In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

My very picky daughter asked me to make an omelet with - get this - mushrooms and ham. I snuck in some mushrooms while we were in Indy and I am guessing that she is still enjoying them!! Huge step!:worship::worship:

Awesome EE! Love it when the kids try something new.

In the spirit of trying something new - I cooked a spaghetti squash last night. Tossed it with fresh basil, tomatoes, onions and some ground turkey italian sausage. Stephen and I loved it  the kids thanked me and said "never make that again" :headache: ah well, at least they tasted it.

Happy Sunday All,
I think I am going to try a small run this morning.

How do you feel after yesterdays run?

Paula -big bike day yesterday. I'm curious as to how you feel today as well.

We're putting the rafters on the new barn this morning. So, pray for me people.

Nancy good luck today. Rafters, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't hurt yourself!:scared1:

Not a good run today, more walk than run 2 miles, hips & hams hurt.
I just wanted to try to push myself to see if I can start to up my milage.
I must be out of my mind to think I can do this, but I am not going to give up.

Just finished a spur of the moment 6k walk with some friends. Nothing about speed just good conversation. 6.1 in an hour and 15.

13.1 and DONE!

Kicked it Goddess Style and blazed in for a massive PR of 2:15. No water, no fuel, brand new shoes. Go figure. Sometimes it ISN'T about the science and the training. Just Running Karma, and today I had mine.

Details to follow.

Hi Jo!

Can I just say that I am loving your enthusiasm! It is infectious. You have to promise me one thing though. Please don't overdo it. You increase the chance of injuring yourself if you push it.

The milage will come in time. You just need to be patient. When I started my training in June, I never thought I could do what I am doing, but here I am. We add about five miles a week but that is for biking. My "Marathons for Mortals" training program had me upping my long runs by 1 mile per week - no more. Pace yourself - you are doing just fine and will rock the Princess!

Hi everyone!

Now that I am rested I can finally chime in about the new wheels!

I must apologize since I left my camera at work so I have no pics. I will get some next week I promise.

On Friday night, I spent about 3 hours at the bike shop getting fitted for it and then practicing clipping in and out while the bike was on the trainer. I finally got the hang of it and then we took it to the parking lot. All went well so I loaded it onto the car and was off.

I was up and out early on Saturday and was off to meet the group. I was battling a head cold so I was not feeling the greatest. I almost didn't go I felt so yucky, but off I went. Worst case I could call my family to come get me right? Everyone was oohing and ahing over the new wheels and then we were off on the ride. My coach even said to me that he wanted to see me fall given the new clips on the peddles. Gotta love the vote of confidence right?

All was going well for the first ten miles or so and then we got to the big hill named George Thompson. We had done this route a few weeks ago and I walked up that hill then and I had a feeling I would be walking up this hill again. I made it farther up it than I did on my old bike, but I knew I couldn't do it so I am attempting to get out of my clips and I feel myself toppling over. I hit the ground, flipped over and was lying face up in a ditch. Two words came out of my mouth as I was going down - Oh S***! According to my coach it was one of the most graceful falls he has seen in a while. I told him his wish was granted and then proceeded to walk up the hill. I came out of the whole thing with a bruised ego and two tiny (and I mean tiny) cuts on my legs. All in all - not too bad.

The rest of the ride went pretty well. The long climbs were much easier, but I still don't have the strength for the short steep ones like George Thompson. I picked up 2 - 3 mph of speed on the flats and even managed to get the shifting down with coaching from one of the coaches. The last ten miles of the ride however, totally sucked!

I was out of gas physically since I couldn't really breathe well due to the cold, my gloves had stretched after getting soaked during my last ride and were rubbing, my feet were starting to go numb, it was day 1 of TOM and my bum really hurt from the new saddle. In short, I was miserable! I can take care of the little things and the cold will pass, but the only thing that is going to help with the saddle is time spent in it to get used to it. Not exactly looking forward to that part.

My coaches were great and got me through those last ten miles. I basically drafted behind them for the rest of the ride to save some energy. When I wasn't drafting, one of the coaches was talking me through everything and reminding me why I was doing this. She kept talking about my cousin and I realized that while I was feeling pretty miserable at that point, I was still doing better than Joe. Soon enough, I was back at my car and happy to be done. I may have been cranky, but I rode all 50 miles!!!!

Nancy - I know you asked how I felt today. This cold has wiped me out, but I am not that sore from the ride. My shoulders are a bit tight from the new position and my bum is a bit tender, but all in all I am doing well.

I am heading to a skills ride on Thursday to work on hills. It is going to be work, but I am looking forward to it. I am tired of having to walk up hills. Goddesses don't walk up hills while biking right?

So that is it in a nutshell. One new bike, a fall, a headcold and a major mental battle, but I succeeded! Goddess style.

What was everyone else up to this weekend?

Nancy good luck today. Rafters, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't hurt yourself!:scared1:

Thanks Jo. I am fine - no injuries today :thumbsup2

I'm sure you were feeling the effects of Saturday's hard run. I second Paula's comment - LOVE the positive attitude.:goodvibes

WOOT! :woohoo:

Everyone. And I do literally mean everyone told me that I would fall once. And I did. Once it was over, I felt much less anxiety about it! I've come close a few times, but the clips definitely get easier to manage once you get a bit more familiar with them. You will learn to love them, I promise

awesome!!! :cool1:

Paula- all that was amazing. Incredible for such a stonker of a ride! :upsidedow

The hill work will come - just like with the 1/2 marathon training. It will happen. It just takes practice, and getting comfortable with knowing when to shift, pull out of the saddle, etc. George Thompson? Who does he think he is anyway. Stupid George Thompson. I think you need to rename him Jesse and O.W.N. him

Hi Kelly, EE, Ronda, Lisa, Meg...missing you all!

Nancy is SO right. It WILL come. For both Paula and Jo. And all of us.

Because Lord knows, I lose it every once in a while and have to go back to the basics.

Paula--you were TOTALLY in my head this morning. I had just read about your 50-miler on Saturday and I was like, "I only have to 13....Paula did FIFTY!" So thank you, once again, for getting me through. And I walked one of my hills, too! :rotfl2:

Coming off one of the worst night's sleeps ever. Up every 40 minutes or so. Darn cold. Time to go to work - wheeee...

Paula - very envious!

Just a quick pop in. Hope to be back atone lunch for a real post.

Paula, 50 Miles just amazing!! Totaly Amazing.
I loved what you said about your cousin, if its ok with you I am going to think of that next time I whine about my suck a$$ runs. I am going to think of Joe and all of the people that can't train for anything.

Paula I am just amazed by you!! :worship:

Oh, and I love what Nancy said, name the Hill Jesse!!!:lmao:

Today is rest day for me!!

Yay for a rest day Jo!

After a picture perfect weekend, heat and humidity are on the rise again. <bleh> The dog days of summer definitely wear me down :dog: My bike ride was short and difficult. But it's done, so I can check it off my list and move on!

Only 2 more days before I take Seth back to school. Crazy how fast the summer went.

<== does not want to work today. Why in the world am I sore from a casual stroll? My quads ache!

power walk at lunch 1 miles in 15:24 mins. Not that great. But its better than sitting on my butterpants at my desk.
