I'm scared of Boma's menu

I am a picky eater: I don't eat any beef, pork, poultry or fish but I also won't eat tofu or anything that I consider strange looking.
I LOVED Boma. I plan on going at least twice during our next trip and I plan on trying it for breakfast too.
If I can find things to eat there and fill my plate three times, your picky eaters should have no problems at all.

You can only make three mistakes at Boma:

1. Having a Mickey ice cream bar too soon before you get there.

2. Not trying the zebra. (Relax, it's just a desert. :rotfl: )

3. Not going! :lmao:

Boma is a must do! We've taken extremely picky kids and adults there. EVERYONE has loved it. You can be as cautious or adventurous as you like.

Go hungry. Go a little early for your ADR. Go early in your trip. Trust me. You'll want to go back.

I'd also add trying to make a late ADR at another restaurant even if you eat there early. :scared1: We ate so much there and felt so ill the rest of trip. This time we're eating at Boma at 4:30 and not planning on anything else afterward. We can always grab an ice cream later on at PI...or :drinking1

I loved the atmophere of Boma but I did not like the spices they used. I like many differnt foods and I ate off the kids buffet. I was gald that I tried it but I would not go back.

I absoluely loved the coconut curried chicken stew!! There were so many other things that I can't remember, but I'll definitely eat there again. Oh, and those Zebra Domes are o die for. When I come home from the college program I'm packing a cooler full of them.

I'm trying it for the first time in Feb. I also love CP I am going to sample all the soups and as many of the african foods as I can. I love prime rib so will have to have that, but I want to try all the different foods ' I fully expect to not like some and love others. Then the next time I go I will know a few I love and a few to avoid while I try some new . Boma is the only place I will get the chance to try African cuisine!!

This thread can basically be locked right now. This thread almost perfectly represents Boma. Send 10 families to Boma, 8 will LOVE it, one will be kinda so-so, and one family will be the "whats all this weird food?" type people.

If it was was weird crazy food that no one liked, they wouldn't be booked almost every night. I've eaten there a handful of times, and its always great. Boma never lets me down, and after one to many zebra domes, I leave moaning and wishing I hadn't eaten so much.

Its always funny seeing that one family that isn't happy there. Last time I was there, I was grabbing some of their wonder soups, and heard a middle aged mom talking her what I can guess was her husband and 2 teenage kids. With a big southern drawl she said, "I don't know what most crap is, but at least they have chicken nuggets!" I then watched, while trying not to laugh, as all 4 of them each mounded their plate full of nothing but mac-n-cheese, chicken nuggets, and spaghetti.

I think it it booked very night because for some reason people love to eat lots and lots of food. They love to be able to keep going up for me even if it is not really that great. My city is filled with tons of Chinese buffets that basically serve crap, but they are jammed packed every night of the week because people want lots of food for their money. I'm not saying that Boma is a bad restaurant or that they serve crap by any means, but given the choice I'd pick Jiko over Boma any day.

This is our families favorite restaurant. There is plenty of variety including food that any picky eater would like. It's also a great place to try some new foods that your family might really like.

I'm a picky eater, and I looked over the menu and...yuck!

There are only like 3 things that don't look gross.

Then again, maybe I'm just really really picky :confused3

I was with a party of 8 when we ate at Bomas last Aug. I think that half of the party would return and half would not. I am part of the half that would not return to Bomas. I do not like curry and I was always afraid that the dishes contained this spice. My husband thinks that I am insane because he loved the food.

I am a shockingly picky eater, but when my now-fiance and I went to Boma last March I had a great meal. I found myself trying things I never would have eaten that I have now added to the very short list (specifically new spices I wouldn't have thought I would have liked).

I would absolutely give it a shot.

Lowell sums it up nicely. I am a foodie, but DW and DDs are very picky. They are pretty much meat and potatoes people, and they don't want anything "funny" with their meat or potatoes. (funny= anything other than salt, pepper, and butter on the potatoes). They love Boma, and I do too.
It has become our favorite dinner spot in WDW. I suggest you give it a try.
If it's a bust, there are lots of places to grab popcorn, burgers, and chicken nuggets.:earsboy:

I know this one is a favorite on the DIS, but.... We went as a party of 5- me, dh, my mom, dd 8, and dd6 (kids ages at the time). Mom, DD, and I are not picky eaters, the guys are. None of us were happy with the food at all. I'm not sure where everyone is finding these "normal" selections- the only place we found them was on the kids buffet and the dessert bar. Chicken fingers all around! I even TRIED a whole plate full of different stuff before resorting to chicken fingers- it was all horrible.

When I first read the menu for Boma, I was scared too. But I heard wonderful reviews of the place, so I convinced the sweetpea to give it a try. And you know what?....she loved it. And she is sort of a picky eater. She had to try a plate of "different" foods first before she went to the chicken fingers. She was happy with all the stuff she tried. So much that the next visit, she asked to go back. I was not expecting that. I have also taken my mother to Boma, and she is beyond picky.

I went to Boma last month with a party of 8 (me, DH and girls 22, 20, 19, 13, 11 and 8). We probably will return at some point, although definitely not on our next trip. The reason we won't be rushing back is because the service was abysmal and it tainted our entire experience. However, I had no complaints about the food. I expected to enjoy it, and I did. I worried a bit about my kids, but the younger ones found plenty of "normal" food to eat, and actually tried and enjoyed some of the more exotic choices. For every one they liked, they found one they didn't, but there were so many choices that it wasn't a problem, and I was pleased that they tried as much as they did. Of course, they still prefer the Trail's End buffet - gourmets they are not . . . .

We eat here every vacation. Love the variety of food. Laughing (nice laugh not a mean one) at the wierd food comments. My kids love it there too and we have been going since they opened. I can't wait to have some of the olive hummus...my favorite. I have tried almost everything there and love it. The main chicken, beef, fish entrees are great. if you have very limited tastes or like really bland food you might not like it but other than that....its heaven:cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Well prime rib is prime rib. Their chicken is...chicken. Same goes for the salmon. It may have a seasoning on it, but its no foreign food you've never seen before. Fufu is just mashed potatoes and some cinnamon. The soups are all pretty basic, no tiger tail or hippo feet. They are just chicken, seafood, I remember a mushroom one last time I was there, etc. I'm not a big salad person, so I'll pass on those. The deserts were sorta basic. I didn't get any, but I remember cookies, brownies, and dried fruit. I know they have a chocolate moose.

All in all, its just personal opinion as is almost every thread in this forum. Some people just have a very "americanized" diet yet foolishly think they will magically like African food. I don't know if they expect pizza and hamburgers in the shape of africa, and cupcakes with black and white stripes for desert or what.
