That is right...NO video games. I am totally the mean mom.

And you are right...that is unheard of. Riley complained earlier in the school year that he was the *only* kid in his whole class without one. I said the typical mom response, "I am sure it feels like that honey, but you are not the only one..." So the next week I was volunteering in his class and I had to work with each kid individually. So I asked each one about video games. And YES, my kid really IS the only one without a game system!
But on this, Jeff and I refuse to cave. One of the things that makes us most proud as parents is our kids' ability to play independently and creatively. They get home from school, have a quick snack, change into play clothes and then BOOM--they are outside playing until dinner. And they have the most fun out there...they make up the craziest games...but this is what they SHOULD be doing, kwim? I so often see kids who can't get by unless (1) they are plugged into to something or (2) someone has planned and is running some activity for them to participate in.
*stepping down off of my soap box*
Now, I admit that my kids DO get plugged in. They all have iPods and have since they were 3!

Yeah, I was way ahead of the curve on that one. And other parents used to give me so much crap about it...but I explained, "um, 3 year olds and CDs....not a good mix." And now, everyone is on board. See? I am a trend setter!

And we when are on long car trips or on the plane, then they get mine and Jeff's video iPods, which are loaded with kid movies. So we are not anti-tech stuff, just anti-video games. (And Lyz...they are allowed to play the games in Webkinz World and Toon Town, so I am not THAT mean...

)
Will respond to everyone shortly. Have to get ready for my killer Tuesday work-out.
