I need your help! I don't know what to do (or maybe I do know and I just dont' wanna do it :worried:!) As soon as the availability for free dining came out, I booked it for my dm and I for sept 13-20. Woohoo! Well, it was a "woohoo" moment until she backed out of the trip last week. Everything has already been paid for including room, mywpasses, mnsshp tix, non-refundable rt flights, and even kttkt! Even though I wasn't happy about it, I had decided on a solo trip, and I also decided that I'd beg my fellow single/solo dissers to meet me down there ::yes::

The problem: I called today to remove her from the ressie. I guess I was foolishly expecting that I could be refunded the mnsshp and kttkt bookings along with a significant portion of the park passes and stuff. The magical answer from AAA was ":rotfl2: HAHA are you stupid???" Actually, it wasn't quite that bad, I'm exagerating a little:rolleyes:....What I did discover is that dm would only be getting back about a 1/4 of what she paid. The alternative is that I cancel the entire ressie and rebook (this time it would have to be without free dining but would be okay due to the new code out.) I'm still stuck with an extra space in the kttkt and an extra ticket to mnsshp... that I really can't afford to pay for on my own...

The question of the day is, is it really worth all of the trouble???? I'm so stressed and disappointed. My mom wants ALL of the money she paid back *excluding her flight.* I'm really at the point to where I just forget about it and pitch my tent at the Disney Outlet store for a week. Now that would be interesting....

Any thoughts??? Opinions?? Insightful psychological analyzations??

Well, personally I say your mother is out of luck if she cancelled after telling you she was going.....and I went thru this same experience in March which led to my first ever SOLO trip which btw I loved....I had rented a condo (which I would have never did for a solo ) paid everything in advance of course and the other party backed out. At first I was upset then decided to just go for it :) of course this meant I was driving alone....(would have flown had I been going solo) but if I had flown I would have then had to rent car as well to get to condo....
I say you go solo and have a good time ...pitching a tent at Disney OUtlet would be an interesting Adventure but not quite as much fun I am thinking:rotfl2:

Is there any way to get her to change her mind? It sounds like a great trip you have planned!

Awe Rebecca. ..you need to let your mom know that when she backed out at the last minute she placed a hardship burden on you. You really are not obligated to pay her back anything that you do not get back from AAA or Disney. I do suggest taking the Solo trip though. You will have a blast. I am ABSOLUTELY sure there will be other solo disers there at the same time. As far as Mnsshp tix. There could possibly be someone out there who just happens to want a tix at the same time you are going. . .

...and yet again another reason why I book soley thru Disney only....at least on packages you have 45 days to back out and if room only you can back out at last week

:lmao: i know:lmao: but that is the one thing I have never understood when it is so easy to just go to the DW site and book it yourself...

I know... i know... it's just that I got sucked into the smell of the big fat aaa discount which saved me $270 on top of the free dining...::yes::

lol..I have NEVER known anyone that got a discount like that so WOW, in fact everyone I talked to ended up paying more thru AAA than if they booked on site.... Will they let you chg your moms ressie to someone else maybe get a cousin, friend etc to go

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I asked a couple more of my friends and one of them said "f*%# yeah I'd love to f$^@%&g go!" (He's a ::cop: :rotfl2: ) I was all excited until he said "Isn't that where that f&$*@)^g mouse is??" :sad2: After a quick reminder, he became all excited and now I'm kinda pissed that I didn't just leave it alone, suck it up, and decide to go by myself with enthusiasm :lmao:

I'm not a princess when it comes to my mouth but OMG! Every other word is F-this F-that, Fing blah blah blah! it's amusing for about 2 minutes then you begin to wonder if he has another vocabulary stashed in that brain of his.

If wishes were horses and all that stuff.... I know it is hard to do sometimes when it is family, but just because your mother wants all her money back doesn't mean she is going to get all her money back. She is the one who backed out and so imho she is the one who has to absorb the lost money. I mean don't you want Not to pay for her loss? And yes, I would go by yourself and have a blast and offer to see if you can sell your mom's ticket for her. But she may be able to sell it on EBay or Craig's List herself..

One idea - let your Mom call AAA. They can explain to her directly what is or is not refundable. That way they get to be the "bad guy" when telling her you only get a small % of your $$ back. Takes you out of the middle.

That's a good idea about having her call AAA. I have another friend who said that he'd like to go. He isn't as crazy about the mouse as I am, but at least he knows who he is & he does really enjoy going to dw. I just feel like anyone who says they want to go is likely to back out at the last minute :confused3
Money's tight for everyone right now... even for me (I just have my priorities right :thumbsup2 )

I cannot imagine ANYONE backing out of a disney trip!

I LOVE this idea. . .

Okay, so here's the update- I want to not only keep the peace, but make sure my mom is happy. Afterall, she's the only one I have. I'm giving her a refund of the money she paid, minus the airfare. I know...I know... but, I do remember telling her back in April that if something happened I purchased trip-insurance as a "just in case." I just feel like it's the right thing to do in my heart. :)

You did the right thing. She is the only one you got.

Have a wonderful time!

That's very good of you to give her a full refund minus the airfare, Rebecca. I'm glad you're still planning to go -- we're going to have a great time once we're all at Disney. What date are you headed to MNSSHP?

I'll be at MNSSHP on the 16th. When are you going Care?

Rebecca, it looks like we're going to MNSSHP on the same day. Have you decided if you're going in costume? I'm leaning toward Lilo, but need to find a suitable dress (or, shudder, sew one). I think my sister Karen is going as Minnie.
