In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

Hey welcome Zig. :flower3: Jump right on. I've missed your name. Help me.

I hate to even bring it up, since I know I'm just adding to the confusion.....but it's Lisa, too. :rotfl: According to my mom, everybody named their kid Lisa after a character on Days of Our Lives.

I did a komen race in october. Seeing all the survivors in their pink shirts and all the people doing the race in honor of someone was SO SO moving. I plan to keep it on my schedule every year! Signing up for races IS what keeps me on track exercise wise. It works for me.

My husband and daughter did the Komen walk with me in DC last year, and I agree....it's amazing to be there. We're planning to do it again this June.

Well, as predicted, my class was canceled last night. I love how the rec center calls everybody in my class to tell them, but doesn't call me!! But I sucked it up, and did a step tape in my basement -- Petra Kolber, I just love her (and she's also a breast cancer survivor).

I was the first one here this morning -- schools are closed again due to the snow and ice. As a transplant from the west coast, I figure I'm the only one dumb enough to go out in this mess. :goodvibes

me too. We're in for snow changing to sleet/freezing rain. :sad1: bah.

Saw what you all are getting..missed us...and I want just one good snowstorm...

Curling? Really? That's, uh, interesting? :confused3 I've never done that either. Isn't it kinda like shuffleboard on ice? Or am I thinking of the wrong thing
Yup...love me some curling...

SO - Biggest Loser. I hate that Dan got voted off. But I was so glad to see that he's lost over 100 lbs so far. Such an inspiration, ya know? His friend there (Dave, I think?) wasn't a whole heck of a lot of help, was he:mad:

We were actually hoping for a twist at the vote, and that everyone would vote for a "combo" and take out Dave & Ron, and leave the 2 boys. Wonder if they would allow that?
Think you need to write in to the show and offer some suggestions...maybe a new job for you is on the horizon.:cheer2: ..

Food: 30 points. A little on the high side, but my workout left me very hungry today. Honest hunger. And they were all "good" points, so I feel like I did ok Great job...

Wine: still none. Although I discovered a forgotten bottle of really nice cabernet in my pantry (unopened, thankfully. So while it may be trying to call to me, it's voice is muffled by that cork :lmao: ) I had tucked it away before Christmas, because I was saving it for New Year's Eve, and forgot about it!
Literally...stuff a cork in it!:rotfl2: You crack me up...

And one last thought for tonight. Did you see the lady on the news today who gave birth to octuplets? Holy crap. Can you even imagine? :scared:
That is amazing...it made me smile after the mass family suicide in CA...so sad...
Wow, you guys went to bed early!

Wakey wakey!

It's a snow day here. I have to call the other parents to tell them not to send their kids to school. At 5:50am I got called. Isn't it wrong to call people so early? Egads. Like call me, fine, but the rest of them could sleep, no?

So up and at 'em campers!

What a good mama...

LisaV - glad you are back to posting...you make me smile and laugh all the time...

Kat - I picture you on your journey around WDW...and it is helping warm me up here in the tundra...

Hi to all else..hope you stay safe in the driving in ice and snow....:flower3:

BTW:
Thought of you guys last nght when reading this in the newspaper...Here are some pointers from it.

Title was:
You Are What You Eat...

#1 Shop on the outside walls of the grocery store only...fruit, veggies, dairy and meat...not all the proccessed stuff in the middle

#2 Avoid foods with Corn Syrup, high fructose corn syrup or sugar as the first three ingredients in any food label...(are we not supposed to avoid high fructose corn syrup all together though?)

#3 She went on the internet and found a site listing the 20 worst products to eat...
Marie Callendar's Creamy Parmesean Chik Pot Pie...says it serves 2 but who splits a pot pie? 1060 calories and 1440 mg of sodium. This is equal to 23 strips of bacon in fat and salt content!

Site had a list of 10 healthy grocery stores...in midwest only Super Target, Whole Foods and Trader Joes counted. These stores had products including more junk food items without all the processed chemicals.

Talked about low fat foods often have increased sugar to ofset flavor which is bad for diabetics. Low sugar often has more fat.

Anyway...again...really trying to change some drastic things in this house and my life...so thought whatever I can pass on I will...

E - you are right...this is actually turning into a weight loss thread! :crazy2:

Update on Treyner...

Should find out today on Fort Lewis...if it is a no go...than he is heading to Dana College on a full ride...

It seems crazy that we are all hopefull for a college that will cost him more money than one who is a guarantee and free...but it is the best of the two...and the money should be there his sophmore year on...

He is anxious...and crabby...and I just want this over...Then on to finish Financial aid paperwork before the year 2017...::yes:: yuck!

Nancy - Congrats on resisting the wine.

are you taking exercise cues from me? whoa - I truly am on the dark side now.... :rotfl2:

I was doing a hill course, and on the flats I thought of you and your speed intervals. So I did some. Kicked my butt, you did. :thumbsup2

Well Nancy. I must admit I have no idea why I highlighted here. :rotfl: :lmao: Surely I didn't want to discuss syrup with you. :rotfl: :lmao:

I missed you Nancy.

What? You don't want to talk about syrup with me? :confused3 Should my feelings be hurt by that :rotfl2:

I've missed you too. It's so great to have you here.

It's a snow day here. I have to call the other parents to tell them not to send their kids to school. At 5:50am I got called. Isn't it wrong to call people so early? Egads. Like call me, fine, but the rest of them could sleep, no?

So up and at 'em campers!

Are you kidding me? They call you at some God-awful hour, and expect you to call other people? I would hurt someone  We either see it on the tv listings, or you can sign up for email alerts, or text messages. No phone calls for us.

Our schools are closed as well. Snowing pretty steadily. We are only supposed to get 4-6" I think, but it's to be followed by ice. Snow I can deal with. Ice, not so much.

Food totals from yesterday....

Thank you for posting that. And I didn't even have to ask! :goodvibes

Your heart rate was pretty high, but because each individual is different, I'm not going to try to guess what is ok and where the "too high" level is for anyone. I personally think you did the right thing. Getting dizzy and/or lightheaded is your bodies way of telling you to back off a bit. Listen to your body in that regard. If you continue to work the plan that you have set out for yourself will find that it gets progressively easier (or at the very least, less uncomfortable ;) )

Today will be an "at home" workout day. I'll probably hit the TM for 30 minutes or so- and if all goes well, a bit of hip-hop dvd :scared1:

Actually. I'm putting "hip hop dvd" on my list of things to do today. Livin' by the list right now, or else I'll never be able to muddle thru all that needs to get done.:crazy2: (thanks Liz!)

I hate to even bring it up, since I know I'm just adding to the confusion.....but it's Lisa, too. :rotfl: According to my mom, everybody named their kid Lisa after a character on Days of Our Lives.

:faint:

:lmao: well. I think this is becoming the "hello my name is Lisa thread". Well, Lisa. Welcome.

Yes! LisaZ it is! Perfect.

I can actually SEE my loss. I am super excited about it. :cool1:

Heading out in the snow now, before it gets too bad. To the gym...with all three kids. It's going to be ugly and I may only get half an hour in, but it is something and I can do the rest at home.

And then a haircut. Again with all three kids. Good times.

Erika - you lost??? Really? Tell us more!!!

Nancy - Catholic school. We do phone chains. It's not your fancy public's with all your high falutin messages! ;)

LisaZ- welcome!

Dawn - C25K. okay, E, Lisa PR, Amy, and Nancy might disagree with me here. But here's what I did. I couldn't hack the C25K. Couldn't hack it. So what I did was committed to being on the treadmill, or outside, for 30 mins. I walked to warm up for 5 mins, then I ran as long as I could without dying. Then I went back to walking, and ran again. I posted extensively on this on last spring. I just kept running for intervals until I could run for 10 minutes. Your heart rate monitor is a good tool to make sure you're working, but your body is a better one. Just run until you can't run anymore. Honestly, leave off the HRM. You're not up to that, anyway.

Walk. Run. When you can't run, start walking. Give yourself 2 mins to recover, then run again. Repeat. And track it, in a notebook or something.

Now, when you get good you might start slacking - this is when you HRM works for you, to keep you heart rate in zones. But now, you're in the zone if you're moving.

We do not have voice but our parochial (sp?)schools and public are on the tv scrolls...different places have diffeent rules I guess..

You actually are what geared my thought proccess to that mentality...I remember you saying you ran a bit farther each time...building...

so I felt better...not such a faliure cause look at your success....I kept saying in my head..."I want Liz's body...I want that body"...I know you did not loose it all from excersize...but you have posted the pics of before and after so well that you are my motivation...thanks...

AAAAAANNNNDDDD...

Fort Lewis just called...we have a SkyHawk! I am off to bring a balloon boquet to school saying.... Fort Lewis or Bust....on the card....he is going to just die!
I am so proud of him and so excited....:cheer2: :cheer2:

quick post here - but promise to comment on all the other ones later...

Dawn - what did you eat before your workout? If I don't have the right fuel in me before a workout, I get the most wicked blood pressure induced headaches. You need to eat a healthy mix of whole grains, protein and some veggies before you workout. If you don't your body is basically going to start feeding off of your muscle and that ain't good.

As for the heart rate, you have to listen to your body. None of us are really qualified to tell you what is right or wrong. Perhaps you should ask someone at the gym. Speaking of listening to your body, make sure you pay attention to your knees. Remember, you are carrying some extra weight on them and you want to be sure you are not overstressing them. There is a reason I do my cardio on the bike - no stress on my knees. Not to discount the runners, but running is brutal on your joints if you are not careful. My doctor's orders are to not do anything high impact until I lose weight and get stronger. Don't want to risk blowing out my knees at age 37. Just something to think about.

Dawn: I've never worn a HRM and maybe that is not a good thing, but I just always just went by how I felt. And that worked for me. And still does. If the 60/90 intervals in week 1 are difficult right now, maybe try 30/90 to start. or try what Liz suggested, and just keep track of what you did.

And FWIW, I was probably in the upper 220's when I started C25K the first time, but I had been doing walking a few times a week, probably for at least a month before even attempting to jog or run.

Erika-When do you weigh in??

Colour me stupid, but does this mean hes in?

If so then :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1:

Paula - great advice.

Dawn - great news about Treynor.

Schools - just to clarify, we have TV stations and radio stations and all that. But we are NYC metro area, so it all comes from there. Yes, we have a few local, county, radio stations and one NJ TV station, but it's only on certain cable carriers. So imagine how many schools you have to scroll through on TV to get to one of the 15 or so in Red Bank, NJ. Hundreds of thousands. Same thing with school closing on the radio. Unless you listen to a station in the county, and they still have tons to go through. Local media here means NYC.

We send an email to anyone who subscribes for email, but still, in case of closing or emergency, the phone chain is activated. I can't believe no one else does this - all the Catholic schools here do. We also call so early so in case you are heading out at 6am, you know. I would say for this school, because it draws from many towns, there is at least 50% NYC commuters (or like Nick, take the train to right outside NYC) and the earliest bus pick up is like 6:20am. People, not me of course, are sadly up at 6am. Or earlier. Nick leaves by 6:15 every day.

Now, preschool isn't until 8:30am, but we are treated like part of the school. This is really the job of class moms - to contact parents ICE. We get volunteer credits and everything towards tuition for this. Also, next year I have to volunteer or I pay more in tuition. This year, it's just out of the goodness of my heart. Stop laughing. :lmao:

30 minutes TM run - check
30 minutes hip-hop dvd - check

:cool1:

And I will say - that doing the dancing immediately after I ran was great for me. My body was already warmed up, my heart pumping and DD & I were dancin' fools :rotfl2: Yep. We were totally ridiculous, but we didn't care.

Yes! LisaZ it is! Perfect.

Leeeza :goodvibes sounds so exotic :rotfl2:

I can actually SEE my loss. I am super excited about it. :cool1:

:woohoo: you're hard work is payin' off!! So exciting. :cheer2:

Nancy - Catholic school. We do phone chains. It's not your fancy public's with all your high falutin messages! ;)

ah. Well, I give you a lot of credit for being the one who has to call folks at some crazy time in the morning.

Dawn - C25K. okay, E, Lisa PR, Amy, and Nancy might disagree with me here. But here's what I did. I couldn't hack the C25K. Couldn't hack it. I don't disagree with you at all. I think that the approach you took was excellent. Everyone is different, so a cookie cutter plan isn't always the best option. I'm not knocking the C25K plan, or any other training plan at ALL. I just think that it's important to figure out our own individual needs are and tailor the plans to fit them, kwim? :confused3

Another very valid point! Again, in my mind it comes back down to individual needs and makin' it work for you.::yes::

Off to shower and cross more items off my list.

Kat - Hope you are having an outstanding day at WDW.

Nancy..C25K=DONE!

Think I managed 2.3 miles in 30 minutes, and that includes 10 minutes of my warm up/cool down. I hit the 2 mile mark at around 24 minutes, which means my 2nd mile was sub 12. Sweet! It felt so good to have my running legs back. I ran at 6.0-6.1 and actually jogged 2/3 of the walking intervals at 4.8. It actually felt better to do it that way. My ipod froze halfway through and could not remember the ctrl-alt del function for the ipod.

Good point...and the answer is nada...I did not eat anything at all for probably 3 hours before I left for the Y - how much before you work out do you eat?

I think that I will meet with a trainer for a few times at least...I am thinking I will bike today and will let you know how that goes...there is a professional trainer on the radio station right now that I love...he is addressing many things that we are talking about...and he is saying the same thing...if you are at a 0 for excersize...start moving...build the stamina over time...you need to build flexibility and strength in the knees/hips ankles for running if you are carrying tons of extra weight because you have weekened them...the trainer's name is Galen..and I think I will e-mail him for a time to meet...I am worth some money right! I have a new body under all this fat to embrace and it cost money to eat my way here...it will cost a bit to loose it!
The HRM was on the treadmill itself..so not sure how accurate it is...thanks for the advice and support...
And FWIW, I was probably in the upper 220's when I started C25K the first time, but I had been doing walking a few times a week, probably for at least a month before even attempting to jog or run.
K - that maks me feel better too...I am 20 pounds heavier and really...not done anything consistent at all...so anything is a good start for me...
Erika-When do you weigh in??
Yeah...so excited for your results!
Colour me stupid, but does this mean hes in?
Yes...he is in! Droped off 5 mylar balloons and 4 latex ones...making sure he cannot fit them in his locker...want full emarassed look from him the rest of the day!
If so then :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1:
Bought stuff for a Burger celebration dinner..his favorite food...need to make sure I have alloted for it! I can do ground beef, Boca or turkey...keeping my options open...
Dawn - great news about Treynor.
Thanks Liz - Can't wait to see him and give him a big hug!

Thanks for writing that...everything has reasons and where you live affects everything...never thought of the thousands of school districts etc just in the one city...

Yeah - I am learning...and Dan just met with a therapist today...and they are saying..NO running at all for him...walking only 10 minute cycles...biking with no resistance for as long as he wants though...he had knee replacement surgery on his left leg in HS, shattered his left foot in 2005 and had both feet broken to deal with a derormity in his arches as a kid...so his feet and left leg is a mess...and they are saying he needs to strengthen all the above before they will let him progress to walking fast and or ever running...this may change some as he sees an orthopedist in Feb...he was dissapointed because he wanted to do the couch-5K with me...but our goal is the same and o whatever each can do is awesome...

Congrats to Treyner!:thumbsup2

I feel like a huge load has just been lifted...and only to come back in 2 years for Carsyn!:rotfl2:

Kat - Hope you are having an outstanding day at WDW.

I am excited to here more about the trip Kat!

Dang. I didn't even get to pull out my whistle ::cop:

Did you get the ipod straightened out? :confused3

I think that I will meet with a trainer for a few times at least

Sounds like a good idea to me. :thumbsup2

Lots and lots to say....where to begin!

C25K--Ok, I love the program. And I believe in it. But guess what? I didn't follow it. I STARTED with it, but it didn't really fit what I was doing. I quickly realized that I could do more than it was directing me to do that first week. So I decided I would just run for as long as I could, take a walk break, and run some more. Until I hit 3 miles. And then I kept at it until I could run the whole 3.1 miles without stopping. That happened in about Week 5 of C25k.

I am following now, though, with Cammime. But we started in about Week 4 because that is where she was at. And if we have to backtrack, we will.

If you are significantly overweight, then I would not run without checking with a doctor. You don't want to have to get a new set of knees.

As someone said...Paula? Liz? One of these brilliant babes...find what will work for you and do THAT. For those starting a running program, why are choosing to run? I had specific reasons for wanting to run. And those are still my reasons today. But it isn't the right choice for everyone. And if it isn't the right choice for you, you won't end up sticking with it.

My friend Kate rollerblades for this reason. She just loves it. She doesn't run, bike, or swim. But she'll blade for hours. Sometimes you have to think out of the box like that.

Ok, on to other comments--

Nancy and Amy--way to go on the workouts today! It is a struggle for me since I have the kids around all day today. Looks like I will have to try again later tonight when J can watch them. I just hope the gym stays open and doesn't close early due to the snow.

Snow update - currenlty at about 5" and just now starting to come down hard. We're gonna get the full 15". Maybe 20". LisaPR--what's it like up where you are?

On my loss--I am planning on weighing on Friday for the end of the challenge. I don't like to weigh in, as we all know. And it is really more than the fear of the scale...it just isn't good for me. No other way to say it than that. But I can visually SEE the loss. I am smaller. And my clothese are back to fitting well as opposed to being too tight from 2 months of vacationing and holidays.

DAWN--happy to hear about Treyner's news! But I am confused...thought we knew this back when he had his Skyhawks cake for his birthday? And you just found out today? And they called? Wow. That is good service. We just send out letters. Either the thick envelope or the thin one. I am surprised they even told you since he is over 18. That is against the Privacy Act. I can't tell a parent a single thing about his/her kid...even when that parent is footing the bill, etc. Against the law and all that. Still...AWESOME that he gets to go to his first choice!!!

In other news...I am sick of winter. Sick of it. I miss my ocean. BUT...we are heading to the Caribbean in 4 months, so I am getting my SCUBA gear out. Just to look at it and daydream about diving. And see what I want to replace before the spring, etc. It is a good time to start looking for that stuff on eBay...since it isn't high season, there won't be a lot of bidders, etc. So at least I can pretend that SCUBA season is almost here!

Paula I loved your line, "All is good and my confidence is growing.". Seriously, pretty well made me cry. So inspiring and so happy for you. :flower3:

Thanks Lisa... :goodvibes I have some pretty cool people to draw strength from here and you are one of them.

Yeah, he did. He also sent me a few tonight too because he doesn't have electricity tonight. Call me out on it, lol. But I am still not convinced.:sad2:

Good night everybody!

Amiee, I totally understand your conservative approach to this. I have one of these types of friends and I just don't see anything happening. Although, from time to time, he does things that make me wonder. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

I hate to even bring it up, since I know I'm just adding to the confusion.....but it's Lisa, too. :rotfl:

LisaV.... love it another Lisa (and a name to go with the profile)

Good times.

Whoo Hoo!!! :cool1: Can't wait to hear the results on Friday. This is a hard fought loss. So proud of you.

Nancy..C25K=DONE!

Whoo Hoo!!!!

Sounds like you are on the right track. I won't lie to you, training sessions aren't cheap. They cost some major bucks. I don't have kids to put through college so the only one sacrificing.

I usually eat about an hour before I work out. I also start hydrating too, but not too much water - maybe 16 - 20 oz. max. When I eat, I am looking for rice or pasta with chicken (or other lean protein), steamed veggies and maybe a salad w/ oil and vinegar. Really, I am looking for the whole grain good carbs and some good lean protein more than anything. When I get home, I'll have some fat free cottage cheese or an egg beater or two depending on how hungry I am. Of course, I plan my meals to account for this.

SCUBA???? Forgot that whole ocean connection thing. Of course the idea of me in a wetsuit is truly terrifying... :rotfl2:

:wave2: to everyone else. I am off to shovel snow. I'll check in later.

Kat - Hope you are having an outstanding day at WDW.

Thanks! Today we got up early (;) ) and were at the bus stop for MK at around 10:15. Waited about 15 min and said whatever, walked into Epcot, ate lunch at Sunshine Season Fare, then took the monorail to MK and got there around noon. Did PoC, Splash, Big Thunder, HM, SM, Buzz, TTA, and then took the monorail back to Epcot at about 2:30. Didn't stop walking until butt hit seat on ANY ride. Got some fries in England and are back here for a few min and are about to head to the pool.

I agree with E. You have to find what works for *you*. Wanting someone else's body, or exercise level, is just setting yourself up for failure. You have to decide what you want YOU to look like, and what exercise plan and diet and routine best fits YOUR lifestyle.

Like, I love E, Nancy, and Liz but I can't be them. I will never be runner-girl health guru like E or Nancy, or spin-girl like Liz. I hate spin, and I run more than a mile and my ankles hurt. Instead, I find my own way... kickboxing, hockey, things that interest me. Look at Paula, she is finding her own way too. Pool, trainer, biking.
