In Our Daughter's Eyes - Emily's Wish Trip Dec.10-Jan.11 ALL DONE PICS ADDED p.16!

WOW!! :laughing:It looks like we have more in common than name, number of kids, and puking on planes!! Apparently we had the same reaction to our Girls getting their wish... the very first day!! I was just able to sit down and read your TR... LOVE IT!! Love the pictures. Can't wait to read more!!:goodvibes

OMG Amy, what wonderful Disney magic having Emily sleep right up until that special moment when your voyage on IASW began. I know it was such a special and beautiful treat for you guys. I am sitting here fighting back tears looking at Emily's beautiful face as she takes it all in!!! What a great update, and thanks for sharing this very intimate family moment with us all! I know my life was blessed by it.:goodvibes

I can't wait to read more. My daughter had a Wish trip through the Starlight foundation in 1989. It was our first trip to Disney. She was 9 at the time. She is now 33 and a teacher and mother of 2.

I think we were just a few villas away from you, we were 242 (you were 239?), just as the road started curving left. Our villa was just to the right of the main playground entrance (if you were facing the playground).
Yes we were 239.. that is funny. We were only a few doors down from you.

You "think"? ;) Maybe you were chopping onions while you were reading?
No onions... I have a reputation to uphold... plus Marv reads this thread. ;) :lmao::lmao:

OK I was teary eyed.. there. :sad1: :goodvibes

Yay, awesome wasn't it? Loving yours too!

No worries about reps here! Only "real men" would admit they teared up anyway. :thumbsup2 And especially one who just returned from his own daughter's Wish trip!!!

Working on a new update now . . . I still have the rest of our day at Magic Kingdom to get through! Gosh, I'm sloooooooooow.

Yeah, hurry up! I want to get to your Epcot Day and hear about how you walked around the whole time hoping to run into Marv..... :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Luvin the start of the trip report. Sorry to hear Emily was sick before the MK day

After our wonderful ride on It’s a Small World, we realized it was already lunchtime and that we’d better eat before we forgot to feed the children (again, ahem.) We also needed a bathroom break! We knew there were nice bathrooms by the Wish Lounge that MAW families get to use, but we figured there had to be one closer. We started walking around looking for a restaurant and a bathroom and finally found both near Tomorrowland. DH took the other 3 with him while I took Em in the ladies restroom with me hoping it would have a changing table big enough for her and her chair! There was quite a line just to get in the bathroom.

Unfortunately the magic button doesn’t help with bathroom lines. We had to wait about 10 minutes or so for the changing table, but it felt longer! DH and the rest of the crew were finished when we finally came out and we were right across from Cosmic Rays, so we headed there for lunch. Again, the lines were super long but a nice CM helped us to a shorter line. When we got our food and glanced around we realized there was no way we were going to find a table so we just went right out the door and sat on the steps to eat! It had warmed up a bit, so it was actually pretty nice to eat outside.

Since we were already there, we decided to check out the attractions in Tomorrowland. First we came upon Monsters Inc., Laugh Floor. The kids love that movie and I had heard it was funny, so we went gave it a try. While we were waiting, they had TVs playing short clips to entertain us, and they asked anyone who wanted to share a joke to text it and it might get picked to be used during the show. Drew loves jokes, so I asked him to come up with his favorite one and I would text it. He was excited that they might possibly use his joke during the show! After a short wait, they ushered us to our seats. Emily was still awake for the show and the kids were enjoying it and participating with characters on the “stage”. I was little disappointed to figure out that the people who got to be in the show had lights in front of them, but the handicapped seating areas had no lights.

Then they announced that they were going to share some jokes from the audience and Mike said “This first joke is from my friend Drew, from New Jersey”!!! They picked his joke! He was ecstatic! And the joke?

What happens when a ghost falls down?

He gets a “Boo! Boo!”

You know you laughed! ;)

Next, we found Buzz’s Space Ranger Spin. I had heard that the ride was true to its name, pretty “spinny”. But we used our button and GAC and we all got in the FP line. Thank goodness we had that button because it was mobbed! As we got closer to the entrance, DH decided he’d better sit this one out with Em, so he stepped to the side when we got to the cars and I had to quickly decide how I was going to ride with the other 3!!! Brenna is our dare devil, so I put her on with Drew, and Carter and I got on behind them. We all really enjoyed the ride, even Carter who is generally timid in new and unusual settings, and don’t forget the motion sickness issues!

As many of the rides do, it emptied us out into a gift shop, where we allowed the kids to pick their first souvenirs of the trip. The boys quickly found some Buzz Lightyear laser guns and we got a picture with Zurg.

We promised Brenna she could get a souvenir at the next shop since she didn’t really find anything she liked there. I was hoping we might run into Buzz Lightyear on the way out for our first character meet, but no such luck. :confused3

Since we were all dressed up in our Mickey and Minnie gear, we knew we could get a picture with Mickey in Toontown so we headed there next. We stopped at the Hall of Fame tent to look for a quick souvenir for the girls. I had seen lots of people wearing super cute Minnie headbands and was hoping I could find them to go with the girls’ dresses. Wouldn’t you know, just inside the door was a whole rack of Minnie stuff with the perfect headbands!! DH waited at the entrance with Drew, Carter, and Em talking to a nice CM named Ralph who had mentioned he was also a volunteer at GKTW, while I went with Brenna to the checkout. The girls who checked us out were making a big fuss over Brenna and her Minnie dress and asked if it was our first visit. We told them yes and that we were on Em’s MAW trip. One of the girls said that if we waited just a minute she would get us 1st visit buttons, so we did! Pixie dust!!! She came right back with them and as we were saying our thank yous and getting our receipt, Ralph came rushing over saying DH needed my help because Emily had just gotten sick!! :scared1:

Oh boy, did she ever! Emily had thrown up again all over her beautiful Minnie dress (since we had unzipped her coat as the temps were rising) and even got some on Carter (and his Mickey shirt) who was standing in front of her when it happened! Ralph (that’s ironic!) got us tissues and bag and we always carry wipes so we started cleaning. It was pretty obvious though that Emily and her dress were now in no shape to get pictures with Mickey. So we decided to take the long trek to the Wish Lounge this time. We all needed a break anyway!

The nurses at the First Aid station let me take Emily back to a room with a sink so I could change her and clean her up thoroughly while DH and the other kids went into the Wish Lounge. It was just perfect in there and themed around Aladdin’s Genie, the ultimate wish granter! They had (free!) bottled water and juice boxes for the kids, a magic carpet, some extra extra large floor pillows, a chess table and some books and small toys.

Drew decided not to rub the lamp since he thought the Genie might accidentally destroy all the nice stuff in the small room!

It did end up taking a while to clean Emily up, take turns getting everyone to the bathroom again and just resting for a bit. So we had to make a big decision here. Our plan was to leave MK and head to Hollywood Studios for the night, then do Epcot and AK tomorrow. But with Em getting sick again and DH still not feeling well, we considering just going back to the village, skipping HS, and doing Epcot and HS the next day. But that would mean we’d have to skip AK altogether because our 3rd and final Disney day was reserved for spending New Year’s Day at MK and a reservation at Crystal Palace. We also couldn’t switch our Epcot day because we had an ADR at Akershus. Uggh.

We did decide to play it safe and headed back to the village. We figured it was a bonus if we made it to every park and that we’d just have to do what we could. Besides, the kids loved the village so much, it was just like being at a park to them anyway!

The carousel was going when we got back so all the kids took a spin, even Emily who was acting as if she hadn’t gotten sick at all. She got to ride like a big girl all by herself since the carousel had two adaptive animals that accommodated wheelchairs. The base of the carousel is completely flush to the ground so she just rolled right in! My camera had wasn’t working all of a sudden, so I couldn’t get pics, but I knew we’d ride again since “the horsies” are Brenna’s favorite and as Drew says, “it’s free!” He really couldn’t get over everything being free at the village, so cute! We ended the day relaxing at our villa and ordering in pizza for dinner.

The rest of the night was uneventful, and we told the kids about our breakfast with the princesses in Norway which we had been keeping a secret. They were excited and everyone got to bed early.

Day 1 – Carter pukes on the plane
Day 2 – Emily pukes at GKTW and MK

Oh, poor Em! Glad to hear in the end that she was acting as if she wasn't feeling sick.

I did find it funny that you pointed out the fact that Ralph helped you out in that situation! :lmao:

I hope that your plans worked out in the end. I always think it's a good choice to call it a day when a kiddo isn't feeling well.

Finally all caught up! :yay: I simply LOVE the photos of everyone, the customs are AMAZING!!! I teared up as well as I thought of Emily on IASW. I love that ride and that song as well. Magic definitely happened. :wizard: I am loving the second version of your trip as much as I did the first! I am so happy you are doing this! :cheer2:

I think it was a good decision, just hard when you know you only have 3 days to do 4 parks and have to cut one out completely!!!

We just got back Thursday from our MAW trip to GKTW. Your pictures are amazing and that picture on ITs a Small world is priceless. Sorry about all the puke - I hear you there. I have 2 with g-tubes.

While I currently live in Northern Virginia (last 7+ years) I am born and raised in South Jersey - Cherry Hill and spend much time at the Jersey shore - Ventnor and of course on the boardwalk in Ocean City - but pushing the convaid cruiser is not the easiest there.

Look forward to reading more.
