In-A-Gadda-Da-Eata - Dining Report 7/27/08 - 8/2/08 w/ Pics - Updated 9/2

All caught up now and absolutely loving your reviews. You have me in stitches - and, just so you know, licking the plate and thus not wasting perfectly good chocolate is completely acceptable :thumbsup2

We are heading down in 52 days (& counting) with our three kids (6, 4 and 20mo) I love your postings! We are actually going to a lot of the places you have reviewed, so I have gotten lots of insights. :dance3: Please keep them coming, I check every night for your latest!

Just wanted to chime in to say that I'm loving your reviews and that I completely agree with you about Coke Zero (yum) and chocolate (yum, yum)!

I am loving your food porn! And I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one telling horrified people that I love to eat paps! :rotfl:

We're heading back next year and, while my ds (6) can be a bit picky, I'm not worried about him. Kids meals are always a hit. No, I have to worry about my mil. We're taking her next time and plan to get the dining plan again and, I know, she will not touch any of the adult TS. I'm not kidding, she's worse than any toddler. She says cooked onions are "gross" as are mushrooms and tomatoes and anything green other than lettuce with lots of ranch. She's never tried them (almost 70!) because they're "slimy". :rolleyes1 It's going to be kinda tough to find Hamburger Helper or Kraft Macaroni and Cheese with a can of cream of chicken and canned chicken mixed in. Her favorite meals.

I am honestly relieved that you found some good pizza! Your first experience had me a little worried! By the way did you know the "In a Gadda Davida" is really stoned slang for "In the Garden of Eden"? Less than 3 weeks and counting! mmmmmm.....burgers......

:cool1:

From one DC'er to another, thanks for all the hard work you have done on this thread. My husband and I will be going to DW in a little less than two months for the Food and Wine Festival, and to celebrate our second anniversary! Your reports are sooooo helpful!

Glad Pizza Planet was decent. We usually dine there at the Studios and have always enjoyed it. The kids like the decor and I find it more consistent then some of the other places there. :thumbsup2

Your Augustus Gloop comment from B-fast at Boma had me :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Loving your reviews...

Keep 'em coming!

I am LOVING your report! :goodvibes Keep it comin'!

Wahoo!! I'm the first to post after this installment!! Great job yet again!! You're just too funny:goodvibes

You are too funny!

I'll keep reading and learning what my now 12 year old who might reasonably be expected to eat off the adult menu will find to be completely unacceptable.

Look on the bright side, he can continue to order off the kid's menu. The Tweedles considered it a couple of times, but they seemed to be concerned that people would think they are babies if they ordered off the kid's menu.

licking the plate and thus not wasting perfectly good chocolate is completely acceptable :thumbsup2

Wasting chocolate is one of the seven deadly sins. Isn't it??

No, I have to worry about my mil. We're taking her next time and plan to get the dining plan again and, I know, she will not touch any of the adult TS.

I thought I was brave taking the Tweedles. But my MIL? Honestly, if my choice was WDW with my MIL or no WDW....I might have to choose no WDW!! :rotfl2:

The real name is what inspired me for the title. I kept thinking In the Garden of Eatin'

I take it from your name, you are in the Woodley Park area? It is good to see a neighbor! I live in Cathedral Heights.

My Irish Eyes Weren't Smiling

I am an Irish Girl. I have auburn hair, freckles, green eyes, I glow under black light, and I can hold my Jameson and Guinness. OK, I know there a lots of people from other countries who read this, so just to be clear...I have never actually been to Ireland (waiting for the Euro to drop a bit). My family left Ireland a long long time ago (like while America was still under British rule), but hey I am proud of my heritage. Anyways, I love traditional Irish food. Last trip David and I went to Raglan Road and it was a good meal. I had spent 11 months dreaming of their bread pudding, so we decided to try it again. I had really been looking forward to this meal.

As always, they brought us soda bread with a guinness dipping sauce. Everyone, particularly Tweedle Dee liked it. We also ordered the Dalkey Duo. And everyone got a soda to drink (David had a diet coke, the rest of us had regular cokes). The soda is where the problems started. No one there could seem to understand that I was drinking a regular coke while my husband was drinking a diet coke. Every time a soda was brought to us, we had to correct them. But even that wasn't enough. Eventually it just became funny that David and I were trying to finish our sodas at the same time so that we could exchange with each other the sodas they brought us as refills. I don't have photos of the Dalkey Duo...but you aren't missing anything. We didn't even finish them. They were not good.

Tweedle Dum and I both had Kevin's Heavenly Ham. Tweedle Dum loves ham, actually he loves anything pork related (bacon, ham, pork chops, etc.) I found the ham to be anything but heavenly. I thought it was incredibly dry and didn't finish my dish. Though, the cabbage wasn't bad.

David had the serious sirloin. And David is serious about his sirloin. He ordered his cooked medium and it came out dry and overcooked. He could have sent it back, but he just wasn't in the mood. So he ate some of it and decided to save room for dessert. Saving room for dessert....that's just one of the many reasons why I married him!

Tweedle Dee got a penne pasta dish. I don't see its name on any of the available menus, but I don't think it was a special. Anyways, it was penne pasta with some type of red wine sauce. He hated it. And he hated me for bringing him here. Poor Tweedle.

Dessert was the best part of the meal. The bread pudding is still good. But it is huge and really rich. So unless you have a hollow leg, eating all of dinner plus the bread and butter pudding is difficult. I ate 1/3. Which was sad because it really was delicious. David ate 1/2 of his. Tweedle Dee, in an attempt to humor me, had 3 bites. Then he poured all the sauces in it and began to stir it into a gross mess. At this point in time, I started to wonder if Fairy Godmother's would babysit teenagers. I also wondered why they didn't sell smaller versions of the bread pudding. I always feel so guilty when I through away food.

Tweedle Dum, well he was just a joy this evening. He was thrilled with his dinner. And for dessert, he decided to be an iconoclast and get out of Tweedle Dee's shadow. I think he got the Dunbrody's Kiss, which is chocolate served 3 ways. It was a chocolate mousse, a white chocolate something, and a chocolate milkshake. Now, he didn't eat all of it...but hey Rome wasn't built in a day. At least he liked the milkshake (which he drank before I could even take the picture). MMMM...ordering chocolate 3 ways...well it is obvious he takes after me. I would have ordered that, if I didn't know how yummy bread pudding is! And, bless his little Tweedle heart, he actually started to get into WDW (notice the pins and the lanyard!??!) :goodvibes

I don't know Raglan Road was having an off day, if the food had really gone that much down hill since August 2007, or if the last time around I just consumed too much Guinness to be an objective eater. Whatever the case, this time I was disappointed. And the Tweedles? Well, other than the bread, Tweedle Dee was downright miserable and we ended up taking him somewhere else later. Tweedle Dum...well he was the surprise of the evening because this meal was one of his favorites. I guess it goes to show that everything is subjective. As for me, I won't be making ADR's here for awhile. I got the recipe for the bread pudding, so hopefully that will satisfy my cravings.

How sad ... the disney dining jinx strikes again. :sad2:

As a fellow Irish girl (my family left the ol' sod a long time as well) I feel your pain and am really very sorry to hear that Raglan Road did not live up to your expectations. That sucks. And I don't think it was an excess of Guinness ... my experience has always been that alcohol makes food taste better. ;)

Despite the poor meal, your review was highly entertaining so thank you for sharing it with us even if you would have prefered to blot it from your memory. :goodvibes

It's disappointing to hear the food at Raglan Road wasn't up to par. I'm another Irish lass (light red hair, pasty white skin apart from the numerous freckles, and blue eyes) and I love me a good Irish meal.

Hopefully they're back "on" when we visit in September. If not I'll at least I can get thoroughly sloshed on Guinness :drinking1 Yummy!

Just caught up and jumping in. Hope there's more to come.:)

Oh no! This just bummed me right out! DH would drink Guninness for breakfast if he could! I was excited to try Raglan Road in April, but now I'm second guessing it....:confused3

I wouldn't second guess it. As I said, David and I loved it the first time around and it could have been not up to par for any number of reasons. Plus Tweedle Dum loved it....so it really is very subjective. My advice is to always try things for yourself. You might find that my taste is not the same as your taste and that you absolutely hate the places I like and vice versa. Plus, they have Guinness on tap. Mmmm......Guinness.
