For all you animal lovers out there, I am fostering 5 kittens.

Their mom died, not sure what from, but there were 7 kittens.
A client of ours (he is handicapped), brought one in last Saturday.
It was very ill, so the doctor euthanized it. Well, he called on Monday and said the kittens had not eaten for him for 24 hours.
The doctor said to bring them in and we would euthanize them.
All I could think about was don't they deserve a chance?
The doctor said I was wasting my time, and they would die anyway.
Well, my boss, the other vet, said "If you want to try, let Dr. D. know before she euthanizes them." He said the kittens chances are 50/50.

So, we checked over all the kittens, and had one more euthanized.
It was pretty skinny and looked like it was near death.

I brought them home that night, and they ate like there was no tomorrow.

I let them know about it at work and everyone smiled. Everyone except the Dr. that wanted to euthanize them.
I guess I just want to give the little stinkers a chance. They are so cute and dependant on us to feed them and take care of them.
Our dog is cleaning them so they will go to the bathroom.
She is an amazing dog.
We don't leave her alone with the kittens. I don't think Chloe knows her own strength around them. She licks them and they fall over!

As soon as my DD gets home I will have her help me post a photo of the little guys.
Wish us luck that in 4 weeks they will test negative for all diseases!

*P.S. The reason I mentioned that the client is handicapped is because we thought it would be difficult for him to take care of the kittens. It is difficult for all five in my family to take care of them and we have no major disabilities. I did not mean to say people with handicaps could not take care of animals. I'm sorry if anyone takes it that way.

I'm normally not very religious, but if there is a God, I thank him for people like you who do things like this.

Awesome! ::yes:: I can't wait to see some pictures.

How old are the kittens? I remember mom hand feeding her cat and he is the best cat as far as temperment. Still has his claws but never uses them really. He was one of five we cared for. It was awesome watching them grow. I've already decided the next cat we get will either have to be a kitten we hand raise because it has lost it's mom or an older cat we can adopt. (My son wants a kitten he can bond with because the two cats we have don't like to be picked up. His cat Trixie loved to be carried around and loved on and he really misses her)
I can't wait to see pictures!!!

Good for you for taking them in! It must be hard taking care of five kittens, but entertaining too. Kittens are adorable.

The kittens are about two weeks old. All but one had their eyes open, now she does too. They are so much work, but sure are fun.
I hope they all make it.

Will post pics in a few. Have to feed my crew and the kittens.

I love cats. Can't wait to see the picture of them.

What a kind and caring person you are! Thank you for giving these little fuzzies a chance at a happy life. I can only imagine how much work it must be, but I bet you'll have a lot of fun, too! Sweet dog you have to be helping those babies! Best wishes with your new little family!:D :D :D

Yes, those hand-raised kittens can make the best, most people-oriented pets when they get older. We found our little Tigger (he's the one in my tag) under a bush, abandoned, before his eyes were open. The vet I took him to estimated his age at 5-7 days. With a bottle and formula for orphaned kittens I got at Walmart, we raised him til now he's our constant companion. Only one word of warning-when they're that little, they don't hold their own body heat well. We had to keep him with a hot water bottle to cuddle for the first few weeks. And every evening, DH would put him on his chest where Tigger would promptly fall asleep to the breathing, heartbeat, and warmth. Even now, as soon as DH gets into bed, Tigger crawls up on his chest (except now Tigger's a mere 15 pounds) and sleeps just as he always did.

It's hard work, but it's possible. My family raised poodle puppies when I was three. Their mother died when they were born. All but one of the babies survived. By the way, when the puppies were several weeks old, my other dog (a manchester terrier) actually had milk come in. My grandpa was a vet and he said to let her be with them. She raised those babies from then on. In fact, we kept one puppy and years later she was still washing her face. They were quite a pair. We lost our poodle when I was a senior in high school. She lived a long and happy life.

What do the kitties look like? I'm anxious to see pictures.

They will ALL make it .. with your love...:Pinkbounc very well done to you for saving these kitties:Pinkbounc :...xxx

lisajl--it is hard work, but I think you feel like I do, they have a right to live.
Back in 2000, we had a rain storm one day, I went outside to see if there was any damage and heard meows, looked under the porch and a stray cat had kittens under there, I counted four heads. The next day I heard meowmeowmeowmeow, there was a little orange kitten under my shrub, the mother had moved them, found one in neighbors back yard next to other neighbors fence and one under neighbors shrub, couldn't find a fourth kitten. I put them in a box on my porch, hoping she would come back, but she did'nt..so next day I took them to the vet, she said they were only one or two days old and that cats sometimes abandoned kittens if they had too many, well, one died right then and the vet said I could raise them , never heard of this, but I did it with the two that were left. They didn't know how to suck, so I had to use a syringe(sp)and push the food in, it worked, but I was afraid they were going to die, thats why I don't have pictures of them when they were days old. I wiped butts and was so tickled when I got them to pee or poop (I wish someone had taped this, a grown person laughing and happy over cat poop, weird, right?) Well, my two little boys are now 4 years old, and we love them dearly. I don't know how to do pictures, but will have my DH help me soon ( by the way, he didn't like cats, but helped a little in raising them, and then he didn't demand I get rid of them, and then he started playing with them, then started talking and holding them, now he talks to them before talking to me after work!) He loves them now, too.

I am trying to load the photos but having trouble...can someone help me?

They are precious Lisa. My story on raising an abandoned kitten. My son brought one home that was found in a wall of the resturant he was working in. He must have been a week old at the time. I had a female cat who wanted nothing to do with him at the time. We, my son, daughter and I, hand fed that sweet kitten for two weeks. I was the one who massaged the baby so he could pee, and yes that was a great thing. To make him comfortable he was rooming in with our pet rabbit Honey. She didn't mind having him snuggle up with her.

After two more weeks he was getting too rambuctious with the bunny, so I decided it was time to wean him on to wet kitten food and let him have the run of the house. By then my cat had taken to him and was cleaning him constantly, wether he wanted it or not. He grew to 16 pounds and lived to 16 years of age. Funny, he always liked lettuce and potatoe skins....and his name was Tigger. He was one amazing cat and I miss him.

They are just adorable. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

Omigod! Soo cute! Brings me back to my childhood - my cat had 11 litters in 9 years - busy, busy, busy! One right on the end of my bed in the middle of the night - while I was sleeping!

Keep up the good work!
