I'm Ordering a big BLT for Thanksgiving 2010 NEW 12/3 started TR! see link

Magic Kingdom

Cosmic Rays - I like it.....nothing here I really crave....but I'm a sucker for those fixin' bars....I like to make myself a salad with them!

Or

Columbia Harbor House - tuna sandwich here was really good, DH liked his fish and chips. If you eat here early I bet you'd have the place about to yourselves.

Animal Kingdom

FTBBQ- I really enjoyed this meal in 2009. You can order the chicken al a carte so you don't have to get those nasty beans.

Restaurantsarus- Still haven't tried this but it's on the list again for the next trip.

Disney Hollywood Studios

We should eat here 1 to 2 times a lunch and possible dinner

Studio Catering Co - I have never liked the menu at this place....even thou they keep changing it!

Backlot Express - I've eaten here a few times (years ago) but I much prefer the Sunset Market area on Sunset Blvd...there is like 4 different places with a common seating area there. Let me know if you need me to list the names of the CSs here so you can see the menus.

Epcot

World Showcase picks:

Yakitori House in Japan- nothing on the menu here appeals to me so I've never eaten here.

Liberty Inn in USA - I agree it's a great stand by for the kids....but as an adult there are too many other good places to eat in WS

Tangerine Café in Morocco - no thanks......

We must make snack credit stops in Norway and France too! YES!!!

Future World picks:

Sunshine Seasons in the Land, I haven't eaten here since 1984 so I don't think my review would be valid at this point! lol but lots of people love this place.

Electric Umbrella - we are always in WS for meals so this one doesn't appeal to me either.

What about the new Mexican place for lunch? It will be open by the time you go. It will be CS for Lunch and TS for dinner.

Hi Julie!

I'm home....:sad2:. Oh well....all good things must come to an end. I'll have to wait a week or two before approaching Jeff with plans for our next vacation! :lmao:

Looks like the twins had a great birthday! I actually remembered you telling me that their birthday was on the 7th and thought of them while Jeff and I were enjoying our AMAZING dinner at Boma!

How fun that the kids prepared you a Mother's Day feast! I enjoyed being in Florida for Mother's Day, but missed the cute things my boys would have done for me if I had been at home. Your little ones sure love you a ton!

Your CS choices look really good. You have a few of my faves on the list...Cosmic Rays, Flame Tree, Columbia Harbour House, Sunshine Seasons. And of course my VERY favorite.......Tangierine Cafe! YUMMMMM!! We ate at Cosmic Rays and Pecos Bill's on Saturday and enjoyed both. I wish I had been able to pop over to Morocco though! ;)

Have I stopped by yet to welcome you back... I think so, but anyways...hope the cruise and MK were just wonderful!
thanks for all the sweet words and :thumbsup2 on my CS choices

WOW!!! Now THAT is an impressive post!! I love how you tracked what types of foods were offered at each place so you wouldn't be eating the same stuff all week--very smart!!! :thumbsup2

yes....it's a little Dis-obsessed :rolleyes1

Magic Kingdom

Cosmic Rays - I like it.....nothing here I really crave....but I'm a sucker for those fixin' bars....I like to make myself a salad with them!

which restaurant did I just read they don't have the fixin bar anymore  It has to be one of these...cause I just printed menus
Or

Columbia Harbor House - tuna sandwich here was really good, DH liked his fish and chips. If you eat here early I bet you'd have the place about to yourselves.

in 05 or 08 we ate upstairs and it was empty and quiet...nice:cloud9:

Animal Kingdom

FTBBQ- I really enjoyed this meal in 2009. You can order the chicken al a carte so you don't have to get those nasty beans.

this is my top choice for this trip at AK!

Restaurantsarus- Still haven't tried this but it's on the list again for the next trip.
maybe this is the one w/ no fixin bar anymore  ate here in 05...it's ok...but if they can feed Naomi-Ruth it's my second choice for now

Disney Hollywood Studios

We should eat here 1 to 2 times a lunch and possible dinner

Ok seriously why is there no good places to eat [at DHS]...:confused3

Studio Catering Co - I have never liked the menu at this place....even thou they keep changing it! I want to say we ate here back in 1998...but this is what I believe the new menu is from AllEars...

Pressed Tuscan Deli
Chicken Caesar Wrap
Buffalo Chicken (which I read isn't very buffalo-y)
Turkey Club...apple wood bacon, swiss, roasted red pepper, arugul, sunflower panini bread served w/ apple slices or fries...sounds kind of yummy to me
Grilled Vegetable
Greek Salad

Kids
mac and cheese
uncrustable PB & J
chicken nuggets (shown in menu picture)

Backlot Express - I've eaten here a few times (years ago) but I much prefer the Sunset Market area on Sunset Blvd...there is like 4 different places with a common seating area there. Let me know if you need me to list the names of the CSs here so you can see the menus.

Ok so I admit I am intigued byt the Sunset market...but it seems so remote from the main part of the Studios...is that good for less crowds or bad for backtracking  The menus can accomodate Naomi which is a plus and sounds nice too...location is my issue at the moment. I'll keep in mind...thanks

Epcot

World Showcase picks:

Yakitori House in Japan- nothing on the menu here appeals to me so I've never eaten here.

Ok I admit nothing jumps out at me either...but I've read good reviews and I know my inlaws would like it...their kind of place...Sat night potentially will be their only time in Epcot while they are w/ us...

my goals are Soarin, SSE, maybe TT and a good WS meal catering to them not us...all my kids (minus Naomi) like chicken on the bone...so the kid meal would work and it's not nuggets

We ate in Mexico just about every trip...and it's kinda borring at this point...maybe new menu and seating, but w/ it only being lunch wouldn't work on the 2nd day...Ecpot will be dinner. any other choices...Matt does not like fried fish...

Liberty Inn in USA - I agree it's a great stand by for the kids....but as an adult there are too many other good places to eat in WS

yes yes I know...

Tangerine Café in Morocco - no thanks......

really?

We must make snack credit stops in Norway and France too! YES!!!

Future World picks:

Sunshine Seasons in the Land, I haven't eaten here since 1984 so I don't think my review would be valid at this point! lol but lots of people love this place.

Ok I think that date puts me back to eating there then too...I just remember loving looking at the balloons...

the menu sounds good and different then the normal stuff Ok maybe on Sat since Soarin is # 1 and we have to go in the Land anyways this would be a good choice to eat at w/ the GP's has the asian flare menu items too and more choices for the kids...Ok Heidi I am thinking an typing at the same time...

Electric Umbrella - we are always in WS for meals so this one doesn't appeal to me either.

pretty basic yes I agree...but for now for the kid factor outweighing the adults...got to please them too..besides Fall 2011 F&WF and 2 adults alone....see it on my horizon popcorn::

What about the new Mexican place for lunch? It will be open by the time you go. It will be CS for Lunch and TS for dinner.

Ok so what about China CS Lotus Blossom...thoughts :confused3

J~

Oh I forgot to comment on the Lotus Blossom! Dan LOVED this place! He must have eaten the Noodle Bowl at least 3 times the week we were there last spring! They also have very good dumplings! :thumbsup2

no worries just added it to my list during my "thinking" outloud to Heidi's reply ;)

Have to look up the current menu...have not eaten there since 1998 before kids...would be a non Naomi place...but we can probably get her fruit from Norway :confused3

Here are my two cents...
Cosmic Rays - We always end up eating here at least once for the great variety. You guys should be OK with the extra adults, but we find it difficult to deal with the three different "bays" for ordering. We had extra hands when we were there this year so it worked out well. Finding enough seats all together was our biggest issue...

CHH - Love it!! Ate there for the first time last year and visited again this year. Great meal, great seating!

FTBBQ - Love it! Except for the birds... :headache: Actually the only CS place we've eaten at AK.

Restaurantasaurus (sp?) - never eaten there...

DHS - Somehow, with all the time we spend at DHS, the only CS place we've eaten at DHS is Pizza Planet... and that was several years ago... I guess we usually eat TS or spend small chunks of time there then move on and eat at another park... :confused3

Yakitori House - haven't tried...

Liberty Inn - ate there this year, for the first time in several years, and found it very crowded even later in the lunch day (around 2pm). But there were MANY school groups at Epcot that day & I think a bunch of them ate there. Food was OK - chicken nuggets & burgers...

Tangerine Cafe - never eaten there... I think Tim is missing out on some good food by traveling with me... :rolleyes1

Sunshine Seasons - almost ate there this year, but couldn't find anything Alex would eat. (Need to remember to bring PB sandwiches for him next time).

Electric Umbrella - somehow never eaten here... almost ate here this year, but decided to have a snack and wait until we got to Liberty Inn.

We also ate breakfast at our condo every day - I think you'll really like having the flexibility of the DVC kitchen!!

I think overall your choices are great! :thumbsup2

One pro, in my book, is that Electric Umbrella has their own soda stations, so you can refill as need be.
This is probably an illogial thought, but Sunshine Season rocks for vegetarians, so I'd think it would be good for Naomi-Ruth.

where do you eat girl? JK....

I AM looking forward to the kitchen immensely even planning to bake a cake...now that is a first!

Yes LI in Epcot is packed inside but the outside area does not seem to be...

Yakitori house is scratched as of yesterday...Heidi and location/goalss for that Ecpot afternoon made more sense to me.

Birds...yes and ducks...I seem to have more issues w/ the ducks then the birds...looking forward to FTBBQ.

we like pizza planet...but too difficult to try and do a special order pizza for Naomi and I feel bad if we are all eating pizza and she is not. besides she likes her "pizza" the way I make it at home. slice of rice bread w/ pizza sauce and melted rice cheese...tried the GF pizza crust and she won't eat it.

I was often worried too that the kids wouldn't eat at SS in the Land too...but I am hopeful this yr.

This is probably an illogial thought, but Sunshine Season rocks for vegetarians, so I'd think it would be good for Naomi-Ruth.

Totaly not illogical...I saw listed a black bean soup...ever tired that? Naomi-Ruth is so-so w/ beans. But we are trying to get her to eat more green salads. She pracitcally is a veggie beside the few meat products I can prepare for her.

OK so last night I was freaking out ADR Monday was next week but it's still one more week beyond that....

think I have it all figured out and like it...but the morning resort switch is becoming quite the HUMDINGER...pain in my Disney Magic...:headache:

will post soon about that and then onto the list....

J~

Love reading about your dining choices!! We are "planning" a possible trip Tiving week now too so it's helping me get into gear before the 24th.

Here are my opinions FWIW.....

- MK -
Cosmic Rays - eat there often but find the multiple ordering stations difficult since DH, DS9 and DD8 like burgers/nuggets and DD13 and I want the chicken/rib meal.

CHH - LOVE IT, especially the upstairs eating area. :lovestruc

- AK -
FTBBQ - another LOVE IT unless it's hot then we end up at Pizzafari
Restaurantsarus - never tried it

- DHS -
Studio Catering - never been
Backlot - never been
The only CS I can remember eating at is Pizza Planet, the CS options at DHS are seriously lacking! :sad2:

- Epcot -
WS
Yakitori - never been
Liberty Inn - not bad, can take it or leave it
Tangerine Cafe - LOVE IT!
Lotus Blossom Cafe - used to eat there a lot but they changed the menu a few years ago and got rid of their Lotus Blossom special which was our favorite.
FW
Sunshine Seasons -lots of options, we love it
Electric Umbrella - can take it or leave it but the kids like it because it has nuggets.

Well, now my mouth is watering!! Time for me to really get going on planning, I'm off to check menus and put together a plan! We'll have to meet soon - school's almost out!

WOW what a trip you have planned!!!! I have enjoyed catching up on it!! And I can't wait to see your pictures from BLT, what a gorgeous resort with such an amazing view!!

The only place on your list I can really comment on is CHH and I loved it!! It had a lot of different choices and the food was really good!

Now here a way out thought for your DHS day......what taking the boat to the Boardwalk/Beach Club area to have lunch there? I have no idea if that fits in with your touring plans for that day or not but it's something different to do.

Great CS choices! I love how you organized your choices into burger and non-burger options. So smart!

I love Cosmic Rays. The options are great. My SIL is a vegetarian and liked the veggie burger here.

I haven't tried FTBBQ, but have done Restaurantasaurus a few times. When I have the chicken, I'm fine. However both times I ordered the burger, I got sick. So, when I go, I stay away from the burger. But I tend to have stomach issues, so I'm thinking it has something to do with me. My dad has a stomach like steel and it doesn't bother him.

I have had nothing but good experiences at Electric Umbrella and Sunshine Seasons. The choices at Sunshine Seasons is great. And there's lots of seating.

I really hope everything works out with your daughter and the food accomodations. It's so difficult when you have an allergy or sensitivity.

What do you recommend at CHH? We're going to try it for the first time this summer.

Love reading about your dining choices!! We are "planning" a possible trip Tiving week now too so it's helping me get into gear before the 24th.

are you talking Thanksgiving week...seriously, cool we could have a Dis-meet in Disney...I will email you some dates to meet at Panera

Here are my opinions FWIW.....

Yes it is handy to have an extra adult to help w/ ordering...

- DHS -
Studio Catering - never been
Backlot - never been
The only CS I can remember eating at is Pizza Planet, the CS options at DHS are seriously lacking! :sad2:

Ok we need to start a petition :rotfl:

- Epcot -

FW
Sunshine Seasons -lots of options, we love it

good to hear another :thumbsup2 up vote...

You know that isn't a bad idea at all...Monday is the day we'll go to DHS in the morning and want to leave around the lunch crowds anyways as it is an eve EMH...yes I know I'm breaking 1 Diser rule of thought never go to a EMH park ...but this is the only way to work it. and I was hoping to potenially go to that area and look at some Christmas decorations...and it would be fun to check out our top 2 choices for the 2011 anni trip too.

anyone know which resort has the chocolate carousel?

so any recommendations :confused3

You're a smartie!

Great CS choices! I love how you organized your choices into burger and non-burger options. So smart!

glad you guys appreciate my insanity

Yes I think the burgers are hit and miss...

lots of seating is what I like to hear!

I really hope everything works out with your daughter and the food accomodations. It's so difficult when you have an allergy or sensitivity.

so do I...at this point it is one of the two things I am nervous about...(other thing the resort switch logistics :headache:)

What do you recommend at CHH? We're going to try it for the first time this summer.

I LOVE the BLT salad...I am a sucker for anything w/ bacon and it's a nice change from burgers and chicken.

the anchors aweigh sandwich (the picture in the above post) is yummy too...it's tuna salad w/ lettuce and tomato. Others have had the fried fish, shrimp and combo...never a complaint!

upstairs is nice and quiet and I think it was 05 they brough our order up to us...but we carried the stroller up the stairs...is there an elevator.

there is some from Hidden Magic stuff in that book I have read too. :thumbsup2

more planning posts to come...

J~

I'm pretty sure it is Beach Club with the chocolate carousel. If you're going there you can do Beaches & Cream, I know it's more of a burger place but the ice cream is GREAT!

(got your email)

I love how you broke it down--so many considerations! There will be the new Italian CS opening the fall but with it being a pizzeria, I doubt that would work for your family or at least Naomi Ruth. :confused3

I think so too...found pictures of from 08....no go on Beaches and Creams...TS and I need a CS :sad2:

(got your email)

Yes looking forward to our 2nd non-Dis Dis meet

Yes I am intrigued by the new pizza CS...we'll see, but yes poor Naomi no pizza for her :guilty:

thanks

I haven't had the soup. I've had the tofu soup, which probably has gluten, and the asian sampler (had rice and steamed veggies, but I know sometimes soy sauce can contain gluten).
Also, the restaurant opening where McD's at DTD was (Pollo Campero) is having a section called "Fresh-a-peel" which will include gluten free and vegetaria. options, supposedly.

Yes you are right on the soy...

oy that gluten issue....we are going on a family outing today which includes a picnic and I bought Pringles...but she can't eat those either...

thanks for the good info on the DTD restaurant. Is this a CS then?

So I should be at church right now…but DH is not feeling good this morning…as I feared after 3 full days back to work, helping around the house and walking around for 6 hours + w/ activity yesterday at the 100th Anniversary Scout –o-Rama for Boy Scouts…he is out….

A couple of the kids’ allergies were in full force as well…so we had to call it a wash this morning…as we are heading out later this morning for another full day: my hometown’s big Spring Parade and then a BBQ back at my parents…

So I was up at before 6 am…yuck…and didn’t go to sleep to after 11 pm w/ falling asleep w/ a wide awake Naomi-Ruth squished next me…(brought her back to bed after midnight)

Did some laundry, cleaned up, paid the mortgage, packed school lunches, got Naomi-Ruth’s snacks for the parade…now before I serve, yes serve donuts for breakfast… let’s talk DISNEY,

Shall we?

Ok last Wed morning I called Disney Dining twice…once about the CLP package which confirmed mrsksomeday’s thoughts on how this works w/ booking and how I can not book this till waaaayyyyy after my ADR window :headache: and then I called back and talked to a super nice bubbly CM about BBB.

After that conversation I called DVC member services (thank you for the 1 800 number) and asked if my in-laws would have there own keys to our BLT room…yes they do. Good because we may split up several times and they have that one dining time away from us and need to “pay” w/ the DDP credits…

But then the eh news to the so-so news, to the good news….plummeted to the deepest darkest pit almost like a ride on ToT except my “screams” were not of frightful joy…but of oh carp….

I always had this bad feeling in my stomach w/ this whole split stay thing and how the switch over on our first full day at WDW (day 2) Naomi-Ruth’s b-day could become comprised because of the check-out of POP and need to get “checked-in” at BLT would cause. :guilty:

UGHHHHHHHH! There is no pixie dust going on here….

So this is the deal my friends…and please tell me I am not crazy….:scared:

If anyone has ever done this, is this truly how it works?

So here is the basic plan of Day 1) arriving and the morning of Day 2) (KIM the times are all approximates at this point because I am yet to book our flights and the ADR/ BBB making is occurring a week away)

Day 1) Friday Nov. 19th leaving from Midway in south-side Chicago…

Hoping for a 8:30/9 ish flight…basically just need a non-stop no lay-over flight, don’t want to leave at the crack of dawn…but don’t want to leave too late either…

So figure we’ll be arriving at MCO before 1 pm FL time and getting to POP hopefully no later than 2 pm…

Check-in, maybe rooms will be ready…have lunch at POP food court and then walk around the resort and check out the stuff…

Once in rooms, all or some of us will hop a bus to the Market place…objectives here:

1) DH and I buy our AP’s

2) have dinner at EOS

3) a little pre-shopping, but plan to come back again during the week…

Then back to POP, want to be settled for bed no later than 9 pm…

Have no room organizing to do since this is only a 1 night stay. Plan to have Friday night needs and Saturday morning’s needs in one suitcase…so we are not rummaging through multiple bags…

Day 2) Saturday Nov 20th….check-out POP, check-in BLT, BBB pre-park opening at MK…

So here is where the “fun” begins…this is so not how I want to start our first real day at Disney…but trying to stay pixie-dust positive here…

Obviously the check-out slip will be under our day the day before…we have called that number already…

Buying some juice/milk and fruit from the food court the night before and will put on ice for the night since no little fridge, plus I’ll have brought from home some muffins or pop tarts for quick breakfast in room…need to save time here…

DH and I will need to wake up well before 6 am in the morning…luckily w/ the two rooms we’ll have two bathrooms and get be getting ready simultaneously.

By 6 am the kids will need to be aroused…are you kidding me?

Eat, dress, re-pack up pj’s and morning toiletries all before 6:30 am

Call bell services too pick up our bags…do they even operate this early?

Call for a cab pick up at 6:45 am for Matt and Nathan (and our park bag plus stroller) at the POP lobby…oh man I hope our room is close.

Matt and Nathan leave and go to CR to pre-register for our stay at BLT.

The girls and I leave by 7 am to catch a bus to MK…drops us at TTC (since the pre-park opening buses drop you here not at MK :headache: hop the monorail to MK and if all goes well we are arriving by 7:40 ish am…

Matt and Nathan should be waiting for us there w/ our keys to BLT (so we’ll have DDP capabilities now) or be shortly behind…we are slightly nervous if they arrive after we have gone in they may not be allowed to enter even w/ our BBB confirmation number…

BBB appointments for all 3 girls approx 8:05 am….

We’re in, we are here, let’s have some FUN! Please……:worship:

OK some explanations…

When I booked the BLT stay w/ the intention to have the split stay and decided on it being our first night, I thought I was informed we could come pre-register at CR for our BLT stay as soon as it was the 20th…

So my first thought is ok 12:00 am (midnight)…thought I was told yes….

When I talked to MS last week…uh no that is not so….

I don’t get it…the check-in counter area is said to be open 24 hrs a day…but I can not come and pre-register to get our keys till at the very earliest 6 am on the 20th….

WHY!!!!?????!!!!!

Matt thinks it is something to do w/ schedule change…or maybe I just don’t understand this 24hr thing or maybe midnight is just not considered the next day in Disney… :confused3

So because we have to get our luggage moved by bell services at POP to be taken to BLT for us and I want to do the pre-park BBB for the girls on Naomi’s b-day so we are done when the park is opening and get in some touring w/ low crowds and then do lunch at CRT and then finally get over to BLT….this day is turning our to be a humdinger of an early start….

Matt has to go and pre-register so early cause we need our keys or we can’t “pay” for the CRT meal and if he or I go and do it later in the morning…one of will miss stuff…yes I know I have the GP’s…but this is Naomi’s b-day and we are not rushing the GP’s if they are ready when we leave cool…if not we’ll meet up later.

I am figuring I should allow at least 40+ minutes of travel from POP to the gates at MK…sound right to you guys?

Any thoughts?

TIA…

J~

Yuck! What a mess... I'm pretty sure bell services start pretty early... we had an early flight home last year and had bell services at our door at the crack of dawn on our departure day to pick up our luggage & drive us up to Custom House to meet the ME bus.

I find it strange that you have to wait until 6am... I would call the resort directly if you can. Do you read HappyDog's reports? They took an impromtu trip during the Jan/Feb blizzards & arrived at AKL in the middle of the night - it was after 12 but they let them check-in super duper early (like not charged that night)... Here is a link...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2398095 They checked in on page 3.

OK - I guess it was 4 or 5 am when they checked in, but definitely before 6...

My understanding is that it is 6am for check-in -even if you don't care about getting into the room. If it was midnight....can you imagine how many people wouldn't get a room for that first evening and try to get into a room before dawn and camp out in the lobby?

My only concern with your plan is you and the girls getting from POP to MK in time. I would really consider taking a taxi from POP to MK (I guess they drop you off at the TTC, right?) For me an extra $20-$25 would be worth it not to stress about being late.

Tell me again why you aren't staying at BLT the first night?
