Say I go to a sit down restaurant (not buffet) with my husband and two kids, but one of the kids just shares my food, or shares a plate with her sister (shes not a big eater at all). Will they still charge us for 4 table service meals?

At all non-buffet, non-fixed price meals you will only be charged what you order, regardless of DDP status.

Wow, so if we go to say.... Coral Reef, and we only order 3 meals & 3 desserts, we will only be charged for 3 ts meals. Thats awesome! So excited now! Thanks!!!!

unfortunately, definitely. Maybe if your kids didn't eat much, and your waiter was good, you might be able to have that happen though.

Wait.... Cafeen is saying that its fine, and your saying otherwise.... which is it?? :rotfl2:
Personally, it never occured to me to do it, but I know my kids, and I know my youngest doesn't eat much. When your at a regular restaurant outside of Disney, you pay for what you order, so I would think that would be how it is in Disney.. but then again, you never know!!

You CAN do this, you can always order fewer meals than you have people on the DDP (except at any buffet or other fixed price restaurant - it's not just buffets, but any restaurant with a per person cost, including Akershus and CRT).

However, if you are on the dining plan (and it looks like you are), and you do not use the child's credits and have them share, you then have to figure out what you are going to do with the extra child's credits, which can be used only for children's meals. You may end up booking extra meals and paying for the adults, just so you can use up those extra child credits which you have already paid for. Unless you have something planned for the kid's credits I do not think it will save you anything to have the kids share (unless this child is 10 or over and has adult credits that the other adults can use).

As long as it is NOT a buffet, all you can eat, or a dinner show type of place, then you can share and only be charged what you order. So, if your one child shares with the other child or you, then that would only be one credit.

However, if you are on the dining plan and depending on the age of your "kids", you will then have their credits left to use. If your child is under the age of 10 (and considered a child on the dining plan) you can ONLY use these credits for your kids. So, you would have kids credits left, but no adult credits.

Ok, thank you for that information - that makes sence!

so we are going in may and have the regular dining plan. My son is 10 and is on the adult plan we also have a 2 year old that we will not have to pay for. my question is if we go to sit down, say Sci Fi dine in and me and my husband order one adult meal and split it and we order a childs meal for our daughter and just pay out of pocket for it and have them share because they are neither one big eaters, will that go over. I know at the buffets we will have to use all 3 credits for me my husband and son, but if we could split the other meals as stated above I think we would get more for our money. Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. We had a dining plan a few years ago when we went and ate a sci fi, we had way to much food left over when we each ordered a meal and it went to waste b/c we weren't going back to our room right then.

You have three Disney adults and an infant, and you want to spend one credit to feed both parents and buy a child's meal for the 10 year old and the infant to split?

It will work if you go to enough restaurants to use up all these extra adult credits if you're going to eat that way at each one. It will not work, as you mentioned, at any restaurant with a per person charge, you'll have to spend an adult credit for each parent and the 10 year old at those.

You should also note that WDW children's meals are generally very small and may not be enough for a 10 year old child and an infant to split. Two adult meals split with the kids might be a better way to do it, unless the 10 year old won't eat from the adult menu.

Great point. My daughter started eating adult meals when she was 9. Unfortunately, this meant we had to pay more for her park tickets since we were on the dining plan, but it was a no-brainer.

this is exactly what we'll run into if we share..

can you downgrade TS credits for CS? if we could do that then we could just use all the extra children's credits for their breakfast.. which THEY eat a ton of and we don't.

I don't know if you can downgrade TS to CS, but I was told (by consierge at desk at Kidani) that you can downgrade CS to snacks...but only at a CS location. Can anyone confirm this...I found out to late to try.

You may be able to trade your credits down:

TS credits for CS meals : You will have the best luck doing this at a resort CS. You may or may not be able to do it at a park CS. Wherever you may be allowed to trade a TS for a CS, it is a one for one trade, no extras. You may have to trade children's credits for child's menu meals.

CS credits for snacks: This can apparently only be done at a resort CS, not at a park CS or in shops, and it varies as to how many snacks you can get for one CS credit. It has been reported that Captain Cook's at the Polynesian allows three snacks per CS credit, and also that CSR has allowed only one snack per CS credit (not sure if this was at Pepper Market or Rix Cafe).

You can never trade your credits up. There is no way to combine CS credits to purchase a TS meal.

We stayed at POP last year and we had 7 cs left. I walked out with a bag of 21 Mickey head marshmallow treats, straight up 3 4 1.
