This is what I want to do. Me and the new wife will be staying at disney but will attend universal and islands for one day. We always used to get an express pass but the downside was that it only worked once per ride. They roughly cost $50 per person so $100. I can get a 1 night room with florida resident discount for $150 at a universal resort. Then by getting two room keys we can use express as much as we want for that day. It's about $50 more but to me that seems worth it as much as we will use the express line. Thoughts?

Good plan and it will work.

Although, a better plan is to plan on 2 days at the parks since the ticket increase would be negligible (if anything) and your room keys are valid for FOTL access on the day of check-in & the day you check out.

We will be there for two weeks. Jan 29 - feb 12. Wedding and honeymoon. Next question with this plan would you either book a room right now and have a set plan or could I wing it and on my way to universal stop at portofino and grab a room. Pros and cons to each...If I book right now i'm committing to going that day...if I wing it i'm risking that they might not have any rooms for $150. what do you think

Book it now. 1 less thing to worry about as with your wedding you have enough on your plate. Congratulations!

Ok third and final question. Say I get to the resort at 10ish and my "room" isn't ready. Can I still get the keys for the park?

If you've got two full weeks then I would definitely recommend not only one night, but possibly 2-3 (or 4-5...6 :D) at Universal. The hotels are REALLY nice and there's a lot to do at Universal, IOA, and CityWalk.

Congratulations on the wedding!!!

Agreed. :)

Can't imagine anything better than a Portofino honeymoon.

Then again, my honeymoon was over 21 years ago. My tastes at 42 may be different than yours.

The good news is, if your new marriage can survive 2 hour waits in line, multiple times a day, for multiple days, with Disney crowds - it'll survive anything. :)

I can... a Royal Pacific honeymoon. I'm biased though, since that's what I did, haha. :)

:lmao: Good one! :)

Sounds like a good plan. I would book the room early though, just in case. Congratulations and have a great time!

Just so the OP knows, you can certainly go to Disney and not wait in lines. We've been the week between XMAS & New Years a couple of times (which is absolute peak crowds), and never waited longer than 15-20 minutes for anything, and many times 10 or less.

We're trying Universal Orlando for the first time ever having only been to Universal Hollywood once for comparison. We enjoyed our day there, but I do remember lines being horrendous, and a 1 hour wait was the norm with no options for a shorter wait.

This upcoming so-called "cheaper" trip to Universal is costing us so much more than any of our Disney trips! The Universal tickets appeared to start off cheap with the 7 day tickets (which we'll go for 4), but by the time we add either a Universal hotel stay or the Express Pass which will absolutely be necessary because it will be a peak week before Easter, the price is about 1/3 higher than our normal Disney trip!

Sorry to go off on a tangent, and I know that there are rather vocal Universal supporters here (as there should be :thumbsup2 ), but I just had to speak up and state that someone who has done any amount of research at all should not be spending 2 hours in any line at Disney!

We are looking forward to our first Universal Orlando trip, and I'm really trying to tell myself and others in my group not to expect it to be Disney (which we love :wizard: ). I know it will be different, and different is OK. I just wish we didn't have to spend $365 for a single night's hotel room that we won't even use just to be able to visit the attractions without horrendous wait-times! Disney's free fast-pass is wonderful!
