A local restaurant ( I won't metion any names but the initials are OC and it sounds rather Irish) is the source for a local outbreak of Hepatitis A. Initally, the public was told that if you ate there between 9/5 and 9/14 you might have been exposed to the virus, and that you could go to the health department and get a free inoculation. Well all was fine...we hadn't eaten there between those dates. NOW, they come out and say that the inoculation is only good for 14 days and the previous window (9/5 - 9/14) actually reflected the dates for people who could benefit from the shot. People who ate there earlier may have been exposed but the shot will do them no good. We ate there on 9/3! Our wonderful local news can't seem to keep this straight. They are telling people that they only need to worry if they consumed uncooked foods such as salads and ICED DRINKS! Give me a break...we are supposed to wate up to four more weeks to see is we develop symptoms.
