I'm pregnant and due in March 2016! And we have a trip planned in June...

......

At 6-8 months, travel becomes awesome. They are vaccinated, not quite mobile, and awake/interactive enough to benefit from travel. And nearly all illness can be cured with time, Motrin, and/or a simple antibiotic- no ER likely needed......

WHAT?!!

If you really believe this, I hope you educate yourself very soon about common diseases and treatments! Antibiotics work for bacterial disease only and are very over prescribed. Many diseases cannot be treated with just ibuprofen either.

OP, I personally wouldn't travel with such a young baby. There are too many things which could happen between now and then which could interrupt your trip; what if the baby has issues or you have a difficult delivery? At the very least, get travel insurance (although make sure it covers pre-existing conditions, ie pregnancy) if you will lose money if you have to cancel.

I would not take a baby that young in that kind of heat. There's just no good way to keep the baby cool and prevent sunburn. I know some pediatricians are saying that sunscreen is okay if there's no other option, but it's not best. Disney World isn't going anywhere, but those first few baby months are fleeting. I have a 2 month old right now. Trips to the zoo are okay, but we wouldn't go to the zoo every day for a week.

I took my daughter this past September when she was 2 months old. We had a great trip. We also took our two year old son. It worked best for us to have a stroller for each kid, since my daughter and I took many air conditioned breaks, while my husband and son stayed in the parks. I talked about the trip with our pediatrician before we left and she felt it was fine to travel with our daughter that young. Good luck in whatever you decide and congrats!

We went with a 5 month old last fall and its was fine. Just like others have said, you'll just have to set appropriate expectations for everyone regarding pacing, etc. And yes, note the baby care center's locations. IIRC, most are near park entrances, which can be inconvenient, imo, but there's plenty to even keep the 5 year old occupied in there if needed.

I personally don't feel that the vaccination issue should be a determining factor, because unless you are not planning on leaving your home the entire first 2 months then that is really kind of irrelevant - especially having an older child in the home. However, from my own experience the transition from 1 to 2 kids was by far more difficult that having 1 child or going from 2 to 3. How you felt or the energy you had after your first could be very different from how it will be after your second. At the same time your older child may benefit from the trip as the new baby will be demanding of your time and the focus will be heavily on the baby during that time. Would it be possible for your husband and your 5 year old to take a Daddy/Daughter or Daddy/Son trip to Disney? I know it sucks to have to stay home and miss Disney but that way you can have some special bonding time with just you and the baby and your 5 yr. old gets some special one on one time with their dad. The main thing to remember is you have to do what YOU feel is right for YOUR family. There is no right or wrong in this situation - just finding what is a good answer for y'all. Congrats on the new little one!!!

We took our boys for the first time at almost 2 and 3 months. I wore my little guy most of the time. It was much easier than I thought it would be. When he was awake, there was so much for him to look at. I had two happy little boys! :)

I would not take a baby that young to WDW. I can't imagine it being very much fun for the baby or for myself and my family.

You just never know what to expect when you have a baby. Some babies are really colicky, don't sleep well etc and others are easy breezy. Trouble is, you never know which you are getting until they are here! You also don't know how you will be feeling and after having 2 kids of my own, I can't imagine being up for that kind of trip only a month or so after giving birth.

WDW isn't going anywhere so if it were me, I'd reschedule and save yourself the worry and stress. You will probably have much more fun planning and enjoying the trip when your baby is a little more independent and you've had time to recover and adjust.

The real risk IMO is if baby gets sick right before or during the trip. That's not an age that you want to be taking health risks with and/or dealing with a sick/cranky infant. :D I planned a similar trip with our first child when she was 6 months old - but it was a cruise. Well, Murphy's Law kicked in and she got sick the very day went started our trip. She was an absolute crank the entire trip and didn't sleep well at all. We learned our lesson. :D We're also limited by the summer month's because my wife is a teacher. It's a major bummer, but maybe you should look at doing a smaller, more local vacation this year and push the Disney vacay to the following year. That 1 year+ age is pretty perfect in that they are mostly stroller bound still, but old enough to go on a lot of the rides.

I wouldn't take a baby that young to WDW. IMO it's too hot and the risk of illness/germs is too great.

I'm prepared to get crucified for this next suggestion, Could you shorten the trip to maybe 5 days and leave the baby with grandparents? My children were 11 years apart. When DD19 was born in late Spring, we didn't want to take her on our planned beach trip for all of the above reasons. Grandma came to our house to stay and they had a lovely bonding time.

It worked for us. Before people jump on me too much. I wouldn't leave an infant for 10 days but 5 was doable for me.

I wouldn't take a baby that young during the summer. It is just too hot. Our DD was born last June (she just turned a year old), we were supposed to go to WDW in October, but I couldn't take a trip right after returning from maternity leave so...we considered going during maternity leave. Ultimately, I decided to cancel the plans because I couldn't take a newborn to WDW during that time of year....during Nov- March (maybe). I was also concerned with vaccinations or lack thereof really. You also don't know what kind of sleeper you are going to have....if you are up every hour with a baby, you aren't going to want to tour a park.

Other people feel differently, and I did see some newborns during our trip this past May. That just wasn't for me. She did have her first trip this past May at 10 months. I think we all enjoyed it more than if we had taken her last summer/early fall.

We went with a 9 week old in September/October. We had a blast! We kept him out of the sun and used fans to keep him cool. He was too little to touch anything, so I wasn't worried too much about germs. We were very meticulous about hand washing, especially before touching him. We took long dining breaks in the AC, cut our days short, and just took things slow. It was an amazing trip and he was very easy - just went with the flow. You can read about our trip if you want - it is linked in my signature!

Another tip for going during hot times... Get a good cooling towel ( like frogg toggs or another brand). When baby wearing put the cooling towel between you and baby...it keeps you both cool.

With currently having a 2 month old I would take her down to Disney now. We are going in October, but if we went now I would be okay with that. You can talk to your doctor about doing the 2 month shots early so they would have their vaccines. The only thing that I would be super concerned about is the heat and sun. You can use sunscreen on a baby until 6 months. So as long as you plan on a good way to shade your little one and take frequent AC breaks you should be fine.

You'll get lots of interesting (and often conflicting) advice when you ask a questions like this. I took our 10 week old last year from (Nova Scotia) to Disney, and both of my Drs and their nursing staff were nothing but supportive of the trip. In fact my Dr said "taking your child on a plane is no more dangerous than taking them anywhere else in public."

I tried to exercise as mush as possible while pregnant so that I stayed in decent shape, which made delivery and recovery easier. I also tried to get back to walking pretty soon after delivery so that I was ready to tackle the walking I knew I'd be doing on the trip. I understand that everyone's delivery is different and that some can't do this, but I was fortunate that I was back to a (very) basic exercise routine within 2 weeks of baby's arrival. I was mostly driven by the fact that I wanted to feel as good as possible by the time we traveled.

We had a wonderful trip - we just learned that we need to be a bit more easygoing about the way we "do disney". We missed most park openings, and rode less rides that we did without a baby, but had a wonderful experience. The baby care centers are amazing, I recommend using them even if it's just for a break. If you want to read about my experience, I wrote a blog about it which you can access here:

Travelling with Baby

Enjoy the trip and congrats on the new addition!

We travelled in to Disney in May 2011 and my daughter was 3 months old. We also took or sons age 3 and 5. I found it quite easy with her at that age, we took both a pushchair and a connecta solarweave sling. To sling was the best thing we took, it meant we could go in and out of lines without disturbing her at all. She slept a lot of the time and planned meals around times she would need feeding. We have just booked to go back next April when my daughter will be 5 and can enjoy all the things she slept through!!

Thanks for everyone's input and advice! We've still got a lot of time to decide, but I'm starting to have a plan formed for if we do continue with the trip. We'll definitely upgrade our resort, and we're not commando park tourists by any means but I'm thinking of adding extra park days so we can slow down even more and have plenty of time and take lots of breaks.

The vaccinations are a very good point and I'll be sure and speak to our doctor about it. We won't be flying.

I've gone with a 5 and a 7 month old before. I also have flown with a 4 week old, a 6 week old, and an 8 week old (and older babies too). Honestly I won't stress to much about the whole baby going part. The biggest thing will be are you up for it. I know that 5 to 8 weeks after birth even with my c-sections I was okay for travel to visit my parents and I was even okay going to friend's weddings. That being said I am not sure I would have been up for a huge multi-day Disney trip. I personally would push it off until August if I could, but really that would more be issues with me rather then baby.

I think you'll be fine if your baby has had all their vaccinations, which I think are at 2 months now. Go to the parks early in the morning and in the early evenings to avoid the big crowds and hot sun. This way the baby and mommy can take naps in the afternoon and be refreshed.

We went with both our babies when they were 3 months old and it went great. Just take it easy and curb your expectations.. try not to do everything. The baby swaps work great. You'll be fine.
