In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Hey team... did I stumble onto a weight loss thread? How did that happen? :rotfl:

Dawn - I have no advice for you on the altitude thing. I remember when I was in Boulder, walking up a flight of stairs was an effort. Hope Treynor gets through this quickly.

Amy - the kids go back to school tomorrow? Yikes that is early!

LisaZ - have a great time on your trip!!!

LisaV - sending you hugs. Hope you get through this soon.

Not much going on here. Just crazy at work and me trying to keep up and get back into the groove.

Good Morning Everyone!....actually its 2.20pm here! :lmao:

Just a quick check-in whilst im at work, on my second bottle of water!

Hope everyone is well :upsidedow

Good Morning!!! Time to get up people...

I should warn you - I have my angry eyes on already this morning. You see, there is a sinkhole in front of my house and the city is working on it (it is not opening up near the house so the house is in no danger - it is just the road and sidewalk that is affected). The problem is that the crew parked the backhoe in front of my driveway blocking me in and was giving me a hard time about moving it this morning when I was leaving for work. It is never a good sign when you are yelling on contractors that early in the day - and these guys don't even work for me! It just reinforces my theory that contractors can be really stupid at times! Bah...

I am at work now (45 minutes late thank you very much city crew) and trying to get back to my normal self. Wish me luck...

45 minutes? They held you up for 45 minutes? I'd be fuming!

So. I have poison ivy. It's not comfortable, and it's not pretty. And...it's not visible :rolleyes1

off to take Becca to the dr. - non-descript knee pain for oh, a couple weeks now....

I have poison ivy too. Unfortunately, mine makes me look like I have leprosy of the left ankle. Throw in for about 900 million leg bug bites and super-white skin (I have yet to be outside at all this summer), and it's just loverly.

Hope Becca is okay!

Paula, I would have been fuming too. And if D were home, well, let's just say I might be bailing him out of jail...

Is it Friday yet??

Dawn: first of all, you can tell Treyner that only in my dreams would I be able to run 2 miles in 14 minutes!! I don't know much about the altitude stuff, other than that it just takes time to get used to it. I imagine because he is sick on top of it that it probably feels even worse. And the hydration is a no brainer regardless of where you are. I would love to train for a race in a higher altitude and than come back here and run at sea level!!
I will pass the 2 miles in 14 minutes isn't the wost record on to him - it will make him feel better because when I say anything - he knows I know nada abot rnning and times. He actually is saying he can't wait to get back home and run circles around his Thunder team next summer if he stays with them.
Dawn - no real advice from me either. But I *do* know that it's gonna take a while to adjust to the altitude, and the resulting decreased oxygen levels. The first time Stephen & I were ever in Denver, I went for a run....felt GREAT. Then...I crashed. For the next few days I felt like I had bronchitis - just not enough oxygen entering my system....[/COLOR][/B]
He was saying last night that his legs were shot and his chest hurt so bad he wanted to die. I looked up info on altitude adjustment and here is the info I got - Treyner should have been in Durango 2 weeks ago. I feel like a bad parent.

What causes high-altitude illness?
The higher you climb above sea level, the less oxygen there is in the air. The oxygen level becomes very low at altitudes above 8,000 feet. This causes problems for people who normally live at lower altitudes because their bodies aren't used to working on so little oxygen. If you stay at a high altitude for a long time, your body gets used to the low oxygen level, and you don't get sick from it.

The following are the 3 main types of high-altitude illness:

•Acute mountain sickness
•High-altitude pulmonary edema (also called HAPE), which affects the lungs
•High-altitude cerebral edema (also called HACE), which affects the brain
These illnesses can be serious, but they can also be prevented.

How can I prevent high-altitude illness?
You can do 2 important things to prevent high-altitude illness:

1.Take your time traveling to higher altitudes. When you travel to a high altitude, your body will begin adjusting right away to the lower amount of oxygen in the air, but it takes several days for your body to adjust completely. If you're healthy, you can probably safely go from sea level to an altitude of 8,000 feet in a few days. But when you reach an altitude above 8,000 feet, don't go up faster than 1,000 feet per day. The closer you live to sea level, the more time your body will need to get used to a high altitude. Plan your trip so your body has time to get used to the high altitude before you start your physical activity.
2.Sleep at an altitude that is lower than the altitude you are at during the day. For example, if you ski at an elevation of 10,000 feet during the day, sleep the night before and the night after at an elevation of 8,500 feet.

I also read an article that said a persons metabolism speeds up in higher altitudes due to the extra work that your body puts out to do anything - explains the weight loss last week! Now I know how to get skinny! Moving truck on the way!

I will say that he is much more understanding of being fat. He said last night that he feels he is running with an extra 100 pounds on him. I just waited and he said - "now I know why it is such a huge motivation for you to get up and start - if I did not have to do this there is no way I would."

BTW: Denver is at 5281 feet - Fort Lewis is on a plateau 500 feet above Durango - about 7500-8000 feet depending on where you are. That is why his school likes winning conference titles - Metro College in Denver and others in Colorado - have to come to them. That 2000 plus feet makes a huge difference in leverage over another team.

The school has a cycling team that has won national and international titles for years and the town is known for Tour de France training.
Howdy!

It's the first day of school eve and the kiddos are driving me nuts. Ryan had football practice tonight and he is so exhausted (missed it because of work). That's a good thing. Taylor starts kindergarten tomorrow and can't wait. My babies are growing up. I hate that school starts in August here. If I was in charge, I would at least factor in a fall break.

Since this is a weight loss thread ~
food & exercise check
water ~ I'm floating
My gosh - you guys start early too - Dan's daughters stared yesterday - my kids in Minnesota do not start till the 8th/9th of September!

Thanks and I will pass it along to him! It almost makes you feel like you are crazy - like why am I so tired and winded - I know I am fat but back home it is easier!

I am at work now (45 minutes late thank you very much city crew) and trying to get back to my normal self. Wish me luck...
Can you get a boot on their big moving equipment - with your connections you should be able to pull some great get back!;)

Tell me about your mother.....:lmao:
off to take Becca to the dr. - non-descript knee pain for oh, a couple weeks now....

Hope she gets some answers!

Down another pound today!

Hope Becca is okay!

She is, thanks! Not much to worry about...the Dr's first recommendation though was that she TIE HER SHOES!

:lmao::lmao:

I need ideas for dinner. I'm just in a bleh mood these days - so uninspired when it comes to menu planning....

Nancy - I can't help you with dinner suggestions. I took my dad to dinner at a local diner. He had roast chicken, I had broiled tilapia with summer veggies and rice - yum!

I am tired tonight. Worked out with Jesse for three days straight (more squats with 35 pound dumbbells tonight - ugh) and my body is saying 'uncle'. Thankfully, I don't have to go back to the torture sessions until Tuesday. The rest of the week will be spent with golf (two rounds) and hopefully a cardio workout or two.

Angry eyes have been safely packed away. Things got better as the morning went on and I am actually crossing many things off my to do list at work. Hopefully, I can get the list done tomorrow and head out with a clean desk tomorrow. Friday is the annual golf outing so it is a short week for me work wise - :cool1:

Hope everyone is having a good night! I am off to get some work done here.

We're staying 3 nights onsite at Universal, and then 4 nights offsite on International Drive.

Do some more squats, push ups and crunches for me, okay? I don't want to do any! :cutie:

Lisa, which Universal hotel? So curious about them. I'm considering staying a night or two at Universal during our next trip, so we can take advantage of the line skipping. Hope you have a good trip.

Um, Nancy? Not visible makes it sound like you and hubs did some hanky panky in the woods. :rolleyes1

On a more serious note, I hope Becca is ok.

I have poison ivy too. Unfortunately, mine makes me look like I have leprosy of the left ankle. Throw in for about 900 million leg bug bites and super-white skin (I have yet to be outside at all this summer), and it's just loverly.

Yikes! Bug bites suck, but on top of poison ivy with it must be torture.

Heck yeah! That does sound like a good idea.

Do we need to have a chat with Jesse about those squats?

Local diner for dinner ~ I love it! I love local establishments. I found a new cafe 3 blocks from work that is yummy and cheap (our downtown area is dead except for banks and attorneys). Top it off, they have a salad bar. It's a small one, but it's really good. Homemade soup and salad bar for $5.

Could you? I don't think it would get me anywhere, but you could try... On second thought, it would likely get me more squats with higher weights.... ugh :rotfl:

Good Morning everyone!

Thankfully, this morning there was no run in with the backhoe operators - yeah!!! Angry eyes are still safely packed away for the day. Let's hope they stay there.

My buddy and his significant other arrive tonight. I'll try to check posts over the weekend, but I am not sure how much computer time I will have. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Paula - enjoy your short week! Enjoy even more your friends!

I am up early today with a mission to be out the door by 8:30 (:scared1: 1 hour from now) and head to the zoo with Baylor for the morning. Great place to see the anilmals and walk.

Did not hear from Treyner - his cell phone was off - so hope he survived yesterday as a full day of practice.

Other than that - cleaning and laundry and business calls are my only excitement to report!

Good Morning...Afternoon Everyone!

Ive finally had chance to have a bit of a catch up!

You will be good Nancy - you are a good Mom and he is bright and strong and capable. Just keep in your heart that he is what all of us hopes our daughters will find someday - a person willing to take the high road cause it is the right thing - not the easiest. I respect his choice to serve this country more than I have said to you and you have more admiration from this Mom for raising a son to be that kind of MAN than I would give to most of the seniors I knew that were more worried about partying and the moment than their future.

Nancy, I didn't know your son was going into the Military! What is he joining? (Did that make sense?!) Very cool that he is going to serve his country, he has my respect for sure!

Dawn - Just because! I hope Treyner is feeling better.

It's the first day of school eve and the kiddos are driving me nuts.

I think the kids here start back around the 6th of September - August is Early!

I am at work now (45 minutes late thank you very much city crew) and trying to get back to my normal self. Wish me luck...

Wow, 45 minutes would have me running outside and drop kicking their machinery! :rotfl:

So. I have poison ivy. It's not comfortable, and it's not pretty. And...it's not visible :rolleyes1

:lmao: What on earth have you been doing! :rolleyes1

Throw in for about 900 million leg bug bites and super-white skin (I have yet to be outside at all this summer), and it's just loverly.

Ditto on the super-white skin! To be honest though, I could probably spend 8 hours a day in the sun and I wouldn't tan! :rotfl2: (The constant applying of sun cream may not help though! :rotfl:)

Im out for dinner tonight with the girls...normally this would be a major hurdle for me, but I decided to be prepared and Ive looked online at the menu and have already chosen what I am going to have!

Have a great day everyone :flower3:

Thanks so much -- we're looking forward to it! :cool1:

We're staying at the Royal Pacific resort, which is the least expensive of the 3. We've stayed there once before, a couple years ago for one night only, and thought it was gorgeous. This time we have 3 nights, so I'm planning to relax a lot, swim a lot, see the parks in a leisurely way, and enjoy lots of fruity drinks with umbrellas!! :hippie:

Still doing well with my eating and exercise this week....in preparation for a week of overdoing it.

HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO..... :lmao:

Where is everyone? Off having a fabulous time somewhere I hope! :flower3:

Hey Kelly! I am here but leaving soon.

Our dryer took a digger and so I am off to the laundrymat today to get some loads done. Probably will wash and just haul the wet stuff. Yuck!

Dan and I have a aurprise date night tonight - he has no idea what we are doing and it has been a LONG time since we did anything for just us. Tell ya about it tom!

I might be trying to sneak in a quick trip in Dec. to the Mouse. Such huge deals on air and Disney is giving away free dining that a stay might be a motivational factor for me for a few things. It would be a good Christmas gift for Carsyn and Baylor - I think their Dad plans a trip with them for the holidays as well.

I finally got Treyner on the phone for 15 seconds last night - had not heard from him for 2 days. I have been worried becaus ethe last time we talked - he was feeling like death and hated himself.

Well guess what:confused3 - he could not talk because he was up to do a solo Karyoke (sp?) gig in front of all the fall sports teams. They school must have thrown a mixer for them. He sounded MUCH better and was more of himself. I want him to have fun and not be homesick so him talking and running is a good thing. Gosh I remember the days of tons of fun at college as a freshman and loving the freedom.

The good news is I know now that if he is fine he will not call - it is when he calls I should be worried.:lmao:

I am down another pound today! Went swimming at the river yesterday and actually swam laps of about 100 yards 3 times plus tread water for about 20 minutes. Not a marathon bt it was moving my body. Plus I am eating much smaller meals more often and that is a new thing for me. Small changes are helping me not feel so overwhelmed.:yay:

I like it when people check-in in the morning - my post was at 3.13pm my time!! Imagine how boring it is for me! :rotfl:

So, everyone should drop what they are doing and check in to keep me entertained whilst im at work :rotfl2:

(I of course kid, please dont stop what you are doing!)

HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO..... :lmao:

Where is everyone? Off having a fabulous time somewhere I hope! :flower3:

Actually, I am sitting on a deck watching the waves break. This is my annual weekend trek to the Outer Banks of North Carolina (about a 3-4 hour drive from my house) to spend the weekend with my parents, niece/nephew, and my sister-in-law's parents. Brother/wife are sailing for the weekend in VA somewhere.

I decided to leave yesterday afteroon and work from here today... I wish I could work here every day! So relaxing. All childrem and such are down at the beach and it is peaceful and nice up here, watching over it all. :)

Tonight we will head to Ocracoke, which is a 25 min ferry ride to the south, to have dinner.
