In Search of My Body....Not the One I ATE! Vol. 5: Goddesses are Always on Top!

I have been so bad about posting. Things are busy and I’m trying to live in moderation – DIS included. DGF’s workplace is going to have layoffs. They know IF but not WHEN or HOW. So the anxiety meter is spiking as productivity has ground to a standstill. We believe her job is safe, but the loss of staff and friends will be hard.

We continue to exercise. The effects of her recent cold have dwindled to an ocassional cough – as opposed to the keep-her-up-all-night cough of last week. She’s repeating C25K week five. It ends with a 20 minute run. I wrapped up week seven today (3x25 min). The event we are training for is April 26. After that, I’m going to be lost.

I am reading a lot of sites and books to design a plan to slowly increase mileage and improve my pace over the coming months. I plan to use a Running for Mortals half marathon plan for the Donald. The plans are 14 weeks. That has me starting September 28. The biggest question would be choosing the run or the run/walk plan. If I’m leaning towards run/walk I will check out Jeff Galloway, too.

Up until the last couple of days I’ve been pain free. I have had a couple of twinges in my thigh. It’s on the outside, about six inches above my knee. I’ve read about ITB troubles and they show up in other places – plus I don’t think I’m running enough to have that injury. I’ve discounted the possibilities of a hamstring or a quad. I don’t know what else is left. It doesn’t alter my stride/gait. With the improved weather I’ve been able to ride my bike to work. It could be something from that effort.

I’ve become hyper-concious of pain. It reminds me of my mother’s constant caution against falling. A broken hip so often starts the end of independence. The goal of running the Donald is BIG and I’m already starting to guard against things that could derail the PLAN.

As for food. We’ve been pretty good about keeping to the menu I posted last weekend. I forgot about left over quiche – wow it was good! I have been struggling with bored eating at work in the afternoons. I start grazing on the goodies that sit on everyone’s desk – Hot Tamales, mini Snickers/Baby Ruth/Twix. It’s just so THERE and WAITING. Work is, uh, boring and not stimulating at all. My mind is free to wander to the mental chocolate aisle. It feels like a matter of willpower and that leaves me feeling lousy. I know it’s not hunger. I need to track. Pure and simple.

There’s an hysteria developing about snow this weekend. I call it a French Toast alert. We could get 6-12 inches!! Tune in at 6:00 for the latest prediction! I will do my part and stop to pick up milk, bread and eggs this evening.

We are contemplating a road trip in May. It won’t go by any DVC resorts – I am so jealous of just popping in to HHI!

Here are a couple more ideas:

Use the Tape Trick
Between meals stick a wide strip of tape about chest level accorss the enterance of your kitchen. It's a very effective way to make you concious of how many times you find yourself heading for the kitchen.

Cook When you Don't nibble
If you have to make potato salad for a picnic, bake cookies for a meeting, or prep for your dinner party, try to do it at a time when you eat the least, such as after a satisfying meal or in the morning.

Delay Your Satisfaction
Skip nibbling on tasteless low calorie food. Allow yourself one after dinner snack that you really, really want such as a sliver of cheesecake. Then delay eating it for as long as you can. The longer you wait the closer it gets to bedtime, so that'll be your one and only snack for the night.

Put your family on plate patrol
(This I do not struggle with but I know some do - Chad totally did.)
If you scarf the scraps from your family's plates as you clear the table, teach them to scrape the plates directlyinto the garbage can and carry them to the sink or dishwasher. Then go on with your kitchen duties with temptation gone.

Close the Calorie Gate
Decide how many calories you want to consume in a certain prime binge period, such as 9-11 p.m. During that period, eat your fill of the lowest- calorie foods possible: bowl of cantaloupe, sweet peppers, steamed veggies. You'll be full but still within a reasonable calorie limit.

Start Low, end high
Look at your plate. Pick the lowest-calorie food (typically the veggies.) Eat that first to fill you up. Then eat the next lowest-calorie item. Save your highest calorie item for last. Chances are you'll get a taste, but you may be too full to finish it.

Plenty more and great recipies that I will post as I go and try them.

Carsyn and I grabbed over 13 cucumbers last night at the grocery store. We both love them and need to peel and slice and get them ready to eat and enjoy whenever I want a snack!

I also found a yummy frozen treat. It is by Del Monte and found in the canned fruit isle.
Called "fruit chillers"
It is a frozen fruit sorbet and although I am not a huge ice cream addict at all, I think those who crave frozen goodies may like it. I know fresh fruit is better ( and we have switched over to all fresh - no juices at all) but on a summer night, this may hit the spot vs Dairy Queen. 3/4 cup of fruit per serving.

1 serving = 3 points on WW

That is all I have for now!

Paula - I hope you are not struggling so much this week.

Lisa V - I love your pics and you are a beautiful woman! I have never been to Hilton Head and have only heard grand things. Want to go bad.

Sunny - glad reading our lives gave you the motivation to treat yourself better!

BTW: It is freezing here. Snow showers and highs lower than 40. All through next week. Yet this weekend starts outdoor soccer. So I can assure you that I will be excersizing like a fool trying to keep warm on the sidelines. If ESPN covers a fat mom doing jumping jacks - it will be me! :3dglasses:lmao:

Forgot to post that I lost .8 pounds. Proud of some good choices but know where I failed myself. Tracking and water.

Down to 242 even.

Goal for next week is to break the 239 barrier for good.

Insert self kicking smilie.

So right Dawn, you're so right. Triggers. :lmao:I'm not laughing at you. Laughing at me. You should have heard me say it as I typed it.
Good to hear you're not affected Dawn. Those poor people. They are preparing in Manitoba as well.

Oh Paula. I meant to say this about bread and such. Are you sure you're not overly tired. I find that I want bread, pasta, toast when I'm tired. And I eat it. :rotfl: So laughing. I go "hmmm must be tired. Yum. Yum. Yum.":lmao:

Just completed my niece's honeymoon. So psyched for her. She chose Antigua - The Verandah Resort and Spa in the end.

Hi Sunny!

Hi Ronda!

I'm so sorry about the recent pain Ronda. Can be so frustrating, eh?

I forget where you are. Where are you? Snow? Whoa..

I adore Hot Tamales. Adore them.

As for the popping in - I so laughed. :lmao: Sometimes I can't believe my own good fortune. It really is lovely. We dreamed for ten years. Used to go to OKW and sit. BWV porch and sit. Stare at the VWL we are building sign but we were determined to buy it outright. So ten years. And thank God - cause we've been hit with layoffs twice. Well, one was redeployment bumping but same thing. As you can tell cause we're sleeping in parking lots. :lmao: Although I like it - not dragging stuff up and down in and out on the road.

So you never know is what I'm trying to say. I loved just popping in.

Steph - I had a horrible reaction to poison ivy. I had to go to the emergency room for a shot it got so bad. It was blistered and oozing. You have been working in the yard alot lately.[/B]

Steph - Poison Ivy. One subject I am very SAD to say I am well versed in. I am VERY allergic to it. I once missed almost several days of work because I had it so bad on my legs that I could barely move. I sat around all day on a towel because it just kept oozing. :scared:

So here's the deal. The reaction people get to poison ivy comes from the oils in the plant. Typically you will come into contact with the leaves and <boom> nasty rash. However - the oils can remain on surfaces for a long time. I once got posion ivy in the dead of snowy winter off a pair of leather, waterproof workboots. The oils had just been there waiting for me to come into contact :headache:. You can also get it from the VINE. If you were out working in the yard, you may have come into contact with the vine - and if you were maybe pulling weeds/twigs, etc not even known that you *found* it.
So the doctor ( PA) sat and scratched his head hadn't a clue to what it was.. No work until blisters go away! It's not poison ivy , not a burn well it could be but they aren't sure and since I don't remember burning it, that is questionable. So NO TANNING until further notice ( which sucks $$ down the drain) and back and forth to work daily to have it checked out. THe put hydrocortisone cream on it and wrapped it that made it burn worse and now it looks worse to me!

Steph - how's the new car doing? Still have its new car smell?
Yes still has the NEW CAR smell but is racking up the miles! I already have 400 and something on it and I have just had it a week!:scared1:

Ok so Dad and GF are driving in tonight, they will get here to my empty house while we are surviving another night of Unorganizational H E L L.
Tomorrow My Step mom and my brother come in while we are all at the show! So glad they come to see us! :rolleyes1 No they come to see the kids skate and that is what they come for! I am glad they come for that!

Ok off to head for the doctors again! Then another appointment right after that for Samantha for her knee Hopefully the last one we have for that!
Have a great day and weekend I won't be on all weekend ( show weekend):eek:popcorn::

Hey everybody!

I don't think I posted my challenge stuff last week, so here goes for both weeks:

I am tracking daily because it feels odd when I don't track. I am at 415 minutes for exercise (nearly 7 hours, not including my marathon walking days at work last week!) and I have increased my water - plain water, up to at least 2 bottles per day, many 3. I know it's still low, but I am getting there. I'm not tracking it, but I have lost 2.5 lbs this week. Woo Hoo!!

/
Amiee - I know you aren't tracking your weight loss, but congrats on the loss!!! That is awesome... :woohoo:

Its official - I have lost all ambition to actually accomplish anything more at work this week. It is a beautiful spring day up here with temps near 60 (sorry to all of you folk who are dealing with crappy weather) and I need to get outside to enjoy some of it.

I am heading out to dinner and a movie with my sister tonight. We are going to see Duplicity w/ Clive Owens (hubba hubba) so that should be fun. Not sure where we are eating yet, but it will be light for me and probably seafood of some sort.

I'll probably check in again before I leave for CT tomorrow, but have a great weekend if I miss anyone.

Paula

Forgot to mention - Steph, don't feel bad about the mileage. It is a car and it is meant to be driven after all...

I’ve become hyper-concious of pain.

Yes. Awareness of what's going on with your body. When something isn't quite *right* it always makes me wonder.

Do you take time to stretch? Maybe something somewhere is just tightening up. It may not even be that particular muscle - each affects the other, kind of like a domino effect.

I have been struggling with bored eating at work in the afternoons. I start grazing on the goodies that sit on everyone’s desk – Hot Tamales, mini Snickers/Baby Ruth/Twix. It’s just so THERE and WAITING.

ugh. mindless eating. Totally guilty of that one myself.:sad2:

Carsyn and I grabbed over 13 cucumbers last night at the grocery store. We both love them and need to peel and slice and get them ready to eat and enjoy whenever I want a snack!

:woohoo: nice to have the kiddos eating healthy too, isn't it?

I also found a yummy frozen treat. It is by Del Monte and found in the canned fruit isle.

much better than DQ :goodvibes

Forgot to post that I lost .8 pounds. Proud of some good choices but know where I failed myself. Tracking and water.

Mad? Don't be mad. .8 lbs gone? If you lost more than 3/4 lb of fat, well, that's just a bit over 3 sticks of butter. Gone from your body. Celebrate that.

So the doctor ( PA) sat and scratched his head hadn't a clue to what it was..

Oh great. Steph has some mystery rash

Have a great day and weekend I won't be on all weekend ( show weekend):eek:popcorn::

Enjoy the show!

I'm not tracking it, but I have lost 2.5 lbs this week. Woo Hoo!!

:yay:Yay Amiee!!!

It was 60*-ish here today too. Beautiful day.

How was the movie???

posting my food.

Food: 29 points
water: decent. Not perfect
alcohol: none.
exercise: 50 min. TM. 670/1800

ugh. mindless eating. Totally guilty of that one myself.:sad2:

Hate mindless eating... hate it...

I love visual comparisons of what you lose... Twenty pounds is a large turkey. My mom pointed out when I told her I hit my fifty pounds that I lost the equivalent of our dog. Now there's a visual...

It was 60*-ish here today too. Beautiful day.

How was the movie???

The movie was fun. A little slow in the middle, but fun none the less. Saw some great previews for summer movies that I now want to see. Right after I see the new Harry Potter movie of course...

Off to pack for the weekend. Need to pack a gym bag as well as my travel bag. Ugh - I am going to be a bag lady this weekend.

Talk to you all later. I'll try to check in, but I can't promise anything.

Paula

Checking in with reports!

C25K, W1, DONE!

Weight class and 30 min run - check
Tracking - check!
Talking about my feelings - check!

Went to the movies, and NO popcorn. Gold star for me!

Must sleep. Much love to all. Be back tomorrow!

Morning!

Had a pretty good food day overall! I made pork tenderloin with a reduced balsamic vinigrette demi-glaze. Heaven! Baked potato w/ a smidge of butter no SC which is my downfall. Peas for veggie and loads of cucumbers throughout the day. 2 bananas. I will try to copy sparkpeople later.

Off to a soccer game today. Treyner plays against the MN Thunder pro team here. It may be a huge shut out but the chance at 18 to play against any level of pro team will be a highlight.

Then getting paint to start on the upstairs. I think we are going with a green in the kitchen and a copper brown in the current living room which will soon be a dining/great room. The good news is all the carpet is getting ripped up so no concern on spills or mess. I hate all the prep crud.

Baylor is planning on buying a mini-motorbike today. He saved his money for 2 years to buy it. The kid is on cloud nine and I am excited he is looking forward to something.

Carsyn is set again for this Tuesday. She is looking forward to this being a huge blessing to her growth and self assurance. I just am praying it works as planned.

Congrats to the losers this week and to those making steps towards losing!

I think I'm going to eat nothing but carrots until I turn orange. Just for fun, you understand. :lmao:

Hmm, I am not into orange. Although, that is probably the only color change that you and I could effect, since tomatoes are right on out...

It appears, at least so far, that today may be a better day than yesterday.

I am up a lb, but not all that upset considering I had at least 2-3 days of complete badness.

Sorry I have been so MIA, this week has been very stressful. I promise to be around and comment more next week, okay? :goodvibes

I think I'm going to eat nothing but carrots until I turn orange. Just for fun, you understand. :lmao:

It was in the papers over here a few years back about a man who I think only ate carrots and tomato soup - he turned orange. I think you should try it! :rotfl2:

Yes, well, it's just a thought. Could be a remedy for a year round tan. But, I conceded it could be weird looking like an Oompa Loompa.

Well, sigh, I made "French Toast" for dinner last night. I shouldn't have eaten it, but it was so good I'm having a hard time feeling bad about it. :rotfl2: GOD it was good. I put cinnamon, nutmeg and clove in mine. Awesome. But, I digress. :lmao:

Are you serious? :rotfl2: Hilarious. No, tomato soup for me, though. Just can't handle it, yuck. :happytv:

Hi! In the car on the way to Philly. Concert. The Gaslight Anthem.

Anyhoo. When Emily was about a year old, she preferred carrots and sweet potatoes to any other veggies. So unbeknownest to me, my parents, who watched her while I worked, only fed her those and nothing green. So naturally I fed her those, too. So she did, indeed, end up like an Oompa Loompa.

I was horrified at the time but it's funny now.
