In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

I got the job, I start February 7th!!!!

Ok had to get that out.. now back to catch up.

Meg - that is awesome news! Congrats on the new job. You deserve this.

Long @ss day for me. Still feeling meh.

Lisa posted and that makes me smile so that is a good thing. Rob is opening up to us which is also a good thing. BTW - I remember seeing a few guys running last year that were dressed as frogs! Loved them!!!

Crashing hard tonight so I am heading to bed.

YAY! Hi!!! Up reading about running. Yes, crazy friend. :rotfl2: Talk tomorrow?

Anyhoo, did you see my Vera? Don't you want one? And listen, tell the truth. Is 8 miles hard for you? Because like 5 is for me. Is 8 like my 5, or like my 8?

YES it was a challenge for me. I knew it would be--I haven't done that distance in AGES. Not since my Half last summer. July? Maybe August? Anyway, a long time.

Now, I am not sure WHY it was hard. Was it actually the distance? Or was it more the roads and weather? I have no way of knowing until I do my next long run. It was "lumpy" running, which I hate. Running on packed down snow over the top of the road. That really changed things. Not the whole way was like that--plenty of dry pavement as well. But I was constantly switching from running on snow to pavement and back again. And I really feel that. BOTH of my IT bands are twinging right now.

Also, the weather screwed me up a bit. It was GORGEOUS when I started. Bright, brilliant sun. Crystal blue skies...always after a storm, right? So I was totally comfortable in just a long sleeve tech shirt. I broke a sweat and everything. But once I hit the 4 mile mark, the clouds rolled in and the wind picked up and I was cold! I was damp from sweating and then a winter wind picked up and I was definitely not dressed right anymore. Of course, I had a tech jacket around my waist. It's winter in Maine and I'm not an idiot. But still. I got chilled to the bone since I had already broken a sweat, if that makes sense. Unpleasant. You, my temperature-sensitive friend, would have been miserable.

Finally, this was the first time I have used fuel in ages. And I fueled too late. I should have fueled at 4.5 miles and I waited till 5.5. So I really struggled from mile 5.5 - 6.5 when the fuel finally kicked in.

Sorry, you got the long version! :rotfl2:

This reminds me...JO--are you fueling? Do you know how to? Can we help? You want to experiment with a variety of things before race day.

Paula--SO late for you! Get some rest, my friend.

Liz--not crazy about that particular bag. BUT...Katelyn (the girlfriend) loves Vera so I am getting her something for her birthday next month. I'll have to call her mom and see what she already has. Of course Riley is NO help. :sad2: See? I am going to be an awesome MIL! :rotfl2: I buy Vera for gifts! Snow stick my a$$.... :lmao:

Thank you everyone for the congrats. Once I spent some time last night chilling out I kind of came to grips with the idea of leaving my current children. I'm like Mary Poppins leaving the Banks children, it's just the right time. (Sigh love Mary Poppins/Julie Andrews.)

Rob- I love a good story about a first meeting. You're brave for putting up with all us ladies!

Jo- The girls are keeping you busy with illness. Glad Alexa is okay!

Liz- I forgot to come back with my shirt size, my brain was scrambled yesterday. I'll go with large.

Nancy & Liz- I'm allergic to penicillin as well. It's the whole reason I got a road id.

Lisa- I'm sorry you've had some hard days. I should let you know that I've held out on the details on the boy that you'd really want to hear. Did I mention he had a vase of flowers on the bedside table waiting for me? Or that Saturday night we had a nice bottle of wine that was from the year we graduated high school? I've failed you in my story telling.

Erika reminded me I need to go out and buy some more sport beans. For me they're the only thing I can force down.

Oh and Liz I love the new Vera!! My friend keeps telling me to get a Longchamp because certain colors are on sale but... for half the price I could get a new Vera in the new purple they have out. I could use a new Vera. (I don't know why, my old ones are perfectly fine. They just aren't in the new patterns. :rotfl:)

Happy Friday!!!

Morning All.

Yes I am fueling, I use sports beans about at the 45 min mark and every 30-45 after that. When I run outside I am good, I just can't get the miles done at home on the treadmill.

Meg, Think of it this way with the kids, every year they grow a bit and move up into another grade. So just think of it as a "fresh class" of preschoolers.

So the drinking shirt is not going to change? We have Antie Anne's Pretzels. But I can say I have never had a pretzel dog.

Liz, did you get my PM with my email address?

Jo--glad you are fueling. I hadn't heard you mention it, so I just wanted to make sure we hadn't failed you. :goodvibes

For me, I have to switch fuels, I think. I have always, always used Gu and been fine with that. But yesterday...oy...made me gag. So. I like sport beans so I will likely go that route.

Pretzel dogs--I haven't ever had one as I am a vegetarian anyway. And fortunately, most of us here have never had one. But there was a day a couple of years ago on this thread where there was a funny story about a pretzel dog, and it's one of those things that just stuck and took on a life of its own. I will look at the back of the shirt again and see if I can post an explanation for each of the phrases on there. This thread has been going for 3 years (just about to the day!) so of course there are a lot of jokes over that period of time.

E, you guys have not failed me. OMG

This thread and you ladies and Rob!! have been my life line.
You all have helped me , deal with the what if's, do for myself, step out of my comfort zone, and help me reach a goal I have always had but have never told anyone and that is to finish a half marathon. I am still puggy, and I am still slow, but I will cross that finish line!!!!!
And now I know I will be hammed hours later HA HA HA :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Thank You!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

One last question on the drinking shirt, its early in the morning..
Do I order it in black? or any color?

Oh--fun news! We are doing a last-minute week-end trip tomorrow! Heading to CoCo Key Water Resort in Boston with 3 other families! Exciting! We are only staying over one night (the others are staying both Sat. and Sun. nights since Monday is a holiday). But Jeff doesn't have Monday off, so we will leave here first thing Saturday morning (right after my run, of course ;) ) and be home Sunday night.

For those that don't know, CoCo Key is a chain of hotels (there is one in Orlando) that have full-scale water parks in them. Of course, the ones here in the Northeast are INDOOR water parks. It is SO fun to be able to hit a water park in the dead of winter. So anyway, those are our week-end plans. :thumbsup2

Rob - we know Rob now. :goodvibes Nice. Good work Liz.

That kind of prying its totally my comfort zone! :lmao:

Liz - got it. I'm sorry that I don't come across as supportive. Truly.

I edting this reply, because I will probably edit most of what I write about this...but you are being supportive. Totally. I can explain offline. We need another NYC day!

No, the long version is good! Interesting. I never run outside, well, I only wog to train, so there you go. And it's winter and I already fell on ice without even trying! But the mileage is interesting. I wonder how my training would be different from yours, if I was at the same pace and miles, inside versus outside. I personally think real runners love the outside and then there's people like me...perfectly happy in temperature controlled gyms! :rotfl:

Liz--not crazy about that particular bag. BUT...Katelyn (the girlfriend) loves Vera so I am getting her something for her birthday next month. I'll have to call her mom and see what she already has. Tell me. Do you not like the color or style? The style is brand new and here's what I love about it. It's like the mini hipster but better! All your stuff is more accessible, it's perfect for tossing cameras and phones but also sunglasses, which the mini hipster totally failed me on. I don't see the pattern as you, but there are some really cute new bags in this line. Go check them out! spend $65 and you get a free coin purse. I know, I know, I missed my calling in sales.

Thank you everyone for the congrats. Once I spent some time last night chilling out I kind of came to grips with the idea of leaving my current children. I'm like Mary Poppins leaving the Banks children, it's just the right time. (Sigh love Mary Poppins/Julie Andrews.)

See? We anti-mold girls gotta stick together!

SO sweet!!!!

I know, no one needs a new Vera...but yet you need a new Vera! It's just how it goes! :lmao:

Drinking shirt is set! Next year we will have a new one!

Yes, got your PM. I'm just super slow on stuff like that. I still owe Amy a file from Monday and it's Friday!

SO fun!!!! Like Great Wolf Lodge, but nicer? Or the same? I've never been to either, I fear waterparks, but I might try them now that I am a grown up. :rotfl2::rotfl2: Oh, who am I kidding? This summer I sat and read while N and E went on slides! They scare me! But I love the idea of warmth and water and chairs and lazy rivers.

Nothing doing this weekend...except packing. And writing a very detailed schedule of my daughter's life for her grandparents! Lisa, I am shocked you did not bite at this island escape! ;)

I must chim in about that watepark.
I am not sure if you know but I work for a indoor waterpark.
I have made my kids watearpark snobs! :lmao:
We have been to the Wilderness & Kalahari in the Dells. Coco Key, Key Lime Cove and the one I work for.

The Coco Key by me closed down this year, and they have one in Rockford about 2 or so hours away.

Our Fav is Key Lime Cover. Hoping I don't shop too much at Disney so we can take the girls there when I get back.

Anything you would ever want to know about a waterpark or hotel, I know!!

So fun! I would ask you all the details but you might not want them online! So tell us what you can and rest assured I will quiz you heavily in Disney!

We have a Great Wolf nearby. Waterpark right now sounds really nice. The little kids gathering under the giant bucket and waiting for the bell are adorable! Best part, no sun screen... hate the stuff.

Fueling - I've used Gu and love Chocolate Outrage. For me Gu is great in principle, but lousy in practice. The lousy part is throwing away the packet and tab. Stars have to align to be on a walk break at a trash can. If I end up carrying it for a while, it's treated like nuclear waste. Can't come into contact with anything else. It's like that kid's sock in Monster's Inc. And lately there's been the freezing problem ; ) I've started using Shot Bloks. Chew enough to swallow. Fuel isn't to savor. Less mess. I like the Sport Beans, too, but there are lots of them. It's unsightly, but I can get three BLOKS in my mouth and get moving. I'll have to try the same with beans.

Liz - I hope the new Vera soothes your wounds - including the ripping. Ouch. Just ouch.

Rob - Do the Donald in 2012! Yes! I'm hoping to do the Mickey in 2012. DGF and I both grew up around St Louis and make the trek across MO several times a year.

Speaking of DGF she's headed to St Louis this weekend. Her mom is having some dental work done today. Sue will hang out with her and come back Sunday. Her brother may go along. He lives a little west of KC.

I will spend the weekend looking at European maps and taking pictures. We are planning a trip to the continent in May. OMG airfare! I have some new photo lighting equipment and want to figure out where things work best. If the cat would hold still it would be great. Instead I am looking for a mannequin head to figure out shadows.

That is an excellent point! No sunscreen! Living where I do and going to the beach every weekend in the summer - we just live in that stuff. That's what I run out of all the time and have to dash to the store for! I remember last summer, out with a good friend I hadn't seen, having to sheepishly ask if we could find a drugstore so I could reload my child for the next day at camp! Suddenly, indoor waterparks are looking good.

I love the sportbeans. I chew them one at a time, though, or I can get overload. Those little packets I can tuck away. The Gu grosses me out, and most of that is the leftover packet - perfect description! It IS like that sock in Monsters, Inc! :lmao:

Liz - I hope the new Vera soothes your wounds - including the ripping. Ouch. Just ouch.

The waxing is the least painful, sad but true! I'm so happy not to have leg hair on the beach next week! But this morning, dressing my wounds...heel blister, Neosporin and bandage, check. Cuts on my legs, check. Cuts on my hand, check. I felt like I was 6 again, with the boo-boos I used to get from running and falling at recess. You know those torn up asphalt parking lots? Yep.

Rob - Do the Donald in 2012! Yes! I'm hoping to do the Mickey in 2012. DGF and I both grew up around St Louis and make the trek across MO several times a year.

The Donald is different from the Mickey? Is one in LA? I get so confused by the races. Must find web page!

Her mom doing okay?

That sounds fabulous. What did Lisa say about me? I have a fun life? Well, so do you! Where are you going in Europe?

Liz, I will fill you in at disney for sure,
but until then, when you go to check into a hotel do not put your bag on the floor or the bed, first thing you do is check the bed, pull back the sheets, the mattress pad and look at the seams of the mattress, if you see lot of black or brown dots, get a new room.

The comforter on a hotel bed is drycleaned once a quarter. Maybe more for disney cuz they are so busy.

Jo--I knew you worked for a hotel, just didn't know it was one of the water park ones!

Liz--Yes, just like Great Wolf lodge. They have a spa! Hmmmm.... Actually I am getting a pedi today. Already had one planned as a reward for yesterday's long run, so the timing is perfect!

Ronda--spot on about the Gu! That is how I feel, too. And yes, chocolate outrage was my flavor of choice. Not sure why all of a sudden it made me gag???

OH MY WORD. Frango mint chocolates! Heaven!

Ok, Jo. Now that Liz posted that link I've looked them up. Who *wouldn't* want some?!!? YUM! :goodvibes

Nancy - did you answer? Did I miss it? Gym how far?

12-15 minutes. 17 if I get behind a school bus.

Long @ss day for me. Still feeling meh.

Hope today is a better day for you Paula

It was "lumpy" running, which I hate.

I find this description to be hilarious! :rotfl2: But I do know exactly what you mean.

Snow stick my a$$.... :lmao:

Thank you. Choked on my coffee for that one. :lmao:

When I run outside I am good, I just can't get the miles done at home on the treadmill.

I'm having a very difficult time with the "at home" part as well. If I go to the gym to use the TM, I'll do it. At home I keep finding other things to distract me and it just doesn't happen!

Heading to CoCo Key Water Resort in Boston with 3 other families! Exciting!

yay for bathing suit ?  Really though - have fun!

Fueling - I've used Gu and love Chocolate Outrage. For me Gu is great in principle, but lousy in practice. The lousy part is throwing away the packet and tab. :rotfl2::rotfl2: YES! That's how I feel about Gu too! love/hate. No doubt.

I will spend the weekend looking at European maps and taking pictures. We are planning a trip to the continent in May.

oh how FUN! So very jealous!

Liz - ::MickeyMo Mickey is a full marathon, :donald: Donald is a half. Run both (1/2 Saturday, full Sunday) and that gets you a Goofy.:goofy:

I can't post too much, but I'm having an anti work day. I found a great rental price on a grand Cherokee. $218 - 1 week. Never had a pretzel dog, but I bet I could make a lower calorie one. That is if it appealed to me. I do love pretzel bread, but I know it's bad for me. Moderation!

Ah, now you're speaking my language!

Ah, right. The Goofy is crazy! Do we know people who did it???

GREAT price! I still wish that you could fly, for you!

I love pretzel bread. I would probably love pretzel dogs. I won't try one though, in case I do!

Erika, I just sent you a PM of the name and link to my hotel.

Nancy, I have already told my family that I am goin gto the gym to do my 10 tomorrow, I am going to do a combo for treadmill and track, 10 times around is a mile.
