I don't believe what I've just received....

Dh and I decided to have a new kitchen fitted, not a particularly expensive one admittedly, but does it really cost £1500+ to fit it, when the fitter tells me it will only take him and his mates 2 days to complete?

I thought lawyers were extortionate..............

Or have I lost touch with the real world.

I'm going to sit down now

I think I'll encourage my kids to become kitchen fitters or plumbers and forget about university in the future!!

LOL ~ I dont know about Plumbers Libby - the only reason I encouraged my son to follow us in the family business was because fixing a tap or boiler is something that could never be computerised or carried out by a robot (although the somewhat comatosed state of DS after a heavy night makes me wonder!) ~~~ it certainly wasnt for the financial side of it! LOL

Maybe we ought to change direction for our business and go more into the Kitchen fitting side of stuff

That seems a heck of a lot of money for two days work Annie - were the units flat packed or custom made?

You see this is why I keep encouragin my nephews to move away from Computers the money is going to be in Plumbing, electrical, carpentary because no-one wants to trainfor these jobs anymore and there'll be a shortage in the future !!

Oh yes, tell me about it!!! We have just extended our house and had a new conservatory and new kitchen. I have got 3 builders doing the work and it has taken ages to do. The kitchen is nearly done and I reckon it has taken about 5 days to fit it but it is a very large kitchen (25' x 19' L-shaped). The flat packs take a while to build but once they are done, they seem to be put up quite qickly. It is the bits like light pelmets, cornices etc. that take time.

To give you an idea, my plasterer charges £200 per day (labour only, not materials) and my builder is £110 which is apparently cheap as he a colleagues husband, the chippie charges £110 and the young builders mate is £50 a day!!!!

I dread to think how much it has cost in total

Only £2:60 a pint thats cheap where i come from. Expect to pay £5:00 a pint at a venue round here

Blimey Annie that's really expensive!!

We paid £1100 which was for 2 people for approx 4 days, although the kitchen came ready assembled.

I'd shop around if I were you!!

I'd have thought £100-150 per day was reasonable for skilled labour - who would want to work for less? (No I am not in the building trade!)
