I'm typing up the dining report separately, and doing the hotel junk separate too .. and I've gotten this much done so far, so I'll send it now, and do the rest as soon as I can. I'm TRYING to get this all done, but it's not easy with Ev and two friends here! LOL
Cosmic Rays (snack)- It's been a while since we had anything from here, and it's still as good as I remembered. I just wanted a little snack, so I only had the Cream of Chicken soup - very tasty! Evan, being an almost teen boy, had his first lunch! LOL He got the Big Dipper Stacked sandwich, which is basically a club, on foccacia bread. That thing was huge! LOL And pretty darned good too! While I *do* still miss the buffalo wings here, it's a good place for a fast lunch.
Plaza Restaurant (lunch)- While I still like the Plaza a lot, this visit was a teeny bit disappointing. I think mainly because of the service. It wasn't very crowded here at all, yet the server was short with us, hard to get a hold of for various things, etc. But, I guess everyone has a bad day once in a while, so it won't keep me from returning again. I had the Chicken/Strawberry salad, except that they substituted pears this day. It wasn't bad that way .. but the berries are better. Dave and Evan both had some chicken noodle soup to start, which is really good here. Dave got a burger, and Ev - yes, *another* club sandwich! LOL They both liked their choices.
Artist Point (dinner)- I ate here for the first time last December, and really, really enjoyed it. Perfect setting for the holidays, so we decided to do it again this year. I was sorry to see that the mixed grill components had changed, but we had a great meal anyway. Let's see .. I had the Grant's Scottish Ale Battered Halibut on Pumpkin Relish - it was excellent!! Basically a small portion of fish & chips, but better. Dave had the Field Greens with Goat Cheese Toast and he actually liked it! LOL *That* surprised me! Debbie had the Frisee salad, which is always a favorite of mine too. For our entrees, I had the Roasted Free Range Breast of Chicken - it was very good!!! I'd not had the chicken, so I wanted to try it. Dave & Debbie both had the Tenderloin, and both enjoyed that, and Dennis had the Mixed Grill and I think he liked that also. As for the kids, I know Evan had .. PB&J!! I couldn't believe that! LOL I'm not sure what Jackie and Jake had. We also had a nice bottle of .. I *think* it was a Hogue Merlot with dinner. Only Debbie and I had desserts - she had the Creme Brulee, and I finally got to try the Cobbler. I liked it, but I won't say it was the best dessert I've ever had. It could've had many more berries, and I frankly like my own homemade better! LOL
Spoodles (breakfast) - We finally made it back here for breakfast - 1st time since they've changed from a buffet to ala carte. I have to concede, just a bit <g>, that it's not quite as good as it was in the past .. BUT I did still like it a lot, and will go back again. Dave and I both had the Meditteranean breakfast sampler, which contained most of my fav's from the buffet. The vegetable rotollo seemed a bit drier than in the past, which was a little disappointing, though it wasn't awful.
And this particular platter is all you can eat, where you simply request more of whatever you want. Evan had a cheese frittata, which was very good! All in all, we enjoyed it - though I still wish it was a buffet.
Restaurant Akershus (lunch)- While this isn't about to become my 'new favorite' .. LOL.. it wasn't bad at all! It's got a huge selection, and if my picky eater Dave could find enough to fill up on, *anyone* can! LOL I think we all preferred the cold selections to the hot, and there was enough to fill up on with just that alone. We did try the hot items too, but .... imho, those were just "ok". Also had the rice cream that everyone talks about for dessert .. but I think I am missing something about this! LOL I didn't care for it - I thought it was WAY too sweet for me. Will we go back again? Yeah, we might! The only thing that I didn't like was also a complaint when we did the Princess breakfast here last month, and that is service. Not too good .. really inattentive at best.
