Leaving EP after late EMH we took a bus back to the Poly due to reduced monorail hours. Upon arriving at the designated bus stop there was no designated area for handicapped. So I got into the queue w/ my ECV. TWhen the bus arrivEd. the very nice bus driver, Carlos moved people so I could get front of line to load 1st. Needless to say people were miffed. Anyway, Carlos said always pull your ECV up to the curb-don't get in the line even if there is no sign. I did not know the proper procedure & figured there may be others who could use the info!

I was worried about this as I had read that they had removed the special waiting areas. My son will be in a wheelchair this next trip.

It is somewhat unclear what to do.
The intent of removing the designated wheelchair spooned widening the lines was to have everyone wait in the same line.
Some people have waited in the line and been told by the bus driver they should not have. Others did not wait in the line, but waited where the OP was told to wait and were told the driver would load them 'this time' but they were supposed to wait in the line.

So, it is not clear what to do at the parks. As far as I know, most of the resorts have a painted box on the ground and a sign that explains what to do

When we went on the buses about a week ago ECV drivers were to be at the curb. They got to board, the bus releveled itself, then others could board. I was amazed the number of rude people getting ticked about waiting a few minutes so someone with a ECV could board.

That's what happened last nite-I zipped up the ramp, parked, after driver tied down the ECV he relevelled & people boarded. A few people were mad but most seemed ok. I talked to one couPle & explained that the designated space is the only place I can go whereas they had the run of the bus. I could see the light dawn-it's not that I keep them off but if they are in the ECV spacethey keep me off. Of course that discussion works best when there is room for everyone in line to get on the bus

And of course you could also mention that you will be the last person off the bus when it arrives at its destination.

This is becoming very confusing..it's really hard not to make other riders angry if you really don't know where to line up at the bus stop. I always thought the blue- painted spot worked very well. You knew where to wait and knew that if there were two other wheelchairs or ECVs in the spot before you, you would have to wait for another bus.

I agree.
I wish they would get all on one page.

After the bus stops at the parks were renovated to make the lines wider, for some, waiting outside of the lines means you may be waiting in an area inside the possible traffic lane.
This sign is at all bus stops at OKW, along with the wheelchair ‘box’ painted on the pavement.

People have posted they saw signs at other resorts, so I am assuming it is the same sign.

The box is painted at the Dolphin as well.

They also had the sign at the Boardwalk when I was there a few weeks ago.

I am assuming they have installed those signs at all resorts then, since I first saw it at OKW in October of 2010.

So, at least it's clear how to board at the resorts - and the painted box is near where the back door will be when the bus stops.

Also, the extra confusion of buses on nights of reduced monorail service likely does not help.

So true people don't realize we are the first on yet always the last off. We would also LOVE to be able to stand in line right behind them.

Was this the policy at the parks or only at the resorts?

At the resorts, it's clear if there is a sign.
At the parks, many stops have been changed to have the lines wider to be accessible. For some, the only exit is at the front, where the door of the bus will be. For others, there is a 'gate' with a chain or some other way of opening it along the front of the line, even to where the back door of the bus will be when the bus stops.
Different stops may have have different designs. For example, at Epcot, the OKW stop had no exit from the line except at the front door. Some of the other stops had a 'gate'.

People have been told different things by different bus drivers. Some were told they belong in the line. Others were told just to wait outside of the line.

So, it is not clear exactly what to do at the parks. Certainly, if there is a marked spot, wait there. If you can safely wait outside the line, you will probably be fine - but some of the areas don't have much space and you need to make sure you are not in a possible traffic area.
