I've seen a few postings on here about can I bring such-and-such food on an airplane, etc. I was always under the impression that you could not bring food past security, so I have always been the sucker who pays $10 for a nasty airport sandwich. Am I correct to assume that for my early morning flight in January I could bring my own breakfast taco past security to eat while I wait for my plane??? I feel so duped.:rotfl2:

Yes, you can take food, but no drinks, and no yogurt or anything that is creamy and doesn't hold it's shape.

We've taken muffins from home, fresh fruit from home, bagged trail mix, cereal bars, sealed snacks, or wrapped Subway subs/sandwiches (there is one near home so we stop on the way to the airport) through security with no problems. Not all on one trip though!

Yeah, food can go through, just no beverages. Though I'd hate to deprive you of enjoying those incredibly delicious airport sandwiches ;)

DS16 was flying home solo from Atlanta last month (first time alone), and he went and bought a "street sandwich" from a vendor before he got to the airport, and had it doublewrapped in aluminumfoil to keep it warm. Well, it of course set off all sorts of alerts, and the TSA guy inspected it and actually laughed when DS told him the story! AND he let him keep it, after telling him that it smelled so good that the guy wished he could keep it himself! Crazy kid!

The only caution I'd say is be considerate of your fellow passengers who will be riding along with you and your food. Be careful of foods that have obnoxious odors and you may want to forgoe peanut based foods, just in case.

I've had no problem with TSA when I've had snacks or PB&J premade into sandwiches. I have heard that they do NOT like pb or jelly in packets or mayo or mustard in packets but already on sandwiches is fine. I usually budget for our airport (which has a Sonic, a Scholtzkeys, and a Moe's), but sometimes I carry something just in case.

Not so much a case of 'they do not like' those packets..but that those packets would have to go into the 3-1-1 baggie. They are considered a liquid or cream..which does not hold it's shape if removed from the container, so is subject to the 3-1-1 sizing.
