In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Good morning, from Physic's Central :lmao:

Nancy--does your F6 require the chest strap?

yes, it does.

2. I am with Paula, what is PR?

"personal record" - like your fastest time.

3. HRM - Polar. Buy a basic one. You'll never use the other features.

agreed. The first one I had was more basic than this one - I like the ability to check my weekly totals, etc and it stores info so I can go back and compare workouts...some of them can be hooked up to your computer so you can upload/download crap (as if!) that's just way too much for me. And since I do most of my running indoors or on known trails vs. roads, the gps tracking function for distance/pacing isn't quite as high a priority for me.

There are a lot of options out there - and I think Liz is right. Pick something basic first - to see if you are even going to use it. Then if you decide at some later date that you really wish it had a specific function, when the time comes to upgrade you'll know what to look for.

Kat - thought of you this morning.... can't wait to hear the details! I know you weren't really following the series, but the second period of last night's game was really good...

Erika - thanks for the info on the camelback... I will check it out

Amy, Nancy, Liz - thanks for the info on the polar / garmin. I will start checking them out. I am looking for something basic, but with maybe a few features on it. We'll see... gotta do my shopping around first.

LisaV - Jesse is a Lakers fan.. the NBA playoffs were all I heard about this week during my sessions (that and some of his funny, I'm a 25 year old man sagas) and I thought of you. Oh - and I guess the gym is going to start posting pics and bios of the trainers on their website so you may get your picture of Jesse after all... we'll see - the company that own's the gym is not the best marketing folks I've seen so who knows when this will get done...

Kelly - awesome news on the loss... forgot to mention that earlier...

OK - workout done for the day (awesome workout - feeling really good right now) so I am off to tackle some chores around the house. Need to get my spring cleaning done (yeah I am a little late) and start going through my clutter for a yard sale at my parents' camp in two weeks. Great opportunity to get rid of some crap and a lot of clothes that no longer fit. Oh - bought a size 20 linen blouse last night. I honestly can't remember ever wearing that size... I am getting closer to having that first number in my size be a 1 instead of a 2. That will be a huge milestone... huge! Now if only my abdomen and hips would follow suit.... :rotfl: That area is just taking a little long to say goodbye to the fat than my upper body... It will get there right?

Hope you are all doing something fun today!!!!

Hey all,

Race went well considering the freaking temperature was 95 in the sun. Finished in 37 minutes, which is my worst time since last summer, but I can't be too mad about it. I am just used to seeing my time in the 33's for a 5k. I talked to some super nice ladies before the race, they wanted to know where I got my bondi band. I also talked to a few people who were running their first race. Got lots of comments on my WISH shirt. They had so much beer. All microbrews and all you could drink. It wasnt advertised as all you can drink so I was expecting the standard free drink ticket or 2 for a craptastic beer. I had several beers I had never tried before!
Here is a pic post race with my BEER! I was SO SO hot and sweaty and gross.

And one of me attempting a sprint to the finish.

Little D fell asleep shortly after watching me finish. It was the 2nd no nap day in a row.

Hi! Up at camp.

Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I was this drunk. OMG. Hammered.

Spent 8 hours on the baseball field today..Ugh. Then came up to camp. And have been drinking ever since.

Amy - way to go in the heat! I didn't realize you were running for beer. I'd be like the greyhound chasing the rabbit.

HRMs and Camelbaks - I have a Polar RS200. It has a couple of shortcomings for interval training, but it really helps me gauge effort and exertion. I'd recommend it for anyone starting a running program. I'll echo the "go cheap." My Camelbak is a backpack model - Lobo, I think. I've used it for long distance cycling (Katy Trail along the Missouri River). It is amazing what a difference good hydration makes. For running I've thought about one of the lumbar ones, but wonder about refillng during a race. Currently I use a bottle with a hand strap (Ultimate Direction Fast Draw).

Our neighborhood block party was last night. It was a smashing success. All of the entertainment showed up. The crowd was at least 200 people. I will need to buy more food next year. Sue was dispatched for another 25 hamburgers. No neighbor squabbles or factions that can mar gatherings like this. The weather was made-to-order perfect. Mostly overcast all day, sun and the end, 70s and no chance of rain. I'm sitting here this morning and watch the radar light up with storms. Everyone pitched in and by 9:30 the street was clear and we were walking the dogs. I may add some pics later.

I enjoy planning this event. We are relatively new to the neighborhood (two years in September) though Sue only lived a few blocks from here when we met. I get crazy and stressed at the end, but listening to the kids squeal in the moonwalk or shriek at the python in the reptile show makes it worth it. On the downside, there's a porta-potty in my driveway - it'll get picked up today :)

I ran Thursday. Starting to up the distance. I started out running for time, but now, running in the park behind my office, I am starting to measure distance/laps. We haven't run yet this weekend and I hope to get out today. My plan is to run 10-12 miles a week through the summer and start the MFM half marathon plan in October. To those who have come before me, is this a sound plan?

Kat - let's hear about your race.

Jennifer - I, too, had a friend who had fusion surgery in the neck and it turned out great. Her problem came on so fast - over the course of three weeks she went from no problem to post-op. Good luck with the MRI - breath deeply.

Erika - this is just a shout out to make your head hurt a little more!

I am considering a big bike ride next year. cyclingforchange.org, St Louis to Mobile segment. We'll see. Of course, it might require a new bike, too.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Ronda

Thanks guys!!!

Sorry, I took a whole day off the computer yesterday. Basically anchored down the couch and watched tv. I am catching up on two shows, Bones and Numb3rs, through the joy of Netflix and DVR. :)

Amy, love the pictures. You are looking SO thin!!

Liz, I would come run with you, but I am not too much better off!

Paula, WOOO! on the size. You will be in the 1s before you know it! Btw, I still am just amazed at your progress. The last group of photos you showed us was just phenomal.

E, enjoy the camp!!

LisaV, sorry about the hockey. I did watch most of the game the other night, but the excitement level just isn't the same somehow.

Ronda, that party sounds like a blast!!

Okay, the race:

Yeah, it was definitely early!!! I left my house at about 6:15AM, stopped by work to get my mp3 player, and got to the arena parking lot at about 6:40. The parking lot (which is for the 18K seating capacity arena) was at least 2/3 full by then, maybe more.

The race turned out to not really be a race. I had never done this with my hockey org before, and evidently this is a walk with your team event for them.

However, I can totally see why as it would have been neigh on impossible to run. Something like 23,000 people walked/ran the event, and they break it into the competitive at 7AM, the womens only at 7:45AM, and the open at 9AM. We did the women's only, which probably had at least 3 times the amount of people as the one in NJ. From what I could tell for the open, it probably took 20 min to get to the start of the race from the back of the line!!

I think we walked it in a bit under an hour. It was already 80 degrees at 8AM, and very humid. Also, the course winds through some of the older neighorhoods in downtown Raleigh, and is far from flat. It was nice to see a lot of the folks that live there out on their front lawns cheering, and a few of the local bands and choirs were singing us along.

Oh, and I wore Liz's shirt. :)

Amy - the race pics are awesome... Little D looks wiped out - too cute...

Ronda - so happy the block party went well. Sounds like quite the event.

Kat - first off thanks... :goodvibes second, yeah on the walk. A great cause and a great turnout. Glad you had fun at it. Oh and I did a bit of anchoring down the couch too yesterday. Loved every minute of it too...

Got my first real 10 mile bike ride in today (and can still walk afterwards...). I am off to look at camelbacks since my little water bottle is not anywhere near big enough for this type of riding that and I am not nearly coordinated enough to grab it while actually riding the bike. God help me if I ever decide to go for the pedals with the clips....

Hope everyone is doing something fun today.

Ronda--The party sounds like it was a huge success! Awesome! And the beer was massive motivation for me in that race! We ran into the sun for well over a mile, which was brutal. Even for someone who is fairly used to being active in the heat.

Paula--Little D was so so tired. DH said she fell asleep right after I finished. She has not been into the naps the past few days. It had been a long time since she slept in the stroller like that. AND woo-hoo on the smaller sizes. That feels so good!

Kat--Thanks! it sounds like your race went well! I may end up doing a race for the cure in Vermont towards the end of july and probably the one here in october.

Erika--I am hammered tonight!! I took last night off! thanks for posting the camelback link. That will even fit into my I don't have a job budget!!

amykab - I ran in the sun this afternoon. Thought it had to be in the mid-80s. I was so pooped. Checked... 74 degrees. :o :sad2:

OMG. Drinking. alot. :rolleyes1

Amy - great race pictures. And all you can drink beer? BONUS!

Rhonda- sounds like your party was a huge success! :woohoo:

Your running plans sound good to me - and biking from St. Louis to Mobile :worship: that would be AMAZING

Kat- :thumbsup2 nice job on the 5K. With a crowd that size I can understand how it's virtually impossible to run. There's not enough time for the crowd to ever thin out at all!

Paula - 10 miles on your bike! :yay:

Ronda, 74 is the temp at like 6AM!! The reading in my car, actually, at 6:30 on the way to the race on Saturday was already about 78.

I can't even imagine a race starting at 7PM. I imagine that FL is like here, where the real heat of the day is later in the afternoon (like 4-8PM). Brutal.

Sad, but I threw my whole weekend to the wind for both eating and drinking. Sigh.

LisaV, saw a House Hunters based on Toronto tonight and totally thought of you.

Wow! I'm waking up the tread at 10:30 am!!!! Sounds like a crazy Monday!!

Amy - loved the pic of you. You look so good.

Kat - great job on getting out there and doing it!!!

Ronda - glad your block party went well.

Nancy - your son, wow, pretty smart eh. I don't even understand what you are talking about. I heard Batman.

I'm kinda "on". Don't want to jinx it. Went to the grocery store on Saturday and didn't buy one thing of junk. My house is void of temptation (cause I already ate it all, but I didn't get more).

Workers Comp Audit today. Yay. (that was sarcasm). My accountant will handle, but I have to be available for any questions. Blech.

bleh. That's awfully warm for so early in the morning. That's 74* is going to be our high for the day today.

Nancy - your son, wow, pretty smart eh. I don't even understand what you are talking about. I heard Batman.

Physics project is DONE! They not only took over the entire first floor of my house, but my garage as well. The place looked like a war zone. :scared: Once completed and functioning, they took the project into the garage for painting this weekend. Finished it around 7:00 last night and made a gut-wreching discovery.

It didn't fit in the car. :scared1:

All along their plan was to take the back seats out of my van and slide it in. It was too tall. Plan B. Put it in the back of the truck. No way. a) the forecast called for rain showers today and b) it was taller than the cab of the truck so there was the whole wind issue.

So - at 7:30 this morning, I cleaned the livestock trailer (we had used it yesterday). Stephen drove the truck, Seth rode in the trailer with the project, I followed with Seth's car. Got it there. All in one piece. Hopefully now it will all function according to plan when it's their turn to demonstrate!

Lyz - you'll appreciate this. We are delivering this gigantic contraption into the physics lab. There is a freshman earth-science class in there at the time. The teacher explains that we are delivering a machine that the kids built - and that the object was for this machine to turn on a flashlight. Girl in the front row says "well, why don't they just push the button?":confused3

:lmao:

As for me - I'm a frazzled mess. Eating is really wonky. Water has been spotty - today I feel nasty, so I'm working on the hydration & flushing my system of all the crap from the weekend. I ate stuff I never eat. Chili dog. Something called "meat mound" (meat. wrapped in bacon.) homefries. omlet with real eggs (not whites) and full-fat cheese.

ack. pass the broccoli and spinach would you please? :upsidedow

Hope everyone is having a good Monday.

And Amiee - happy vacationing!!! :wizard:

Nancy - bet the kids learned a lesson on that one... make sure the contraption will fit... can't wait to hear how things went.

Lyz - good luck with the audit. I know how nervewracking those can be... fingers crossed for you....

I am reading... not much going on here... just trying to fend off my newly minted afternoon boredom eating... I am willing boxing up files this afternoon in an effort to keep myself from mindlessly eating my way through the afternoon. Me - willingly filing.... you all know how much I detest filing... :confused3

I have my weigh in tonight and a session with Jesse. My schedule is all kinds of screwed up for the next two weeks so things should be interesting...

Paula? Volunteering to file? :faint:

I get that mindless boredom eating. I hate that. And sometimes a shake-up of your routine can be a good thing. Just need to develop a strategy on how to deal with it. (see that would be where I fall short. Failing to adequately plan for these things):headache:

Now I'm just putting off doing some non-fun chores. :rolleyes1 bah. back to work for me.

Lyz - hope the audit is going well!

Hi Everyone!

Just a fly-by from me, Ive finally managed to get the computer on! Wild Thunder and Lightning storms all day have made my internet go a bit bonkers!

Kat - Well done on the race - 74* in the morning? We are lucky if our combined temperatures over three days add up to 74* :rotfl:

Amy - Well done on your race too - your pictures are great, you look fab! Love the one of Little D conked out in her buggy!

Ronda - Your party sounds like so much fun :)

Everyone else - Hi!
