 1 minute. Total time for this run was 1:05:43, 10:57/mile pace. Woohoo, in the 10s!!!! And in looking at my splits, of my 17 running intervals, all but 3 were at sub-10:00/mile pace - with my fastest at an 8:51/mile pace (toward the end I decided I reeeeally wanted to finish with my pace under 11:00/mile, so I started to really move). Which explains why I was huffing and puffing so much. But still, yay! Maybe the speed is coming back...it’s definitely there in the numbers but I don’t totally feel it yet.

Another YAY - Magic Bands for the one night at Pop arrived today! Yeehaw!

#magicaldisneypicschallenge Day 11: sun...shining down on a duck butt on the Disney Dream!

Sunday, October 12: Hot Yoga Flow

Finally went back to yoga today! It wasn’t my favorite class ever (lots of balance posts today, and I just felt like my balanced sucked more than usual for whatever reason) but I’m glad I went. I used my new yoga mat and while it functioned really well, it STINKS. It just gives off such a strong rubber smell. When I bought the mat 2 weeks ago or whatever the receptionist at the studio suggested unrolling it to air it out - instead I left it rolled up in my car. Oops!

In other news, my brother has been telling me that he's been drinking 3 liters - a little over 100 ounces! - of water each day and it's making him feel awesome. So I tried that today, and it was shockingly not that hard to do. I mentioned I was really bad with drinking water in Chicago and I haven't been great since I got back either, so I'm wondering if this is some residual dehydration. It certainly got corrected today!

#magicaldisneypicschallenge Day 12: free...in 2011 we had dinner at Citricos and were celebrating our 2-year wedding anniversary - hooray for free champagne!
