Please help! :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

This is our first trip to Disney and I am now considering switching our reservations. We are now reserved at POFQ but I am really having a problem with the sleeping situation. There will be four of us. My DD is 13 and my other DD is 9 plus my DH and me. I feel like we're going to be really squished into two doubles. I am considering upgrading to the BC. The issue is how much more we'll have to pay. There are no discounts that I can see (7/16-7/22). I understand that I'm paying for more than 2 queen beds, I'm paying for many more amenities as well as an amazing pool! To upgrade looks like it will cost us another 975.00! YIKES! Is it really worth it? Our dining will be taken care of (although, we're missing out on the free dining b/c we can't go at the end of Aug-Oct.) so that will help.

This is our first trip to Disney ever and I want it to be special, but I don't want to feel like we're being taken. Advice please??

DH is awesome and will do whatever I feel is necessary, but since I've planned the whole thing, I'll also feel horrible if it doesn't go well.

Thanks for all of your help! :confused3

mcgovern,

It all depends on if you can afford it, or not. If you can, then go for it. Im staying at WL (wood view) and BC (lagoon view) in july.

And its been tough, because i want to stay at all the deluxe resorts :wizard:

But i had to make a choice, so i ended up with the 2 mentioned above. Its a lot of money (going to USA, WDW, on my own) for a regular type og guy like me, but i cant resist those deluxes (my family thinks im crazy using this kind of money, but i dont care).

Just go for it, mcgovern, BC is way too nice. And SAB is realy realy nice. :goodvibes :wizard:

the akl and wl are both somewhat less expensive than the BC and they both have rooms with bunk beds. We stayed at the akl last year and the kids, DS 12 and DD 9 loved the beds.

We usually stay at the deluxes but in Feb we stayed at POFQ and really liked it. If I were you I would look into a king bed connecting to a two bed at POFQ. It may be comparable or even cheaper than a two queen at a deluxe and you would be able to spread out more and have two bathrooms. The transportation at POFQ was really nice though you can't beat an resort smack dab in the middle of Epcot and MGM (my two favorite parks.) Good luck and have fun.

It really depends on how much time you plan to spend in your room. If all you are going to do is sleep in there at nights, then the four of you in one room may not be too bad, since you'll be so tired after returning from a long day at the parks that you guys will just crash right away.

However, if you will return from parks early and spend more "awake" time in the room, then you may want to consider other options, especially if you are worried about comfort level. You want to get the best value for your vacation, but you also want to be comfy!

Some thoughts ...

1) WL or AKL -- The two least expensive deluxes. Some rooms have bunkbeds, which kids love. The pool at the AKL is a lot of fun.
2) Connecting rooms at a value resort. Your kids may enjoy the theming more as well.
3) Stay in a room with a trundle bed at POR. Not sure if your 9-year-old will be too big/tall for it, but it may be worth looking into.

Good luck, and have a great trip!

Linda

You guys are awesome! We can afford the deluxe, but I hate feeling like I'm getting taken advantage of. I'm really nervous about having the kids in a different room than us. I would like us all together because in regular everyday life we are all off in different directions, so vacations give us the change to regroup, recharge and rebond. I'll check out the rates at WL and AKL.

It's hard when you've never been somewhere before. I am kinda a control freak (in a good way of course) :) So I tend to overthink things.

All I've heard all my life is that I've got to go to DisneyWorld, so I'm excited but so afraid of making a mistake and it not going well!

With 3 kids, I've been agonizing about accomodation configurations as well. One thing you've got going for you that we don't is that you'll have summer with longer park hours; we're going in an off season. You probably won't be in your room for much but sleeping.

are you paying rack rate? if so you might want to consider purchasing an annual pass, perhaps this will help you bring the price down significantly!

just a suggestion.

also, i would go with the beach club, you have an awesome pool, a quick walk to epcot and a nice boat ride to mgm. that alone is worth staying at that resort. :3dglasses

DH and I have a quen sized bed at home, so a double was a bit cozier at POR, but we were so tired at the end of the day that the size of the bed really didn't matter. Our DD's were together in the other double bed and didn't have a problem with it either. So, unless you REALLY need the extra space in the beds it's not so bad. The room was spacious enough for all of us and we had A LOT of stuff! I think you'll really love POFQ so I wouldn't worry about it.

My best bet, for convenience, room size and monorail access is either the Poly or CR. These resorts sleep 5, 2 huge beds and a sofa day bed, rooms are very large, even compared with those at B/C and Y/C and AKL and WL. Seems to me almost twice the space, we prefer the Poly, relaxing atmosphere, great pool, EWP every night and fireworks from the beach over the MK. Price wise, AAA rate is great, the messing around with the AP's right now is hard to consider until Disney straightens it out, but for the quick access to the monorail, ferry boat and motor launches the Poly and Cr are alittle more money but to me worth the cost. Don't get me wrong, WL is our next favorite resort but won't handle 5 people and two rooms is alot of dough compared, say, to one room at Pol or CR. Good luck and enjoy where ever you pick!

I would definitely go with the BC!! I stayed at POFQ and I loved it, but it was only DH and I. I personally think the rooms are on the small size. If your children are not used to sharing a bed, it could raise issues.
The BC is beautiful. Storm Along Bay is a wonderful pool that you all will enjoy. The area looking toward the Boardwalk is vibrant and fun. The walk to Epcot is beautiful and easy and it is a short boat road (or a longer walk) to MGM. It is our favorite area. There is lots of fun activities along the Boardwalk too!
I think it is well worth the extra money, but it is lots of the "intangible" type things I've mentioned that help to make it that way. The atmosphere is wonderful in this area.
Only you can decide if you will feel taken advantage of, which will spoil your trip where ever you decide to stay.
A word of advice from "Commando" type planner, in the past. Don't Over Plan. Make your plans with the expectation that things WILL change along the way. On out first trip I planned everything so finitely that any deviation disappointed me. My attitude negatively impacted the fun of my family.
Whatever you decide, Have Fun and Enjoy. You will love Disney.

If price is an issue you could always go POR and have the trundle bed for one of the kids. ALso AKL and WL are deluxes that sleep four and are a little less expensive than full blown deluxes. However, if you want to go all out I would suggest POly or GF. Monorail and ferrys can't be beat and they are both gorgeous resorts.

If money is not the issue then I'd definitely go for the Epcot area resorts. We love the BWI but the YC/BC is beautiful, the pool looks awesome and many people love it. No waiting for a bus to go to MGM or Epcot. It is a relaxing little boat ride to MGM and walking is an option as well. As for Epcot, well, you are right on top of the entrance into the World Showcase area. It feels like Epcot is in your backyard! To get to the other parks you would take a bus. (or drive) There are plenty of places to eat around Crescent Lake and you can rent a surrey bike for the family and ride around the lake! So fun!

In an Epcot area deluxe you are paying for more than the queen size beds as you say. You aren't going to feel as if you are being taken. I think that the inside hallways, the bigger rooms, the balconies, the sit down restaurant choices, the valet parking and the great location more than satisfy me in terms of why they cost more.

Beach Club all the way. The pool the short walk to Epcot the Boardwalk area, the boat ride to MGM. Your DD will love that pool. It is amazing. But if you have the money do look into Poly (our favorite) or CR especially if you anticipate spending alot of time at MK.

Have you considered one of the cabins at Fort Wilderness? There are bunkbeds and a double bed in the bedroom and a double bed that pulls out from the wall in the living room. Plus, you get a full kitchen with microwave and mousekeeping (they even put the dishes in the dishewasher), and two TVs!!! One in the bedroom and one in the living room.

We have rebooked and upgraded to BC! :Pinkbounc

I am now really excited and so are the kids. I have no more doubts about where we are staying. In fact, since it's our first trip, being closer to 2 of the parks will probably be a godsend. I plan on checking out the Poly and GF while I'm there. I'm not sure if the Tahitian style of the Poly would appeal to us. It's hard when you only see pictures. Much different, I imagine to actually experience it. Less than three weeks to go!!

Enjoy your trip and don't think twice about your decision! I'm sure you'll be thrilled with BC--and if not, trying another resort is an excellent excuse to return to Disney! :flower:
