I didn't get DD7 tickets to the Hannah Montana concert, even though I had a chance. At 2:30 today, I could have had floor seat, 5th row. The problem was, it's an hour & a half drive and the concert started at 4. I know in my mind that by the time we could've gotten there, parked, etc, that we would've missed part of the show. Added to that, DD wouldn't have had her HM t-shirt (we were at my parent's house), a sign, glow sticks or anything else. I wish that I would've planned ahead just in case seats opened up, but I didn't. She says it's no big deal & she doesn't really care. I still feel terrible about not doing this for her though...

She does have tickets for the 3-D movie wrapped & ready for Christmas. I just hope seeing the movie doesn't remind me that I blew the chance to get her there in person.

LIke lots of us, you're falling into the "My kids NEED everything they want" trap.

You're not a bad mom. A bad mom doesn't buy her kids a warm winter coat when she has the chance to do so. A bad mom buys beer for herself instead of milk for her kids.

A good mom worries that she's not doing enough for her kids when she's already doing plenty. That sounds like you.

THANK YOU!! EXACTLY!!!

I think so many of us want our kids to have everything we didn't have a chance or a hope to have when we were kids. But they don't need everything they "want". That isn't reality.

You are a good mom who wants her daughter to be happy, but you are also a practical person who realized that the other pieces didn't fall into place for this particular time. It's okay. Your DD sounds like a good girl who isn't worried about it much either way. I'm sure she would have loved to go, but she's not scarred by it.

And really, what lesson was learned here? A good one...that sometimes we get things we want and that's great, but other times we don't...AND THAT'S OKAY TOO! Kids who are indulged with every whim don't learn to handle disappointment. It makes for anxious, and often obnoxious kids.

You are a great mom. You love your daughter. You are doing your best at every turn. You did your best in this situation too!!!

give yourself a break!!!

:goodvibes
