In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Hey Nancy, I went through the whole 14 miles (a little over 3.5 hours) with no bathroom stop!

Well. I *could* do that too. *If* I was willing to pee my pants  :rotfl2:

As to the socks, I couldn't wear those due to the lack of cushioning. I need cushioned socks.

I find with the insoles that I have with my shoes that I don't need the cushioning. Of course, as with so many things in life, the trick is finding what works for YOU!

Jo - yes on the socks. That's what I was talking about. Love them. As for the belt? I didn't read the customer reviews, but it appears to have good ratings.

EE- first day back at work after vaca. Bummer.

Erika - when do you hit the road? :confused3

Paula - JC tonight?

Hello goddesses!

Have to ask - is it Friday yet? Oy what a day at work. I am either getting used to the stress or I have officially lost it because all I can do is laugh at this point. Gotta love it right?

Nancy - JC? Ummmm... Let's see, I hadn't been in two weeks. I ate restaurant food for three says straight and I still haven't mastered post ride fueling. Put that all together and you get a weight gain if epic proportions! I am up six freaking pounds! All I can do is shake my head and then hang it in shame. I am going to need some help to stay accountable food wise this week. Nancy, I am giving you permission to use your whistle and check in on me (ok - begging you to check in on me us more like it)!

As for the ride, we start out as a group and quickly break into sub groups. The crazy 20mph folks dart out front followed by the 15mphs and then us lowly 10 - 12 mph folks bring up the rear. We stop at major turns to make sure we don't lose anyone but those stops are only for a minute or two. There is a break, usually at a Stewart's shop (a local convenient store) where you can refill your water bottles, grab a snack and use the bathroom. These stops are usually at the 15 - 20 mile mark. Saturday's ride took us a little over three hours. Oh and I have no idea how I am going to basically triple this ride by October. The coach's keep telling me not to worry, but I'm worried! I was beyond exhausted after Saturday's ride so what am I going to feel line after 100?

Sounds lime everyone had a fun weekend. Yeah! I am off to get some chores done and then crash.

Paula,. My weighin today was almost as  as yours. I am ignoring it and moving on.

How many people are in your training group? Do you increase the mileage each week? Is it always the same starting place?

We vary our route every week, and have a base mileage of 10 miles and then people who need to do more tack it on the end. There are 460 people in the group, and we are broken into 7, 8, 9, 9:30, 10, 10:30, 11, 11:30, 12, 13, 14/15 min miles. The largest groups are 11, 11:30, 12... I think 11 has 80 people and we have about 40.

I think we freak out casual morning walkers quite a bit.

Kat - thanks...:goodvibes

The route changes week to week so we can get in different terrain. The mileage is upped every week by about 5 miles. All in all there are about twenty of us total. The group that I am with is about six women. We have fun and plod along.

I may not be fast but I get there.

I'm on it! :thumbsup2

Exhilarated. Proud. Overwhelmed. Just like when you crossed the finish line at the Princess!:flower3:

I may not be fast but I get there.

:thumbsup2 Slow and steady wins the race!

And on the whole "biking" theme - time for me to hit the pavement :goodvibes

Good Morning All

Kat, and Paula, I remember being told on this thread not to worry about the workout and the weight at the same time. Doing so will drive you crazy.

You both are doing some major mileage, and you should hold your head VERY HIGH for that.

Kat, Do you think you may gain due to lack of calories? I know that at some point if you don't eat enough your body will start to hold on to everything in a bad way. With the mileage you are doing maybe you should add some more calories a few days a week.

As for me... Well, I SUCK SUCK SUCK at eating right now, but F-it! It is what it is. I am focused on training for the 15K.

Yep, Its just Tuesday.... UGGGGGGGG:sad2:

Paula - when I was out for my ride I was thinking about you. A lot. Am I correct in thinking that the bike you are currently riding is a hybrid? If so, I think you'll find that your new bike (once you finally get it!) will give you a smoother and somewhat *easier* ride.

WORD!

And you are going to ROCK it sista!:thumbsup2

While I'm not training for anything in particular (life maybe?), healthy choices without obsessing is where I'm at right now. I can only focus on so many things at once, so, yeah. That's it for me :goodvibes

Nancy, not to be forgotten, you have put us some mileage too on that bike of yours. And you have not broken anything in a few days, so that good.:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao:

I do fine losing weight when I actually stick to 1200! It's now complete honesty time, so hang on (and skip if you desire, this got long!).

This week's gain is 100% because of too many calories. Beer (in large quantities and NOT light), and ribs, and chips and guac, and chips and dip, and Panera bagel sandwiches, and McDonalds, and Taco Bell were all consumed during last weekend, hence the gain.

I let my Saturday's splurge day turn into a weekend binge, and that will cause gain every time. Not to mention the water weight from all the salt I consumed, and that it's TOM which usually puts me up a lb or two.

I don't believe in starvation mode. I do think your metabolism can slow some if you eat half or less of your base caloric need (so under 500-700 cals for an average-sized woman who is 50 lbs or less overweight), but you are creating such a caloric deficit at that point that you will lose weight anyhow. They have done studies that say that even then, you don't drop significantly, and that it rebounds pretty much immediately.

However, I don't believe that you can meet nutrition needs with the calories set that low nor would I ever recommend it.

You could make the argument that I deprive myself too much and then binge, and you might be have some validity.

My whole goal in this endeavor is to get healthier, get in better shape/continue to train, but also to be significantly thinner than I started 2010. For me that requires major discipline and tracking everything, and not allowing major exercise to give me license to eat more. This isn't for everyone (Hi Lisa!!) but it has worked for me in the past and is working for me now.

One bad weekend is just that, a bad weekend. I will have another in two weeks for race weekend, because living it up occasionally is worth some slower progress, sometimes.

My maintenance mode plan is to live life pretty much like this... watching what I eat during the week, and allowing for some splurging now and again. A healthy lifestyle is much like what socks or gear to wear during training, very individual, and we all have to find what works (and doesn't work) for us.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming!

Kat, I did not know that you were letting yourself splurge on the weekends.
I did not mean to upset you. I hope I did not.

Jo, you absolutely didn't upset me!! I just wanted to clarify what I was doing and make sure I wasn't giving the wrong impression. Sorry for the book.

I let myself splurge about every other Sat night. I usually just contain it to Sat but this weekend it spilled over and became healthy living sabotage!

Kat, OMG, I wish I could just keep my splurge to one day, I think I have been in a whole month eating frenzy. Not eating alot of food but not good food. We have had a pool party or something every weekend, and they have dips there, and pasta salads and such, How I can resist :rolleyes1:confused3

One of these days I wish to evoke your strength and be able to only eat bad one day a week.

Indy Zoo Part 2

I left off at the happy walrus :rotfl2: so that means it's time for some forest critters.

On the way into the forest section, they had a spray thingy going. Did I mention it was sauna hot? This helped a bunch! I like the lamp post too.

I hope this guy shows up ok. He was adorable (Red Panda).

This guy was awesome. We stood under 20 feet away from him for several minutes. He just sat there and watched us while he was relaxing in his pond.
DSCN0037.jpg

Some rowdy kids came up and he didn't really like it, so he came up to the fence (5 feet away from us). He was so beautiful and his muscles rippled under his fur.

This little guy scared me to death. As we were leaving the tiger, something bolted in front of me.
DSCN0039-1.jpg

He scampered up the rock and chattered up a storm. It's not a very good pic, but there is a chipmunk under those leaves.

I loved this waterfall.

It was on the left just before this:

Well, that's all for now. It's dinner time and I am famished! Back with more later!

Jo, I am sure not the pillar of strength. First of all, I had to get to this weight somehow, right? Added to that, I lost most of it (almost 60 lbs) and then gained it all back the next year.

I am just muddling my way through, too. :goodvibes

What a frakkin day. Seriously. Does every week have to suck?? Can I have a do-over?

How about a fast forward instead of a rewind?

Thanks Jo!

Tomorrow is my day to have some moles removed. Not looking forward to it and kind of freaking out. One is going to have to have innie and outie stitches, 2 will have normal stitches, and one will be froze. I'm going to be on my phone the entire time to keep my mind off of it.

I'll take fast forward!

EE, good luck with the mole removal.
