Only by the time we were able to reserve tickets, most flights were sold out and our flight costs jumped from $900 to $1600. My friends and I are freaking out a little bit at this point because we've been having a hard enough time raising money as it is with the original goal in mind of $7,700 total for the team.
So we're grasping at all the straws we can at this point. I've been active on other disboards (budget board and WISH) and they take up so much of my time that I haven't explored any other places. I hope you forgive this being my first post in this specific area.
Here's the details as I just emailed out to my friends and family:
I'm joining a team of 7 heading to Trogir, Croatia to convert an old ferry into the Logos Hope which will replace the Logos II as part of Operation Mobilisation's ship ministry.
Their ship ministry's main focus is Literature, bringing into port a wide variety of books for countries that don't have any other way of getting them. But they also do things like train missionaries (every crew member is also a missionary in training), help mobilize and support the local church at the ports they visit, evangelize in the ports whenever possible, and offer aid (plant trees, work at/on orphanages, etc).
The Logos Hope is currently in Refitting stage and they need all the hands they can get to get projects done. That's where my team comes in, providing we can get there. We just received word that we've been approved and they are expecting us. Not only that but we aren't going to have to pay for our room and board, only our flight to get there. Originally it was going to be about $200 each for our entire two week stay. The bad news however is that most of the flights are sold out, or close to being so. The only seats we have been able to put a reservation on will be costing us a little over $1600 each. We'd been expecting it'd be around $900.
All told we need $11,500 for our entire team. Combined we've been able to raise about $2,500 (that we know of, there may be more en route to the OM office or to our mailboxes that we don't know about). The place that found the tickets for us will make it so we can get the tickets at that price but won't have to pay the balance until May 14th. Less than two weeks away.
