I just got off the phone with Disney Reservation with the rudest woman who I've EVER talked to from Disney. I need to request a non-smoking, non-smoking (like a room that nobody has ever smoked in) for my trip next month. I have the reservation already so I called Disney I spoke with an extremely rude CM (actually I don't even want to consider her a CM) who was very rude telling me that smoke doesn't linger and that they have been non-smoking for a very long time. However, from my past experience smoke has lingered in hotel rooms and because of allergies and asthma, I need a room that has never been smoked in ever.

I got nowhere with her except she made me extremely irritated and mad. I called 407-WDisney. Does anybody know a better number I can call and request this information? This is my first trip to WDW with my DBF and I don't want to spend it in the CentraCare facility getting breathing treatments!

Thanks for any help in advance (and for letting me vent!)

It may work if you look at some older maps of your resort and see what floors/wings were the nonsmoking areas and then put a request for that floor/wing on your reservation. Depending on which resort you are staying at some of them have been recently renovated as well. And, some people are reporting that smokers are ignoring the rules and smoking anyway so there are no guarantees. Just try to do your best ahead of time and check it out when you get there and if it's not good then change rooms.:)

THere should be no problem giving you a former non smoking room, BUT there is no way that Disney can guarantee that no one ever smoked in a non smoking room. People do it all the time even though they are not suppose to.
You can call the special services line though and ask them about it and see what they say.
Their number is 407 939-7807

I know that they can't guarantee it, sadly it's just the way it is today. However, I should have said in the OP (I was just really ticked off at the time) that I just want a non-smoking room that was a former non-smoking room. When we called this summer for one, it was no problem...I'm guess it was just the CM. :confused3

Thank you for the special services line. I'll give them a call a little later today.

And it probably WONT be a problem as I'm sure the majority of the rooms were non-smoking. But as you already know, they will not promise you one. And if anyone did promise you one, they should be careful in case they cant come thru on that promise.

What hotel are you staying at and maybe someone could tell you which ones were former smoking ones. ie: at CSR the former smoking wing was Cabana 9A.

They don't know what ones were or were not. The only reason they knew before is that it stated it infront of them.

As the PP stated you have more of a chance now of someone smoking when they are not suppose to then before with the current rules in place.

So what you do is when you get to your room if you detect any signs of smoke go down and ask to be moved to another room. This is the only way to be sure your not in a room tha smells if smoke.

Good luck

I took MickiethePooh's advice and called the special guest services number and the woman was able to help me out. Sadly, I know my medical history (I've been in 2 ERs in 2 different states on 2 different days on vacation in 2005) so I know that smoke can really make me miserable and make it difficult to breath, even if it is stale smoke.

I think the thing that upset me the most was the lack of customer service that the woman showed. I usually don't get upset about things like that, but she was just out right rude to me. She had a very condescending attitude, very un-Disney like.

Thanks for all of the advice! :)

Sorry they were so rude to you...

Problem is that they can't guarantee the room was never smoked in......
I have walked into rooms that were slated as nonsmoking and it was obvious that someone decided to smoke in the room....

Few months ago DH & I checked into the WL at 5 a.m (we had major flight issues) walked into the room & I knew my asthma was going to act up. Called the front desk & they said they were sold out...I explained the situation and her answer was open the sliding glass door!

Some people just don't get it!

What did you do? I've always worried about a situation like this. I'm curious how they handled it

Used my inhaler took Benydryl & Zyrtec. Later that morning they still said they couldn't move us and it wasn't until the 3rd day that they had a room available.
We ended up moving to the Poly the next night and then back to VWL. We received no refund at all!

i have heard you can ask for a TOTAL cleaning to the room before hand..it will cost YOU the extra money but can be done.,.,
I would NOT give up on this one...keep calling OR CALL the POP DIRECTLY and speak to a MGR :

Concidering the whole property is non smoking now and that CMs have no control over what a guest is or isn't going to do in a room. And I doubt that every CM has first hand knowledge of what rooms have been smoked in.

It seems to me you were asking for the impossible from some one that didn't have the power or authority to promise it to you.

I think the feeling was mutual with the CM. IMHO

The non smoking policy in resort rooms has been around since July 1, 2006. Well over a year ago. It's quite possible that this Cast Member didn't even know that Disney resort rooms used to be smoking and non smoking. So having someone say that they needed a room that has never been smoked in would be quite puzzling to the Cast Member.

Actually, I believe it just started this past July 1st (2007). :) and believe me, if you walk into a room that was a former smoking room - you'll sure know it!

I'm sorry you ran into a rude CM. Even if there was no way for her to "guarantee" a never been smoked in room, she could have been nice about it. I would have just called back and hoped for a better CM - some of them are super nice and helpful while others are just doing the bare minimum to survive - just like the "real world", I guess.

Sorry, that's not correct - WDW resorts eliminated all smoking rooms and established designated smoking areas at the resorts on July 1 2007, not 2006. So the policy has only been in effect for a little over 4 months.

Not knowing the policy would still not have been an excuse for the CM to be rude to OP. There is no excuse for a CM to be rude - even if the CM is dealing with a beligerent drunk at Tambu or Outer Rim or Pleasure Island.

Movie quote time: I want you to be nice. Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you, and you'll both be nice. I want you to remember that it's a job. It's nothing personal.

I had them note that I was requesting a previously non smoking room. Our older DD was a preemie with lung issues and is very sensitive to smoke. The person at CR was very nice and said that she would note it. That's all that you can do unfortunately. I stayed in a moderate chain hotel in Atlanta last week in a room designated non smoking, it even had a "thank you for not smoking" sign on the chairside table. Well, as soon as my head hit the pillow I started to smell it. No place is perfect unfortunately.
