I'm kinda sad about this

Weekends, especially with AP discount rates. :thumbsup2 I refuse even though I own DVC to completely give up POFQ, CSR, the Yacht Club and the Grand Floridian. That way when I leave on Saturday I don't feel as bad about getting up early and getting on the road. However at the Yacht Club and Grand Floridian it is very hard to do.

Uhh...

Let's look at that hotel REALISTICALLY

1. Outside corridors
2. No Free internet
3. Double beds
4. No coffee pot

It's not even comparable to your local Marriott Courtyard. but it's "Stnkin' nice" Really, they provide less then ANY hotel chain out there, IMHO that's more like a 'stinkin' shame' and I am glad my DVC keeps me from having to overpay for subpar hotels while still staying on property.

They are going thru a rehab so all moderates will have Queen beds now (except CBR) and I think they have always had coffee pots in moderates.
Am I going to give up my DVC? Heck no, but I think Disney has done well with the moderates and they keep improving them.

I am a big POR lover but I have to agree with you. Without starting a argument(including you):) with any DVC owners (DVC is wonderful for the people who like it) that is exactly the reason why we got rid of ours. We really felt were were not getting what we paid for. If you take the parks out of the equasion DVC resorts are just not up to par with other TS.

We also really like POR. We went back for one night in December before our DVC stay began. I think POR is a nice resort for the price compared to other on-site options. We moved on to booking rooms at deluxe resorts for more square footage and queen size beds, and then ended up buying DVC for a kitchen, washer/dryer and even more space. We don't have as many points as we could use right now, so that gives us a chance to revisit some of our favorite resorts and try out other non-DVC rooms. Maybe you could do the same and stretch your points/extend your stay by starting with a night or two at POR.

The rooms are small and nothing fancy, I agree, but the POR resort grounds are nicer and have much more to offer than any 3 star chain I have visited.

Oh my!!! It would be so hard for me to go back to a moderate resort stay. Don't get me wrong, before DVC we enjoyed our stay at the moderates. CBR was one of our favorites. BUT......the DVC resorts are just awesome! We now vacation in a whole different way, we are taking advantage of all the things that the DVC resorts have to offer. Great balconies with beautiful views, more room, nice kitchenette/full kitchens, love having a washer/dryer in my room.... I could go on and on. Give it a try.I'm sure you will enjoy it too.

I was a little bummed after buying VGC that I wouln't be able to have a Downtown Disney view anymore..but I got over it :)

They will still have outside corridors, charge for internet, have NO loyalty program (actually they have an "anti loyalty program. People who have NEVER stayed get PINS for discounts, loyal returning customers get the assumption they will return regardless of what we charge) and so on..

They don't meet the industry standards for the rates they charge. Disney is world class in pricing, and below par in quality. (Very sad IMHO)

And if like me, you stay in the "two star" hotels (and Disney Moderates are NOT three star hotels except in Disney's "mind") then you get FREE nights in 4 and 5 star hotels that have nicer views/grounds then a lot of Disney hotels...... If you spend the same money at a Disney hotel you get a cute grounds with subpar hotels and no "incentives" to keep using them.. Hmm...

I find this thread funny, because I held off on buying DVC for a few years because I "loved" POP Century (and the moderates)...I am a true convert now, I can tell you that! I've only had a few DVC stays so far, and have traveled down for a few weekends in between on work trips, staying at POR and POP...I absolutely missed so many of the DVC amenities...the kitchenette, free laundry, free internet, nicer rooms, etc etc etc....I've only been a member for 2 years and I am SOLD!

On my wedding trip last year, we stayed for a week at BWV, 1 night at Poly, and then at both Jambo and Kidani (we also took a mid-trip cruise on DCL - yeah, we're Disney addicts alright)...Poly was by FAR our least favorite...my husband missed the free DVD rentals as he stays up much later than I do, and also we both missed the free internet and laundry a lot, even though it was only 1 night! My mom, sisters, and a few others stayed in a 2 bedroom at BWV for the night before the wedding, and I am now having a second case of addonitis due to the fact that I am now totally sold on the larger villas! I love the king sized bed and the master bathroom in the 1 bedrooms. My hubby and I are going back in August to stay 5 days at BLT and 5 at BWV - both in 1 bdrm villas to spoil ourselves for our 1st anniversary.

Sorry for rambling, but my point is - any true "value girls" can be converted if I can! I swore I hated the bus service at DVC resorts, the lack of food courts, free dining, etc...now those things don't even cross my mind.

I have to say all 5 of us in the family do miss the Ft. cabins! We have always said if they had 2 bedroom - 2 bath cabins we would buy in a heart beat! We miss the golf carts and outdoor space the most. We do not miss 1 bath and double bed (murphy bed for DH and I) but we did get used to it because we love every other aspect of the resort! We will be back there for sure paying for CR or using extra points!

My DH and I struggle with this regularly. We absolutely love POR. We have had DVC for several years now. We love it and enjoy the different DVC resorts that we've stayed at but will still miss POR. We keep considering taking advantage of one of the discounts that we keep seeing so that we can feed our POR addiction.

I've been looking into adding one night to our Nov. trip. I was all set on renting or using member discounts...until I talk to my DH. My DD and I went on some trips without him (before DVC) and apparently he wants to know what he missed. His first choice for one night...POFQ!

My very first stay at WDW was at a moderate, CBR. It was that trip that the Disney bug bit me! If you'll look at my signature you'll see I've stayed at every level! Do I miss the other Disney resorts since joining DVC? No, not really. I enjoy having the villas, the room to lounge around. Don't get me wrong I've really loved every stay I've had at WDW whether we were staying at All Stars or the Yacht Club. I just like the space that a 1 or 2 bdr has..and the kitchen...and the full-size fridge...and the w/d...and the jacuzzi tub....and the bedroom away from the kids.....what is it we were missing about the moderates again??

We love the Polynesian and still manage to sneak a few nights over there in before heading over to our home at BLT each trip ;)

That is kind of our plan too. We stayed at the Poly on our last 3 visits. Now that we have DVC, I am trying to figure the best way to include the Poly for a few nights each trip.

We were in a very different place when we bought DVC in 1992 -- We had never stayed on-site -- except our hunnymoon at the Poly. Having said that, we still enjoy a day here or there at the mods or FW cabins. Especially on arrival day, it is sometimes hard to "spend" the points for what seems like a few hours. However, once you walk into a 1 or 2 bdr DVC unit, any feeling of missing a one-room hotel goes away quickly.

We have gotten so used to no daily mousekeeping, we actually prefer it over daily room intrusions.

For us, owning DVC stepped us up a few notches in accommodations. You can always pay cash and stay a couple nights at start of trip, say when weekend pts. are higher. But using pts. to stay at a mod or even a deluxe is not good use of them, IMO. I feel as time passes, you will fall in love with your home resort, and will love the possibility to branch out and try the other DVC resorts. Just give it time. But make best use of those pts. as it fits your needs.

I just bought DVC and honestly part of me is kinda sad that I won't be taking my vacations at PORS. Has anyone else felt this way? I'm wondering where I can find a current point chart to stay at PORS:rotfl2: They just had to make those moderates so stinkin' nice! Maybe I'll just rent out half my points each year and pay for a stay at PORS.:lovestruc

You'll get over it. ;)

Surely you jest! Didn't like PORS when we HAD to stay there prior to DVC, and did it for 2 nights a couple of years ago and said "never again"! After DVC, PORS seems like a big Holiday Inn to me.

Having never stayed at PORS, I have to ask--what is so great about it that everybody loves it so much? Just curious.

1 bedrooms wipe away any fondness for the moderates! I love being in my king-sized bed, or in the jacuzzi tub sipping mimosas that I keep easily in my full-sized kitchen!

Having the child sleep in another room is key to vacation happiness, too!
