In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate, VOL 7! Princesses? Nope, just us Goddesses!

Hello all... I've never posted on this thread before but I've set a new goal for myself to become a runner. Actually it started this week after learning with a friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer. Some other friends and I decided, in a show of support, we would do the princess 1/2 marathon in March. Now I am not a runner. Never have been, never thought I would be. But I'm totally motivated. Time to put that gym membership to use!

I've been given loads of information from some runner friends and I've come up with a training plan that I hope works with my busy life. Oh and about me, I'm a working mom of 2 (DD is 5 and in Kindergarten, DS is almost 8 and in 2nd grade). I also have a great husband who lucky for me Loves Disney as much as I do!! I live in New England so starting to run just as winter sets in is not the best idea, but a lot of my running will be done in the gym. Though I will be trying to get out on the road at least once a week.

I'm hoping also along the way to not only create a love of running, but lose weight along the way. I've always been the "cubby" girl and never completely happy with my body... so the time for change is now!

I look forward to sharing this journey with you and getting to learn more about yours!!

Gracias. Did you have class last night?

Nope. :goodvibes We are on Fall Break, which just means a 4-day week-end. Today I am off from the University as well. Of course, the rest of my life is full speed ahead, so it doesn't change much.

Morning everyone!

Lisa! Bout time. Need updates, por favor. (I'm channeling the Cutie this morning.)

Donna - welcome. First let me say I'm sorry for your friends cancer diagnosis. Thats a big blow. I applaud your take action attitude. There are quite a few runners and a few becoming runners here. Thanks for telling us about yourself. We are a tight knit bunch and know each other well. The only way to thrive is to jump right in.

Welcome! It's good to meet you :goodvibes I'm still fairly new here myself, but I can tell you it's a fabulous place to be to share, seek support or advice, or for just a good swift kick when you need it, even if you don't outright ask for it. Overall, a wonderful place to be.

Happy Birthday Cathie!!!!!

Awwwww thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morning everyone.

Today I am my normal, cheery, focused self and it's about dang time too. Sorry about that mopey girl who came around for a bit. I do my best to keep her quiet but she escapes now and then :lmao:

Feeling pretty good about myself this morning. Yesterday I WAS NOT happy that I'd gained half a pound, even though it's a small amount, lots of small amounts add up to a big amount. So, after indulging in a lunch that I should not have to comfort myself, and feeling crappy about it afterwards (Remember what Paula told you that day, Kat? about food not being your best friend and that it will only leave you in the same size jeans? I should have wrote that on a sticky and put it up on my desk. Paula-you're so stinkin smart.), I went home, and took a walk, something I never do at home. Then I pulled out my poor old dusty Wii Fit for some extreme hula hooping haha. Hips are sore sore sore this morning. Then I woke up bright and early this morning and made myself a salad full of lots of vegetables, and brought fruits for snacks. I even left my cash in the car today to help keep me away from the evil, evil vending machine.

SO, even though I hit a stumbling block, I've been quick to correct myself and correct the situation. Very very happy about that.

Now I just have to remember that frame of mind when we do the costume party for my birthday this weekend. It's going to be an adult party so there will be plenty of liquor there, I'm sure. However, it's BYOB and I just got a case of beer for everyone else (I can't stand beer) so that should help curb my drinking. I think I'll get a 6 pack of Smirnoff's and call it good :) I'm really just excited to have a party and get to see everyone. I got the cutest costume, and was so excited because this was really one of the first years in a LONG time that I could fit into a costume off the rack. It's a plus size, but, hey, it's a start :) I'm going to be the queen of hearts. It's really cute.

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!!!

Hi Donna and welcome! I never ran before joining this thread either and now I am a fiend. :rotfl2: I am only about an hour from Manchester, so if you ever want a running partner, let me know and we can schedule a long run together. I am over there at least twice a month for other stuff any way.

Do you have a food plan as well, or are you just focusing on running first? And what training plan are you using? Marathoning for Mortals is always a great plan for beginners. Have you started yet? What is your pace? What is your furthest distance to date? Are you using anything like Couch to 5k? Or are you using the Galloway run/walk method? See, told you I'm a fiend! :rotfl2:

There are....what? 7 or 8 of us from this thread running the Princess, so WOO HOO, come and join us!

Cathie--Happy Birthday!

Welcome Donna. I am one of the new runners. Never suspected I had it in me! I started in January using the Couch to 5K program. It's a series of podcasts that get you running using an interval program. After nine weeks you're running 30 minutes straight.

I continued to run over the summer and started the Marathoning for Mortals half marathon training plan last week. I'm doing the WDW half in January.

My advice is to start S-L-O-W. Overuse injuries are common. I started from a moderate fitness level (nightly, brisk dog walks 30-45 minutes). I've had NO PAIN. Some stiffness and soreness, but nothing beyond that. Even if it feels like you can do more, go farther, go faster. Don't. Get a plan. Stick to it.

Getting outside for one run a week sounds is a great idea. The TM is great, but there's nothing like covering ground outside. I thought I would stick to the TM, but have only used it during torrential rains.

Check out the October Walker/Runner thread, too. Great advice and encouragement there as well.

Ronda

Kat, is this good or just tolarable?

It's actually very, very good. A wee bit spicy. It would be better with a small dollop of sour cream and some chopped cilantro, and maybe some jalapenos if you like even more kick.

Hey E, way to answer Lyz's question to Nancy about details!! Glad to hear Cam is doing well though.

Donna, WELCOME!! We are all doing the princess half in March as well. E and Nancy are runners, and the rest of us are going to pretend we are.

This week is looooonng, and it is only Tuesday.

Speaking of hula hooping, I tried very hard to do this recently. I SO CAN'T!!! I don't understand. I could as a girl and now I have a womanly figure so there is even an indentation for the hoop!!!

Hey E, way to answer Lyz's question to Nancy about details!! Glad to hear Cam is doing well though.

:goodvibes I did mean Nancy - but I was glad to read EriKa's details too. What can I say, I like chocolate and I like details.

:rotfl: Love it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHIE! I hope you have a wonderful day! :cool1:

But the thing about Cam is that she plays with 100% heart. She puts everything she has into it and leaves nothing behind. She really isn't uber competitive, but she gives as good as she gets.

There was this one girl who I swear must have had some sort of glandular disorder. OMG, 10 years old and 5'6"! And of course Cammie had to play opposite her. But she showed NO fear. This girl was all over her and Cam just elbowed her right back. It was pretty comical. And since the girl was so tall, she was all gangly at this age and not super coordinated with those long legs, so Cam beat her to the ball each time. She looked like this tiny little bird just fluttering all around this beast. :rotfl2::lmao:

She sounds feisty just like her Mama!

Good Morning!!!! Have a wonderful day!

Be back later.

LisaV!! Ive missed your posts!

Hey team...

Donna - welcome to this bunch. We are a crazy group, but you won't find a better support group anywhere. I, too am sorry for your friend's diagnosis. Sending hugs. Oh and I am with Kat as a pretend runner. I plan on walking the princess half despite what anyone here tells you.

Lyz - I can't hula hoop either. Its the hips. Can't salsa dance either. Oh bother...

Cathie - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Celebrate girl - you earned it!

Work is kicking my butt today so not much time to chat. Thinking of you all!

E - so jealous on the three more sleeps til WDW... looking at flights for the princess half is just not the same because it is like 145 sleeps away... See - not quite the same. :rotfl2:

Happy Birthday Cathie!

Welcome Donna! I wasn't a runner either, but I didn't want to miss out on the princess because I have grown close to the thread team. I just started wogging. So sorry about your friend. I'm Amiee or EE.

Lyz - my lack of coordination prevents me from participating in the Hula.

E - Jealous over the 3 sleeps. I hope you have a great time and I have just enough time to FedEx that halo.

Paula - I wouldn't sweat the gain. I know you will get back to negative in no time.

Kat - any update on the work situation?

Kelly - how is your back?

Lisa - I still owe you pictures

Nancy - it's the day after Columbus Day. Are things running better?

If I missed anybody, I am sorry!

On to me, my group gets to dress me as a clown this Thursday. Yes, I will have pictures and details.
