In search of my body...not the one I ate! Part Deux... We sit at the popular table!

That's right Liz! Good question.

Ok, I haven't had a chance to look at all 50 (50!!!) pages of pictures Stacey -but I had to say I am loving your taste. The blue is beautiful. And the bridesmades dresses with the little bow, perfect. But the best part was the back part of your dress, with the blue piping(?), ohhh, that was classy. And how many of those gals getting ready with you are your sisters?

LYZ--PM or e-mail me the way to get to Stacey's pics. I PMd her, but didn't get the info.

50 minutes on the tm this morning.

You want to faint dead away? Then listen to this...

You worked out more than I did today! :cool1: Goddess crown for you!

One of my nibbles has turned into a bite. Keep your fingers crossed for me Friday from 12:30-1:30. :)

I'm on it! Everything will be crossed and positive vibes headed your way!

Ok, question about exercise. I have read over and over that if you weight train, you should only do so every other day. To give you muscles a day to rebound.

I am not really lifting weights, more like resistance exercising. Using resistance bands and such. Which I really enjoy. But not sure if I need a day in between or not. I'd like to everyday, I am targeting my thighs and arms. But if I'm harming the progress by doing so everyday, I can go every other.

Resistance bands are great! No impact on the joints and they do lots of stretching of the muscles as well as toning. All good.

Kat is right about working different groups. But you want to make sure that you work opposing muscle groups on the same day. For example...you work bis and tris on one day, back and chest on another day, and legs on the third day (quads and hams and glutes, too). Abs, however, you can work everyday if you choose. This is standard for folks who work out 6 days per week...you do each of these twice a week.

But I think that is a bit much to take on right now. I don't think you should commit to 6 days/week since that is a set-up for failure. I think you could realistically do a 40-minute full body work-out (getting in all major muscle groups) 3x per week. If you want more than that, let me know and I can put together a good program. I have tons already in place. (And in my former life I was a trainer, so I do have *some* background here, though it has been a long time!)

Think about what is realistic for you. How many days per week do you see yourself walking on the TM (or walking outside)? Again, be realistic for YOU. And how many days do you see yourself doing strength training?

Start slow...that is far better than going whole hog right from the start. (Sorry, couldn't resist the hog reference! :lmao: )

Hey all - without retyping to everyone - what we spoke about - if Lyz is not in need of it still - how bout the proceeds going to Liz's cancer fundraiser? It still is a great tol to help...and we can just switch recipients??? I am already starting so let me know... :thumbsup2

Sure, I am in!

Bye the way, I was wondering, how long does it take to run 8 miles? And do you just start running, like say from your house and once you reach 4 miles, turn around and run back? Or do you go around and around a subdivision? And how do you know that you hit 4 miles?

I do things a variety of ways. I have routes all over town that I have mapped out and measured in my car so that I know how long they are. For example, when I posted last week that I ran while my kids were at tennis...I just mapped out a route from the courts beforehand. And I now I just know what it is and what the mileage is.

Mostly, though, I just do things by time. I know what my pace is, so I will run for half the amount of time, then turn around and run back. Other routes of mine are loops, but often I do an out-and-back run.

There are also times when I run on the TM, so that is a no-brainer as it keeps time and distance for me.

An 8 mile run takes me about 85 minutes. Not impressive, I know. I am sure that Nancy is rolling her eyes! :lmao: That is more than a 10-minute mile, but I slow down for my long runs like that.

AND LIZ (and anyone else who is running, walking or biking)...here is the best website EVER:

http://www.mapmyrun.com/

It will totally map your run for you. You just put in your zip code, a map of your town comes up (a good detailed one...like from Google Earth) and you point and click on the map where you want to go and it will calculate the mileage for you.

The other feature is that other people from your area have already entered and saved runs on there. So you can find a 5 mile loop or whatever that someone else has already put in there. And there is all kinds of information about the runs as well...like someone will say, "this has lots of hills for the first 2 miles and then is flat for the next mile..." or my favorite comment "at about mile 2, watch out for the big, snarling, drooling dog! Switch to the other side of the street for half a mile!" :lmao:

Lyz, you forgot the most important question: Why would you want to run for 8 miles? :lmao:

One word...EMPOWERMENT!

Seriously, it is one of the most empowering experiences I have ever had. Really.

Me, I'm off to my own learn-to-run tonight. Nick is coming with me. I am going to try the C25K run for a minute walk for 90 secs...I'll let you know how it goes. If I can run for five minutes, that would be an improvement.

We will need all of the details on this. How did Nick do? Is he in enough shape to do this? Did it bug you to have him along? Or did it help? I like to run alone...that is my time to be in my head. Let me know how you did on c25k.

By the way, there is a c25k podcast. I don't love the music they use, but it is good because they keep track of your time. So if you are doing week 1 day 1, they voice over the music and tell you to walk or to run or whatever. It really helps to not have to worry about keeping track of the time yourself. You can subscribe to it on iTunes.

I can't believe it!!!

:goodvibes Ok well, I wasn't doing anything intensive. Like maybe took 5minutes. I don't really have any official moves. I am making them up. (stop laughing).

Maybe you should put something together for me. But nothing that will take too much time. No more than 10 minutes per day. I want to focus on walking on the treadmill and then top that off with toning certain areas. (upper arms, butt and thighs) Once I lose some fat, I realize the weigh training and toning will be much more vital, but for right now, I expect to see results with cardio.

The plan is to walk on the TM daily. "Plan." I realize I'm jumping in the deep end, but if I don't, I'm gonna get the "why bothers."

If you do put something together for me, it has to be specific. Cause I don't know the difference between bi & tri or quad, glutes and hamhock. I no speaka exercisa.

or my favorite comment "at about mile 2, watch out for the big, snarling, drooling dog! Switch to the other side of the street for half a mile!" :lmao:

This is very important.

How do you feel about using DVDs? I have a bunch that have different 10-minute work-outs on them. I can burn them and send them your way. Some people can't work out to DVDs, so if that isn't for you, just say so.

Also, what do you have for cable tv? We have Exercise On Demand. It is part of the digital cable package that we have (we don't have any premium channels...it just comes with basic digital service). You go to the On Demand menu...all of the exercise ones are free Awesome. Love it.

I am thinking these might be better options because they will give you the visual (instead of me trying to explain proper form from typing it all out).

I don't like to exercise to dvd's. But if you have one, lets say with bands, I could watch it and learn and then do on my own.

The only thing I can watch and "do" with is yoga. I love, love, love Inhale with Steve Ross on Oxygen. I randomly do it. It was a faithful thing in 2003 when I lost my original 70lbs. And I have it constantly recording on TIVO, but I haven't gotten back into it. It literally kicks my butt. It's so exhausting.

We don't have an exercise channel. We don't even have a cable box. Just regular old cable. (I know, I'm probably the last home in America without a cable box.)

OMFG. Guess what?

I did the walk/run for 30 minutes. Out of the 30 minutes I jogged for 5, count em, 5, two minute spurts.

I can jog for 2 mins at a time without dying. I call this victory!

She is a rock star, that is for sure! :cool1:

Morning! Wakey, wakey! It's a gorgeous day to be a goddess (which we all are!)

LYZ—yoga is wonderful! Try to get some in until I can get you a dvd on resistance bands. I know I have one around here…just have to dig it out, copy it, and send it to you. It’ll take a few days before you have it in your hands.

One of the things that really helps me with my exercise is being part of the WISH exercise challenge. You will see the thread right near ours on the main WISH page…it is always near the top. Here is how it works. YOU decide what your goal is for the month. Most of us choose minutes, but some other folks do it a different way (like one guy has a goal of a certain number of miles to run for the month…and one woman has a number of ab crunches for the month) but the point is that you set your own goals. And the great thing is that the range is HUGE. There is no pressure to over-commit. The ranges are from something like….150 minutes (this for an entire month, remember) up to 1800+ minutes.

Go ahead and look at the July exercise challenge thread. Or scroll down a bit and look at the JUNE one since that is already complete. You can see that many of us complete and exceed our goals and others don't quite get there. And it's all ok.

This totally works for me. I love updating my minutes every day and seeing the number get bigger and closer to goal. It also makes me exercise when I don’t feel like (or go a little longer if I feel stopping). I just think about making those minutes add up!

The other thing that Vern does (she is our challenge leader) is that she updates everyone’s progress each month. So when you get to, say, 25% of your goal, your name gets highlighted in green. When you get to 50% your name changes to red and so on. It is really trivial and petty, I know, but I love it when I get to the next color!

Even though we are well into the month, anyone can still join. Just a thought. You see, I am a joiner. If I can be part of a group, a team, a challenge, a whatever…it totally works for me. (Are you surprised? I am all about the social thing! :lmao: ) That is also why I like being on the WISH Racing Team and on Walt’s Warriors. Being accountable in all of those ways…plus having all of those different support systems…makes all the difference for me.

We don't have an exercise channel. We don't even have a cable box. Just regular old cable. (I know, I'm probably the last home in America without a cable box.)

Nope.. you're not the only one... I'm right there with ya...

OMFG. Guess what?

I did the walk/run for 30 minutes. Out of the 30 minutes I jogged for 5, count em, 5, two minute spurts.

I can jog for 2 mins at a time without dying. I call this victory!

Awesome job!!!! You go girl!!!!!

All this exercise talk has me excited about starting my class tonight. I'll report back with the results... I promise... I did a quick 15 minute mile around the Empire State Plaza (the plaza that all of the state office buildings and the Capitol are on - kind of like a smaller version of the Mall in DC) yesterday at lunch and am hoping to get that in every day at lunch now that the weather is good. I'm telling you... exercise is good and I never thought I would be saying that...

Have a good day everyone,
Paula

WOW! You gals were busy, busy last night! :goodvibes

One of my nibbles has turned into a bite. Keep your fingers crossed for me Friday from 12:30-1:30. :)

Yeah!!! :thumbsup2 We'll all be pullin' for you!!

Quick post now...longer one later this evening. (Lyz...coming up with a training plan for you...no, don't worry! It will be fair and fun and doable! :goodvibes )

Oh God! :scared: I'd be scared if I were you!! :rotfl:

Lyz, you forgot the most important question: Why would you want to run for 8 miles? :lmao:

ummm...is to prove I can a good enough answer? :confused3 (no, I'm not competitive...not at all! :rolleyes1

You want to faint dead away? Then listen to this...

You worked out more than I did today! :cool1: Goddess crown for you!

me too....yesterday my "exercise" consisted of weeding the garden (slowly, as it was sooooo hot and humid here) then downing a bottle of wine...- gonna pay for THAT one on my bike ride today! :scared:

I do things a variety of ways. I have routes all over town that I have mapped out and measured in my car so that I know how long they are. For example, when I posted last week that I ran while my kids were at tennis...I just mapped out a route from the courts beforehand. And I now I just know what it is and what the mileage is.

I have a Microsoft Maps software that I use for planning routes - it's way cool...

An 8 mile run takes me about 85 minutes. Not impressive, I know. I am sure that Nancy is rolling her eyes! :lmao: That is more than a 10-minute mile, but I slow down for my long runs like that.

Ok - I didn't exactly "roll my eyes"... hey - the way I see it, the longer I exercise the more calories I burn, right? So if speedy mc' speedster runs 8 miles in an hour, and I run it in say and hour and 15 minutes...I've worked HARDER and LONGER, no? (ok - again...not at ALL competitive here :rotfl: )

AND LIZ (and anyone else who is running, walking or biking)...here is the best website EVER:

never heard of that one! I'm going to check it out!

I can jog for 2 mins at a time without dying. I call this victory!

I call that a victory too. Nice job! :thumbsup2

Ok - better plan my ride route before DH is ready to go....have a good day all!!

So Good morning Ladies! And Dan if your are reading!

I am on the first official day on my VACATION! I think we are going to the beach for the day! I don't think we are going to travel to far this week, we may how ever take day trips to the Enchanted Forrest and Water Safari which is in Old Forge Ny and maybe another day trip to 6 flags in Lake George! High falls gorge is another place I looked at. Maybe we will go to Montreal and go to La Ron! I actually think that is 6 flags Montreal. Most of these places are at the most three hours from home. I would really like to get home to boston too but I am to cheap to stay in a hotel and there is no room in the house for 6 of us!
If we do go anywhere to stay for a few days it won't be until Tuesday the 15 we have to have something for Sam's 14 Birthday and then zac has a dentist appointment on the 15 in the morning.

I know they are having the mayors cup race this weekend So there are a bunch of festivities that they will have in plattsburgh
.

~~Ok so I almost divorced my husband last night! ~~
The other night when we were all talking and I was drinking I took my wedding rings off and put them on my computer desk. I went all night and the next day not wearing them. I didn't realize that I didn't have them on until one of the new guys at work looked at my hand and started flirting! I looked down and NO rings!:scared1: I started looking through the trash because it is cold in the lab and rings are getting pretty loose. I called home no answer I called Steph's cell and of course he isn't home. So I tell him please go home and look on my desk and see if they are there. Mean while I am still looking through the trash... mind you I work in a lab trash is pretty gross. I went through 4 huge boxes of trash YUCK! I say they must be home ... my heart is still in my chest. Finally steph calls at quarter to eight and tells me that they aren't on my desk. He said he checked the bathroom the bed room etc...He can't find them! Then he started yelling at me on How can I not know they aren't on my fingers! I have had them on for 14 years! Exactly I said they still feel like they are on! He said he didn't know what had gotten into me ... why was I taking my rings off.. Now I am almost crying! Not because he is yelling at me but because my rings are gone! I thought he was joking so I yelled back! I told him to stop being a jerk and just tell me he has them and that he is pulling my leg. Nope he swears that he doesn't have them. The other line rings so I had to go. I start searching all the trash again. Going through all the gloves searching the bottom of the boxes, again YUCK factor here. Five minutes later the phone rings and now I am in tears. I answer the phone and it's Sam my daughter saying daddy wants to talk to you! I say WHAT DO YOU WANT! I'm busy trying to find my rings and WORKING. He says with no laughter I found them they were on your desk but under the keyboard! I told him that he was a jerk and that I had been flipping out all afternoon looking for them. I said how could you do that to me .. He said I just found them honestly(liar)! I told him he was a liar and he said what would have you done if I could have found them... I said NOTHING you would have had to buy me a NEW MORE EXPENSIVE SET! I was so mad! I may just not talk to him when he gets home today! :lmao: I may hold out on exercise! well maybe not!:rolleyes1

Hope everyone has a great day!

;) Hi all - great day abounds!

Last night Baylor and Treyner had soccer games in Wis - about 1 1/2 hours away - Baylor at 6 Treyner at 8 - so got to see both and to have them on the same night and not have to drive twice was awesome!

Baylor lost - unfortunatley no surprise - he himself palyed well thoug and I love watching him -

Treyner won - very nice - he played goal for the first 1/2 and then forward for the second - he does a front handspring throw in a lot when he has the chance to come out - lot's of velocity and can cler the field - and had an assist on a goal! He is happy with himself...

Then...coming home..we hit deer carcaas - fresh - like hit right in front of us with nowhere to go - and I think we got away with no damage - but man did it smell - we washed it out at midnight when we finally got home - the undercarrage was disgusting...

I am having a garage sale tom..and Sat...pray for big money please...

Treyner has a full load of Soccer and camp in Durango Co and then we go to Muscatine Iowa for a showcase the 1st weekend in August...so I will be on the road a lot and did I mention Baylor and Carsyn have districts all at the same time as well...

There is something called the Schwanns Cup tourney here next wek - teams from all over the world come - they have an oening ceremonies and everything like the Olympics...I will have to see if I can get some pics for you all - Scottland, Mexico. China etc...it is the biggest tourney this side of the equator in the world....it is a madhouse and Treyner is excited for the dance because he is single this year - and the girls team from Sweden is making a comback again ! ;)

Last year his team got to carry in this huge American Flag - representing all the teams from the US - it was not the Olympics - but I bawled like no other - there is a great pic of Treyner - carrying the flag - you see his back - he is in the front corner - and I need to get it out now that I am thinking of it - for his senior pics - I will try and put a post of it here...

Carsyn and I weigh in tonight at WW...I did pretty well the last few days - you do need groceries in the house for success - and I am there finally...she is being good about it as well - has a mini goal for her B-day in August too...

I am thinking of the Couch 2 5k myself - I may die but it is worth a try...

Next week ....

EriKa and Liz - can you send me your info please so I can get you the Tupp packets - I need to close it out in a few weeks so let's get started! I am so excited to get Liz her MONEY!!!

Paula--I love your plan to walk a mile every day at lunch! You go!

Nancy--you and I are so totally on the same page! I tell Jeff (who runs at a 7:15 pace) that I had a better run than he did cause I ran a lot LONGER than he did. :rotfl2:

So today I did a duathalon! My own little made up one...nothing real where anyone could see me or anything! :scared1: I ran for 4 miles and then immediately biked for 15. My a$$ and hips are sore. But that is a lot of consecutive cardio for one day, so I am giving myself a goddess crown for the day! :goodvibes

STEPH
--I would definitely not find that to be funny. Sorry you had to go through all of that stress.

The other night when we were all talking and I was drinking I took my wedding rings off and put them on my computer desk. I went all night and the next day not wearing them. I didn't realize that I didn't have them on until one of the new guys at work looked at my hand and started flirting! I looked down and NO rings!:scared1:

I actually DID lose my wedding band (it was a diamond anniversary band)...In the ocean. Gone. Flew right off my finger when I was playing catch with my nephew. Thankfully I hadn't been wearing my engagement ring at the time. I had taken that off because it needed repair - I had mashed the back-side of the ring flat from all the weight lifting I was doing. (shocker, I know! ;) ) I ended up getting a new diamond anniversary band finally...but more often than not I don't wear my rings anyway. My hands are always in places that rings just don't belong :scared1:  (I mean the FOOD that I work with!!! )

Have a good weigh-in! You can DEFINITELY do the whole running thing. I KNOW you can. It's just a matter of telling yourself that you can...:goodvibes

So - I'm back from my bike ride - 22.5 miles today...rode with my friend who is a MACHINE! Holy cow, she's awesome! I haven't riden with her in about 6 weeks or so - and she totally kicked my butt!!! :worship: :worship: According to my heart rate monitor, it took us just short of 90 minutes - and I burned 1008 calories. Yes, that's right 1008. :woohoo: Now....if I can just keep from eating everything in sight today...oh yeah...and not drink an entire bottle of wine again tonight, I'll be doing ok!!! :goodvibes

Lyz...do I need to say it? Log on....

Ok. I had to sleep last night. If the plan is to tm in the morning, my AIM time is probably gonna take a hit.

I did the walk/run for 30 minutes. Out of the 30 minutes I jogged for 5, count em, 5, two minute spurts.

I can jog for 2 mins at a time without dying. I call this victory!

Go Liz. Go Liz. It's Your Birthday.

I know I have one around here…just have to dig it out, copy it, and send it to you. It’ll take a few days before you have it in your hands.

Thank you.

And I will check out the thread. I am tracking everything I do. My weight each day (of which I am seeing results), everything I eat: including calories and points if they are easily known, and my exercise. So it shouldn't be hard at all to catch up there.

I started doing this on July 1. I am watching what I eat, but not hard core yet. Just trying to stay under my BMR level.

That sounds like an interesting walk.

~~Ok so I almost divorced my husband last night! ~~

Yeah, that is NOT a joking matter. He's a butt. Enjoy your vaykay.

Nancy - I'm pretty sure that's not how exercise works. LOL

Not much time from me today. I'm on a roll at work and need to roll with it.

Hi gang! I am NOT up bright and early today. I am still recovering from my late nights!

Erika- the website is so cool! I love it! I also found the local running club, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Baby steps! Oh, and for your duathalon :worship:

Paula - that is an awesome plan! And I agree, some exercise can be great, you feel like you did something. It's the ones that try to kill me that I balk at! :lmao:

Steph - super scary about the rings!!! Although I think your husband was kind of funny. I totally would have lied to Nick and let him panic. I'm mean that way.

Nancy - I knew a guy who lost his wedding band in the ocean on his honeymoon! Can you imagine? Great job on the 22 miles!!! :worship:

Dawn -let us know how WW goes! Yeah, you totally need to grocery shop well to make it work. but you get used to it. It's old hat to me now.

So, who else is in? 15 lbs by 9/15? (or whatever day you weigh in) Or pick your own goal!
