In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate, VOL 7! Princesses? Nope, just us Goddesses!

Erika - mittens - did you see my mittens on the first set -the page before (166?). Look at them.

Thanks everyone. I am so pleased with them. Which is huge for me to say. Everyone has to go one day at Christmas. So magical. Camera. :lmao: You would think I have the number in my brain but nope. :rotfl: I'll look and post. Maybe Nancy knows. :lmao: I'm much too lazy right now. :surfweb:

I have to catch up.

Jo, glad you got it worked out. No kids here so we don't have that kind of dilemna...

Good luck with the ice storm. It is creeping its way east, which is why I am leaving to drive to Pittsburgh tomorrow and not Fri AM like I had planned. I hate travelling on the day-before holidays, not to mention driving alone for 7.5 hours on my birthday, but it sure beats being stranded in VA on Christmas!!

Lisa, great pics!!

I had to pull out the gloves this morning!!!

I have been MIA on this thread for a while. Training for the half marathon peaked last week with 10 miles. I've followed the plan to a tee and haven't missed a run. Nothing hurts and I am SO EXCITED to be getting back to WDW. I am going to do this and do it well. I need to find some 12:30 runners at the Pop meet. 95% of my training has been solo runs. The few times I've run with others it's been great. I expect the Disney crowd support will be phenomenal.

My holiday shopping is done, but for two cards and a crate of Clementines. I made a pair of pants for DGFs mother. They are dachshund people and I made them from this fabric. Dog fabric. So cute.

We erected a Festivus pole at work yesterday and spent a portion of our team meeting airing grievances. A great way to start the holiday.

We are loading up and headed for St Louis for two nights and family Christmas fun.

If I don't get back here in time, Merry Christmas to all Goddesses and the ones they hold dear. It's been a great year of growth and I'm glad I kept seeing this thread on top.

Ronda

cantwaitvaca09 - they're gonna. The important thing is where and how it hurts. Muscle pain is going to happen as the muscles awake and begin to build themselves up. Soreness is okay in moderation. Joint pain is something to listen to and figure out fast. I still feel the effects of a run for half a day or so. I've been building mileage and am not bothered by it.

Shin splints should not be messed with either. A searing, unmistakable pain on the front of your lower leg means slow down.

Take time to warm up before every session (5-10 minute walk) and cool down after every one, too. Another 5-10 minute walk. Last thing in your workout is stretching. Stretche muscles warm, not cold. Hamstrings, calves and quads are the biggies.

Don't run every day. Skip a day in between. Don't do more than the plan calls for.

Thanks Rhonda, You have safe travels today!

For my pain, my Quads are sore, I have felt that before when I was younger and in shape. I do have a problem with my right knee. It's alway tight/sore after any type of work out. Weather I walk, Run, or do a DVD.
My DH says its somthing I have to live with, is that true?

Ronda! So glad you hit your ten-miler! I had been waiting to hear from you...and then you didn't post, and didn't post, and didn't post! WOO HOO! You are READY! How exciting!

Have a fabulous holiday with Sue and both fams!

Jo--NO, it is NOT something you just have to live with. You do, however, have to stretch. What are you doing pre and post-run? And more importantly, what are you wearing for SHOES? Do you overpronate? Supinate? We can help with leg pain around here, that's for sure. Between me and Nancy and Amy, we've experienced most running injuries. But we need the details and then we can help you out.

Quad pain--that's fine. That is just muscle soreness from using them in a new way and all of that. No worries there. It'll go away within a few workouts.

Thank you Erika,
For my shoes I am using New Blance Running Shoe, never worn outside. Pre Run I get out of bed get dressed still 1/2 asleep and walk at a 3.3-3.5speed for 5 mins, then I run 60sec at 4.0-4.2speed, walk 90sec about 3.5-3.7 speed, after the 25mins, I walk back at the 3.2-3.3 for about 3 mins, then I take my shoes of and strech for about 3 to 5 mins then in the shower and get ready for work. All day my knee is tight and sore. But again, I have felt that for the past few months.

Alittle back story. So we all already know I am fat... So in Feb, I booked a trip to Disney for my DH, Me and My girls. So once I booked the trip I started to look stuff up on the web, found the moms panel, the more I looked up the more I planned and the more I got really really excited. So then I thought, I need to loose a few lb's before we go so I can stay up all day and do all that I had planned with my kids. So all summer I would walk my subdivison, that about 1.5mils. I would also to a DVD work out by Jillian Micheals. That was jumping jacks, run in place, jump rope in place, push ups, squats, ect. When I was done doing the DVD, my knee who hurt, I could still walk, but it made me think I don't want to do that DVD anymore. So it was end of Sept. Time for disney, I was down 10lbs, well went to disney can came back and I did not do the DVD any more, DH got me an elictical about 4 weeks ago. I like it but I still like to run..

Sorry for the long story, but I felt like I needed to explain when my knees started. Don't forget I am about 40-50lbs over weight too.

Fast and flat 5 miler done. Again, effortless. I am in such a great running groove right now. It's about freaking time, eh?

Ok, so I see two or three issues here.

Let's start with (say it with me everyone...) SHOES. New Balance makes a great shoe, for sure, but only for specific people. NB is known for those needing moderate to severe support and/or those who wear special inserts or orthodics. NB has a REALLY wide toe box so if you have too much room up there, you'll be sliding around a bit and are sure to torque something.

Did you get professionally fitted for your shoes? At a specialty running store? If not, that is your first step. Don't go to a chain like Olympia or Dick's or Sports Authority or whatever you have out your way. None of those places know dick about shoes. Look up the actual running store and go there.

Second issue--stride. If you are running at a 4.0 - 4.2 pace, then your stride is way too short. You need to lengthen it (take longer steps). I'm not sure how tall your are/what your inseam is, but I am short. 5'2" with short little legs to boot. And 4.0 is a walking pace for me. A fast walking pace, to be sure, but still a walk. And that is not because I am in shape. Even when I was a chub I could walk at that pace. So that tells me that you are "jogging" but you are taking teeny tiny little steps. Again, that is going to torque all kinds of stuff. I know that you can't run outside since you are home with your sleeping kids, but a shortened stride like that is a definite side effect of running on the TM. People naturally shorten their stride when on a TM because you are afraid of falling of the back and all of that. Can you run outside on the week-ends at least one day? In the mean time, crank that TM up to 4.8 (which is still a slow running pace) and try lengthening your stride.

Last thing--stretching. What are you doing for stretches? Are you doing them correctly? 3-5 minutes is plenty of stretch time, so that is great. Just make sure you are doing the right stretches the right way.

And please don't think I am talking down to you. You are a total goddess for running at 5 AM! :goodvibes

E is so right about the shoes. I learned thee hard way. Have nb for everyday casual insteadof running. Sorry can't go back to fix typo. It is worth getting fitted. So you guys know I am a sucker, right? Got off work on time tonight and my kids conned me. That's right! Alvin& the chipmunks.

Thanks Erika for all the info. Yes I am also short 5'2"
4.8 I cant even imagin that pace right now, but I will give it a try on Saturday, No running outside is not an option right now. Not unitl at least March.
I dont know even where to look for the running store

Hey how was the movie

Jo--let me know where you are in IL and I can get you the name of the nearest running store.

Don't jump right into 4.8. Start at 4.2, then 4.5, then 4.8. Lengthening your stride each time, but not actually running any faster, if that makes sense. See if you can get to 5.0. If not, no big deal. Just build from wherever you can.

The deer is back on the porch driving my poor chihuahua crazy. I really think Bambi knows how aggravating this is to her. This is a recurring event for them.

I'm enjoying an adult beverage while going green this year by 'wrapping' some things in reusable bags. Very cute ones too.

It's midnight on a very special day!!!!

Hit it boys!!!! Hit it! :dance3:

And a one, and a two and a one, two, three...

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
