For Thanksgiving. :lmao: I can't wait to hear how wonderful their trip was when they get back.

I asked if they made any dinner reservations, (ADR's would have went over their head) their answer: Why would we need them? :rotfl2: I said you really should go online and see what's available. They think that Thanksgiving is a family holiday and no one goes to Disney for it.

How wonderful!! :thumbsup2

It's great your IL's are 'foot loose and fancy free' and decided to go to WDW on a whim :)! One of my dreams came true last Thanksgiving when our family had a WDW grand gathering :goodvibes. We had so much fun with lots of surprises in store and enjoyed making many special memories to last a lifetime! :lovestruc

Altho there may be some crowd and it's nice to have everything planned out, I give them credit for being adventurous enough to wing it ! Not to mention, it's beautiful this time of year with C'mas decorations in all their glory! :flower3:

I love it when people do things spontaneously like this..:thumbsup2

I did the same thing once - was flying to Florida to see my sister and decided when I got off the airplane in Orlando to head to WDW instead.. It was Easter/spring break and I had no problems at all..

I'm sure they'll have a wonderful time..:goodvibes

Good for them. I'm sure they will have a good time.

I'm the only one in my family that will spend months planning a trip. The rest of them just book it and go.

We all have a blast.

It really is possible to go to WDW without a major plan and still have an awesome time. I'll never be able to do that, but hey different strokes...

The first time we went, we went at Thanksgiving and had never even heard of an ADR. We were just following my sister and bil down (they wanted to take dd and we decided we didn't want her to go without us). Had a great time! Got a bit tired of hamburgers (we knew so little we didn't even know where to go to get a CS besides hamburgers!) but we really had a wonderful time!

A few years ago I probably would have thought this sort of thing was crazy. I used to insist on planning our trips well in advance, getting all our ADRs, making sure we figured out every little detail. But even though we still do that for some trips, over the last few years we've started taking lots of spontaneous trips for long weekends at WDW and sometimes we haven't even gotten a hotel reservation until the night before. It's been great! They've been some of the best trips we've taken. We don't worry about meals - sometimes we do walk ups at the full service restaurants, sometimes we do counter service, and sometimes we go to our favorite places elsewhere in Orlando. Right now I'm trying to convince my husband that we really need to squeeze in a WDW weekend once Space Mountain reopens, to ride that and enjoy the Christmas decorations. So maybe we'll end up there when your inlaws are there!

It's a totally different kind of trip when it's that spontaneous, and the more often we do that the more I think the whole planning thing is really overrated. I hope your inlaws have a great time!

I think there is a huge difference between spontaneous and clueless! I suspect that the OP is putting her in laws in the clueless catagory.

Please do update when they get back and let us know what a great time they had!;)

We're going in less than a month and although we do have adr's. Nothing else is really planned. We're not planning on being commando because we will have a 3 year old with us.

They are completely clueless, that's why I think it's so funny. They don't even know about fast pass. My sil doesn't like theme parks her husband does everything a mile a minute. There are 7 of them going ages 1 1/2 - 73.

I can't wait to hear what a horrible place it is and why we would ever bother to go.

When we first started going to WDW I would plan everything, and I mean everything! We always had a great time, but then I decided to just go with the flow and that usually works, especially when it's just the two of us.

If it's just the two of them, they may well be able to get seated for meals. It may not be at their first choice of restaurant, but there are lots of great choices. Even so, sometimes going with counter service can be good, too. More than two or three people and it's probably best to have ADRs for at least some meals, especially if there's restaurants that you consider a "must" for your visit.

I personally wouildn't do it, but a friend of my mom's has done it for the last 2 years and she usually books only about 10 days out, because of her job and she has gotten some decent ressies. She said that it really wasn't very crowded, but they got a good bit of rain on their trip last year.
