I'm scared of Boma's menu

I was just looking at a link posted for the Boma menu & I'm kind of scared. We will be there in June, myself, DH, DD13, DD9 & DS9. My kids have always been meat & potato kids (not just burgers) and I'm beginning to wonder if the food is going to be TOO different than what they & DH are used to. Do they have enough other regular foods or should we try somewhere else.

As far as buffets, my kids hated the plain-jane H&V for dinner in April, but absolutely LOVED CP at MK. Are there any other buffets of that caliber out there on DDP?

There is plenty of "normal" food. There are lots of tried and true menu choices your kids will love.

There are also plenty of absolutely wonderful "new" dishes that you'll likely enjoy, too.

Keep in mind it's perfectly OK to take a bit or two of something new, try it, and see what you think. My first trip to the buffet there I took just a bite or two of about 5 dishes, and then went back for seconds with my favorites.

I think you'd be sorry if you passed on Boma. The atmosphere, service, food, it's first rate.

My kids are 21, 15, 13 and 10 and they love Boma, we have eaten there everytime we visit wdw. I say try it, I think your kids will enjoy the food.

For every unusual item, there are probably two regular items. I have two DS's that I would consider picky eaters but they like BOMA too--this is our first meal of every trip. This is a huge buffet and while there may be a few dishes that scare the nonadventurous, most of the dishes are quite normal food. The meat station is excellent and my picky eaters just skip the side sauces they offer but love the meat. There has always been potato wedges available along with normal type of salads, fruits and desserts.

And the great thing is that since it's a buffet, you can take a little taste and if you don't like it, you can move onto something else without wasting a ton of unwanted food.

I think Boma is an excellent buffet. The foods served are very flavorful, full of spices but not spicy. Even the vegetables have a wonderful flavor to them. If you get to Boma and find it isn't exactly what you expected, ask if there is availability at Jiko which is right across the hall. It isn't a buffet and pricier than Boma, but it is an excellent option as well.

I have very picky eaters for children and they requested breakfast and dinner here. They loved it in February. I also have a very picky DH and he really enjoyed it too. Do not be afraid!! Go for it!! You will not regret eating there.

Your family may surprise you with what they are willing to try. But don't worry, there are enough "safe" things at Boma that nobody will go hungry.

DH is a true "meat and potatoes" man, and even he loved Boma.

It is our families favorite buffet at Disney...and we have tried them all!

The real question is, why are Boma's Menu's so much scarier than the rest. I think its the especially sharp edges. :rotfl2:

I am a shockingly picky eater, but when my now-fiance and I went to Boma last March I had a great meal. I found myself trying things I never would have eaten that I have now added to the very short list (specifically new spices I wouldn't have thought I would have liked).

I would absolutely give it a shot.

They'll be fine. :)

There's lots of more traditional selections (the prime rib, the salads, some of the potatoe dishes and rices) on the buffet. In addition, there's a kids "pod" to the buffet, with mac and cheese, chicken fingers, and the like on it. There are PLENTY of adults who eat off that "pod" too, so no one will feel out of place.

The NICE thing is, even if they're relatively picky, they have the OPTION to try new stuff that looks good to them. If they don't like it, they're not "stuck" with just that on their plate....they can push the plate to the side and head back up for something else more to their liking.

Don't worry, they have regular stuff like chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese, but their food is so excellant, I never bother with that stuff. You have to try the soups there, they are out of this world.

Have your kids seen the menu for Boma yet? If not, don't show it to them. I'll bet they don't even notice that things are a bit more adventurous than they are used to. My husband loves the steak - it's a bit spicy but not that bad. I ate it and I think mild taco sauce needs to have a side of water to put out the fire in my mouth. I love the chicken there. And, like with any Disney buffet, there are the "comfort foods". The usual kids stuff although adults sure can eat from there too.

My husband is a carnivore but he actually tried a ton of veggie dishes here when we ate with a vegetarian friend. My son (also a carnivore but not as much as his dad) probably ate the entire salad bar. One hint on the salads - combine two of the dressings if you think the tastes will be too exotic. That's why my son grazed like a cow that evening.

We haven't gone to Boma for a while because my husband said he doesn't want to over eat yet again (we ate there three times in one year).

Don't worry about it. The food there is VERY good. Its also really cool to try and sample all the different foods from Africa.

I can only remember getting the sun dried tomato dip because it was the best thing I had there.

Just don't worry because the food there is very, very good.

I promise you our DS 7 is the absolute pickiest eater around and he loved  Boma. It was definitely his best meal of the trip! We were with a party of 12 and everyone enjoyed their meal! Go for it!

You can only make three mistakes at Boma:

1. Having a Mickey ice cream bar too soon before you get there.

2. Not trying the zebra. (Relax, it's just a desert. :rotfl: )

3. Not going! :lmao:

Boma is a must do! We've taken extremely picky kids and adults there. EVERYONE has loved it. You can be as cautious or adventurous as you like.

Go hungry. Go a little early for your ADR. Go early in your trip. Trust me. You'll want to go back.

You will have a great meal at Boma. I am a picky eater and I love this place. It is actually one of my favorites. I can choose to have the chicken or prime rib without any sauces for a plain meal while my BF can put the sauces on it for something more adventurous and spicier.

I love trying the different food because I know I can just take a little and go back for the ones I like...who knew I would like curry potato salad...now I hope it is out when I am there.

Really, give it a try, I believe you will be happy you did.

:) Our family loves BOMA. So much that we are going to have dinner their in June and we are staying at Universal this time. It's worth the drive to AKL!

I have to say we finally tried Boma in September. I think we have tried almost all of the restaurants in our trips. I have to say we have two boys 10 and 13 and I personally would not eat there again. I tried it but did not find it worthy of a return. I found the food to be odd and not what I expected. So many people said they love it. It was inconvenient to get to the restaurant, if you are not staying at AK , we had to go to Downtown Disney and switch busses to get back to our hotel. Keep that in mind when making reservations. t The food was different and Ok but definately not great.

We really liked it and I think you would find plenty for everyone. I hope to be able to fit it into to our next trip because some of the dishes were fantastic.
