I'm Not As Tink As You Kronk I Am - Final Thoughts on Mustard's January Trip to WDW

Hehehe, yeah - I couldn't resist the picture of a picture of a picture thing :rotfl2:

And yeah - I'm singing the "monorail" song from the Simpsons from the experience ;)

What is up with them and Donald's boat??? I saw it at DL and thought for sure they would have done something different with the one at WDW, but nope - same empty shell.

Thank you on the new name, I thought it was fitting. Have a good one!

:rotfl:

oh yeah, love that episode

Not sure. It's very disappointing. That sucks that the one at DL is just the same way.

You guessed it – Haunted Mansion! The line was a little longer than last time, but still moved along pretty fast. The ghost horse waited patiently

…and the mansion looked appropriately gloomy

I took some shots of the parade of headstones

On to the tall room – I made sure we were right in the middle so I could keep pivoting around and watch the portraits grow :D

I got a quick shot of one of the gargoyles and then we moved on to the show.

I wanted to really enjoy this one so I didn’t take many pics and none of them really came out. I did try for the ghost in the car shot and this was the best I came up with

Dis08_1633.JPG

The girls and I wandered back up to Fantasyland and met back up with mom and pop. We checked out the shops near the castle and I really liked the “Jack and the Beanstalk” theme :D

Both girls had their turn with the Sword in the Stone

Dis08_1636.JPG

DW and MiL had arrived at the front entrance by then and were working their way through the crowds. Grandma Dollface stayed with the girls while Papa John and I wandered through the castle to the front to wait for them. While we waited I took a shot looking towards Liberty Square

Next up, a Special Invitation :D

oh yeah, love that episode

Not sure. It's very disappointing. That sucks that the one at DL is just the same way.

Hehe, Moooooonnnoooooorraaaaaiiiillll!!!!

Yup, it's a carbon copy of the one at WDW. Ah well, guess they can't get it all right.

:rotfl: Mono....doh!!!!!!! Gotta love Homer :thumbsup2

But...but....it's disney....aren't they supposed to have everything right?

Fantastical update!! I always love seeing other peoples pictures from HM. That is one of my favorite rides at MK. :woohoo: You got some GREAT shots of the stretching room. I'm jealous. And wow on the shot of the hanging man just before you walk out of the stretching room. Not everyone knows it's there. Chris tried to get a picture of it last year but he left the flash on :rotfl:

I always forget that sword is there. Did you ever watch Full House? Remember the episode where they went to WDW? That's where I remember that sword from at WDW :rotfl: I've never paid attention to it in real life. You could tell your girls that one of the olsen twins touched that sword too but they might not even know who they are :rotfl: Can't believe I'm old enough to be knowing things that kids probably don't. :sad2:

Now look what you've done, gone and made me feel like an old fart

either way, great update as usual.

just tuned in, but ive enjoyed every minute, and hey, better late than never!

great updates!

Glad you got to ride in the front of the monorail! Great pictures in Minnie and Mickey's houses. It looks like they have changed a few things since the last time they went. Minnie's couch looked different---and also looked soft. (I paid close attention when you said they found a "comfy" place to sit) It used to be hard. My cousin made the mistake of plopping down on her couch many years ago, thinking it would be soft (long day of walking) and my dad snapped a shot at that very moment. The look on her face was priceless!

Also Mickey's checker set is different. I'm confused...why is it PINK? That was in Mickey's house, right?

You got some great pics of HM...I'm jealous! You should go back and change where you said you stood in the middle of the room. It's..ahem....the DEAD CENTER. ;)

I can't believe it's almost over!

Guess what Mouseketeers? Ole Billy Boy is coming to town ...or more specifically to my work. Yes, Bill Clinton is speaking here in a couple of hours:

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/actioncenter/event/view/?id=14346

I brought my camera just for grins but we'll see if I can get a pic of him. He was a controversial president and I didn't agree with a chunk of what he did, but how often do you have a president come to visit, aye?

loved all the pics of the Haunted Mansion. great update once again.

I should slow down next time and take it more in.

Hope you can score some good pictures of/with him. :thumbsup2 You're right, it's not every day that a president comes to visit.

Yeah, he's paled a bit over the years, but ole Homer is still a classic. I still haven't seen the Simpsons movie yet

HM is always fun and my big thing that time through was to get good pics of the stretching room. And getting the hanging man was TOUGH given how fast he comes and goes and the low light. You can see from the graininess of the shot that I had to enhance it a bit in photoshop so you could see him.

The girls found the sword, I had missed it myself. And yes, they have nickelodeon which plays reruns of Full House. I personally can't stand the show but the girls know it and like it as does DW ;) I'll have to ask them if they've seen the Disney World episode.

Nawwww, no old farts here. Heck, I remember watching the Muppet Show and Battlestar Galactica when they were on Prime Time :rotfl2:

Monorail was cool and don't let that "comfy" look or my story fool you, that couch is still hard plastic ;) Yeah, I think DD11 did a little plop down on it and felt the affects.

It was my first time through the one there and I only vaguely remember the one at DL, so I don't remember the features. But yes, I'm pretty sure that checker board was in Mickey's house. It does look pretty pink doesn't it?

:rotfl2: Yeah, I should change that to "Dead Center" :lmao:

Yeah, it has been quite a journey for sure!

get a good pic of ole Billy! Bring him a cigar. :lmao:

I forgot to say how much I loved that pic you got of the hanging man. SO awesome! I'd love to use it for my scrapping if that's okay (if I ever get around to it :rolleyes1 )

I got some good pics of him and actually got to shake his hand and talk to him briefly after the speech :D But no, no cigar questions, those secret service guys were already eyeing me :lmao:

Sure, feel free to use any of my pics - happy to share

Well it was an interesting morning. I gave the people in my department release time to go see Bill if they wanted and then went up there myself to wait in line to get in. I stood there for an hour or so chatting with the democratic masses around me and tried to avoid getting a sunburn.

Then five minutes prior to them opening the gates to let us into the concert bowl my boss came up and said that Clinton's aide needed a laptop and an extra network connection in the building adjacent to the bowl.

I tracked down a laptop and got it set up for them and met his aide who is young and attractive, but is in no way Lewenski-ish :thumbsup2

By the time I got back out there the line had of course already moved in and I had to haggle my way back up to the area where I would have been standing if I had kept with the people I had been talking with. I had to run the gauntlet of a couple of unhappy civiallians and one feisty Clinton volunteer, but I got there! :)

By now it was about 11:15am and he was supposed to speak at 11:30. While we waited some co-workers and I played "spot the plainclothes secret service agent" - I think we came up with two for sure's and another couple of maybes. Clinton was delayed and arrived around noon, which was good because any later and people would have started to drop from the heat out there.

He made his grand entrance
Clinton_05_08_01.JPG

notice the guy in black kind of tucked away? Well there was a standard contingent of secret service in their black suits and all and then there was this guy. Both of his arms were "sleeved" with tats, he had paratrooper pants and combat boots and a belt with enough destructive 'toys' to do some real damage. Not a guy you would want to be on the wrong side of.

Clinton got up to the podium and did his speech

He really enjoyed making gestures

During his speech I actually caught one of the secret service guys talking into his mic, although I was vaguely disappointed that he didn't just talk into his sleeve like you see in the movies :lmao:
Clinton_05_08_11.JPG

He spoke for about an hour and he is a good speaker and sold his product (Hillary) very well. Afterwards he did a bit of gladhanding
Clinton_05_08_08.JPG

Clinton_05_08_10.JPG

He headed back stage and the crowd broke up. I went back to the building where his aide was working to see if I could pack up the laptop. She was in there cursing at her smart phone and we joked about the joys of technology. I packed up the laptop and then wandered to the door facing the parking lot where the motorcade was going to depart from.

It was just me, the president of the college, and a few foundation and board members. We found out that our pres hadn't gotten a chance to meet Clinton and one of the assistants convinced one of the officers to relay a message to one of the secret service agents to see if he would come down for a minute.

It was relayed back that there just wasn't time since they were running behind schedule. Bill and the secret service and the police got in their rigs and I got ready to take a couple of shots of them driving away when Bill's rig stopped.

He got out and with his entorage of secret service guys came walking down to us
Clinton_05_08_12.JPG

He said hello to our pres and shook his hand

He then came over and shook our hands

Yup, I shook ole Billy Boy's hand :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

He talked with us for another couple of minutes...
Clinton_05_08_20.JPG

...said some final words to our president
Clinton_05_08_21.JPG

(See Cheri - I told ya the secret service guy was eyeing me! :lmao: )

...and then he was on his way.

I did think it was pretty cool of him to take the time to come down there, he didn't have to and he made the effort despite his own people pressuring him to go.

I packed the laptop back down to media and finally had some lunch (it was around 2pm by then). So there you have it - my day with Billy Boy

I liked Bill. Stupid rule they can only run twice, although that is also not a bad thing. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

great pics u got of him.

First, you got off some great pix of the HM. How did you get the headstone pix? When I was there the line kept moving so I didn't really have time to take any.......

The pix in the stretching room are great!!!

Now the Clinton pix. Nice that he came back. That's just a nice man...He didn't have to, but he did....:thumbsup2

I'm not a big fan of politics and politicians, but to meet any President would be cool.

Yeah, he's paled a bit over the years, but ole Homer is still a classic. I still haven't seen the Simpsons movie yet

Yeah, can't go wrong with a good ol' simpsons episode. The movie was okay...Just one big long episode basically.

Well, i think you accomplished your goal of getting good pics of the stretching room. Even if you did have to edit the picture of the hanging man it still turned out fantastic. It is hard to get any picture of him since he's only lit up by "lightening". You did a great job!

Ah, what a good eye those girls of yours have. I'll have to make a note to really watch for the sword this year. Last year the biggest picture I wanted was the singin' in the rain umbrella and I managed to find that. So this year my goal will be more great characters and the sword in the stone :thumbsup2 That's cool that they still watch Full House. I once saw Bob Saggot live at a comedy club and cannot look at him the same anymore. He is one filthy man.

:lmao: Well, I guess I can say you got me beat there 'cause I never got to watch either of those shows on prime time.

:lmao: I love all the "gesture" pictures you got of Bill. And the Secret Service guy talking into his mic was good too....although that is a little disappointing that he wasn't talking into his sleeve  Don't they know that they're supposed to keep of the facade??

That guy with all the guns and such looks like a bad @$$ for sure! Wouldn't you just love to be that guy for a day?

And I love that you were playing "find the plain clothed secret service agents". It's always fun to spot under cover cops so I'm sure trying to figure out who was the under cover agent was a challenge.

That is SO cool that Bill came back to meet y'alls press and that you got to shake his hand. That is a once in a lifetime opportunity for sure!

Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

great pics u got of him.

I think he's a flawed individual, but who isn't? I prefer to look at policy decisions rather than press hype and I think he made good decisions overall.

I'm not a big fan of politics and politicians, but to meet any President would be cool.

To get the headstone pics I just kept falling behind and had the girls keep pace with the line, then I'd catch up and shoot again. Also, I was using the speed setting on my camera so I'd literally point and take 3-4 shots of each headstone/group of headstones and move on. Later I went back through them and picked out the best ones.

I'm very happy with the stretching room pics, I had to do a little color correction in photoshop but that was it.

That's the way I looked at Clinton's visit - you just don't get those kind of opportunities in life very much.

Yeah, can't go wrong with a good ol' simpsons episode. The movie was okay...Just one big long episode basically.

I'll still have to rent it sometime just to see the Spider Pig in action :rotfl2:

Thank you so much about your thoughts on the stretching room pics :)

Yes, DD11 is especially good at spotting the little details :D I'm glad you found the umbrella and I know you'll get some great character shots and sword shots next time :thumbsup2

Oh yes, Bob Sagett is extremely crude on stage - it is just so weird to hear those words coming out of his mouth

Yay, I beat ya - I think I just aged another year *cough cough wheeze wheeze* :lmao:

:lmao: I love all the "gesture" pictures you got of Bill. And the Secret Service guy talking into his mic was good too....although that is a little disappointing that he wasn't talking into his sleeve  Don't they know that they're supposed to keep of the facade??

Yeah, no kidding - I wanted secret service talking into sleeves and a fleet of black suburbans rolling out of there and got neither

Yeah, it would be interesting to be the tatoo guy, except that I know a guy from my military days who is really like that and he doesn't have much of a life other than training and trying to keep his clients alive. I guess it's the persona rather than the reality that gets people.

Yup, basically the same principle with spotting the secret service guys, except with them you can look for ear pieces ;)

And I'm still pretty jazzed about meeting the Pres - just that whole concept that you shook the hand of the guy who lead the free world for eight years.

DW and MiL showed up just as a light drizzle was starting. Luckily we were already at our destination so we told the girls they had a special invitation to lunch :D

The invitation included a beautiful picture of the castle

We checked in and about 15 minutes later we were lead inside. I thought the castle theming was great

Dis08_1644b.JPG

Personally I think they went a little heavy on the flash – lol :D

Papa John and I were each given swords and all of the ladies were given wands. This was a very cool treat as I thought only Bean and maybe Pumpkin Girl would get anything. We rode the elevator up with the moms and were seated at a long table in a raised area near the kitchen entrance. I forgot our waiter’s name but he was very attentive.

Our food was wonderful, I had been a wee bit worried about it from hearing some reviews on the boards. But everyone very much enjoyed their meals. Also, Bean got a wishing star but DD11 hadn't been given one because of her age. We talked to our waiter and he took care of us and got one for my Pumpkin Girl. We tipped him well for all of his thoughtfulness and attention.

As we ate the princesses started making the rounds. Our first was Jasmine, one of DD11’s favorites

And then came Snow White
Dis08_1648.JPG

Dis08_1649.JPG

Dis08_1650.JPG

She was followed by Sleeping Beauty or Aurora, whichever you prefer.
Dis08_1651.JPG

When she went to sign DD11's autograph book, DD11 told her that she had already signed it at Epcot. Aurora smiled and said "I may have signed it, but do you have a kiss to go with it?" and put a nice lipstick smooch next to the signature :-]

Dis08_1652.JPG

Next came Belle in her peasant outfit, which was cool since DD11 had pics with her dressed up at Epcot
Dis08_1653.JPG

Dis08_1654.JPG

After the princesses had finished their rounds I caught a couple of shots of the interior. It was pretty full but wasn’t as loud as some of the other places we’d eaten at.
Dis08_1655.JPG

Dis08_1656.JPG

We finished our lunch and the girls got their special desserts. Bean REALLY liked her chocolate crown
Dis08_1657.JPG

And Pumpkin Girl showed off hers and initially didn’t want to eat it because it looked so cool
Dis08_1658.JPG

More magic to come and an unexpected encounter with some very bad girls!
