I'm worried I may not be happy with the GF.

Sorry, but I kind of disagree
I have been to the GF for meals and enjoy visiting it but don't want to stay there. The staff have always been wonderful.
I have had issue with some of the guests. Many of them look at you as if you are a lower class citizen or something if you don't have designer clothing. This is not imagined I have actually seen people look at my t-shirt and shorts and say to each other (but not really very quietly) "he obviouly isn't staying here". Maybe my skin is a little too thin but that is uncalled for. I realize not everyone who stays there would treat people that way but just a few are enough. I will probably not ever stay there . I just do not feel comfortable in those surroundings. I like to enjoy my resort not be worried that I would be embarassed to walk around it. Just my opinion. This is in no way directed at any of the previous posters.

I have long since gotten over what other people think. I may think that they are being ridiculous wearing the types of clothes they are wearing, but that is their perogative...whatever makes you happy, right? My DH and I are not know for being fashion statements...we dress for comfort... so we kind of think it is fun to go in our shorts and Mickey t's and hang out and people watch. I am sure that we are watched too, but who cares. If I wanted to stay at GF, I would certainly not let people who think they have to project an image of money (or whatever they think they are projecting) stop me. For all they know, those of us who are dressed in our "less than desireable attire" can well afford to stay there, and just may be staying there next door to them in the concierge. If you have confidence in yourself, it doesn't matter what you are wearing, or how much you are worth...because what matters in the end is your self worth...and no one can take that away!

Go, have a great time, keep your head held high and let no one make you feel inferior!

I'm not so worried about feeling inferior. And about the people watching, my family is watched no matter where we go! With a family that is considered large these days (4 kids), we can't help but be watched by others. We are hardly a quiet family (but polite) and therefore attention comes our way often. I have learned to ignore the less-than-polite busy-bodies.
We're are at WDW to have fun and be together as a family having fun. That's what I intend to do! Thanks so much for the insight into the GF. This trip is a much needed time for us. (especially me!)

I really don't think you have anything to worry about! My husband and I stayed at the GF 2 years ago on our honeymoon and would go back in a minute!!!

It's a beautiful resort with a wonderful staff (and a great new pool area we saw on our last visit in Oct. '01). Just relax and have a great time - enjoy your family - make great memories!!

Plus, I'm sure if you're disappointed when you get there, the staff will do their best to re-accomodate you. But....I really don't think you'll want to move:)

Have a wonderful, wonderful trip!

You will *love* the GF. I've stayed there 90% of my trips to WDW, concierge level, and I love the extra benefits of staying concierge. They book PS's for you, they give you advice, they help you with any special requests.

You'll find out when you get there you made the right choice - yes, the GF has some snobby people, but the majority of the people who stay there are fun-loving Disney fans that are there to have a great vacation. Do the same! :)
