In Search of My Body....Not the One I ATE! Vol. 5: Goddesses are Always on Top!

Paula - this isn't what I wanted to say, but about you feeling "off". I am scared for you. You need to push through. You are not far enough away to pick it right back up. It's like a road trip, (LisaV there you go). You are traveling to Vero beach and you have stopped in the "store that must not be named" parking lot to sleep. To get to Vero you have to get back on the road. You haven't traveled out of your way for 2 weeks now and Vero is thousands of miles away. You were JUST on the road yesterday. Even if you are tired tonight. Even if shopping sounds better. GET BACK ON! Once you get too far down the wrong road, you're screwed. I am speaking from the frozen tundra to you.

Lyz - I am totally loving you right now. (sorry Lisa, but for today she is my cutie!). You are absolutely right in that I am not that far off the road and it is not too late to get back on it. Shopping is fun, but it is much more fun when the clothes I am buying are smaller. I am not giving up on this. Thanks for kicking me in the bummocks!!!! I totally needed it.

Kelly - tell us what happened last night between you and you mil. That way we can gnash our teeth and rail against her.

Its the little things that she says...Last night we had:
1) I cant even tell you've lost any weight
2) SIL is picking her dress up next week, she got a white wedding dress...because real wedding dresses are white (mine was Ivory)
3) I hope you've got enough money to take to Cyprus with you, because you aren't staying half board like us and we won't be taking enough money to help out (we DO NOT need any help from them, we prefer to go self catering to some places so we can eat out - and we definitely prefer to stay in a different hotel to them!)

I know it sounds like Im b*tching, and maybe I am but after a while it just grates on your last nerve!

Geez Kelly. I am so so sorry. Sighing. So sorry. Good Lord. I'm speechless. Obviously jealousy and/or wants her son back (ie too close). I shouldn't hypothesize. Sorry. Really, I'm a tad shocked.

I am relieved to hear about husband. That's lovely Kelly. Good.

And nice that he's close to her too. That's always a good sign for treating women.

Big time :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc to you. I don't know how you keep your tongue. Does he talk to her and say "enough" or does she wait until he's not there.

Forgive me if that's too personal.

Not too personal - I don't do too personal I don't think! :rotfl2:
If hes in earshot he will step in, but 9 times out of 10 she will wait till hes not there. :sad2:

He is great, really wonderful, and I am lucky to have him. Its nice to know hes got my back over it and I can rely on him to step in. I don't see her as much now, I don't put myself in that situation if I can help it.

Thanks for listening Lisa, it helps to get it off my chest

Yeah cutie knew she was from Dayton. Do you know that she believes that her mother is gay and that's why she truly struggles. I read an article that she believes she sees the genes from her mother's side including her mother. Makes me laugh to no end cause that woman is something. :lmao::rotfl:

So fascinating. So was Oprah. They were talking about the Kinsey scale and how it just is all more varied with women. Men are a tad more at the ends. The fluidity. Really fascinating. And that 44% of Oprah respondants have female fantasies. Rebecca was on too saying how she just couldn't get enough of Jackie. Personally, Jackie turns me off - she always thinks that she is right and rarely sees the other side.

However, she said in an article and on Oprah that she gets thousands, thousands:lmao:, of emails from women who are straight that want to "meet" ;):rotfl:her and leave their boyfriends - husbands. She has said so many come from Southern woman. And yesterday she said so many come from her area of the country - middle America.

That was a good guess cutie. I loved it. Should have done it. Nope. Remember we didn't sleep in that WV parking lot until the next night. So where did we sleep?

Gosh Kelly - she really is a nasty woman. Black inside. I'd be so tempted to be mean back. Like "It doesn't look like you've brushed your teeth today," or "Sorry about your hair" and then she'll wonder what's wrong with it. Oh, oh, oh, wait till the wedding day. Say it then.

I am beyond lauging at you. You are so funny. I so wish I had more of you in me.

Jean's like you. She's forever saying to me "you know what Lisa too much of a good thing is not a good thing!!!!":lmao:

No wonder not killing your in-laws in on your challenge list. You have much more patience than I do. I am not sure how long I could subject myself to that without saying something.

Its never too late to get back on the road! Always picture the smaller size clothes, I find that helps me!

I am beginning to wonder if hitting the fifty pound mark is getting to me. Liz - didn't you go through something like this where you hit a milestone and then wondered now what? I am feeling a bit of that this week. On one hand, I am thrilled with my progress to date and on the other hand, I am still overwhelmed with how far I have to go. Ugh... this is making my head hurt.

I am working out tonight and that tends to make me feel better. Hopefully that will be the case tonight.

:lovestruc Paula. Have gone there. Over and over and over the years.

For me fully taking in my success has helped. Remember that I weigh 210 so there will never be a number thrill for me. Won't be happening. So I have to fully feel my success.

Also, when I get down about gaining a bit or plateauing I take my mind back to a higher weight where I was beyond thrilled. Like 225. Not the number just happened to mark a huge change in body. I was in shock over my progress at 225 so I try to feel that and think well you're at 210 so you are 15 less than that totally thrilling place.

I felt that for Liz when Erika posted some early posts. I read how thrilled she was at certain points and it made me smile so broadly about where she is.

But then again Kelly's advice is terrific.

I'm sure you can imagine how frustrating it can be for me , who had lost 75 pounds to hear over and over you must do this or that or you can't lose weight. Like can't. Like can't lose weight!!!!!!!

I agree -- just take our group as a cross section of society, and notice all the different approaches we are taking. If they each work for us individually, who cares how we do it?

I'm happy for all of us in our successes, no matter how we define what that means. :lovestruc

Up the driveway comes the UPS man with my new shoes!!!! Eight miles averaging a 10:12 mpm pace with 2 miles under 9:30 mpm. So sweet. I love, love, love the shoes.

Congrats on the new shoes -- glad you're having fun trying them out. :hippie:

Word on the borwnies. You KNOW I eat brownies and drink wine and all that stuff and still lose weight. i just don't eat brownies every day. Moderation. Why can't people get moderation?

Moderation is a tough one, sometimes.

So. I am going to more understanding and more gracious, because you just don't know what's going on with someone unless you're them.

Sorry for the snark from your friend -- I think it's a good lesson for everybody. I'm sure I hurt people unintentionally sometimes, so I'm gonna keep that story in mind. Thanks! :upsidedow

You know, my doctor is a big proponent of having some type of fun activity / vacation scheduled every other month or so. He says that having something to look forward to helps get your through the drudgery that everyday life can sometimes be.

I give myself little things to look forward to, also, like an afternoon to myself or a great dinner. A good book. Stuff like that.

I am having a horrible day. Went to MIL's house last night, enough said. Do you ever wish you could just scream at someone to shut up? I wouldn't of course, Im too much of a Lady for that :rotfl2:

You are a good woman, Kelly.

I have been off the boards for a few days, due to a nasty computer virus that attacked my work computer, and made me worried I had collected something from this site -- hopefully not!!!

Things are going pretty well for me this week -- I resisted the urge to take a peek at the scale this morning. Will wait till tomorrow -- and then post on Monday....that's the new plan, right?

It's raining here today, but on the up side -- I have a meeting this afternoon that will take me out of the office for awhile, and then I have aerobics tonight, so it's all good for now. Have a great day! :dance3:

:rotfl2: Lisa!

Ok, one thing at a time. Honeymoon. Well, we had a choice. My mom and dad wanted to give us our honeymoon as our wedding gift. So we had plans to go to Paradise Cay in the Bahamas (so I SCUBA dive my brains out! :rotfl2:). But, 2 weeks after the wedding we were moving into our house that we were building. So my parents offered to buy us living room furniture and gave us the choice.
Seriously. You have such an awesome set of parents. :worship:
Thanks for asking about my dad. He is doing SO well, thanks. He has minimal pain and is in great spirits. Frustrated to be away from work, especially now. As a minister, this is his "busy season," and all. And it is killing him not to be a part of things. But other than that, he is great.
Hope he continues to be on the mend.
what the ???? :headache: How does that happen? I hope they had a dang good reason
The reason was they forgot to tell me it changed. They needed medtronic rep there for the surgery and Medtronic changed and inbetween the scheduling on their end. Ball dropped. It ended up okay though. Carsyn and I had a day and picked out flooring and new cabinets. As far as the projet...basement 99% done. This is on the upstairs. New kitchen and flooring throughout. Found awesome deals at a builders outlet!

On to something really exciting and on toopic of this thread!! :scared1::lmao:From me can you imagine!

I found a book yesterday that I could not put down last night. It had some info I hope you all can relate to.

It talked about what type of eaters we were. How to distinguish ourselves so we can know what will help us and what things to do to help curb our hunger and our setbacks. Loads of great info and I will post them in the weeks ahead a bit each day.

The first part was again,
"Figuring out your weight loss personality"
#1 The ostrich
You are most like the Ostrich if you...
* Generally think, "I didn't/don't eat that much."
* Often say, "I'll start my diet tomorrow."
* Avoid the scale, believing if you don't see your weight, you won't be your weight.

#2 The baby
You are most like the baby if you...
* Don't take responsibility for what and how much you eat.
* Tell yourself, "If everyone else is eating it, I want to, too!"
* Want what you want when you want it.
* Overeat to be "polite." For example, "Aunt Lucy went to all this trouble to make my favorite homemade lasagna, so I have to have seconds."

#3 Restrained Eater
You are most like the restrained eater if you...
* Seesaw between extremes of dieting and overeating.
* Always think, I'll have just one.
* Eat like a bird in public but then find yourself binging in private.
* Frequently overeat diet foods, e.g., eating an entire box of fat -free crackers.
* Are always trying one diet or another.

#4 Slow Gainer
You are most like the slow gainer if you...
* Have poor impulse control
* Don't know why the scale keeps inching up
* Step on the scale with optimism and step back off in shock
* Bake for other people but taste and taste
* Feel victimised, because you believe you are doing everything right yet still are overweight.

#5 Weekend Eater
You are most like a weekend eater if you...
* Eat well and excersize all week but treat the weekends with abandon
* Find that your biggest splurges happen from Friday night through Sunday night.
* Can't enjoy yourself if you hav eto monitor your alcohol intake or crunch calories on your Saturday night out.
* Love to socialize and go to parties.

#6 Good/Bad Fairy
You are most like the good/bad fairy if you...
* Use food as a reward and swear off food as a punishment
* Ignore cheescake in a friends's kitchen but then cruise to your local bakery for a slice.
* Often think, " I've been so good. I never eat ice cream, so I can have some now."
* Punish yourself for overeating by starving yourself.
* Punish yourself for overeating by overeating even more, thus abandoning your weight - loss plan.

#7 Stress Eater
You are most like the stress eater if you...
* Often feel anxiety, stress or fear.
* Often zone out in front of the tv with a family size bag of chips
* Turn tyo foos before anything else, including excersize, a hot bath or a good book, to anesthetize scary feelings.
* Will reach for anything (powdered jello, peanut butter by the spoonfull) when your favorite comfort food isn't available.

I thought it was some great insight and hope some of you do as well. I think I am in several of these and I really am trying to determine which one in particular. Not all things apply in any one but I would say I am a Good/Bad fairy, Ostrich and Restrained eater.

Next up. Find your diet solutions. They list some tips to help you keep foccussed and some are more geared to the certain type of weight loss personality you have.

Have a great day all.

Total vent here -
Liz - that was great insight. You are right some days we just are snarky based on what we know and even then not always right to say. You gave me some food for thought.
Liz - ok. Totally blows. GRACE is a big gift. I give it to many people, but not enough to my daughters.
Amen sistah! I read somewhere,
"Treat your family like guests and your guests like family."

I need to work on that myself.

So much to respond to, and I'm not even caught up yet!

LisaV - love the pictures. And your workout. LOVE the cardio choices you posted

LisaPR - rain in Sunday :headache: 18 miles on a TM is so mentally challenging - and if you have been running outside all this time, TM would be just AWFUL. How bad is the rain supposed to be? Do you mind running in the rain? What if you started inside on the TM for 10 miles then hit the road for the final 8? Or did 5 inside, 8 outside then 5 more inside? :confused3

and do check out the goat soap as well as the lotion. The soap contains all the naturally occurring glycerin, and by it's very nature is extremely moisturizing in itself.

Erika - Competitive? YOU? :confused3 really? I'm sure no one has noticed  I'm mostly competitive with myself at the gym. I really don't pay too much attention to what other people are doing. Unless of course I see someone doing something fun/cool/different that I want to try!

Liz - so you got busy and it took you a while to get the Dr.'s name to your friend. If she wanted it that bad, she coulda reminded you that she had asked. Wasn't really necessary to be so snotty about it.

And my favorite mid-morning snack? The same almost every day. I work out first thing in the morning. Ok, 2nd thing. First I make sure all my *kids* (human and goat ) are taken care of so I hit the gym typically 8:00ish. So anyway - my mid morning snack is my post workout smoothie. Totally yum.

Paula - love your vacation ideas. Hope Vero works out for you - sounds like a lovely idea

Steph - Poison Ivy. One subject I am very SAD to say I am well versed in. I am VERY allergic to it. I once missed almost several days of work because I had it so bad on my legs that I could barely move. I sat around all day on a towel because it just kept oozing. :scared:

So here's the deal. The reaction people get to poison ivy comes from the oils in the plant. Typically you will come into contact with the leaves and <boom> nasty rash. However - the oils can remain on surfaces for a long time. I once got posion ivy in the dead of snowy winter off a pair of leather, waterproof workboots. The oils had just been there waiting for me to come into contact :headache:. You can also get it from the VINE. If you were out working in the yard, you may have come into contact with the vine - and if you were maybe pulling weeds/twigs, etc not even known that you *found* it.

ok. Off to read more and hopefully catch up!

EriKa - how was the gyno appointment? Did you schedule one in 6.5years?

:lmao:

I am speaking from the frozen tundra to you.

:flower3: But you are back in the car. That's what counts.

Don't get me wrong, I do like MIL and when she is good she is very good, but sometimes the things she says are just hurtful.

Dear God. It's like a real life episode of Everyone Loves Raymond

Well if you were in Savannah, I hope to holy heck to went to Paula Deens Restaurant and had ho cakes with Bobby and Jamie!

Oh. Good one. That would be fabulous! DH's cousin went there once - :dance3: so jealous!

"Sorry about your hair" and then she'll wonder what's wrong with it. Oh, oh, oh, wait till the wedding day. Say it then.

:lmao: That's hysterical.

On one hand, I am thrilled with my progress to date and on the other hand, I am still overwhelmed with how far I have to go.

 But just look at how far you've come. Maybe you aren't "there" yet, but pulling into a rest stop is not the end of the journey. Embrace the now and let the rest of it come to you. (LisaV - is that your voice I'm hearing in my head right now :rolleyes1)

I have been off the boards for a few days, due to a nasty computer virus that attacked my work computer, and made me worried I had collected something from this site -- hopefully not!!!

Bummer :headache: hope it's all straightened out now! Enjoy your aerobics tonight! :yay:

The reason was they forgot to tell me it changed.

That really stinks. So incredibly annoying :headache:

Book sounds interesting. Hope you find something that "clicks" for you. I remember my big "ah-ha" moment. I had borrowed Oprah & Bob Greene's book "Make the Connection" from the library. Started reading it in the parking lot. Sat there and sobbed like a baby. I knew I was ready to lose weight. Just knew it right then

Good luck with the remodel. I'm getting a new kitchen sink :woohoo: Not a whole new kitchen - just the sink/faucet. Can't wait.

LisaV! I can't believe I almost forgot to tell you this!

Tuesday. That's the *big day* The day I get my body fat tested

Sorry I have been rather MIA. Still catching up on work.

This is the general format of my Tues, non-step kickboxing class:

5-10 min warm up, usually some dynamic stretching and then a punching session to warm up arms
8 jabs, 8 crosses -- 2 sets
4 jabs, 4 crosses -- 2-4 sets
2 jabs, 2 crosses -- 2-8 sets
jab-cross -- 8 sets
repeat on other arm
20 pushups
~10 min kicking sequence:
8 single time front kicks
8 single time front kicks + cross
4-6 sets of 8 double time front kicks (toe taps ground lightly between sets)
8 single time front kicks
2-4 sets of triple kicks (shin, knee, head)
8 hitch kicks (opposite knee up, land kick)
8 single time front kicks
... repeat on other leg
... repeat with a side kick, on both legs
20 pushups
15 min of intervals, changes from week to week
usually includes, as the interval, a punching sequence that is 3 moving jabs forward, knee, 3 blocks moving backward, kick. The knee becomes a front kick, then a powered front kick.
another that is (moving forward) step step, side knee block, shuffle shuffle (backward) front kick. knee block becomes side kick, then a power side kick.
20 pushups
5 min of walking lunges and side lunges
20 pushups
5 min of abs and cool down.

I usually do the non-step class with 2 lb weights, and the walking lunges with 10 lb weights.

The step class changes from week to week, but the main changes are that the 15 min interval + 5 min walking lunges becomes all sorts of craziness involving kicking and a step.

Okay,

So we're off to our parking lot and right around Savannah I have a hmmmm moment. It's still relatively warm. I'm heading north - the wrong direction. :lmao: So I go wait - I love spontaneity.

So I run into the Sam's Club :scared1:to use their phone and maybe check out some jeans. :rolleyes1

Guess who I'm calling?

Member Services.

You see I adore HHI and we're a half hour away. Jean doesn't need coaxing cause it's March Madness folks. Totally taken care of.

And they don't have a studio but they have a one bedroom. Oh don't twist my arm!!

I've been there about three years ago but only in a studio but at that times I had my eye on the one bedroom balcony. See I'm all about the outdoor space even on vacation.

So we're off! 33 weekend points later. :rolleyes1

Oh I'm in heaven. Still warm (warmish) weather. HHI!!!! A one bedrroom. But I'm mostly in heaven because spontaneity is my thing. I adore it. :dance3:

So here we go. Not Paula Deen's but thanks for guessing cutie.

I know you're on the edge of your seats, right? :

Erika and I will understand these words "It was all for a coat!"
