I'm enjoying your thread very much. Thank you for allowing us to "join you"!

:grouphug:

I so enjoy having a cup of coffee and catching your morning touch of Hawaii thread!! :thumbsup2
Your beautiful pics bring back so many fond memories of our Hawaii vacataion when we renewed our wedding vows many moons ago. Glad you are having a great time and thx so much for letting us share your enjoyable adventure! :sunny:

PS, your daughter and SIL are a very cute couple!! :goodvibes

good morning

love to read your reports each day. thanks for posting them. all the pics bring back so many wonderful memories of when we were staying at the Hale Koa in October. I'll be going back before June, when my son leaves for Iraq again and want to spend a little time with him and family before June.

Have a good day and look forward to updates

PS - the beach side cafe you were sitting at with your free paper was exactly where we were on several mornings for breakfast. Breath taking to say the least

Did you take the submarine out from behind the Hawaiian Hilton to see the sunken ships??

Oh I am enjoying this report so much. Thank you for the beautiful pictures. I went to Oahu to see my Best friend last October and it was so great I did not want to leave , I love the whole Island life (spent 5 years in Puerto rico and you can't get that kind of living out of your blood). Have a great time and keep the reports coming. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'll be at the Hale Koa in July! Although, I have been before, it was nice to see the photos to refresh my memory! It still looks great!
Kiddos used to go to a private school across the street from costco called Navy Hale Keiki...is it still there? I believe it is on Bougainville Drive.

Yes, the Navy Hale Keiki school is there! We pass by it all the time.!
I will try and take a 'drive-by' photo! ha ha

We will be attempting to take a bus from her "civilian" corner (1 mile walk out of the military reservation) to Pearl Ridge Mall. She took car in to get checked and taking taxi back home. I don't think you all want to see photos of a mall.

Serious? hummm how interesting. Is it like the Submarine ride at Disneyland? pirate: ?? I will have to research that. I guess ask someone at the hotel if they have this tour? thanks for sharing.

Just getting our nails done today....nothing exciting. sorry ! :goodvibes :rotfl: My legs need some rest from the walking anyway.

That is so great how adventurous you are ! Thanks for the pictures....I can hardly wait until you get to the Pali and take pix!
When i read Aliamanu.......the Aliamanu Intermediate school song popped into my head !

Neath the palm trees of Hawaii
glorious to our view
stands our dear Aliamanu
Basking neath the blue
Aliamanu thee we honor
may we never fail
for our days shall live forever
Blue and White all hail!
Pathetic huh? Considering I left there in '76!

You remembered the school song???? WOW~~~i AM VERY IMPRESSED :thumbsup2 :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Today was a non-picture day, but still adventurous!
DD took car into a shop and returned home via taxi. She is NOT one to venture the bus system. I have suggested it, of course.....but you know how our children listen to us ... :p we are just  old people who don't know a darn thing....ha ha ha ha
I did tell her that we can take bus to Pearl Ridge Mall (where she works) and where we were going to get her pedicure and my manicure done.
We walked out of the military reservation to the main street (civilian streets) which is a mile (hilly I must say!, leg exercise!).....we waited a whole half hour for the bus. Obviously we just missed the earlier one. :sad2:
Got on the bus and it took us right to the mall. we walked into mall and JUST made our appt.
Here I am thinking, "Dang, I am here in Hawaii getting a Manicure" (I don't usually get manicures/pedicures.....I work for Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and see way too many icky complaints, :goodvibes )

We are thru, we take the little monorail to the other mall
DID YOU KNOW: :teacher:
History/About the Center
Pearlridge Uptown was opened in 1972, with an expansion in 1976 to include Pearlridge Downtown. Between the two, separate shopping centers lies Sumida Farm, the largest supplier of watercress in the State of Hawaii. Home to the island's only monorail, customers can enjoy a scenic ride between the two centers while enjoying views of historic Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. Anchored by Macy's, Inspiration Furniture, Sears, the State's only Circuit City & Toys R Us, Pearlridge Center is the largest enclosed shopping center in the State of Hawaii and is also home to more than 170 stores, restaurants and services. -NOW YOU KNOW
:teacher: :teeth:
Roamed....and then waited at another bus stop for bus back to where car was being repaired. We waited it seemed like another half hour :hourglass .
Got on and got off where we needed to, sat outside McDonalds with soda forever......DSIL had the ATM card and we had to wait until he got off work...
:hourglass :hourglass ....then walked to Starbucks, bought a drink and sat more.... :hourglass :hourglass
We finally walked over to the place and sat on some stairs (outside) and waited more. Finally at 5:20?? he showed up and we were heading home.

Not an exciting day, but I am glad I could be with daughter, expose her to the bus system and did our nails together. This is what this trip is about.
being together.

Tomorrow dd is going to get hair done, so I may venture to swap meet (before the pro bowl) or Iolani Palace......gosh, just not sure...
Aloha.....

Today was Cultural Day. :sunny:
I boarded bus at 10:15am and arrived at Kahili Transit Center. I was looking for either Bus 1, 2 or A or B....but there were several loading area! I felt like a lost puppy.....
Finally saw where Bus #1 was loading ....got on and headed towards Iolani Palace , State Capitol area.
I got off and then went into Ali'iolani Hale: formerly Legislative Assembly & Supreme Court; now Supreme Court & Judiciary History Center.

Browsed around and then went across the street to the Iolani Palace. I did not have a "reservation" but since I was single! I fit in with the tour that was JUST starting! :thumbsup2 (great to be single).
$20 for the grand tour of upstairs etc. It is a beautiful! building. I could not take any photos , just got post cards and don't have a scanner....sorry
But trust me, it is beautiful!

I do ALLLL this, (get on bus at 10:15 am) and return around 3:45 and daughter was STILLLLLL getting her hair worked on. Lady does not take appointments and god forbid dd get to hair stylist earlier than 11am....
Walked up the hill and waited about 15 for dd to get to a point to pick me up (cannot enter without military person).
It was a FUN and adventurous (sp?) day.

tomorrow I am getting up (will try to) little earlier and grab couple of busses to tour the island. That should be interesting! I hope I can hop off and not have to wait an hour for the next bus.. Will research that tonight.

Thanks!
aloha

Update....date: 2/11/06 - Saturday

Okay, let's see....Thursday, 8th: I WAS going to tour island via THE BUS.
I chose not to and actually, it was a good thing. DSIL needed to visit Dr. (at Tripler Hospital). DD took DSIL around 10ish for a shot (shin situation).
He returned to work and would need to return to Hosp. later in afternoon.
So DD and I went to lunch! at Zippy's and then I tagged along for couple of her errands. Then it was time (2pm) for her to take DSIL back to hospital for them to take some photos. I tagged along. Got to go inside Tripler Hospital. So , I am glad I chose to stay behind, since I got to spend some time with dd.(no photos)

FRIDAY. This was a fun day. Lots of adventure for me. Tonight was going to be the Luau! (Germaine's).

But I cannot hang around an apt. ALL day .....dd was going to sleep in....so I knew this was definitely a lazy day for her :rotfl2: .....so I walked to the bus stop (mile away)....and boarded #32 and then transfered to #2 to Waikiki. Walked in the Kuhio beach area.

Well, It was a short visit to Waikiki, but I enjoyed myself. I saw where the Perry Smorgyboard's is on Kuhio Ave. Anyone remember when it was like oceanfront??? I do. Well, I returned home and then it was pretty much time to get ready to leave for Luau! (we left the homefront around 4:10, and arrived around 5pm)

The lady that Audrey befriended at her work (maybe it should be the lady befriended Audrey!)....and she must be a owner or part owner or whatever with Germaine's since it was free for us!
How wonderful was that. When we arrived, dd said her name is on a list, the lady said "oh, how nice, you know the boss to have it comped(sp?)"
We were very much appreicated.
It was pretty much easy to get there from Pearl Harbor. There were about 10 bus loads! , plus many private vehicles. Yes, it is next to an industrial park, but once you are inside, you see the ocean and it gets dark and thus, you are alllll alone on a special island in your mind. We enjoyed it very much.
Here are some photos.

TODAY - Saturday:

Today was fun and different for me! Unfortunately, I did not bring my camera (what a doltz..)

Sunday is the Pro Bowl here at the Aloha Stadium just down the road from dd. I read that today would be Ohana Day -FREE and the Backstreet Boys would be there!. Well, "FREE" sure did sound good to me. :thumbsup2 I mentioned it to dd and what did she say? "it's over at noon?, yeah, I could come back and take a nap".... :rolleyes2 She never mentioned that she was interested when we went to bed Friday night, so I decided to head down their by myself and let them sleep in.....So I am up around 5:30....
I shower and dress....Now I am thinking, wait, this is a concert with the Backstreet boys! OMG, I am going to be the only 49yr old fart with a bunch of screaming neamies! I was saying to myself, 'what are you thinking'?
Well, I decided to go anyway. I make my way to the bus stop, but missed the bus by just a few minutes (that is what I get for hesitating).
So I decide it cannot be THAT far, and I walk. Well, it was not far at all!
My stroll took 20 minutes. I did NOT power walk. I got in line at 7:25.
Stood in Line for 1 hr.

Once inside, finally; we got our seats (just one side). It was WARM/HOT and sunny. Lots of music and fun! It was televised on ESPN. It was not a concert! It was sort of a practice (but it's not like they practiced HARD, they seemed to be out there for show sort of). the National League cheerleaders :cheer2: did their thing, and then they introduced the Nationa League Team and they stretched and practiced. LOTS of football fans with memorbilia that they hoped would get autographs, but no signing today. Then there were fun and games during commercials, and lots of interviews.
Just fun to be there and watch.

The American league team and cheerleaders did their thing.....

Backstreet Boys were there and did a simple and short acapella song....nothing much ....and then it ended with the Navy Seal Paratoopers!
they flew in and landed right there on the field. All 8 of them. That was the coolest thing ever! I have never ever seen such a thing!

Later, dd and I went to furniture store (she was bored) and she was looking for a chair and I took photos of the cool hawaiian pillows, and pictures. So pretty.

Tomorrow I am hoping to get dd out of the house before 2pm (actually dsil is hard to get out since he can spend ALLLLLLL flippen day playing his PC games (World of Warcraft?).... :rolleyes2 :rotfl2: :confused3 and tour around the island and roam North shore! and find that Shaved Ice place!

That's it....I hope to have great photos tomorrw....

oohh...what fun! You are gonna LOVE the north shore! I'm enjoying your pix! keep 'em coming!

Thanks so much for sharing. I love your pics and reports. We did Germaines also, and I love your shot of Waikiki, you can see the pink hotel (where we stayed!!)

thanks again. :goodvibes

Wonderful pictures! I particularly appreciate them today. We have a blizzard in Ct.

I have to post some great furniture items I saw at furniture store with dd.

Beautiful pics

Sunday: Went around North Shore and Windward side.
Just beautiful. I think pictures say it all.
DD is only 20 miles from Dole Plantation area...
Total drive was about 100 miles (give or take a few miles) and about 6 hours travel time
which included few stops, of course, and lunch at a local bar/food place on windward side

Great pictures! DH and I stayed at the Sheraton right next to the "pink hotel" in July of 2003. Have you been to Pali Outlook(I am not sure if that is the correct name) it is where the wind blows real strong, that was neat to see, but DH and I had to yell at each other in order to be heard!
