In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Today I start my 3rd week of training. I walked 3 miles a couple of days last week and decided that is my gaol for this week. I think 3 miles a day until my feet and my knee no longer feel any pain. The pain is minor and goes away as I walk but I am sure since I have been a couch potato for the last 10 years that it is going to take some time to build muscle. My body needs time to adjust.

Jo - Okay, I giggle every time you say "butterpants". I'm going to use that one soon.

E - I am so far out of the loop I didn't even know there was a half in your sights. Way to go.

Paula - it's important to get that first fall out of the way. In the vernacular, that was a turtle. Keep after that hill. I've started riding to work again. I love the granny ring on the big hill at the end. Archimedes rocks! I read a piece in Runner's World recently about the power of the word get. I get to run today. I get to bike today. I get to. So many don't.

I had a rockin' run Saturday. Eight miles. Maybe this was a runner's high? I came home turned up the music to shake the house. Sang along and danced around the living room. The entire day was like that - minus the shaking house.

Sunday I went to the Komen Kansas City 5K. Talk about the power of get. I wasn't running and it was likely a good thing. Very emotional to hear the dedications as the runners were starting. A couple along the lines of "running in memmory of Nana. She walked this route last year." So much loss and so many people working through pain. I had never been to a race as a spectator. Took a bunch of pictures of strangers. Watched the hard bodies finish early. Stayed and watched my people finish later ; )

Nancy - Does Seth get to an, uh, jerk, this year?

It's hot. I'll skip golf tomorrow. The company is great, but teeing off at 5:30? That's just not enjoyable. Even a little bit.

Ronda

Ronda - I adored what you said about the strength of the word 'get'! That is a powerful word and completely underated. Wow.

Nancy - it is Monday so you know what that means. Yup, it is JC night. Happy to report that I am down 1.4 pounds this week. Given all of the stress that is a miracle in and of itself.

Great workout w/ Jesse tonight to. Now my cold is kicking in so I am off to medicate and get some rest. Hopefully my voice will be back to full strength tomorrow and the guys will stop picking on me about it. Boys will be boys right?

Hope everyone is having a great night!

"get". such a powerful little word Ronda, thankyou.

And, no, Seth doesn't "get" to be the jerk this year! Well, maybe, in his own way. He's got a job with "supply company" which means he's responsible for issuing all sorts of gear. so. Friend? He can hook you up. Foe? you are outta luck (ha. Like Radar O'Reily on MASH)

Paula- awesome on the loss!

Jo - I too snicker at "butterpants". And any exercise is better than no exercise at all in my book.

Laurie - your walking plan sounds solid to me. Do you take advil or anything for the muscle soreness? I'm not a big fan of medications, but advil (or ibuprophen of whatever brand) is so good for reducing the inflamation. Food for thought anyway.

Kat - feeling any better yet?

Me? I'm just "meh". Eating healthy stuff, not in the correct amounts I'm sure, but at least it's not junk food. Trying to get more water in and de-tox from the daily cocktail habit that comes with summer livin' around here. My schedule is insane, so exercise is mediocre. But I'm doing something every day so I'm pretty much holding steady for now. Things could be better, but Lord knows they could be much, much worse. :upsidedow

Yep. I would do exactly the same.

Wow. :3dglasses I feel like I just entered Kelly's secret little closet. A new piece of Mother Country Kelly. So fascinating.

then may hit the Riverwalk tonight.

Ummm jealous.

WDW is coming so quickly, eh? Love that new contract.

it's like I'm in a completely different universe
]

SO BITING MY TONGUE!!!!! :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

The day ended with shots...
.

Ummm jealous part deux.

I am walking three miles a day this week. Yesterday a funny thing happened at the end of my walk.

After my first mile with my new shoes I noticed some muscles starting to strain. Not a good thing on the first mile. I read somewhere that muscles can constrict because they are in need of hydration. I stopped in at the house and grabbed a bottle of water. I consumed the entire bottle during lap two and tossed it in the yard as I went by on my way to completing mile three.

When I got almost to my house on the final lap the lady across from my house a couple of doors down came flying out her front door and started yelling at me to pick up that bottle I threw in the yard across the way. I looked at her stunned for a moment and then she said, " I saw you throw that bottle in the yard and I thought how rude of you. Please take it with you." With a little laugh I explained that it was my lawn. She of course was very apoligetic not realizing who I was and was just looking out for me. I thought it was funny and am grateful to know that my neighbors look out for me. You just never know who is looking out for you when you are not home. :rotfl:

So funny Laurie. :surfweb:

I've got Patti LaBelle in my head today.[/B][/COLOR]
I'm feeling good from my head to my shoes. Know where I'm goin' and I know what to do. I've tidied up my point of view, I've got a new attitude :dance3:

Boy your singing knows no genre, eh? popcorn::

Hello! My name is Push Over. <The crowd says Hi, Push Over!>

!

Yep Mother Amiee. PUSHOVER. Laughing. I can't believe it's almost here. Geez.

I have my new bike!!!!
.

:dance3: :woohoo: :thumbsup2 :cheer2:

Oh, I got a sitter, I got a sitter!!!! Run Club 4 mile run for me today YAY :yay:
(I'm a little nervous, don't tell anyone)

Jo. My goodness. You really must sit for a minute and really see and feel how far you've come with it all in such a short amount of time.

(Okay, I won't tell anyone - in Canada! :rotfl2:)

13.1 and DONE!

Kicked it Goddess Style and blazed in for a massive PR of 2:15. No water, no fuel, brand new shoes. Go figure. Sometimes it ISN'T about the science and the training. Just Running Karma, and today I had mine.

Details to follow but first I must irritate the masses by taking my time to type them. .

Listen tease - read your own bold. :lovestruc

I picked up 2 - 3 mph of speed on the flats

Wow Paula. Lovely and inspiring to read. Can't wait to see the pictures - does it have a name?

I think I posted this before but we had this friend in our building who was always in great shape and then Jean saw him one day and almost fainted. HE was SO lean. No changes except one - he started to ride to work.

The hill work will come - just like with the 1/2 marathon training. It will happen. It just takes practice, and getting comfortable with knowing when to shift, pull out of the saddle, etc. George Thompson? Who does he think he is anyway. Stupid George Thompson. I think you need to rename him Jesse and O.W.N. him

I loved this! The smarts :goodvibes and the humour. :lmao:

Me? I'm just "meh".

Hope this gets better for you. :surfweb:

Me - hmmm - I have such a great Jerry Springer at the beach story but I don't know if I can type it tonight. It was WILD.

I have my two last scheduled appointments this week. Had a weird one today. Was supposed to be the cross match but last time I was with T and this time all I had was a whole bunch of blood all by my little lonesome and last time this was done very early not second to last. :confused3

The last one is on Friday the 13th!!!!:rotfl2: God seven friggin' months in and I finish on a Friday the 13th. I'm so DONE in my head. Can you imagine I'll start to go crazy and say "no one touches me! no one" and they'll have to lock me up. I'm SO DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE.

But probably not b/c Friday is a doctor who could call for more sumtin' sumtin'. Probably not done.

I'm starting to comedy routines of the annoying hospital team. Their voices. Their stupidity. Their sh!tty communication. It's very funny in my head. Jean not so much. She threatened to PUT ME to bed last week. :rotfl2:

Oh God I'll have to do the beach. I so have to!

Okay. Beach. Well water - our town is flat rock - one town over is beach.

People:

Manboy
Jessica
Blonde girl

I only know one person's name is this very sad drama. Because manboy said "Jessica!!!!" in so many variations.

So gorgeous day. We're in the water for hours jumping waves. Georgian Bay (Lake Huron) seems like an ocean sometimes - I know unnecessary added info.

Okay, okay.....

So Jean's out and I'm still in the water and I happened to notice manboy and blonde girl come in the water. The only reason I did was because Blonde girl was young small/skinny but not in shape - kind of like young woman/old woman thing -I know judgemental - I'm aware.

So they're frolicking in the water and Jean and I are relaxing and here comes this women (Jessica) pushing a baby stroller toward the water like a MAD WOMAN.

She puts the brakes on the stroller - faces the poor child away from the drama that is about to ensue. Poor baby I say b/c straight into the hot hot sun.

And she starts to throw manboy's belongings - shoes, clothes - everything into the lake. Arms are flinging. EVERYTHING.

Manboy catches her with his eye but can't get in fast enough - the rocks can get very slippery. And she continues.

She didn't quite get everything in and is waving what I learned later to be his new I phone.

She's screaming cheater. He's yelling "Jessica what are you talking about? We are not together".

He asks her repeatedly to give him the phone.

She is in one of those blind rages - that I know nothing about :rolleyes1 - so she is so focused on getting the blonde girl.

She starts walking out in the water in her black dress. You can walk very far out. Blonde girl is not moving in but shares, "Go and take him with you!!!!" :rotfl2:

Manboy does nothing to help his "date". At this point I was impressed with him b/c I think that is because his child is being left alone.

Jessica I guess gives up swimming in a dress and comes in and they have a whole verbal fight.

You're a cheater.

What are you talking about? We're not together.

What about last night?

JESSICA, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

You are the father of my three kids.

Manboy says two and Jessica says Nada.

Manboy stayed very calm. I don't think I could have. He threatened to phone the police. But tried to reason with her as well.

Jean goes to check on baby when they are out near the water again. Another beach goer tells Jean not to touch the baby. :confused3 Jean of course wasn't going to - just making sure he's okay. (So sorry for that child).

Manboy gets his phone and phones the police. Jessica scrams. VERY QUICKLY.

So does manboy go riight out and see if his "date" is okay? NO. Phones his friends that must have been two seconds away and lights a cig and chats it up with them when they suddenly appeared.

So he goes swimming. I mean really might as well swim while waiting for the cops? :rotfl2: It IS a gorgeous hot day. What of it? :rotfl:

So FOUR cruisers come. FOUR. :rolleyes1:lmao:

Those are some bored cops. Girl throwing clothes in lake. SWAT! Okay, just kidding. I know you never know but must have been one quiet day. I guess this isn't Toronto.

And they stay for about a half an hour. Blonde girl finally comes out and tell manboy she's pissed.

So cops take in the sun and take off and SECONDS later - mere seconds - a black car pulls up - doors open and out pops......

Yes, of course it's Jessica. :rotfl2: I guess she went to get backup on wheels. Because her friend shouts, "this is what happens when you cheat on your fiance!!!!"

Again, manboy says, "What are YOU talking about?" Are you getting that manboy thinks he is single and is very confused. :3dglasses

Jessica goes straight for blonde girl who is in ankle deep water. Does manboy try to protect her?

Nope. :rotfl2:

It was like being back at my university pub on a troubled night. Hands in hair. The whole girlfight.

I've had enough at this point. The place is crowded. No one is doing a thing. I get up to run to the car to get Jean's phone. But this lady says, "do you have a cellphone?". I'm going.

No I have one. :confused3 So why ask me.

She gives me her HUGE dog.

Now I'm babysitting a dog. I LOVE dogs.

And goes off and phones the police. Walks away. I guess she was scared that Jessica would turn on her. :confused3

No, Jessica and blonde girl are not finished. Jessica gets a huge right in and that poor girl is now bleeding.

Jessica hears the police word and runs again.

Dog wants his mommy.

And the cops are told her car type and direction.

And all is now calm on the rock beach. :woohoo:

Except it took all my might not to walk up to manboy's blonde girl and say, "when someone shows you who they are, believe them.". She was bleeding and he showed nada.

As for Jessica. I feel so sorry for their children but I understand/meaning have compassion that pain can make some of us do crazy crazy things. She was just losing it.

Manboy kept saying they were apart for months but when she said, "last night?" I told Jean I bet he kissed her or sumtin'. Because if it was more Jessica would have said it.

Who knew a town could be so interesting and drama filled? I want to say those kids don't have a chance - hopefully just a very bad start. Crossing my fingers.

Boy your singing knows no genre, eh? popcorn::

nope. I'm definitely a cross-genre kinda person. Very much eclectic. But you *did* want to sing it, didn't you

Jo. My goodness. You really must sit for a minute and really see and feel how far you've come with it all in such a short amount of time.

WORD!

Listen tease - read your own bold. :lovestruc

I know, right? Where's my details? :confused3

I have my two last scheduled appointments this week.

finally! it's been such a long process. I'm glad to hear that this part will be over soon.

OMG on the Beach Drama. yikes!

My alarm went off this morning and I rolled over to hit the button - and *pop* something went wonky. I think I pulled a muscle in my back. it hurts so badly  I can barely move. which of course is just super fabulous because, as usual, I have *nothing* of importance that needs to get done

Hi everybody! Haven't had a moment to read - researching a huge employee issue. :( just wanted to say hi!

Jo - Paula -. Maybe this was a runner's high? I came home turned up the music to shake the house. Sang along and danced around the living room. The entire day was like that - minus the shaking house.

Ronda

Love this Ronda, And love what you said about the power of "get"!

Lisa, OMG I almost spit my tea out at my computer reading your beach story.
Poor kids, hope it works out for them some how, maybe a grandma or something.

Nancy, please please please say it is not so. Are you OK? Did you call the Doc? I hope its nothing.

At work dreaming about an ice cold coke. Its been 48 hours no coke.
EE, how are you doing on the Starbucks?

Lisa - they should have charged admission. Great story. It has a Levi/Bristol feel to it. I feel for kids being raised by those who aren't ready to do it. +1 on when someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Nancy - fingers crossed that it's just a kink.

Ronda

OMG Ronda--I spewed my tea at the Levi/Bristol comment! HILARIOUS! And no, you haven't been out of the loop--I have. The Half on Sunday, well...that was a very last minute thing. As in, I was searched out on Saturday evening (found at the bar at the pool club, naturally...:rolleyes1) and asked to run the next morning. Utter craziness.

But YES (Lisa and Nancy!) details will come...eventually! I just gave you a teaser above! :rotfl2:

Laurie--I am so sorry that I missed your intro to this group. WELCOME! I normally monopolize this place...they can't shut me up...but this summer has been super busy and I just haven't DISed at all. In any case, nice to meet you. I am going back and reading through what I missed, so I'll get caught up soon enough. :goodvibes

NANCY! Your back! How is it now that you have been up and moving for a bit? Jeff is in the same boat. Last week something pulled and he has been miserable and barely able to walk since. He had his HUGE 10k (biggest event of the season for his team) on Saturday and he was a DNS. He is still so disappointed about it.

Oh no Nancy! I'm sending biofreeze thoughts your way.

The employee issue that instinct told me was going on really is. I'm super easy to work for until lies are told. Not happy at all with this person.

I swear I need to go back to read, so I'm caught up.

At work dreaming about an ice cold coke. Its been 48 hours no coke.

Excellent Jo! And I've been, um, 36 hours? without a cocktail? :scared: Such a bad habit that I develop in the summer months.

Lisa - they should have charged admission. Great story. It has a Levi/Bristol feel to it.

:rotfl2: Oh, it so does, doesn't it!

Nancy - fingers crossed that it's just a kink.

I think it is a kink Ronda. Annoying, stabbing and definitely restricting my movement. I took some advil, slathered on some bio-freeze and am hoping that by tomorrow all will be right again. I really hope so, because I have to drive 7 ish hours to bring Seth back to school.

Laurie--I am so sorry that I missed your intro to this group. WELCOME! I normally monopolize this place...they can't shut me up...but this summer has been super busy and I just haven't DISed at all.

she speaks the truth Laurie :rotfl2: :lovestruc And yes, E - we totally miss you.

Poor Jeff! That must have killed him to miss a race like that. I hope he's better now.

Costco run for me. yee haw.

Erika, sorry to hear about Jeff's back.

EE, I can't stand a Lies!!!

I just deleted a large file full of stuff that I did not mean to delete. So I had to call IT, (they guy I reported to HR) well SHOCKER, he can not retrieve it. I don't belive him. I had some stuff on my home computer that DH has sent back to me (sometimes I got to love my hubby)!!

Enjoying a yummy salad from the bank's lunch room. We are spoiled by a very low cost cafe. Huge salad for $3 in a big take away container. On top of this, they put the good stuff on the bar (dark lettuces, spinach, zucchini slivers, black beans). Can't beat it in this town.

Sounds Yummy, I had a Weight Watcher chicken thing.
with a side a microwave veggies and I stole a juice box from my girls :lmao:

Lisa, WOW what a story!!

EE, we don't even have vending machines.

I am totally in the weeds, on everything, including exercise/eating.
