In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

So much that I wanted to respond to - it was waaaayyy to long of a post! :scared:

Back from the gym...had a training session this morning. It was a bit of a different approach today - it was all about control. Slow, controlled movements of shorter sets but with heavier weights. A bit on the "easier" side in that we didn't do any cardio bursts in between. Felt really good. Then I ended it off with a 30 min. bike ride. :thumbsup2

Dawn- thank you for posting your food intake. You asked me to hold you accountable, and as the "self appointed accountability officer" I'd be happy to do that as long as you want me to. But. As Liz has so wonderfully said, this has to be about YOU - for you, by you and because you want to.

You're right. There were a lot of "options" that you didn't choose. Things that would have made it harder for you to NOT go back and do that C25K workout. That's behind you - now move forward. What are your choices going to be today? And where are they going to take you?

As for TM running vs. outdoors? I'm totally a fair-weather runner. If it's cold? I'm inside. But that's a personal choice. The one that is right for you is the one that you'll actually DO.

Liz- Beautiful post. Loved it. Glad to have you back. :goodvibes

Erika - So sorry about the broken finger. The childish part of me is hoping it's the middle - so you can show people :rotfl:

I admire, and even envy, that you are able to do what you do for your dad. Perhaps a minor glitch in your day, change of plans, etc...but it is such a meaningful thing. Really.

Lyz and Lisa V - Come back! I miss you. Hope all is well with you guys. :grouphug:

Paula - new sticky on my computer....next to Amy's. "Paula - measurements @ JC". Got your back to, baby :thumbsup2

Amy - sticky still there for you - "wed & Fri" added ;) Inspector Gadget arms cracks me up!

Amiee - Please oh PLEASE keep the weather there. Take one for the team, would ya? :confused3 Seriously -be careful out there. Just because you have a mechanic "friend" doesn't mean you want to have to call him 'cause you ended up in a ditch :sad2:

Stacey - Hi! :wave2: Was nice to hear from you again!

Steph - sorry to hear about those 3 nasty pounds (Kelly what is that...like...1/4 stone? :confused3 ...sounds better that way). I'm sure they'll fall right back off as soon as you regain your focus.

Kat - WAAAAHHH  I wanna be at WDW. :rotfl: Love hearing your updates! Living vicariously thru you right now (no pressure or anything) ;)

LisaPR, Kelly, all the newbies (and anyone I've inadvertantly missed) - hope you are having a fabulous day.

I want to push myself but not hurt myself ya know?

Realistic goals...

Did someone say personal trainer???? :listen:

Couch to 5K is designed to get you running a 5K but it can be adapted in lots of ways. You can walk and then walk faster for the intervals if you want. You can also do it on an elliptical though if you really want to do a 5K, the foot miles do matter.

Here is my take on what you described and how I would torture you if I were there in person. You NEED to do half of your intervals in a jog mode at the 4.0. If you are walking at a 2.0 then the first one go to a fast walk for the interval and then back to 2.0, the second up to 4.0 and on and on until you finish. See if this works better for you. The idea is not to beat you down but to build you up. I am having Shelby do 5.0 for the walk (she is in a slow jog at that speed) and 7.0 for the intervals (run for her) and she likes it better than the walk/run combination. Do what works for you to get you through the program without feeling defeated!!

K, gone again.....pixiedust:

Lisa - you just cracked me up. *pop* I'm here...*pop* I'm out! pixiedust:

Dawn - I think Lisa's advice is, as we've come to expect (no pressure to you either Lisa! ;) ) is PERFECT. Push yourself, but not to the point of injury. Push out of your comfort zone though.

LIZ! I love you for that post. Really. Ok, I love you for a lot of reasons, but that post was excellent.

YES, it is all about honesty. Excuses are bull sh*t. If you are ready to do it, then do it. I love that Steph said her head isn't it. She owned that completely. And LisaV is like the most honest person on the planet, I swear.

One thing I hear ALL THE TIME is "Well, I would be in thin and in great shape too if I had 90 minutes a day to work out, but I just don't have that kind of time." YES, the time is there. Just like anything else, you have to DECIDE to make it a priority. I am busier than just about anyone I know. Not saying this to brag. This is MY honesty. And I make time to workout. I MAKE time. I don't FIND the time. That means, sometimes, that other things have to go. TV? Don't need to watch it. House? Some days it doesn't get cleaned. Oh well. Getting fit is a priority for me over keeping the house clean.

Also, for those who are having a hard time getting started working out...STOP "planning" and START "doing." You can read and research and make all the charts you want. But none of that is going to burn calories. Get up, put on a pair of sneakers, and go for a walk. And WHILE you are walking, think about your plan and what you want to do for your routine. But get up. Move. Do. Go.

Note: this is not to say that I am not a fan of star charts or other things. But don't spend hours reading or charting and then complain that you don't have time to workout.

Now, that might not be everyone's priority and that is just fine! It really is! But be HONEST about it. Like, yes I could have worked out today but I CHOSE to clean my house instead. Or go shopping. Or sit on the couch and watch tv. It is all a CHOICE.

So, excuses are out. Choices are in. Own your choices.

Apparently today is accountability day, who knew? Or is it Channel Jillian Michaels Day? :rotfl2:

And Liz, why can't I come and drink with you and Amy and talk about Twilight?! You don't love me anymore?

Kat--glad you are loving life in the World.

Lyz--still miss you.

Ok, getting ready to head out for a run. With a cold, in the cold. But I am feeling better. Tomorrow I will likely be snowbound, so I am not sure what I will get in for cardio other than snowshoeing, so I HAVE to run today.

On TM speeds...

Certainly, don't hurt yourself. But you do have to move beyond your comfort zone. The faster speeds should be WORK. Not just slightly uncomfortable.

If it helps anyone, here are my paces: (and I am 5'2" with squatty short little legs :rotfl2: )--

--My warm-up pace is 3.7.
--My walking pace is 4.0.
--My easy run pace is 5.4 - 5.6
--My tempo pace is 6.2.

Now, I *can* do bursts faster, up to 8.0. But these are the paces I can maintain for a duration of time.

Try lengthening your stride...maybe you are taking steps that are too short, get more for each stride.

Ok, time to wrap it up here and drive dad back home. And thanks for that Nancy. I needed to hear it. :goodvibes

Boy, this thread moves along FAST.....:)

I like all the talk of accountability and owning your own successes (and failures too).

I dusted off my old school Kathy Smith VHS step tape last night and had at it, in the privacy of my own basement. Even though the outfits are hilarious, the workouts are still good, and I try to do them at least once or twice a week. :upsidedow

Tuesday and Thursday nights, I teach an aerobics/toning class at our local community center. Since it's snowing today (and they've canceled schools all across the state), I'm not sure we're on for tonight. If not, I'll have to come up with a plan B. I absolutely love my class, they're like family, and it gives me instant accountability for my own fitness every week (which is a very good thing!) :lmao:

Food was good yesterday, and I'm on track today so far, so it's looking good.

Hope all of you are bundled up, keeping warm, and having a great day!

Liz I so loved your post! It's true no one makes you NOT eat right No one makes you not track ONLY YOU can do that! Just as I don't have my head into this any more the scale shows it. Three pounds.... To me it is a lot, this is 10% of what I have lost already. This will take me a while to lose again. But I will DO IT! Maybe not to day or tomorrow but It will come off this year along with the rest of it!

Dawn I agree with the cold! It is brutal. It is very hard to get out when you end up with nose - icles! Thirty is do able! I think right now 20 would be great last week I was out shoveling in a t-shirt when it was thirty! But this MINUS CRAP needs to go!

Ok off to shower and then to work!
Have a great day everyone!
Amiee Keep the snow sleet and freezing rain I agree with nancy take one for the team if you don't want it I believe Dawn said she would take it!!! But then again with snow that = warmer weather! It might come out of the deep freeze!

Oh I tracked so far today and I am at 10 points out of 30! 3 glasses of water!

I totally have the "warm fuzzies" over this thread right now! :rotfl: I just LOVE the honesty. Heads are getting into "good places". The "time to move on" places. The truth can be hard to face, but it's such an important part of moving on. I'm all about owning my mistakes. Me, me, me. That's who I blame. I'm my own worst critic most days. I have high expectations for myself in the food/exercise arena and get really annoyed when I don't meet them.

One thing I hear ALL THE TIME is "Well, I would be in thin and in great shape too if I had 90 minutes a day to work out, but I just don't have that kind of time." YES, the time is there. hmmm...a bumper sticker in the making somehow? :rotfl:

That means, sometimes, that other things have to go. TV? Don't need to watch it. House? Some days it doesn't get cleaned. Oh well. Getting fit is a priority for me over keeping the house clean.

Confession. My house is never clean all at the same time. I decided l-o-n-g ago that my obituary wouldn't read "she didn't do much, but boy was her house CLEAN" My house is where I live, with my husband, three kids and a myriad of animals. It is not a museum. "clutter" is the norm. Bathrooms & kitchen are ALWAYS clean....but dust bunnies? Heck no. Sometimes I have tumbleweeds. (although since testing that Swiffer duster, their numbers are greatly diminshed!)

Apparently today is accountability day, who knew? Or is it Channel Jillian Michaels Day? :rotfl2:

OH YEAH! It IS Jillian Day (well, at least BL night)

And Liz, why can't I come and drink with you and Amy and talk about Twilight?! You don't love me anymore?

Because you are on the wagon, remember? :confused3

:lmao:

Boy, this thread moves along FAST.....:)

::yes::

Food was good yesterday, and I'm on track today so far, so it's looking good.

Good job:thumbsup2 Gotta love those old-school videos

Oh I tracked so far today and I am at 10 points out of 30! 3 glasses of water!

YAY for Steph! :yay:

Off to run errands before the orthodonist appts today....

Steph - sorry to hear about those 3 nasty pounds (Kelly what is that...like...1/4 stone? :confused3 ...sounds better that way). I'm sure they'll fall right back off as soon as you regain your focus.
[/COLOR]

3lbs - less than a 1/4 of a stone - sounds much better!

EXCUSES. I was the worst person in the world for excuses.
1) My favourite program is on TV
2) My house needs cleaning and no-one else is going to do it

So what do I do now? My favourite program is still on, and my house still needs cleaning. Well, I incorporate exercise into it.

While Im watching TV I drag the cross trainer in the front room and go on it while im watching my programmes. Easy peasy lemon squeezy - theres an hour exercise right there.

While im cleaning the house - I crank the stereo up LOUD and I DANCE my way round the house.
While Im hoovering I shake my bummocks like no-ones watching.
While Im taking the laundry upstairs I split it into small piles and take them up a small pile at a time - like step aerobics.
Mopping the floors - I use the mop as a dance partner (its much more fun when the mop lets me lead! :rotfl2: )
Everything becomes a dance routine! Plus, at least once a week I make an hour for my Disco Dance DVD - I get up an hour earlier or I tape a program and watch it later, but I make the hour.

Now, this works for ME. It might not be the best exercise in the world, but Im moving. Im not sat on my bummocks night after night moaning about being 15lbs overweight while im stuffing my face with chocolate and crisps - Im dancing like a crazy lady.

This also provides much amusement for DH. And laughter is a great form of exercise so hes getting plenty! :lmao:

Erika - I forgot to say - ouch on the fingers!

Anyone I missed earlier :flower3: and :wave2:

Yup, LOVE the honesty!!

Btw, I am over here eating everything in sight. Just sayin'. :wave2:

And I totally agree with E. You have to *make* time, not "have" time.

Today has been super lazy (and, umm, a bit hungover). Got up late, meandered over to Pepper Market for lunch, and about to head into DHS for a bit before dinner at Chefs De France.

YES! This is what it's all about.

Steph - Again, I so hear you. I'm up - from my lowest weight, from my post Christmas weight. Tomorrow we will find out exactly how much. And it's not pretty. But you're right - no one makes us do this but ourselves. And we don't have to. There are plenty of people who are happy being fat. I was. I was for a long time. But now I'm not. You so own your stuff every time. I love that about you.

Erika - Nancy is right, you're on the wagon. But how's this? We'll go right after Valentine's Day. Okay? So you and Nancy can come.

Oh, and the no time thing. Please. I have all the time in the world. If I don't want to, I don't want to.

Like Dawn pointed out, there is no reason for either her or I not to be perfectly fit and workout all the time, except we don't want to.

The truth is, I WANT to eat junk and take couch naps. But that's not going to get me thinner, and I want to be thinner and fitter. (See, Lisa V? I added fitter. For you.)

Kelly - great exercise suggestions. And the point is, you either want to watch TV or workout, or maybe both, so you make it happen.

Lisa PR, come back! Come back!

So, it looks like I'm going to be doing a race, 5k, in April. So I'll have to start training. Which will be good for me. Right now I walk at 3.5 to 4.0 and run higher than that, but it's done so infrequently, it will be easy to build when I start doing it a few times a week.

Winter is always tough for me. This winter moreso. I really just want to eat and sleep and wear sweats. Although the yoga pants and sneakers do make me more perky, Erika! It works!

I need a good winter-specific strategy for this year and to prep me for next year. Suggestions? Maybe it's race training. Hmm.

xoxo to you all! :goodvibes

Kelly - great exercise suggestions. And the point is, you either want to watch TV or workout, or maybe both, so you make it happen.

Yes!
It wasn't until I realised that no-one was going to exercise for me, and I actually WANTED to get healthier that I decided to pull my finger out and DO something about it.
I didn't want to spend all my time exercising and not watching TV - I love TV - so why not combine the two.

Im not perfect - I am so far away from perfect it is just a little speck in the distance! :lmao: (actually this is not true, I rock! :rotfl2: ), so if I decide I don't want to do exercise I don't do it. When it comes to weigh-in and I haven't lost weight, or ive gained a pound or two I don't moan about it. This is my choice, and again its not ideal but thats how I roll :lmao:

Hmm, reading back this sounds a little...weird? Im not being mardy I promise - sometimes I can't write the words in my head without them sounding odd. Hey ho. :rotfl:

ETA: - Liz, great that you are going to do the 5K. Im doing the Race for Life again hopefully this year - its a 3K walk/run for Cancer Research. The last two years Ive walked, this year im hoping to run!

Liz The 5K sounds like a great idea! I did a komen race in october. Seeing all the survivors in their pink shirts and all the people doing the race in honor of someone was SO SO moving. I plan to keep it on my schedule every year! Signing up for races IS what keeps me on track exercise wise. It works for me.

Kat Hungover?? any good stories??? what did you drink???

I should also point out that my house is 3 miles from a total wine, beer and liquor store. I have actually run to it before, (not to buy anything) just as a 6 miler. AND 6 miles from the #1 beach in the country (per Dr. Beach who releases a list every year). Sand dollars galore!

I did do my Ab/core stuff today. It felt good and like Kelly said, so easy to do in front of the TV. C25K again tomorrow. Hopefully the hip feels better.

Ummm... what DIDN'T I drink?? I didn't feel like a decent human being until oh, about 5PM.

We have a Total Wine about 6 miles away.

Liz, hmm. $120 round trip... Can I come too? :confused3

I'm here. Mainly offline but I have snuck on to read when I can. Just busy. Will come back on later. Hi to everyone.

Lyz - thinking about you all the time. And miss you. I haven't read all of what I've missed so forgive me if I've missed something. But just wanted to say :wave2: to you.

Okay guys. Going to catch up.

I swear this multiquote thingy is doing something wonky to me again. :confused3 I mean - it couldn't POSSIBLY be "operator error" again, could it?

Anywho - trying to multi-task here....watching BL, catching up...updating my mp3....

Btw, I am over here eating everything in sight. Just sayin'. :wave2:

:woohoo: It's vacation. Enjoy to the fullest!

Today has been super lazy (and, umm, a bit hungover).

:headache: I *hate* when that happens

Hmm, reading back this sounds a little...weird? Im not being mardy I promise - sometimes I can't write the words in my head without them sounding odd. Hey ho. :rotfl:

I understand that completely! I have that happen all the time. Sounds right at the moment - but looking back? Could *easily* be misunderstood.

(and note to all: - please know that if something I say ever *sounds* rude - it was unintentional! Just my brain & fingers not working in sync! :rotfl: )

Liz The 5K sounds like a great idea! I did a komen race in october.

All this race talk. Love it! It's totally a win-win. You win 'cause you are out there gettin' it done with the exercise, and the charity wins. :dance3:

LISA :yay: so totally missing you!!!

Hi, LisaV

Kat I always find that drinking additional alcohol when hungover pretty much cures it! :drinking1

And the storm that is hitting some of you today and tomorrow, will arrive in the form of a cold front here on thursday/friday...

Yes please continue to rub it in that I am freezing here and you are all warm and cozy!:rotfl2: How far are you from port charlotte?

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Amy that is great to hear about your cousin!
They actually had a scare with their son who is older. They thought that he may have the same eye cancer. They almost put him through a bone marrow collection to test to see if he had the same thing, but the oncologist ruled it before it was necessary, thank god.

How nice is that... but what do you do with the kids???

I didn't stay tonight, but most of the time, its either singles or married and the hubs has the kids. lol

Great Job Erika!!!:thumbsup2 :cheer2: :cheer2:

Ok what does that do?? is this something I need to try?? I don't think we are getting the sleet and freezing rain just snow here!

It helped me get into my car with no trouble at all. I am glad it is snow for you. We now have 3 inches of freezing rain heading our way.

Paula great job on the loss and the exercise!

Nancy great job on keeping everyone accountable

Erika stay warm if you run... no frost bite!

LIZ where are you?

LYZ WHERE R U? I hope that your sister is doing better!

LisaV Are you reading and not posting?... Are you away?? We miss your wisdom!

As for me I went to WW last night and I have gained back the three pounds that I had lost this month:sad2: ! So for the challenge I am even! no loss no gain. This is not really how I wanted to start the new year but it is all me No tracking not eating correctly and so forth!

Hope everyone has a great day!

I would take snow over ice any day.

Hi All - hope everyone is braving the cold OK.... We're supposed to get 8-12 inches tomorrow.... what a pain!

I read all of the posts from today, but i'm heading to bed to collapse, after work i had to drive 1.5 hrs to my parents house to pick up my puppy (they were dogsitting while we were at the in-laws this weekend). Tomorrow i actually get home at a normal time, and have nothing to do so i can work out and catch up on a few things....i'm ex-haus-ted :faint:

My company's annual meeting is tomorrow and we are going curling... i've never done it before, so we'll see how that goes, and they are having lunch catered by a local BBQ joint (aka, CALORIES.....bah) i'll have to limit my intake!!!!

Hope to be back to normal tomorrow, everyone have a great night!!!!!!!!!! :upsidedow
