In search of my body...not the one I ate! Part Deux... We sit at the popular table!

Ah, why'd you wake me up? I like sleeping!!! ;)

Ok, off to spin class. I am insane. Later!

I love spin classes! :woohoo: :woohoo: I'm headed out with DH for "outdoor spin" A little shorter ride today probably, as my list of things to do today is daunting...:headache:

DAWN: I love the push/pull train analogy. So very true. :goodvibes

Hi all,

Thanks for all of the wonderful comments. Love you all for that... :grouphug: I am certainly more encouraged and enthusiastic about my goal of living a healthy lifestyle after seeing the difference in those photos.

I woke up this morning with the expectation that I would have some difficulty walking, but to my surprise I feel really good this morning. Erika, you may be right in that I am heading for the dark side... I am planning on heading to the gym tomorrow so that I can observe the boot camp class to see if that is something I can handle and spend some time on the exercise bike (I like that more than the treadmill... the treadmill tends to give me shin splints...). And for Kat, I am going to try to do five minutes on the elliptical and see if I can do it or not. In the past when I have tried it, the muscles in my butt start aching at the five minute mark and discouraged me, but I am going to try and work through this. The instructor at last night's class spoke about the levels of fitness that we work in with level one being a walk in the park and level 4 feeling like you are going to die. She focused the first half of the class on level 2 with the second half being level 3 to push us so I suspect the elliptical will be my level 3 push.

All right, I am off to get some work done this morning...

To all my fellow locomotives - whether you are pushing others or pulling yourself today, know that together, we can accomplish anything....

Have a great day everyone!!!!
Paula

Paula!!! What a difference! You are looking great.

About the elliptical... yes, it makes your butt muscles ache... because it is WORKING them! Think tight butt thoughts whenever that happens. Both the elliptical and arc make my hip muscles sore, too, which makes me think smaller hips! Every sore muscle means progress... means smaller, leaner, calorie-burning muscle.

OKAY gals (and guy)... I weighed in this morning. AT 159.6!!! (see I even did it in purple). I AM IN THE 150s!!!!

Thanks for the words of wisdom on the elliptical.... I'll try to think of those instead of cursing you all for putting the idea that I should try this darn machine in my head when the soreness starts.... :rotfl2:

Way to go on arriving in the 150's.... :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: goddess crown for you!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Paula

Lots to say and no time to say it. So for the most important:

PAULA!!!:yay: You look completely awesome. That picture really tells the tale. Good for you.

Kat!!! 150's!!! I am completely insanely jelous! You so Rock!

I loved the locomotive analogy.

I'll post later when my day has settled down.

Lyz

:rotfl2: Ok - that just struck me a REALLY funny...:rotfl2:

You're right Kat - making your muscles "cry" is good for them - only makes them stronger. DH is very fond of his Marines t-shirt that has the slogan "Pain is Weakness Leaving the Body". Quite often, I must be having a mass exodus!! (and as an aside: by "cry" I do mean from fatigue and pushing them just beyond their limits - I do NOT mean to the point of injury - 'cause, well, that'd just be plain counter-productive! :goodvibes )

OKAY gals (and guy)... I weighed in this morning. AT 159.6!!! (see I even did it in purple). I AM IN THE 150s!!!!

WHOOO HOO! Good for you, you sleek, slinky, Kat!!! me-ow!!

Nancy - love the outdoor spin comment! Ha! :lmao: I am too wussy for actual activity outside!

Paula - oh, please don't go to Erika's dark side. I mean, go for it, but maybe not that dark? I do need someone here with me...:rotfl: The elliptical made me want to die. But honestly, EVERYTHING makes me want to die. I just try not to die. And then I try not to die a second time. I am such a chicken, that if I can do something, you can do it. I, for instance, won't even try boot camp class. I hide when it's time for that one. So already you are better than me! Such encouragement, huh? ;)

Kat - OMG Whoo to the hoo!!! And nicely done, we are keeping our 10lb distance. So go buy some more 10's so you can send them to me in like a month, m'kay? ;)

So, me. I did spin and then yoga. Two hours at the gym! But then I am going to drink my weight in beer tonight so there's that to balance out my exercise. :rotfl:

Don't worry, I'm not leaving you just yet... I am a ways away from fully committing to Erika's level of the dark side. I have many years of Erika's jedi training to complete before I can officially consider myself to be at that level. Think of me as Luke in the first or is that fourth or let's say the original Star Wars. Kind of clueless, a little whiny and needed a couple of robots, a sage wiseman, a fiesty chic and the ever cool Han Solo and his overgrown teddy bear to bail me out when I get in over my head....

Paula - wan ke Goofy...

Thanks guys!!! And Liz, one pair of my new size 10 pants are already a bit on the loose side, although that may change once they go through the washer/dryer...

Paula, you can come to Liz and I's dark side, where the exercise is moderate but not all-consuming. :)

So, I had the screen at lunchtime... I think it went well and that it is a really good opp for me, but I have to wait until next week to find out if they want a face-to-face. Have another screen on Tues and then a friend of mine is trying to get me set up where he is... plus still waiting on screen #1 to get back to me. So a lot of balls in the air at the moment.

Hey Babes!

First, WOO HOO on the 150s!!!! YES!!! I knew you would get there! Total goddess! And for that, yes, you even get the purple--free of charge! ;)

Second....interesting that you are talking about the arc trainer today because I have been planning on asking you about it all morning!

So, Kat, oh goddess of the arc trainer....I need some advice. I forgot that today was Friday and thus boxing class (which I love and try not to miss). But usually I run BEFORE boxing. Since I had forgotten about class, I remembered just a second before I had to head out the door to make it to said class. So no time to run first. I finished the class (40 minutes) and still needed to do like an hour of cardio to fill my plan for the day, so I decided wth, I'll hop on the arc trainer. Kat totally lives on this thing, so I will give it a try.

Now, I have never done it before. I run, bike, row, box...all kinds of cardio, just never this. So I was sort of just shooting blind. I put it on an interval program and set the time for 60 minutes. The "easier" levels of the intervals were at a level 45 (this machine had 0 - 100 as opposed to 1-10 or other scale) and my hard intervals were at 70-75. And my steps per minute (or whatever that number is measuring was like...120-ish. I felt like I was going faster than my running speed. And I did it for the full hour.

At the end, my stats were...time: 60; calories: 825 (I don't ever pay attention to this as it is not accurate...but I do like to see the numbers); distance: 3.3 miles.

Does any of this sound right? Like, was I working hard enough?

Here is the thing (and Nancy, you can chime in here as well....or any of you who have experience with the arc trainer or ellipticals)--I was sweating. That is a good sign. And my heart rate was up...about 75%-ish. This is also good.

But my perceived exertion was really low (meaning it did not feel like I was working at all). No muscles hurt or burned at all. No fatigue at all. I felt like I could have gone another 2 hours on the thing...but yet my heart rate was up and I was sweating a lot. I was having a full out conversation with my friend next to me...hands flying and everything (yeah, I talk with my hands a lot...:rotfl2: )...and I was not breathless or anything.

So...what does this mean? Was my intensity level to low? Thoughts?

Woo Hoo! Goddess crown for two hours! Time to join the exercise challenge.

Okay, you know that in my book anyone who can do the intervals on the arc trainer and not die the first time out is in league with the Dark Forces, right? :lmao: Erika, I think you are just in such good shape this stuff is not crazy hard for you! Your heart rate levels are probably dropping - do you chart them? Do you pay attention to resting heart rate? I have a book on this stuff somewhere.

I am sooo not on the dark side. And, OMG, there I am sweaty and GROSS and who do I see? Someone from my 8th grade class. Yes, my old 8th grade friend. Nice, huh? Did I mention it's our informal 8th grade reunion this weekend? 20 years. And no, we all didn't go to high school together, so most of us really haven't seen each other in 20 years. !6 if we went to high school together. Not sure if I am going - there is a lack of babysitter and plus, my BFF Jackie doesn't want to go. I have to start working the guilt to get her to come and her husband, my friend since high school, to babysit his "niece".

Tonight I am off to the Mellencamp concert - drinking my weight in beer. Soo classy and health conscious of me!

Erika... were you on the elliptical (handles) or arc (no handles)?

I always do intervals on the arc, and random on the elliptical.

Elliptical I can do at level 7 (which would be 70) for an hour and sweat but not feel anything unless I am really tired or hungover. Arc I do on level 3-5 (30-50) and I used to feel a lot of soreness but not anymore, esp not after playing hockey for a few months. Definitely sweating, but I can carry on a conversation. And any oof the muscle soreness comes later in the day or the next day, and now that I am more accustomed to it is light, rare and mostly located in the hip flexor and glute area.

Oh, one more thing... I can do 45-60 min no problem and again, unless I am really tired or hungover, I almost always feel like I could do more.

Geebus, keep editing... anyhow to answer your question, I think that you are used to a lot of working out. Cardio is cardio and I don't think it really matters how much you think your exertion is... just that you get your time in and keep your heart rate up? And it is definitely good to switch it up once in a while.

And thanks for the free pass on the purple!!

I don't chart my heart rate. Why? Cause I am not a spreadsheet freak! :rolleyes1 :lmao: Once in a while I will check my resting heart rate, etc., but in general I don't pay a lot of attention to it. I have a HRM that I wear for workouts, and I use that to make sure I am in my target range and all of that. Otherwise, it is pretty much heart rate, schmart rate.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. Try something new and switch it up. Plus, my trouble spots these days are my outer thigh (well, inner too!) and butt. So I thought the arc might give me a good burn there, so that is why I was like, what is going on? When I run and bike...I FEEL it. It hurts and burns and I am basically miserable overall! :rotfl2: And on the arc...I kept saying to my friend, "Wow! This is fun!"

And thanks for the free pass on the purple!!

Hi gang...

thought I would check in... went to dinner and a movie with my sister for some old fashioned fun. We went to Houlihan's (a chain) for dinner and I had a single grilled chicken breast with green beans and about four forkfulls of the giant heaping so big that they must use to anchor the plate to the table scoop of mashed potatoes. We shared an appetizer of bruschetta that was made with chopped tomatoes, goat cheese and had a small bed of young greens with it. I had held off on eating my afternoon snack to account for the extra starch and protein from the goat cheese and the two small pieces of bread I ate, so one successful dinner out under my belt. I am getting the hang of this...

We went to see Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D... It was awesome... very entertaining... full of action, great special effects, scared the bejeesus out of you when you aren't expecting it and then you laugh your butt off thanks to the great comedy written into it. I give it two thumbs up....

Dawn - great idea on the six month update... I will work out that for my post tomorrow. For now, I am off to get a jump on my weekend chores...

Have a great weekend everyone and I'll try to touch base from time to time over the weekend. I'll be in closet purging / organizing hell... (four years of crap to go through in preparation for my move at the end of the summer)..

Ciao' and Buona Note'

Paula

( which I went there today and got some new shorts on the MISSES side) and looked for a new phone for me because mine is dying. I have dropped it so many times there are HUGE chips out of it and the battery is dying all the time. But couldn't find one I liked:sad2: .
But I did have a drink and gee I got a tattoo!
