I'm venting about food.......

the moose meat. :confused3

I don't mind cooking... it's the deciding what to cook.... just like everyone else.
DH is a meat and potatoes kind of guy. No soup/sandwich dinners and no "breakfast for dinner" dinners. That makes it tough.

DS(10) and DD(8) will eat cereal, spaghetti o's, ravioli, ramen noodles or soup and really not complain. They'd rather that than some of the "regular" meals.

I go in the hospital for usually a week at a time quite often lately. DH usually whines about cooking. I tell him give the kids (see above list) and get yourself something. If he weren't so picky he wouldn't have to cook every night.

My Dh is a very picky eater. He likes Hungry Man dinners. :confused3

The other night I made a meatloaf for me and my dd(4). Well dd refused to eat it. She eats it at my moms all the time. :confused3 I said what is wrong with it she said it taste like cardboard. :furious: It was delicious. I said I am no longer cooking for anyone anymore. :furious:

Sort off off topic but what is Black and Blue Burgers? Sounds interesting.

I don't think that there's any way to please all of them. I work outside of the home and decided to really simplify things and if they don't like it, they can cook! When I say simplify, I mean lots of simple things like burgers, stir fries and the like.

The plus thing is that now DH cooks a lot and he's having fun with it.

4 ounces blue cheese
4 tablespoons butter
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1 1/2 pounds ground beef or ground chuck

In a medium bowl, mash together blue cheese and butter. Salt and pepper mixture, to taste. Place mixture on plastic wrap and roll up to form a cylinder. Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour. After cheese mixture has firmed up, divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and make an indention in the center of each patty. Slice blue cheese mixture into 4 equal parts and place in indentation in patties. Mold ground beef around the cheese mixture to cover. Cook on hot grill or in skillet to desired doneness.

This is a Paula Deen Recipe. I don't use the butter, I just put the blue cheese in the burger and cover it up. I also sprinkle the outside with Montreal Steak Seasoning before I grill them.

I thought they were wonderful, but I don't think I will make them again.

I know, me too, me too over here. I sometimes just get bored of my sam-o, lam-o dinners.

I have the *opposite* problem than most of you. I can't keep DH out of grocery stores! On his days off, he "sneeks" to Publix and returns with things I've never seen before and that usually means I'm spending the day in the kitchen. People at roadside stands (for fresh fruit & veggies) know him by name! He likes spicy, exotic foods and I do, too, but...sometimes I'd like to just send out for pizza or have a simple sandwich. Tonight we're having a Thai dish that has 37 items in it! :guilty:

I've been where you are OP and it stinks! Does your family like Mac N Cheese? I have a really easy recipe for it and my family loves it. I don't however put the ham or hot dogs in it because we don't like it that way.

~Classic Baked Macaroni and Cheese~
6T. Butter
6T. Flour
4 cups Half & Half
1/8 tsp. Red pepper
Salt and White Pepper to taste
1 lb. Elbow macaroni, boiled al dente in lightly salted water, rinsed in cold water
3 c. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1 c. bite sizes hot dogs,[ the kids like this] or diced baked ham.
1 1/2 c. fresh parmesan cheese, grated [divided]
1 c. fresh bread crumbs
1 T. butter

In sauce pan, heat the butter, stir in the flour to form a roux. Slowly whisk in the warmed
Half and half, whisking until mixture comes to a boil. Add the salt and pepper. Let the
Sauce simmer about 2 min. In a large bowl, combine sauce, cooked macaroni, chedder
Hot dogs or ham, 1 c. parmesan cheese. Put the mixture into a 4 quart casserole dish.
Combine bread crumbs and remaining parmesan cheese, sprinkle over mixture.
Bake on 350 uncovered 30 min.

You can premake this, put in the freezer and just throw it in when you want it. We are a family of 5 and we got 2 meals out of this recipe.

~Another thing we like is to cook boneless skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot and then shred it up, throw in a can of enchilada sauce let it warm a little and then put it in tortillas with cheese.

~We just got a recipe for Balsamic Marinated Sirloin and Asparagus and it was really good too.

1 1/4-pound boneless beef top sirloin steaks, cut 1 inch thick
1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Marinade and/or Sauce:
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 1/2 teaspoons Dijon-style mustard
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon sugar

In small bowl, combine marinade ingredients. Place beef steak and 1/3 cup marinade in food-safe plastic bag; turn to coat. Close bag securely and marinate in refrigerator 15 minutes to 2 hours; turn occasionally. Cover and refrigerate remaining marinade.

Meanwhile in large skillet, bring 1 inch of water to a boil; add asparagus. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and cook 2 to 3 minutes or until crisp-tender. Drain. In shallow dish, combine asparagus and reserved marinade; turn to coat. Set aside.

Remove steak from marinade; discard marinade. Place steak on grid over medium, ash-covered coals. During last 3 minutes of grilling, arrange asparagus on grid around steak. Grill 3 minutes; turn once.

Season steak and asparagus with salt and pepper. Carve steak crosswise into slices; serve with asparagus. Makes 4 servings.

Why does the responsibility for planning, buying, and cooking meals fall on the woman's shoulders? If you are working outside the home, this job should be shared. Tell your husband to pick up those cookbooks and find 10 things he would like. Maybe you could start there. The kids can also help. Have them write down a list of their favorite meals, and tell them you will serve their favorites a few times a week.
What made a difference in my house was when I started having my teens prepare a meal a week. It gave them insight into how hard it was to please everyone. They really wanted all of us to enjoy it, and finally understood my position. I would buy the food, but they planned it and cooked it. Maybe you could have your kids and husband get involved like that. Good Luck! :)

With it being summer we've been grilling veggies and various meats. Makes for a simple and healthy dinner. Nothing is better than a grilled tomato!
