This was our earliest morning yet, as far as what time we needed to be up and out. We were at the bus stop at the Grand at about 7:45 am, to catch a ride to MGM. We had an early PS for breakfast there, at Hollywood & Vine. There was separate line for those people holding PS @ 8:30, and we were let in at about 8:25.
As soon as we were done breakfast, right around 9 am, we headed right over to RnR, and got on almost immediately! I was surprised at the lack of a line there!
I swear I wish this ride was longer! LOL I love it, but it just seems too short to me! We went to check on ToT, but that had a longer wait, so we grabbed a couple of FP's and did a little shopping and grabbed a chocolate chip cookie from the bakery while we waited. Already the day was shaping up to be another horribly hot one ... though what's funny is that it was actually hotter at home here in MD than it was in Orlando! It still is now too! LOL
Evan's favorite at MGM is still the GMR, and since there was virtually no line for that either, we did that next. We played "under the hat" - which I *still* don't like! I like the little kiosks there, but the fact that the hat is there to begin with, blocking the theater ... just can't get used to that. I hope it's not a permanent fixture, though I'm afraid it might be...
We made our way around to the Muppets 3D next, and again, walked right in! As I said before, we found for the most part that the parks were definitely not as crowded as they've been in past Julys. I don't know what to attribute that to, but .. I'm certainly not complaining! LOL It was a pleasure!
After we did some shopping around, and just general checking things out in that area, it was about time for our lunch at Mama Melrose, so we headed that way.
By the time we finished our lunch, the weather was starting to look VERY bleak. This was really sending me into a tizzy, because tonight was the big surprise monorail dinner, and I started to panic, thinking "OH NO!! What if it doesn't stop, what if it's lightening really bad ... blah blah blah"! LOL I *was* getting a little carried away!
We decided to see "WWTBAM", and didn't even need a FP to do it, there was that small of a line - we literally walked right in! By the time that let out, it was getting close to when we needed to leave, so we walked through the stores along Hollywood Blvd. Just as we got to the very last one, the sky opened WIDE up, and it started to absolutely POUR!! I thought we were gonna have to start building an ark! LOL It truly was that bad! There was also a LOT of thunder, and tremendous lightning!! Talk about throwing me into a panic!!
We had left the rainjackets in the room AGAIN!! LOL (this would be the last time we did that, believe me!) but I DID have the ponchos in the backpack. Some good they did! LOL We still got absolutely DRENCHED because of the whipping winds. Melissa needed something from the camera shop, so we made a mad dash across the street into there. After we came out, we were standing under the awning on the sidewalk ... Melissa's standing next to me ... she looks down at the sidewalk, as do I at the same time, and we both let out a HUGE squeal .. because there's a BIG old gross frog right there, ready to jump on us! LOL We both sort of grabbed onto each other, and scooted away from it quickly, screeching! LOL
Of course, this provided quite a bit of entertainment for the people standing nearby! <g>
It didn't look like the storm was going to let up anytime soon, and since it was getting nearer to the time that we needed to be back at the Grand for the 'big surprise', we figured ... we're already drenched, so we may as well just make a run for it and catch the bus back! LOL We didn't have to wait long, and we were on our way back to the Grand.
By the time we got back, we needed to get showered and dressed, and ready to go! Evan and Melissa weren't doing the monorail with us - it was a "grownups only" night! LOL I *had* asked them if they minded not doing it, and both were actually perfectly fine with hanging out at the hotel and just getting some room service and watching tv! LOL Kids!
Once we were ready to go, the kids did walk out to the monorail platform at the Grand to see us off. I had Dave close his eyes when we got off the elevator, because I didn't want him to see where he was going! LOL
.... next - 'dining round the world'!!
