In some creepy news from Florida this week...

You finally said it...this entire thread I was thinking "Deliverance!...Must NOT say anything about "Deliverance"", and restraining myself from posting a link to the scene from that movie which shall be referred to only as "EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" :lmao::rotfl:

Yeah that's right, we are all so like Deliverance here in Florida. Give me a break. Did it ever occur to anyone here that most Floridians these days are from up north. hum. How does that play into the Deliverance thang I wonder?

Nobody was saying that the average Florida family is like the "Deliverance" family. I'm from up north - New York. I think you should reread the post. It was saying that based on the two news articles, it appears that Florida is okay with the "Deliverance" type family, but not okay with same sex couples adopting. It was pointing out the absurdity in all that. I think for the most part, the average Floridian would rather see bestiality outlawed over gay adoptions. Unfortunately, it seems that the state is okay with bestiality and that type of "Deliverance" behavior, but not okay with same sex couples providing a healthy and safe household for parentless children. I don't know how you made the leap that all Florida families are like "Deliverance". That is taking our statements completely out of context.

Well I am sorry but to me the above statement was implying that Florida is like Deliverance. Deliverance family was imbreeding, I don't think anyone here is for imbreeding. that is what was wrong with the teenage boy. If that is the family you are talking about. Maybe I am wrong and that isn't what you guys are talking about. Again, as a southerner, I take offense to everyone thinking that we think it is ok to date you cousins

Also, the the EEEEEE sqeal like a pig part of the movie (if that is what is being talked about) is a man being raped by a man. Now don't read anything into that. I have friends that are gay, and have NO problem with them. both male and female. So I don't see how anyone using that scene would describe the situation going on in Florida, unless I am missing the point completely.

Also, I don't think that Florida is ok with bestiality, probably thought that there wasn't much reason to even talk about it. Although I am sure that there are some wackos out there who probably are into it. But gay adoption is a big issue, weather or not you agree with it or not, so I don't think you can compare the two. There are lots of laws on the books that aren't worth the time to get them taken off because they are just so over the top.

Perhaps a new political party could arise from this. We already have the Donkeys and the elephants, why not the goats?

I can see the campain slogan now: Vote Goat! We're not that Baaaaad!

I wasn't implying that all Southerners (or any Southerners, or, in fact, anyone at all from any region), are like the characters in Deliverance...I was implying that people who think it's ok to have relations with animals are like the people in Deliverance. And that the certain scene from that movie implied that the character in question prefers animals to humans. I think we can all agree, no matter where we're from, that something like that is unacceptable.

I certainly meant no offense to anyone from the South. If the characters in the movie had, say, New York accents, or British accents, or dressed in medieval garb, or hippie clothes, or whatever common denominator all the characters shared, I'd still compare the characters in that film to the people who think it's ok to have relations with animals. I meant no offense to Southerners, or GLBT people...just to people who do a certain thing I'm sure we can all agree on is "not ok".

That is the family we were talking about. It was implied that the family in that movie engaged in bestiality. That family was being used to show an example of Florida's ludicrous decision to throw out the law that would have banned bestiality, due to their perception that ordinary Floridians would not want to waste time banning that practice. I don't think any Floridian in his or her right mind would be upset over a law banning bestiality.

You're not missing the point entirely. What you need to do is look at these two decisions that just happened. Florida discarded a law that would have banned bestiality, fearing debate and controversy. Who would debate bestiality? At the same time, they continued their fight to deny stable Florida families from adopting children that desperately need homes and families. So, in a sense, Florida is saying that it is okay with "Deliverance" type behavior, but not okay with "Modern Family" type families.

It has nothing to do with southerners, but everything to do with the absurdity of these two decisions.

Wow! Really? Where on earth did you read that? We must be reading two different threads. You seem to be making quite a jump.

Nope not really making a jump, but we have to just agree to disagree. Maybe it is because for SOOOOOO many years, we have been accused of so many things. And really to even use Deliverance and any state in the south, most of us would be offended, IMHO. Because we are so not like that. that is my only point.

I think that what most of us can all agree on, is that politics in general makes no sense, and is usually full of crap.

I stand by the definition of Politics that I read somewhere.
Poly-meaning many
Tics-blood sucking insects.

I think that about sums it up for me.

Yes, but this isn't political. The same sex adoption issue is being debated over and over again in the courts. It's just bigotry and hatred refusing to go away.

I also can't imagine the bestiality issue being political. I haven't heard of any party endorsing it. I think it is universally looked down upon.

When I say political I don't mean Democrat or Republican. You brought up the Fl state Legislature. and George Rekers was paid by the state with tax dollars. That is political. Yes is is bigotry and hatred, but since when is that off limits to politics? On either side.

Just so it's clear to anyone else that may be overly sensitive, please reread the bolded part. This thread has nothing to with political parties or political debates, and everything to do with the absurdity of the decisions being made by my state. It transcends party lines and logic altogether.

I can usually tell when a thread is going to head south rather quickly. I never would have guessed it with this thread. I definitely think this is a case of a few being over sensitive.

And for the record......when I said head south, in no way, shape or form was I making any reference to people in the south doing anything inappropriate.

On a more cheerful note - my son has been taking full advantage of the extra freedoms that our state allows. Here he is getting ready to head out to the "Spring Fling" with his date...

And to answer the burning question: Yes - they would be eligible to adopt, as the llama is a female.

Marvellous job as always, Florida!

I would LOVE to hear a debate on bestiality! What on earth would the defence be? "My cow just looked at me a certain way - he made the first move!"
