In and Out in a Day

Nancy - Happy New Year to you too.

Lauri - I'm also hoping for a better 2013 than 2012; for all of us. :goodvibes

Ellen - I think we can all relate to being in a funk. Glad to read that you had a nice Christmas. I'm back to work on Tuesday...not looking forward to it at all. And its hot here. Hard to be drinking hot chocolate on a 100 F day!!!

Kat - Hope the new recipe was great!

Glynis - May 2013 be funk-free! That book sounds great. I might have to see if I can find it.

Robin - Funerals are tough no matter what time of year it is. :flower3:

Morning Girlies,

Robin ~ Thanks so much for your kind words. They mean so much!

Kat ~ So how was your dinner? It looked amazing!

PIO ~ I agree, hot chocolate is not my drink of choice in the summer. I keep forgetting you are opposite of us.

Glynis ~ How was Book Club last night? I just downloaded 3 new books to my Kindle, so I should be good for maybe a week. I love to read!!

It is bitter cold here on the plains today. It was 5 degrees when I let the house, but suppose to reach up into the 20's later. They are saying we could even reach 30 - 40 by early next week. I will take it. :thumbsup2

All of my Christmas decorations inside and out will come down this weekend. I got my office all taken care of yesterday. Wow, it looks so bare in here.

Jay and Elizabeth are going for a "date" night tonight (they just called and asked if we could watch the boys) so I will head over there right after work and Doug will come over later. I am so glad they are getting away for awhile. They really need some alone/adult time together. And we get to play/spoil the boys. Win win for all of us!!

WFDT ~ Well now I don't know as I will be with the grandbabies. Maybe I will order a pizza to be delivered. YEP - that's what I will do.

Make it a great day all!!

Dinner was great last night, the guys LOVED it!!

Heading to my orthopedist today for the surgery discussion we should have had years ago. Both of my thumbs are just shot. I can't twist off tops, button clothes, pinch, squeeze or lift with either of them. My doc told me years ago I would know when it's time because the pain would be extreme and he's right. I put it off because I will probably be in a cast for 6 weeks for each surgery. Hoping that is not the case. Looking like I'll have to delay the first one until mid-march because of work and our WDW spring weekend. We shall see.:guilty:

Ellen - Hope that you had a great time babysitting and that Jay and Elizabeth enjoyed their date night.

Kat - Oh no! I hope that you get your thumbs/hands fixed but I sure hope you're not in a cast for 6 weeks. That is not fun at all.

Heading out this morning to enjoy breakfast with friends. All this social activity is nice and all that....but I am so behind in my Dis-sing! :rotfl:

Hello peoples. The holidays were okay, had a horrible toothache Christmas Eve and Day. Went to the dentist who is sending me to the endodontist. She said everything on the outside looks okay but is sending me to the endodontist to check on the inside. She said it could be cracked which does not always show up on an x-ray.

Have been, and will be, spending a lot of time in medical professional offices. Went for a physical last week, dentist yesterday, checked the girl bits today ;), Monday to the endodontist, Tuesday for a mammo, Thursday to have another tooth finished and Friday for blood work. That's one way to start the year off. :rotfl:

bigmerel, sorry to hear you had a tooth ache on xmas eve, I hope your out of pain now. I go through the same routine every Aug. I never get use to it. I have to go to the dentist this month for a tooth implant, very expensive but it beats not having a tooth.

Good morning my wonderful friends!! Happy New Year!

I apologize in advance for being scarce around here. This time of year is really really hard for me. My dear Momma passed 8 years ago yesterday. I can always put myself where I was and what I was doing. Kind of puts me in a funk for awhile. Sorry.

Ellen- Please do not ever feel that you need to apologize to us, life happens and we are all experienced with that funk. I Know that most of us feel the loss of a parent during the year and there is no easy way to shrug it off. I gave up trying to because I think that there are times when it is okay to give in to missing my mom.

I will share with you Marisa's way and most of the time I use it. She told me she never misses Memere because she talks to her every day. I do too but there are times when I just want her here.

Anyway- I am glad you had fun with your boys!

PIO - Great pics as usual. Thanks for sharing!
Kat- I sure agree that this year needs to be a good one! I think we all could use a respite from teh gloomy year that just passed. Don't work too hard!

What kind od surgery are you looking at? My Mom had surgery on her thumb, she had trigger finger or something ike that. It was indeed a 6 week recovery.

I'm hoping that 2013 treats all of us much better! Looking forward to more positive thinking from myself, as well. That's one of my resolutions. I hate that I spent most of last year in a funk, and I'm determined not to go there again, this year!
.

Lets make a pact! I also spent a great deal of time in my own personal pity party and it really was not pretty :( No more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh dear!

Robin- I had something to say but forgot :faint:

Welcome Red!

Well I got most of my decorations down. I still have a lot of work left, all the linens are still on the beds and on the dressers so that needs to wait until Monday, I am working tomorrow.

I need to get my house spotless as we are entertaining Buddy's boss and his wife on Saturday. They are lovely people and always treat us like royalty so I have to figure out a good meal and some nice cocktails. Erica is knitting some gorgeous scarfs for me to give as gifts. I think she is posting them on FB, they are spectacular!

Buddy has turned into Tim the Toolman :goodvibes I have been annoyed with him during layoff before so this year he is fixing things that have gone undone for way too long!

Oh well, back to my glass of wine and then a hot bubble bath. Dinner is whatever we pull out of the fridge, every bone in my body hurts so no cooking for me!

Sooooooo, this is where all the cool kids hang out! :)

I've seen this thread before but for some reason just clicked on it today.

Nice to "see" ya'll!

Marilyn - Sorry about the toothache. Your list of check-ups had me feeling guilty. I need to book a few appointments of my own.

Nancy - I need to start getting my decorations down too. I want to have everything packed up this weekend. Dinner with Buddy's boss and his wife....is that this Saturday or next? Hope it goes well. :goodvibes

7165Red - Hello. I don't think we've met before.

Lucas - Hello as well. Cool kids? I think you mean the others. I'm definitely not cool....klutzy, yes. Cool...no.

Marilyn - Wow, you've made me tired just reading your schedule! Hope your toothache is better! I need to make some of those appointments myself.:(

Nan - I hope your evening with Buddy's boss and his wife went well! The surgery is thumb arthroplasty and it will indeed be a six week recovery for each hand. Since we have a WDW trip planned for 3/1 my doc said I should wait until after that for the first surgery. He gave me a few cortisone shots in each hand and diagnosed a trigger finger on my left hand, so we'll probably start with the left hand in March.

lucas - SO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!!!! How are y'all doing? We really need to try and meet again, for a bit longer this time!

WFD - Steak & chicken fajitas.

Hey all! Sorry I didn't check in over the weekend. I came down with a touch of the flu and didn't really do much but rest and read the last few days. I'm feeling much better today, so here I am!

The Christmas decorations are down and in boxes. Alan and Jacob will get them into the attic this afternoon, and then take down the outside lights. I hate putting Christmas away, but it needs to be done.

Alan starts his last semester of school today! Did I tell y'all that he is going to graduate this spring? My amazing hubby managed to get through a 3 year graduate program in 2 years! Wow! Of course, that means he's working full time and taking 18 credit hours of classes, as well. Lots of "single mom" time here! Oh well, the end is in sight, and I'm so proud of him!!! Oh, if y'all could keep your fingers crossed for him, I'd be grateful! He's put in a bid projection for a large account this summer, and we REALLY need it!!! If you guys could say a prayer that he gets this account I'd be thankful!!!

The weather here has been really cold, lately! We've found a fun way to deal with it, though. In one of our large cocoa mugs, we boil some water, then run to the porch and throw it into the air. If the weather is below freezing, the water freezes and turns to steam before it touches the ground! It's really "Harry Potter" looking! The kids love it!

Dinner tonight will be chicken curry. I think I have everything on hand to make it, and that means I won't have to leave my nice warm house. Also on tap today, is making my own laundry soap! Just call me pioneer woman!

Glynis- I can't believe Alan has been in school almost two years now, it seems like he just started. I love having the Christmas decorations out, but I also love putting them away!

Kathy- I'm sorry you'll need surgery but glad it can wait until after Disney. My husband was in a cast once when we travelled and he was nervous about people bumping into it.

Glynis - You must be so proud of Alan, that is quite an accomplishment!!:thumbsup2

Robin - I hope it's not premature but the cortisone injections have made a huge difference in my hands! If they continue to improve I can live with getting injections every couple of months vs. surgery.:yay: If not, the "cast" won't be as bad as I originally thought. I'll have use of the other four fingers, just not the thumb.

WFD - Red beans & rice, smoked turkey sausage and salad.

Kat - Hope the cortisone injections continue to help. Sounds like you'll have a great time in WDW before the surgery. Good luck for it.

Glynis - Oh no! Keep well and I hope you're completely over the flu now. Congratulations to Alan. That's an amazing achievement to get through the 3 year program in 2. I'll have fingers and toes and everything else crossed that Alan gets that bit. Prayers coming your way. And have I known you all for 2 years now? I think I remember Alan starting school!

Robin - I loved putting my Christmas decorations away this weekend. There's something rather pleasurable about wrapping up decorations that I've collected over the last 25 years or so. Wherever possible, I buy my decorations when I travel. I smile as I remember where I bought each one.

Tuesday night over here. Baked potatoes for dinner.

It was also my first day back at work since before Christmas. My brain hurt from all that focus and concentration and thinking that I had to do today. It started when I got in the elevator and had to remember which floor to press! Would you believe I couldn't even remember what level I worked on....???

:laughing:I love this!! That means you truly had a vacation!!

WFD - Creole steak over egg noodles, corn and a salad.

PIO- I agree with Kathy, definitely sign of a good vacation.

Kathy- I'm friends with a retired surgeon, he is very anti surgery and considers it a last resort saying many people have surgery well before its time. The scar tissue caused can sometimes cause its own kind of pain. Of course I'm no surgeon and I'm sure you've had many talks with your doctor. I hope the injections continue to work for a while. Everyone I know who has had some type of joint surgery all say they knew without a doubt when it was time.

Have a great day all, I'm off to enjoy a walk with my pup in ABOVE freezing temperatures!

Good morning all!!! It is SO COLD HERE!!!! I just wanted to stay snuggled up in my bed this morning, but those darn kids think they need to have breakfast before school! Go figure!

PIO - Sounds like you did your vacation time up right!!! Good on ya!

Kathy - I'm so sorry about the surgery, but hope that it helps you. I'm glad you are waiting until after your Disney trip. Nothing should interfere with that!!!

Nothing much on tap for today here. I made liquid laundry soap yesterday, and today I get to divide it into containers. Don't I have the fun life??? Actually, I'm really pleased that it was so easy to do. I hope it works as well as my sister told me it does. If so, it will be a significant savings for us.

We've got a lot of chicken curry left over (kids thought it was too spicy), so I think Alan and I will have that for dinner with hot dogs and potato salad for the kids tonight.

Hi everyone! Jumping back in. I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. It was busy but lots of fun too. We had some good food and relaxing time, watched some movies, caught up on sleep :rotfl: Yesterday was my first day back to work so it was quite a long break this year.

PIO, lovely photos of New Years Eve! Thanks for sharing.

Glynis, congrats to Alan! The end is in sight. I have read about making liquid laundry soap. You have more ambition than me!

Kathy, I hope the cortisone continues to work for you! Avoiding surgery is always a plus in my book :) Did you book your spring trip with the new promotion codes? I got a postcard the other day and it looked like a decent deal. I think it was 35% off or something like that.

Not too much else is going on here at the moment. I am working on taking down the Christmas decorations. John would not let me take the tree down over break, he said he was enjoying it too much. Well, it is only up for a little while so that was OK with me. But he is in Norway for work this week and that tree is coming down while he is gone! I have about half of the ornaments off. It is quite the process because each ornament has its assigned individual box and the ornaments have to be bubble wrapped. I am kind of particular that way. Hmmm...maybe this is why John wanted me to leave the tree up until he left...he did not want to help put all of the ornaments away according to my system! :lmao:

WFD: shirred eggs, arugula salad, and crusty baguette
