I just started getting ESPN magazine. I never order this magazine. In fact, I haven't ordered any magazines. I don't have any magazine subscriptions. It is an expensive magazine - $4.99 a piece. When I frist saw it, I thought maybe the mailman had misdelivered it. Nope. It is addressed to me. Odd. I don't even like sports!

They'll probably send you a few, and then send you one with a bill saying if you want to keep receiving these, pay up!!

They did this to me with the morning paper. One week I was getting them everyday and I thought, how nice of them, I do deserve this gift, but then they wanted money after that week. :teeth:

Have you ordered any magazines lately off the internet? I know when I order from the internet places, (I can't think of the names right now) they usually throw in a couple of ones for free. I know we have gotten several different free ones over the years that came with ones we ordered.

We got slammed with the local newspaper recently without even knowing it. It suddenly started showing up, and one day we got the bill in the mail--BUT with a different person's name above our address. When we called to find out what was going on, we found out that one of their salespeople was making up names & putting them to addresses in order to boost sales.

Not that it's happening like that in your case since they do have your name on them, but you'd be surprised at what these companies can & do pull. I'd contact them if possible & ask to be removed.

I just recieved a magazine yesterday that I didn't order either. It's Vacation Homes. It was addressed to me too. I can't imagine anyone giving me a gift subcription either since I obviously can't afford any of these vacation homes. :rotfl: There was an insert with it that said something about a free subscription for answering a few question--basic questions like hobbies and household salary. I didn't get a chance to look at the "fine print" because my son spilled on it and so it got pitched (the insert, that is). This is an $8 an issue magazine. :confused3

Just write REFUSE and RETURN TO SENDER on the front cover of the magazine and plop it in the mail. I have entered some contests of late and have been slammed with all sorts of magazines. I have REFUSED them and eventually they stopped sending them to me.

Last year, I started getting Good Housekeeping, which I never ordered. After a while, they started sendng me letters talking about how I ordered the magazine and now it was my responsibility to pay for it. There was never any phone number to call, just a man's name. I sent a letter to this person asking exactly how I subscribed to the magazine because it isn't the type of magazine I would order. Eventually, they stopped sending the letters. I'm just wondering if this happened when I entered a contest.

I got TV guide and a couple others and had to call them to get them to quit sending them. It was a promotion hoping I would buy more.

I once just started getting a magazine out of the blue, and in the little code they print in the section by your name I could tell I was going to get it for a year. I had not ordered it, so I called the company and found out it was a replacement for another magazine that I used to get that was no longer in business. They randomly picked a new magazine they thought I would like and bought me a year's subscription. I thought that was nice, but since you don't get other magazine's it's probably not what happened.

If you bought something at Best Buy recently, they had this spiel going on with purchases. ESPN was one of the choices. Apparently, the cashiers asked me if I wanted it for "free" with my purchases. If your cashier was less than ethical, they just input a yes in to boost thier sales quota for the day.

If you or your daughter shopped at Best Buy in the past month or six weeks I bet that is where you got it from.

TRY being on the receiving end of TONS of baby magazines and coupons when 1. you have NO baby ( he is 15 years old) and 2. trying for 5 years to have a baby with no such luck what so ever !! :guilty:

About a month or so ago I started receiving a daily newspaper I didn't order and do not want. I know sometimes various publications will deliver newspapers or magazines for free, hoping you like them enough to subscribe. So I figured it would go away after a week or two. Finally I called to tell them to stop delivering it. I was told it was in fact a free promotion, but it was supposed to be going to the house at the other end of the block (their house number is 2, mine is 20), which it is because I drive past the house every morning and it's there. And I was also told they couldn't stop sending it to me, because it requires a change in their system, and I'm not even in their system! :earseek:

I just started getting ESPN magazine. I never order this magazine.

That happened to DH with the ESPN Magazine about 2 years ago. While he has tried to cancel it he still receives it. He has never had to pay for it.

Check your American Express bill. Several times they have billed me for magazines I never ordered, including golfing magazines and I have never had any interest in golf.

When I called the Amex customer service line they refered me to another company to cancel the order. When I asked how this came to be they stated it was probably part of a promotion. Of course, they promised to put a block on such things for me, but that doesn't last. Some of these subscriptions were $70 and much more.

I have a real problem with anyone charging my account with unauthorized promotions. The next time it happens I plan to get an attorney (and cancel my card).

I don't know if this would apply to you or not. We used to be in the Jaycees. We suddenly started to get a couple different magazines we didn't order. 2 of them were money management type of magazines, something we would not have ordered. I called and found out the Jaycees would sometimes sign people up and pay for them. It cost us nothing and DD got 2 years of a magazine she wanted, for free.

Have you ticked anyone off recently?? When I was a kid and people would tick me off, I would get those little subscription cards out of all kinds of magazines and fill them out for which ever person had ticked me off...I know many people that did the same thing to so perhaps some kid is doing it....

Don't forget--if you get someting in the mail that you did not order, it is yours. You do not have to pay for it.

I once got some pantyhose - size Q (I'm 4ft 10 in, 120 lbs). They sent me an invoice with the second shipment. I called them. They argued. I asked for written proof that I had ordered, never heard from them again.
