I'm going to kill my dog!!!!!

I have been, at times, so angry with my kids, hubby, and various pets, that I just have to get them out of my sight before I explode. I totally understand dragging that crate out of sight to gain some focus, count to ten, and cool down before proceeding.

Me too, so I suppose that makes me a bad mother, bad wife, bad adopted mother to dog, bad adopted mother to cat, etc. etc. We ALL have days when we just want to scream. I think it is sad that this is on a "community" board. If your neighbour came in ranting because their dog had pooped where it shouldn't have, would you attack her verbally? I think not. You would probably say "been there, done that, sit down and have a coffee". Shame the same sort of sentiment isn't shown more by others on the CB.

Or perhaps the ones making nasty comments have just had a bad day and need a coffee too!

To the OP, your post made me laugh. There was no malice in it - and you were just at the end of your tether - I could see that. I'm sure most others could too.

Well, since everyone is posting an opinion...


I see NOTHING wrong with what took place. Once, well actually twice, while I was crating my weim, she did her business in the crate. I know she didn't know any better at first b/c she was a stray. but after cleaning out the crate a few times and keeping her in it for about a month in our utility room(NOT FOR A MONTH STRAIGHT MIND YOU) she now knows when it is time for us to leave we tell her to "go to her room" and she goes into the utility room with food and water until we get back. She hasn't had an accident in the house in over 9 months now and she willingly goes into "her room" when we leave or have guests over that don't want a barrage of tongue licks.

Question...why are all these dogs in crates and utility rooms?

We notice this in a new subdivision we walk in. All these dogs are in a bedroom barking at the window and none of these pet owners put up a fence so the dog can be outside-where they are happiest. I don't get it.

Some dogs have to be crated during the day. It's not cruel. Some dogs have to be for the owner and their own safety. Quit picking on the OP. She's explained it. I am cooped up in an office all day, that's cruel.

ScarletO, a dog is happiest with his people........not outside in the yard. Mine stay indoors all day while I'm at work so they can enjoy the heat/air conditioning (and the Disney channel) and if I am not home, it's not safe for them to be outside alone. You would not believe what people walking by will do to your dogs....throw things, open gates...........throw food (without your permission).

I am also the PROUD owner of a STUPID cocker spaniel and yes can totally relate with the OP. I have a feeling that some of the flamers have never had to clean a dog and a crate that is completely caked in poo. It is NOT fun, I have been there done that a few times and I would never wish that on anyone! Sometimes I think there are people who look for someone to flame!

I had to clean up many messes after my puppy. I also got frustrated at time and had to take a time out yet I doubt I would say these things to anyone, let alone post it on the net. Anyway as the original poster explained she was simply misunderstood by many folks here. I for one take issues of child and animal abuse VERY seriously and would rather be classified as overprotective then regret not standing to protect the innocent. Now if my previous statement offended anyone I apologize but I stay by it.

My 2 dogs are put in a closet.....thats right a CLOSET! Why? Because they do NOT mess in there, and they do not tear up my rugs or get into anything that can harm them, thats WHY! There will come a time when they will be able to "roam free" in the house, but right now, they love thier closet.....it has ventilation, and they are in there 2 hours tops, when I go to Drs. Appointments, or the store. They are NOT kept outside, as they will dig their way out, and could get hit by a car.

One thing that I would do if I were you, is to take the closet door off and put a gate up so the dogs can see outside of the closet. From everything that I have read, they say that dogs should not be in a very small confined space or closet with the door CLOSED. They say it is important for the dog to see out.

I'm curious did anyone puppy proof their house? I know for the first 2 years we lived with many locks and everything elevated and all rugs put away to be taken out only for holidays and “special” visits from relatives.

They can see out thru the louvers, believe me, they are fine! As far as "puppy proofing" you cannot do that all the time, as we now have tile on the floors, thanks to the dogs tearing up wall to wall carpeting, and they still have thier accidents! We went thru this with the other 2 dogs we had, so this is nothing new to us. Thanks for your advice anyway....

My dog has the back room, surrounded by doors. There are two windows up high, he can't see out. It's carpeted, heated, air conditioned and bigger than my office. Again, I am cooped up all day in an office, that's less fair than being home all day sleeping, chewing on toys, bones, licking my feet and locked in a room.
