In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

So, who's up for a challenge? Starting today? :cool1:

-------
(I'm tempted to do a banana just to see if E is paying attention!)

 the banana of death!

I'm in for the challenge! Gosh. Goals. Can I just start with surviving the next few days and then re-evaluating on Friday? :confused3 I know. For Tues-Thurs my goal is going to be eating mindfully and responsibly. Friday I'll come up with more concrete goals.

Ronda- love the "Thanksgiving Phases"! Have a great time with your family :lovestruc

Jo - I've become quite fond of sparkpeople. When I'm tracking that is :rolleyes1

Nancy, you can do anything you want! : )

I tracked today! Woo hoo!!!!

Kelly. Thank you. It's hellish but I'm going to be okay. I'll talk about it offline. Xoxo.

This is from my phone so it's just a quick hi and night!!!!

Tracking saved me 500 calories today. Just don't want to write it down...

I have bought, I think, all of the food for the holiday. Chocolate chip waffles for my niece and nephew, peanuts for my dad. The next couple of days are filled with stuff. Annual doctor visit for me, an evening with my mentee, Lindi. We'll be finishing Cars. Next week we're seeing Tangled. A trip to the post office. Costco. Food pantry pickup and, oh, yeah, work.

Uh-oh. Dog making bad noises in the kitchen. Good night everybody!

Ronda

I'm in for a challenge. Lots of work drama going on, but I will survive whatever happens!

I hope everybody is doing well. I just had my midterm for my 5 week class tonight. Another one is almost down!

Insert dancing phallic symbol <> here.

Liz- Yay! I feel like I follow your life via facebook. I'm glad you're back even if it's just for food tracking.

I'm in for a challenge. Please someone make sure to check in with me on these, I really need some accountability right now.

I want to track five out seven days.
Drink more water.
Lose 8lbs by Christmas, 10 by New Years.

And have I mentioned I have stories about guys? Fun gossip type stories? I'll have to save them for tomorrow when I'm rested enough to share. But boy do I love getting cuddles for my birthday!

So, who's up for a challenge? Starting today? :cool1:

As for a quick reply...Lisa, please! I NEVER post and due to circumstances, I will be here but only posting food stuff. The rest I can't talk about online. And you know how I am about replying - hit or miss. So I'm taking you just talking about you you you if you all will take me just talking about my bleeping food! :rotfl2:

(I'm tempted to do a banana just to see if E is paying attention!)

Ronda - I'm not in love with the Kohl's stuff. I find the cheap Target branded Champion better. The Kohl's stuff doesn't wick enough for me. And the tops aren't supportive enough. Basically, I cruise the stuff and resist picking it up. virtually shopping, in the flesh.

SOOO Challenge! I propose one starting right now! Until Christmas! about 5 weeks! Write your goals, and we we will track. (Anyone want to track us? Someone who's not a total mess, like moi?) Report on Mondays! Weight optional!

My goals are:

Track 5 out of 7 days
Exercise some
Lose 10lbs

OF COURSE I am paying attention! :lmao: And NO dancing bananas! That is still the rule on this thread!

Liz. You have no idea what it means to have you posting here again.

I am trying...really trying...to get here more regularly. I just don't have a minute to breathe these days it seems. I am running around like crazy getting ready for Christmas (and before you roll your eyes at me, we leave for vacation on the 8th and get back the 18th, so I truly have to everything ready before we go). I *still* haven't made ADRs for our trip. Forget about packing or any other type of trip planning. And I am out straight since this is the busiest time of the semester. Final exams are in 2 weeks. I will have 48 hours to grade 300 papers and then leave for vacation. And we just had Kel's birthday and I am hosting Thanksgiving. So yeah, a lot going on.

Going to catch up now.

And CHALLENGE! HELL YES! You know I am in! Always! I can't commit to tracking it this time, though. Can anyone take that on for me for this one challenge? Pretty please?

Challenge goals: I will do from now to the cruise (11 days). I have already been going for 8 days, so that will at least give me a start.

Until vacation:

water 11/11
core 10/11
run 6/11
weights 5/11
booze 2/11
track 10/11 (I won't track on Thanksgiving, but I never go truly overboard anyway)

While on vacation (9 days):

core 5/9
water 7/9
run 4/9
weights 2/9
track 0/9
booze...6/9

I think this is realistic for me. Yes, the next 11 days will be A LOT. Normally, I wouldn't push myself quite that hard since it would be hard to maintain. But I just have to take some pounds off and firm up a bit before leaving. And I always work out while on vacation, so I don't think that part is unrealistic either.

Good morning! Just a quick post - at work! Did I mention that I still don't have laptop, so all my posts will be either for five seconds at work or five seconds on my phone? Yeppers, that's me. SOOOO useful! :lmao:

I tracked yesterday! Woo! I also weighed in again just to see what one day could do...and yeah, it does a lot! 3lbs! If I keep a 3lbs loss this week that will be a MAJOR victory. I DO eat on Thanksgiving - it's soo good!

E - major goals, but why not? go for it!

Meg - :goodvibes share all your stories!

Ronda - have a good day!

Nancy - can you take a picture of one of your pies? I know, that's asking a lot. But please?

Have a good day everyone! I'll be reading!!!

OMG! 3 pound loss? You know what that means, right? Goddess crown, totally!

Nah, that means that I ate a lot of ice cream and carbs, and drank a lot of beer. ;) It's one day, I shouldn't even BE on the scale after one day!

Just quickly popping in before heading out to do my major grocery shopping for the upcoming feast. I am loading an audiobook on my iPod so that I can just put my headphones on and shop without dealing with people! Ha! I'll do the same thing when I spend all day tomorrow in the kitchen. (I basically do all of my prep work on Wednesday so that I can actually enjoy the holiday...just have to get things in and out of the oven and most everything else will be done.)

Small crowd for us again this year. 12 people. What about everyone else? Who is hosting? Who gets to just show up with a pie? How many people?

Feeling good about being "on". I even tracked yesterday! I had been doing all of my other goals, but having the challenge made me track. And do water. That is one I always let slide unless there is a challenge going on.

Ronda--I follow your workout updates on FB. You are doing AMAZING! OMG, great times, great mileage!

Everyone else...check in!

Ronda, I agree with E! I love seeing your FB updates!

We are going to my bff JR this year. She's the one with the kids who are my godchildren. My godson is 17! A senior! Crazy! So all we are bringing is tables and chairs. So easy. My parents and his parents are coming, too. all of us, and JR's family. 18 of us at her place.

I have to work Friday, but I hope to see the new HP and get the stocking stuffers bought this weekend! I'm really limiting Christmas gifts this year. I am redoing a makeup table from JB (other BFF who has the preemie baby) for Emily as her big present. Stripping it and painting it. That, a secondhand jewelry box from my mom (same deal) and matching American Girl/Bitty Baby Pj's. I see no point in spending money when I can put some work into it...it's the consumption thing that's getting to me. Kwim? N is getting The Promise box set. I bought myself a puffy vest on sale and a Northface on sale, and will wrap those as Santa gifts.

BTW, anyone have any Northface? Do you find they run small? I mean, I'm f-a-t, but still. :rotfl: They seem to run small!

Great run this morning. Five miles, 32 degrees, two shirts, priceless. The last two miles were sub 11:00. It's the little things.

I tracked yesterday. It. Works.

I'm replacing my Einstein Bros bagel with bagel thins (calorie savings about 200). I think they'll make great sandwiches, too.

I have just a few things to pick up. Just a few. Really.

E - In anticipation of our vacation next summer we have been listening to an iTunesU European history lecture. UC Berkeley History 5. The TV version includes slides from the lecture. Tiny on the nano, but I get the gist of things. Very cool. Between that and some running podcasts I don't have to talk to anyone!

Settling back and waiting for gossip.

The consumption thing gets to me every year.

No Northface here. It's just not cold enough.

Nice to see you here! :goodvibes

I love bagel thins! They definitely make good sandwiches.

T-giving to me is showing up with stuffing and scalloped oysters to the in-laws. D pouts at me if I don't make my stuffing.

Friday D works 11AM - 11PM and I have choir rehearsal from 10AM-1PM and a concert at 8PM. I also have a concert at 3PM and 8PM on Saturday. We are doing the Holiday Pops with the NC Symphony.

This would normally be kind of exciting, but with the big white air cast I am mostly concerned with how I am going to fare. Evidently there is a lot of shlepping people around, not to mention all the time on my feet during the rehearsals and concerts. Oh well.

<RANT>
So I get a bill from a doctor. I'd been there in October and watched online as the insurance company paid the claim at the discounted rate. So I was surprised to get a bill from the doctor showing the original amount, discounted, submitted for insurance, paid by insurance and due from me. PAY THIS AMOUNT.

I called and said I didn't think my bill was right. The same receptionist who cannot be bothered to look up when I come into the office transferred me to Tim's voicemail. I left my name, account number, date of birth and phone number. I explained it appeared that they'd been paid and I had been billed incorrectly. Today Tim called back...

I'm Tim, returning a call from Ronda.
R: This is Ronda.
T: How can I help you?
R: You sent me a bill showing I owe the same amount as what insurance paid to you.
T: I don't see a balance due.
R: That may be, but you sent a bill.
T: I see that it was credited by the payment from United.
R: I don't have United.
T: Well, United through AARP.
R: That is not my insurance.
T: Okay, who is your insurance.
R: Cigna. As it shows on your statement.

At this point I'm losing confidence.

T: Well, I don't show a balance due and you don't owe anything at this time. You can disregard it.
R: I wanted to ignore it, but would do so at my peril. Because somewhere the bill machine thinks I owe you money. I will ignore it.

This was routine and easy care. If they cannot get the simple stuff right I cannot imagine the hassles of those who have complicated ongoing care.
</RANT>

I'm tracking and drinking. Grrrrr

Ronda

Ronda, I've seen drs offices bill patients for the difference between the discounted amount and the general amount. Of course, they can only do this if they are not in your network. If they are "on par" I believe it's illegal.

We are not par with any insurance, and everyone pays up front (acupuncture, so it's a bit different). Except if you are an accident case, we treat you and insurance pays us. Well, sometime you have a copay and your insurance sends you a fat check to cover that. And you, then should write us a check, because we have been working for free. But some people just take that money! At least you are following up!

Tracked today but it was much harder. Peppermint bark and fresh bread calling my name! How did everyone else do?

Liz, I'm just worried that he had my insurance wrong and couldn't see that he had billed me at all.

One day a week I eat something I cannot begin to track... that was tonight. I join my mentee (Lindi) for dinner in the cafeteria. Tonight was a hamburger helper style dish with shredded potatoes and lots of cheese, a pudding cup and salad with too much finely shredded cheddar. I just call it 1,000 and am done with it.

Other than that, tracked and exercised. Now it gets hard....

Ronda

Hey ladies. So I did well with my water consumption today but tracking was a mess. I was on track with tracking food and then I met my cousins at Chili's for dinner which is my least favorite place to go because NOTHING ever is even enjoyable enough to be worth the calories or the effort of trying to figure out how many calories it's all worth. I just did my best to make a smart choice.

Oh and it was 9 when I got home but I went for a run on the treadmill. So I'm giving myself a B- for the day.

E- Sounds like you have a lot going on between now and vacation!

Liz- HP is fantastic, hope you get to see it soon.

Ronda- I use the bagel thins for lunch, I love them!

Kat- Hope the ankle holds up with all the standing you're going to be doing.

Ok I'll share my boy stories... I'll put it in a separate post for those who just want to skip over it.

So Saturday my friend Nicole(who has the same birthday as me) and I had our birthday party. She dates one of my brothers friends and so of course my brother and all his friends were there. My bro's best friend Mike and I had a kind of innocent make out session once... years ago. But he's admitted to picking on me in an effort to not let people know how he feels about me because I'm his best friends sister. But we have this weird connection and at a recent wedding we were all at someone actually thought we were dating.

Fast forward to the end of Saturday night and he tells me he wants to cuddle with me. We go sit on the couch and he wraps his arms around me and we're just laying there talking. Eventually i come to my senses and remember he has a girlfriend. (Later come to find out they are off again. They've been on and off for a year.) So I go into the spare room(we were staying at Nicole's place.) Moments later I'm joined by another one of my brothers(Bobby) who has now kissed me twice in two weeks. He gets me water and takes care of me then crawls in bed and literally just holds me, he tells me how much he likes me and how sweet I am. He tells me he's glad that I'm not sick any more and that he's glad I'll be ok. He just holds me and talks to me till I fall asleep.

I get up the next morning and Mike tells me to get ready that he wants to take me home. So I went home, end of story. I feel guilty for cuddling with two guys in one night especially where they're my brothers friends. BUT I didn't do anything with them and while Mike and I have long had this weird attraction I'm also done waiting for him to stop playing games with me.

Did I mention we're all going out again on Friday night? Same group? I'm not sure when I became a girl with boy drama. Oh yeah and Mike might run my Thanksgiving Day 5k with me.

I just thought I'd let you all share in my craziness.
