In Every Run That Must Be Done; There is an Element of Fun (comments welcome)

14 Days Until: Wine & Dine Weekend

This week’s Tuesday and Thursday runs were preempted by leaves—lots and lots of leaves. But I got the bulk of the fallen leaves cleared up so my grandpa will have a lot less to do when he gets home. Here’s a couple progress pics of clearing the leaves down in the “park” I did most of the work with our nice little battery-powered blower.

I got the leaves done yesterday, and I took today off so I could run, clean the house a bit, and get my 2nd booster shot and flu shot (my right arm is pretty sore now). I didn’t end up running as far as I was hoping, but it was still good to get out there. I ran on the Dakota Rail Trail, and it was suspiciously clear of leaves. I eventually discovered why: a middle-aged rollerblader with a mini electric blower 😂😂 Every time he saw more than one leaf in an area, he’d clear the path.

As I was getting close to the end of the run, I started feeling a blister on my heel. I’d had a little hot spot after my run on Monday, but it hadn’t bothered me since then. I did make sure to put a blister pad over the spot today, but it obviously didn’t help much. I’ll try different blister protection on my next run.

I’ve only seen one chipmunk lately, and it’s a baby that doesn’t know me. But I did have these good-looking boys show up to help with the last of the garden clearing (they’re not great at it actually, since they only like the tops of the plants 😄😄) Their mama stayed down in the park while they came up to the garden.

10 Days Until: Wine & Dine Weekend

My Saturday run was cancelled due to post-vaccination aches and fatigue. By Sunday, I was back to 100%, but I had to help with leaves again. Monday, I just didn’t feel like going out to run in the wind and rain. But today, it was nice and sunny and I was all out of excuses. Also, my grandparents brought the plague back with them from their cruise, so getting outside seemed like a good idea.

I live in the basement, so it’s pretty easy to keep isolated from them. I have a mask to wear anytime I have to go upstairs, and hand sanitizer to use when I come back down. I’ll be testing over the weekend and early next week before I travel, and obviously if I have symptoms or a positive test, I’ll have to cancel/reschedule my trip, and beg runDisney to switch me to virtual.

Anyway, today’s run was fine. I decided to just run it however I felt good enough to run it, and ignore my pace and heart rate. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Things continue to progress well here. My grandparents are doing fine, just stuffy heads; and nothing at all for me.

Last night, we had tickets to CATS, but obviously, I was the only one who could go (fully masked the entire time—I’m not taking chances). Luckily, I picked up someone to watch with me 😸😸 I usually stick to magnets and Playbills as Broadway souvenirs, but I couldn’t resist this little cat.

After work today, I had a nice easy run through the neighborhood. Nothing remarkable about it at all. Except for testing my new shoelaces to go with my W&D 5K costume. They take some trial and error to get tied at the correct tightness, but they stayed tied through the whole run, so they should hold up on race day.

When I got home from my run, I saw one of my deer friends getting a drink from the birdbath. I had to go out and refill it after he went down to the park, because he drank it dry and we’ve had a ton of migrating birds around lately, and they all want water since this area is in a severe drought.

6 Days Until: Wine & Dine Weekend

I really didn’t want to run today. But I finally just got up and did it. And now I’m rewarding myself with Ben & Jerry’s 😋

The run felt much harder than the paces show, and I’m not sure why. But I’ve officially finished the Club runDisney 2022 Virtual 10K, so that’s all that really matters.

4 Days Until: Wine & Dine Weekend

I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep this run on the schedule or not, just because it’s Halloween, but it was a beautiful day and I decided to run in my Cinderella costume from Princess Weekend.

After my run, and a quick dinner, I got into my other Halloween costume. My Maleficent staff needs some improvement, but this worked well enough for handing out candy.

I’m starting to get things ready for packing tomorrow. I think I need a suitcase just for shoes 😅😅

🎶All my bags are packed; I’m ready to go…🎶

I should probably be asleep in bed since I’m leaving for the airport at 4:45am, but oh well 😅😅

I managed to fit everything into my bags without going over the weight limit, and I didn’t even have to use the expansion on the big one.

I ran out on my lunch break and voted, since I’ll still be in Disney next Tuesday. I’ve been meaning to do it for about a month, but I kept forgetting until after my break was over. And I did try to do it on the Friday I took off work the other week, but I didn’t realize our little city hall closed at noon on Fridays.

BTW: I officially evaded the plague—I tested negative twice, 48 hours apart, and today was the last day I needed to mask in public, per the guidelines 🥳🥳

I love that your are still using that princess bag as your carry on!
This is probably the last time, it’s just a tiny bit too small, and it doesn’t roll worth a darn when it’s mostly vertical. I’m sure it would be less wobbly if I were a little kid and it was more horizontal.

Wine & Dine 5K

Well, apparently I was eager to run today. I always think I’m going to just take the 5K easy, and then I never do. Pace-wise for the time I wasn’t waiting in line for Caballero Donald, I was only 5s/mile slower than my PR (which was virtual, so not excess mileage included). I wish there had been better characters on course, instead of having all the “Latin American” characters in the pre/post-race area.

On the subject of the pre/post-race photo ops, I got screwed waiting in line for Mirabel after the race. It took more than an hour, and I couldn’t wait for any of the other characters. It would have been nice to get pics with all Three Caballeros, but it was getting late, and I needed to get out of my costume ASAP (too many layers for a port-a-potty 😅😅) and get on with my day.

I managed to get a few on-course pictures where my face isn’t doing something completely stupid and someone hasn’t cut in front of me. Okay, yes, my face is doing something stupid in one of the pics, but I actually succeeded in getting a jump pic, so I had to keep it.

After I (barely) survived the freezing bus ride back to CSR, I took a quick (barely) hot shower and headed out to Hollywood Studios. I had a lightning lane for ToT, and when I tapped in for that, I grabbed a post-lunch LL for Smuggler’s Run, in hopes that I wouldn’t get stuck as engineer if I didn’t single rider it (spoiler alert, I shouldn’t have wasted the LL, I still got stuck at engineer, with really bad pilots). Then I did single rider for Rock N Roller Coaster and standby for TSMM (because I’m addicted to this and Buzz). I checked into my Mama Melrose res about 15 minutes early, and my table as ready right away. I had rolls and buttered noodles (I can’t eat pasta sauce or meatballs). I also got a LL for TSMM stacked over my Smuggler’s Run LL.

Lunch was quick and good, and I was finished and out about 15 minutes after my original ADR time. I had a little time to kill before TSMM, so I watched Muppets. Then I did TSMM and grabbed a LL for Star Tours for after Smuggler’s. I saw a new-to-me Star Tour, so that was exciting. Then I managed to grab a LL for MMRR that was only an hour away. I killed time by having a second lunch/early dinner because I felt like I needed more than carbs and doing some shopping. After MMRR, I headed back to CSR because I really need to get more sleep tonight.
