:lmao:

Just recieved my big $5.00 check from the State on NJ for jury duty.
I think the paper plus postage probably cost more than the check.

;) I think I'll blow my budget and go get a Rita's gelato on this hot day.

Is that one day or how long? I think the pay here is around $20 a day..it has been a few years since I served so it is prob. more now.

$5.00?! I had jury duty on a murder trial last October so it lasted almost 3 weeks. But I made $360.00.

1 day. We get 5 bucks a day for the first 3 days and then after that it's 20 bucks a day.

Will that $5 even cover a Rita's gelato? :)

lol but seriously, no wonder people will do anything to get out of it if that's all they pay

Did you have any change left after the gelato? :upsidedow Jeez I hope the trial was at least interesting!

Remember to save some to pay taxes on it. :scared1: It's taxable income. :lmao:

At least you get the $5! I am a municipal employee and they dont give
it to us!

Same here! I actually really enjoyed my day in May. I had a nice time chatting and lunching with 3 ladies that I met there. I do lunch duty every day at school so it was fun to hang with grown ups and I never even went to a courtroom!;)

UGGG, jury duty, I spend way too much time in a courtroom because of my job and was not thrilled last year when I was called in JULY.....no air conditioning. 150 people like cattle jammed into a little room, tvs not on, three day old newspapers and nobody ever knew what was happening. I kept hoping that I would get picked to be questioned and they would see the error of their ways and release me because of my job.....never happened. We were still sitting there at 5:30 pm and had not been released. Luck was on my side, the murder suspect that I had been picked to be on the jury for, showed up at the courthouse two hours late, asked his public defender for $1.00 to get a cup of coffee, took the $1.00 jumped on the bus and they didn't find him for three days. Thank goodness for the stupidity of criminals, he got us all released and his butt thrown back into jail. :rotfl:

By the way in PA we get $7.00 but it costs us $4.00 to park, and than if you want to eat from 8 am until 5:30 that also costs $$$. I showed them, I had my DH drop me off, I packed a cooler with my lunch and drinks. Than my company docked me the $7.00 I earned from my regular salary because that's what I earned for the day and they weren't going to pay me too.:rotfl:

I'm lucky, my company not only pays me for jury duty but lets me keep the check. I made $43.20 for a weeks worth of duty. I think I forgot to claim it on my taxes though....ooops!

Here in Massachusetts we don't get paid for jury duty if our job pays for it - I was empaneled on a jury for two days - including my birthday - and I had to pay for parking plus we could only buy our coffee/midmorning snack and lunch from a "convenient", over-priced lunch truck in the parking lot.

I have to agree with the PP who said it's tacky to flaunt your newfound wealth. :rotfl:

I suppose you'll be treating yourself to some sort of gourmet treat like a five-course meal off the McDonald's dollar menu or whatever else rich people do. Must be nice... :lmao:
